I've been out of the neighborhood for a couple years unfortunately, so maybe someone on /r/Astoria could give you a better recommendation.
But for your first time? Taverna Kyclades is the easy choice. Popular but for a good reason, their food, service, and vibe are excellent.
Not cheap, but not prohibitively expensive either.
Make sure you get the grilled whole branzino with the lemon potatoes, and ask the waiter if he can debone it for you.
Lived in Astoria for a few years and grew up in LI. I would say the top two there are Bahari Estiatorio and Taverna Kyclades. Nothing in LI really compares. Good ambiances for family style too.
I've lived in Astoria for a decade. I'm moving back to Long Island next week and I'm not happy. Regardless. Agnanti is the best Greek food IMO followed by the late great, Zenon.
Honorable mentions:
Kos Taverna (Really good actually),
Bahari because they are consistent. Nothing more nothing less.
If you want gyro, Nikos Souvlakia (expensive)
Otherwise go to King Souvlaki
Holler at me for more food recs. I'm a fat asshole.
I just moved to LI after a decade in Astoria. While Taverna Kyclades is the best known greek taverna in the neighborhood, my personal favorite is Elias Corner. They don't have a set menu. Rather, they just tell you what fish they have that day and can give you a few options for preparation. They have all the traditional sides and accompaniments.
I wish I remembered the name of this awesome Greek restaurant in Astoria.
Inside was a bar when you
First come in, and you could also eat dinner outside with more bars.
It was a huge place- and a fun time too.
Does it ring any bells ? Lol
Not sure if it’s considered good but parea in Huntington village has been our go to. We also order take out from the Greek grill in Huntington on Jericho tpke
This is the only one that hasn't disappointed me. I went to Greece for my honeymoon and realized the 'greek food' we've been eating is not very authentic at all. we have a very close friend in Astoria, and we get greek anytime we visit her. But as far as Long Island goes, Acropolis is the closest we'll get.
(our authenticity test is a Greek Salad, and a Gyro. they're made so differently in Greece than they are here - and by no means does that mean they're 'healthier' in Greece either)
Akropolis is amazing. My only complaint is with all the souvlaki offerings they don’t do lamb. Usually I’ll trek to Greek Corner in Franklin Square if that’s what I’m craving
Nice, I usually get a Greek salad sandwich when I get Greek. I wonder if they have that as an option
Edit: just checked their menu on allmenus and it looks like an option. I also wonder, have you tried Greek bites in moriches?
Ooh I have to try that! I’ve never had it. I’m not a fan of Greek Bites. Last time I went I though high prices and no indoor seating is a minus for sure. Other people love it though!
For quick basic gyros N’MELI GREEK GRILL in Hauppauge just opened . Best I’ve had in years for fast serve .
For fancy KYMA in roslyn has real good stuff
Whenever I want Greek I go to Neriki, Mediterranean Grill in huntington village. I absolutely love the food there so much and I go there often. If Huntington is too crowded I go to Aegean Grill on larkfield. I get egg lemon soup from there all the time for take out too.
My wife and I loved Avli in Bayside we moved to the Huntington area and just recently realized Skorpios in Huntington is affiliated with Avli. It’s not exactly the same but it’s close enough for us hah
Years ago we moved to the North Bellmore area and another Avli location opened up! It just shut down, and now I see they took over that longstanding Huntington Greek restaurant.
As much as I love Avli in Bayside when I was living in Queens, the price got to be too high -- hardly ordered from the North Bellmore location even though it was a few minutes from me.
By the Bank of America and Taco Bell? I like to order from there. The Yanni Gyro is great. It’s a little expensive although I think most Greek places are similarly priced.
Im not an expert on Greek food as I usually stick to the same thing when I order but Greek Islands in Holbrook is good for what me and my wife order. Greek salads, Spinach pie and Moussaka.
For Greek Restaraunts, nothing beats going to the city.
As others have said, Astoria is full of incredible hidden gems. Same with Manhattan. However, Maria's Mediterranean in Bayside is one of the best I've had. The chef won on Chopped, and the food is incredible! I would recommend the Grilled Calamari and the Blueberry Baklava.
If you want something closer, Island Gyro in Great Neck Plaza is incredible. By far the best non-formal Greek I've had on the island.
Can't really suggest one around Huntington.
It's worth pointing out that Greek food in the city is significantly better than on the island. Same goes for a lot of cuisines.
Bayside is a 20 mile drive. That's not that much.
"But please give any and all recommendations"
Athena greek in amittyville is solid, for turkish food ephesus mediterannian in massapequa is amazing, for just gyros- fontanas in in bayside is biblical.
I enjoy how NO ONE has mentioned Limani. That place is overpriced and pretentious (and the
Manager in Commack seems to spend his time prowling around for girlies instead of helping tables—we’re good for 2 bottles and 4 mains and he acts like we’re trash because we didn’t wander out of skanks-r-us!
>the Manager in Commack seems to spend his time prowling around for girlies
So, like every Greek manager I've ever met? Growing up in Astoria taught me that Greek guys are hella chauvinistic.
There’s a Limani in Commack? Try the one in Manhasset. From my experience it seems much…less trashy…than what you’re describing. But it’s still great people watching.
I can't get falafel at Greek restaurants, it's just so different from what I'm used to, which is the Israeli kind. It's not just the shape, I think the seasoning is different.
And now I'm remembering this hole in the wall in NYC we used to go to called Azuri Cafe. Locals called him the "falafel nazi" because he was a lot like the soup nazi in Seinfeld. But goddamn if those weren't the best falafels I have ever had. Like, miles better than anywhere else. Don't know what the hell he did differently, but biting into one was like a religious experience. I was so upset when he closed.
Akropolis in Nesconset for a sit down place but if you want to just grab a gyro or are looking for something quick-serve, Pete the Greek in Hauppauge is surprisingly good. They do a family meal special for $80 thats enough to feed 8-10 people easily.
You can try Blue waters Mediterranean Cuisine, I’m not green but do eat Mediterranean food often, this place makes the best Greek food I ever had.
Is in North Bellmore though
Former Douglaston resident and Gyro World in Bayside FTW! Loved Tony Opa in Astoria, but sadly, they closed down. As for LI Greek restaurants, I’ve been impressed with Aegean Grill in East Northport and yeros jn St James. I love me some pork gyro and yeros’ was on-par with Gyro World.
I hear great things about Noema in Huntington, but haven’t been yet.
Left Smithtown for Wantagh 10 years ago and still miss Akropolis and Mykonos. Yiasou is the best I’ve found but still not local and only those few tables…!
Yeros in St James is the closest I’ve had to BZ Grill style gyro and grilled meat platters.
Akropolis in nesconset is closest to traditional
Greek taverna.
I miss Astoria.
100% Zaros Cafe in Huntington. They have been in business for 30 years, and they have the best gyros and falafel I've ever had. They constantly run specials. The food is quality and the staff is friendly. Highly recommend
If you ever get the chance, make the trip out to Astoria for the Greek food. Absolutely will change how you look at the cuisine. It's that good.
This is the answer. I have a Greek uncle and we head back into Queens a few times a year just to eat.
whats some recs?
I've been out of the neighborhood for a couple years unfortunately, so maybe someone on /r/Astoria could give you a better recommendation. But for your first time? Make sure you get the grilled whole branzino with the lemon potatoes, and ask the waiter if he can debone it for you.
Kyclades used to be good. They moved locations and suck now. Bayside location is better.
This. Go to the bayside location. Way better
We used to go there for lunch from the city during the work day! They had amazing food years ago
I know the owner and his family. Cool dude
BZ Grill or go to the food truck King Souvlaki at 31st/31ave
BZ is the truth.
Lived in Astoria for a few years and grew up in LI. I would say the top two there are Bahari Estiatorio and Taverna Kyclades. Nothing in LI really compares. Good ambiances for family style too.
*On L.I.
Thanks for holding me accountable lol
Kyclades isn't the same anymore.
Damn really? I guess they got too big. I know they opened up other locations. Went to the one in Manhattan, and I thought Astoria was better.
Bayside still has the original Astoria charm and great food.
so true, it’s so meh now
Bahari is the BEST, get the grilled octopus or calamari. Outstanding.
[удалено]
Agnanti shits on all them.
Agnanti is so underrated it’s shocking.
I've lived in Astoria for a decade. I'm moving back to Long Island next week and I'm not happy. Regardless. Agnanti is the best Greek food IMO followed by the late great, Zenon. Honorable mentions: Kos Taverna (Really good actually), Bahari because they are consistent. Nothing more nothing less. If you want gyro, Nikos Souvlakia (expensive) Otherwise go to King Souvlaki Holler at me for more food recs. I'm a fat asshole.
Stamatis and Bahari would be my choices as well
I just moved to LI after a decade in Astoria. While Taverna Kyclades is the best known greek taverna in the neighborhood, my personal favorite is Elias Corner. They don't have a set menu. Rather, they just tell you what fish they have that day and can give you a few options for preparation. They have all the traditional sides and accompaniments.
Amazing how many of us here lived in Astoria. Was there for about ten years. Moved out here in 2000.
Love Agnanti Meze in Astoria !
Completely agree, Greek food in Astoria is the truth!! That said, the question was about LONG ISLAND, help us out over here!
You can’t really find a top 10 Greek Restaurant in NY, outside of Astoria.
Agnanti is the only place you should go to for Greek food in Astoria. Everything else can eat skata.
Definitely
Greek here. Can confirm.
Agnanti!
I miss Pinnochios.
I wish I remembered the name of this awesome Greek restaurant in Astoria. Inside was a bar when you First come in, and you could also eat dinner outside with more bars. It was a huge place- and a fun time too. Does it ring any bells ? Lol
Stamatis
We love Parea in Huntington Village, but I’ll also go to Aegean Grill on Larkfield if I think the village will be too busy to drive into and park
Parea is one of our regular joints. Great service and people - treat you like family. And we always order the fried oysters.
Yeah the service is amazing!
Edwin and Margaret are the best!
Fried oysters is not Greek food lol
Guess someone should tell them that. I guess salad and broiled fish too. And French fries
Parea in Huntington is the answer
Not sure if it’s considered good but parea in Huntington village has been our go to. We also order take out from the Greek grill in Huntington on Jericho tpke
This is my go to. Their avgolemono soup is my favorite and nothing compares outside of a Greek home, imo.
Akropolis in nesconset been there for a very long time and has great food
I Second acropolis.
Third but it's spelled Akropolis
This is true
Another for Akropolis!
This is the only one that hasn't disappointed me. I went to Greece for my honeymoon and realized the 'greek food' we've been eating is not very authentic at all. we have a very close friend in Astoria, and we get greek anytime we visit her. I love akropolis!
Yes Akropolis has my vote
Akropolis is amazing. My only complaint is with all the souvlaki offerings they don’t do lamb. Usually I’ll trek to Greek Corner in Franklin Square if that’s what I’m craving
Yes!!
I like Pete the Greek in Old Bethpage
Pete the greek SMACKS
Neraki in Huntington Village has by far some of the freshest food around
Acropolis in Nesconset 100%. I absolutely love all of their food and they have amazing tzatziki sauce!!
Little authentic hole in the wall is Mediterranean Kitchen in Mastic- so good (as a vegetarian)
Whats your favorite dish there
Greek salad tbh it’s so freaking good. And their pita. Falafel is hit or miss. I just get the salad every time though it’s my fav
Nice, I usually get a Greek salad sandwich when I get Greek. I wonder if they have that as an option Edit: just checked their menu on allmenus and it looks like an option. I also wonder, have you tried Greek bites in moriches?
Ooh I have to try that! I’ve never had it. I’m not a fan of Greek Bites. Last time I went I though high prices and no indoor seating is a minus for sure. Other people love it though!
I'm usually underwhelmed by greek bites. I was curious if you agreed!
All my homies remember Uncle Pete's in Hicksville. Good stuff. Fantastic lemon potatoes.
I'm not exactly a connoisseur, but we like Greek Town in Rockville Centre.
Greek Town is great.
Greek Town in RVC is great but nowhere near Huntington
>preferably around the Huntington area, but **please give any and all recommendations**.
Gyro bar is much better
Is that the one on long beach road? I love that place too!
Yup so good!
Their feta seems extra fresh. And the lady there is very nice.
Greek Cove in Merrick is a really nice place to order from for takeout. Extremely generous portions.
Agreed! I get like three days worth of food with one order!
Right? I’m around 210lbs and I’m a fairly big eater one Greek salad NEEDS to be split into at least two days
Samesies for their Long Beach Location.
Opa Grill in Bethpage is my go to, always great food and service.
Forgot to add, I am vegetarian and there are amazing options there love the falafel gyro, spanokopita and saganaki.
Opa was my favorite until I moved and tried akropolis. Both excellent
We love Opa. Have used them to cater parties as well. Do delicious.

Skorpio's by Avli. The Little Greek Grill - 340 New York Ave, Huntington, NY 11743 doesn't look like much from the outside, but the food is fabulous!!
Definitely give Kyma in Roslyn a try!
Hellenic in east Marion is hands down the best Greek food I've ever had
They catered a party a few years ago that I had. It was excellent
Shoutout to the Hellenic owner's awesome YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC0zeRjDDukrdqAnm2qRKwsA
can anyone vouch for that Athenia spot in Commack? always drive past it.
By the Bank of America and Taco Bell? I like to order from there. The Yanni Gyro is great. It’s a little expensive although I think most Greek places are similarly priced.
I really like it. Pricey though.
Prices are expensive and the food is mid at best. Go anywhere else. Plus they have idiots singing karaoke.
Food was better when they were at the smaller location, pre-karaoke 😭
the smaller location was the best!
It’s delicious
Greek Grill in greenlawn
Athenian Taverna is fantastic.
I like Platia in Syosset
My good friend who is Greek maintains that it’s the best Greek restaurant on LI. I definitely enjoy it. And the portions are enough for leftovers!
Alexandro's in Mt. Sinai. Great spot for a date night also.
Came to say this ^^^
Krinti Mediterranean Grill in Woodbury https://krinti.com/
Love this place
Neraki on Main St in Huntington.
Mesoyios in Lake Ronkonkoma
No way. Akropolis is miles better
I agree that akropolis is better but I wouldn’t go as far as “miles”. It’s also very good.
If they're asking for the best and you agree akropolis is better than way suggest the other?
I've always enjoyed going there
Im not an expert on Greek food as I usually stick to the same thing when I order but Greek Islands in Holbrook is good for what me and my wife order. Greek salads, Spinach pie and Moussaka.
I love their hummus. They are good enough for me, though this post has made me interested in trying Akropolis now.
herb and olive (manhasset)
And pretty unknown outside of Manhasset… which is great!
Athena in Amityville was a good experience for me a couple years ago
Greek City Grill on Nassau Blvd. in Garden City South.
I miss the old olive tree in Patchogue!!
I like going to Aegean grill in east Northport
My boss’s mechanic absolutely loves saganaki wherever he can get it.
Aegean Cafe in Sayville used to be a go-to
Athenian Taverna in Commack has excellent gyro and tzatziki, and good cocktails, but they’re unnecessarily pricey!
For Greek Restaraunts, nothing beats going to the city. As others have said, Astoria is full of incredible hidden gems. Same with Manhattan. But they’re looking for around Huntington. Might as well just say go to Greece while you’re at it
Can't really suggest one around Huntington. It's worth pointing out that Greek food in the city is significantly better than on the island. Same goes for a lot of cuisines. Bayside is a 20 mile drive. That's not that much. "But please give any and all recommendations"

Not LI but Avli’s in Bayside is really good
I enjoy how NO ONE has mentioned Limani. That place is overpriced and pretentious (and the Manager in Commack seems to spend his time prowling around for girlies instead of helping tables—we’re good for 2 bottles and 4 mains and he acts like we’re trash because we didn’t wander out of skanks-r-us!

I do enjoy a good fluffy falafel. Do any of these Greek restaurants make them round like a ball and not flat like a hockey puck?
I can't get falafel at Greek restaurants, it's just so different from what I'm used to, which is the Israeli kind. It's not just the shape, I think the seasoning is different. Don't know what the hell he did differently, but biting into one was like a religious experience. I was so upset when he closed.
they dont eat falafel in greece or hummus
Haven’t found great falafel on LI, sadly the Trader Joe’s ones are some of the best.
Akropolis in Nesconset for a sit down place but if you want to just grab a gyro or are looking for something quick-serve, Pete the Greek in Hauppauge is surprisingly good. They do a family meal special for $80 thats enough to feed 8-10 people easily.
Akropolis nesconset
Parea
Akropolis in Nesconset
Akropolis
Nothing on Long Island, Loukoumi in Astoria is the best of the best
Parea
Noema in Huntington just opened recently and every experience I have had there has been phenomenal
Is Mediterranean still there? I left LI in 2006 so not sure. It was right on NY Avenue.
Parea in Huntington. Gotta try the watermelon salad. Everything else slaps too, but that salad is tits
The watermelon salad is really delicious, but I’ve had way better tzatziki and gyro elsewhere.
You can try Blue waters Mediterranean Cuisine, I’m not green but do eat Mediterranean food often, this place makes the best Greek food I ever had. Is in North Bellmore though
Lucky Boy in Lawrence
Do diners count?
Akropolis in Nesconset or Mykonos in Smithtown
Pita Bowl Greek Cuisine in Lindenhurst
IF you want affordable, then The Greek Place on Jericho Tpke in NHP If you want fine dining, then Kyma in Roslyn.
In no particular order: Akropolis (Nesconset) Mykonos (Smithtown) Greek Corner (Franklin Square) Mesoyios (Lake Ronkonkoma) Greek Islands (Holbrook) Pete the Greek (Bethpage) Aegean Grill (Sayville)
Live in Astoria but from LI. Can't go wrong with Annasa, Telly's Taverna, or Gregory's.
On the island? Try Yiasou Yeeros in Plainview. Their food is really good. Been going there since they opened.
Left Smithtown for Wantagh 10 years ago and still miss Akropolis and Mykonos. Yiasou is the best I’ve found but still not local and only those few tables…!
I miss Grecian Grill in Farmingdale ;( i liked their Avgolemono soup
Yeros in St James is the closest I’ve had to BZ Grill style gyro and grilled meat platters. Akropolis in nesconset is closest to traditional Greek taverna. I miss Astoria.
Hellenic in Greenport
Akropolis in Nesconset
Fresko in Franklin Square is really good
I really like Santorini in Merrick.
100% Zaros Cafe in Huntington. They have been in business for 30 years, and they have the best gyros and falafel I've ever had. They constantly run specials. The food is quality and the staff is friendly. Highly recommend
