100% tussling over territory. Are they new to the tank? Or did something change in it? Once they've figured out their rank, encounters are much quicker, but it takes a bit of time to work out first.
Edit: Also, Sewellia are really easy to sex. I'd guess these are the same sex, whatever they are.
Edit edit: Upon closer inspection, I'd guess they're both female. Very easy to tell if you have any pics of them on the glass though.
I was pretty sure one 1 male other female but they are still pretty young so you could be right. I will try to get some pics! They 2 of them are new so i think you are right.
interesting because the only fighting I've ever seen in my tank is drive by style side tackles and quickly swimming on not this prolonged wrestling I'm witnessing here lol
Yes, that's the normal kind, and that's all ours do now too. However, when they're new to a tank, they have to establish the pecking order, and so they do this. That's why my first question to OP was if they were new, and OP confirmed that they were. This might be the one and only time OP's hillies do this. After that I expect they'll only do the drive-bys you mentioned.
I see two malesā¦and it does appear to be aggressive behavior between themā¦.
it is recommended that Hillys be kept as singular or in a group of three or more.

Gotta be sexy time because when they fight it doesn't look like this!
Sure it does. This is definitely tussling.

Wow I really appreciate this level of detail in an answer, feel like I understand them a little better. Thanks man.
Of course, happy to! I also just like talking about these unique and silly fish.
