TQL is pretty notoriously shitty to carriers and obnoxious to customers. I’ve never worked there but I did interview there right out of college and the environment struck me as douchey and toxic. So I think you made the right call. Look at Transport Topics top 100 freight brokers, you’ll find some other companies

TheSonofFarland

Im straight out of college and thats exactly how the environment was. I knew another major redflag was the lawsuit they got slapped with last October.

ContentGuarantee1740

I was fortunate to have a solid broker when I did my hot shots way back when , but if you get a bad one. Well then his name is probably Matthew 😂

TheSonofFarland

The LAE’s name was Matt…I am not kidding 🤣

Iselltoyotas71

Best decision you could have made.

semthews1

TQL has good training. Get out after 1 year. I WILL DIE ON THIS HILL

AzSugarBbyFreightGuy

💯

fringe_class_

They’ll have you sign a non-compete that will force you out of the industry. I hope nobody works for them and they bankrupt, fuck them

TheSonofFarland

I noticed a lot of reviews that did explain the non-compete, seems criminal to put someone out of the industry in that manner.

jcard1997

Non competes are going away for many

BelegStrongbow603

This is the way

MuchCarry6439

Great training, some very excellent brokers there, but you aren’t really missing anything there you can’t find elsewhere.

frank_white414

I’d love to know how the office shadow went

TheSonofFarland

The office environment reminded me of a frat house I lived in for a year during college…loud, wannabe wall streets, confused kids with no direction. LOTS wearing street clothes and no business / office casual attire at all (ie. shorts, ball caps, sweat pants, t-shirts). The LAE said he’s been there for 2 years and could only talk about putting your clients money in your pocket, while the trainee seemed miserable. I asked the LAE about their turnover rate and he stated “no one is willing to put in the hustle.” My recruiter interviewed me for 30 minutes after the hour long shadow. I nearly told my recruiter on the spot thanks but no thanks, im getting out of here. I guarantee she could see it all over my face but still blew up my phone the next day to come back in.

AzSugarBbyFreightGuy

I worked at TQL for 6 years after doing the same thing as you. I did it for the logistics schooling but then stayed bc I was making well over 6 figures. Now I’m at a smaller logistics company that’s more family oriented and pays much much better. Message me for more insight

jcard1997

If you’re not making .10 margin the dollar minimum on top of a salary or .25-35 if straight on straight up commission, it’s not worth it. My company offers 30 percent to the account manager on the profit dollar

Burnonedown024

BBI Logistics honestly way better and they are based in Columbus... Check them out

shiplife22

They’re my top broker in our network and our day to day contacts + executive leadership are top notch.

pleaseleevmealone

Yikes.

psifusi

Not yikes, customer facing TQL is fantastic if you are with a solid broker there.

shiplife22

Yep, 100%. Ive not had many bad experiences and they always give us value adds, especially from a reporting standpoint.

MuchCarry6439

Not sure why you’re downvoted. The majority of their brokers are garbage, but there’s a reason they are a top brokerage. All depends on your rep.

pleaseleevmealone

I've worked with them from all sides. As a shipper, as a receiver and as a third party vendor attempting to work with them. They will bend over backwards to win your business then hand you off to one of their severely underpaid lackeys who wouldn't know a gaylord from a hole in the ground. They have zero rapport with their carriers and are unable to fix anything on the fly. Pickups are consistently missed because of bad paperwork handoffs coming from lackeys who were never trained how to fill out a BOL. They are absolute garbage, and if they've convinced you they are worth using, you aren't big enough to actually matter. Sorry.

MuchCarry6439

Not a shipper, or currently work with them in any capacity. Again, all depends on the rep & office.

shiplife22

I can promise you we are large enough to matter. You’re making assumptions. We’re a F500 company. If you’re getting handed off to lackeys who are not trained, instead of veterans who are hand selected, I can promise YOU you’re not large enough to matter.

shiplife22

Because any opinion that is different from the people who hate them is automatically downvoted. It’s Reddit, different opinions aren’t welcome and that’s why it’s kind of a cesspool.

MuchCarry6439

I mean, an obligatory fuck TQL though lol

jcard1997

I would love to chat with you about lowering costs if you’re a shipper. Tql is instructed to not take losses on freight and will give it back or push it. My company could never. I’m looking my losses today and they aren’t pretty

shiplife22

I can promise you they take losses just like every other carrier or broker. More often than not, they make more money than they lose. We have a large contract with them and their acceptance rate is over 99%. Their OTP & OTD are in the 98’s.

rasner724

I mean, do you want to gamble on yourself, eat shit for 2-3 years but learn this industry better than anywhere else and potentially make wayyy more because of it. Do you also intend on staying in this industry? If no to either, who gives a shit… if the answer is yes to both, you should go back
