I second this. This is the best Columbian restaurant on LI and NYC. The flavors are consistently great with simple flavors. You'll never leave hungry. Best bang for the buck and we always bring home left overs.
Holy shit, I haven't heard this name in a while. My family would send me out to this restaurant to treat ourselves every now and again and I had no idea it had such a high profile on this sub lol
Just tried it based on the comments. They were closing in 30 minutes. Kitchen was closing. So, just got the basics. Rotisserie chicken, rice, & beans. Not tasting any seasoning or flavor. Did I order the wrong things?!
They really are very good. I miss Quetzalcoatl so much mostly just because it was bigger and I liked the feel inside more (and the filet mignon poblano was soo good- I don’t think Oaxaca has it). but I’ll still go to Oaxaca
Fun place. Last time there the girl i was with met another girl who looked fsmiliar. Theybhad spent a night in jail together 2 years prior. Fun night of bad ass stories. Passed it two nights ago...typical fun biker crowd.
There's a new breakfast place in Huntington called Over Easy. M-F there's a $4.99 breakfast special and a $10 lunch special.
I've eaten there 3 or 4 times and they've all been very good
Robke's $15 lunch special can't be beat
Vouching for Spankys, but I'm not sure if it's a particularly stellar value. About what you would normally pay for wings and stoner food. Also, it's Garden City Park, not Garden City.
Eatcetera in Bohemia, $2 empanadas that, while are on the smaller side, are tasty with a ton of different flavors. They also have several lunch specials on the cheaper side
Claws in Sayville is one of the best “bang for buck” spots, IMO.
Honorable mentions to Clay Oven (Selden & Hauppauge) and Flame Halal Gyro in Patchogue.
Hasn’t been $22 there in years. I think it was 30 or a little over as of this summer. Again, we’ll worth it and good deal for how much you get, but, not what I’d call cheap.
I was there last month. The naked roll is either $22-23 with fries and cole slaw. Their bigger rolls cost more, but their regular lobster rolls are absolutely less than $30.
I just tried them last night. The food was great (I actually had zero complaints which is extremely rare coming from me), and service was fast, but the atmosphere on a busy night kind of sucked just due to the nature of the building. I’d probably recommend taking out if you’re uncomfortable with getting up close and personal with the other patrons.
Once we were seated at a table (and thankfully not the bar) it was a totally fine experience. Standing and waiting to be seated in the little crowded hallway directly behind the people eating at the bar and with the owner/whoever that was running back and forth between us to help people was a bit awkward. I don’t blame them, I know it’s just a tight space. Atmosphere was overall decent. Just… a bit chaotically crowded.
Puerto Vallarta in Glen Cove. Quality affordable food, kind service, and the Berta cocktail is perfection. We’ve long moved out of the area, but make the drive from Suffolk when the craving hits.
Used to live around the corner from this place. Used to go every friday after getting paid, and was never disappointed. I was on good terms with the bartender, Christian. He used to hook me up with some strong margaritas.
It used to be great like 15+ years ago when it was like $5.99 or $6.99 with the coupon, now it’s more than double that I believe. The line used to wrap around the inside of the restaurant, and that’s when it was only a single store front. Miss those Monday Pasta Nights.
There a lot in Patchogue. We like Bird and Bao, any of the walk in hot plate bodegas, That Chicken Place, and there’s a Yaas tea now which is great for a delicious drink
I am a fan of Las Brisas which is in a shopping center with Gran Amazonia and La Familia. All delicious! There’s a few on Main Street and to be honest I don’t know their names. I just walk in and see what they have.
Mr. Service Deli on River Ave is hands down the best bodega in Patchogue. Second is La Cofianza Deli on South Ocean. You will get a full huge dinner for $6-$12.
Jerry and the mermaid riverhead
Hampton gyro Hampton bays
Slurp Ramen port jeff
1943 pizza greenport
Mesquite wading river
Salsa salsa any location
Hot chicken mama blue point
Empanadas and More in Nesconset is always amazing, I can't eat empanadas anywhere else because I'll always compare them. Everything on the menu that I've had is great.
Might be sacrilege, and it's been a while, but I recall Uncle Giuseppe's made pretty decent pizza for a decent price. Need a second job for the rest of the store.
I realize “cheap” is a relative term. I just went w my wife and got a substantial 3 course dinner and round of drinks for $100.. you don’t get that many other places these days.
Maybe if the service wasn’t trash (if you’re not quasi-“famous”) and the food didn’t come out cold half the time.
Source: tried it three times. Seen enough other comments suggesting the same.
The place is utter garbage, I’m sorry. Maybe somehow you’ve managed to have good experiences, but I have to put this out there for others reading.
Thanks for sharing. Makes sense seeing negative comments online, the majority of people go online to complain. Just for everyone else who views this - I go once every couple of weeks and rarely have an issue.
We really wanted to like it, because we have yet to find a good Italian spot (authentic, cooks pasta properly, etc). It has potential, the food we did try was seasoned well, but after the last time (waiting almost two hours to get a room temperature plate of food) that was the last straw.
The table next to us complained to the owner for similar and he shrugged and said “we had a lot of take out orders.” Inexcusable, he doesn’t give a shit and won’t get my money. It’s a shame because I think it was better before he took over based on what I’ve read.
The Trattoria in St. James is the best Italian restaurant on Long Island, IMO. Only problem is you need to call about 2 weeks in advance to secure a table.
Green lawn family restaurant is affordable diner fare.
Las palmas and deli la Union in east northport can literally not be beat. Even compared to other Mexican restaurants in the area you get so much more and the quality is unmatched.
Try your local Papusaria or bodega. There simply isn't other restaurant types that are as affordable and good.
Tao’s bao/ Tao’s bakery in stony brook. Really tiny hidden spot with great food that’s more authentic and way better priced than your typical asian american-restaurant around the same area. Might be a Korean family because they make amazing cold sesame noodles? Not sure but I miss going there often now that I don’t live nearby
Pollos el paisa
You truly can’t beat a good plate of from Pollos El Paisa with an ice cold Colombiana!
Exactly, or a manzana postobon
I second this. This is the best Columbian restaurant on LI and NYC. The flavors are consistently great with simple flavors. You'll never leave hungry. Best bang for the buck and we always bring home left overs.
Those empanadas…
Holy shit, I haven't heard this name in a while. My family would send me out to this restaurant to treat ourselves every now and again and I had no idea it had such a high profile on this sub lol
Just tried it based on the comments. They were closing in 30 minutes. Kitchen was closing. So, just got the basics. Rotisserie chicken, rice, & beans. Not tasting any seasoning or flavor. Did I order the wrong things?!
Colombian food is not particularly spicy.
I don’t like spicy food much. But thank you for informing me! Maybe it was just an off night since it was late.
Love the fish here in particular!! And their Beans are the best!!
The buñuelos are good. Nice and firm, but NOT crusty, outside and airy and fluffy on the inside.
Oaxaca in Huntington - superb Mexican food.
Better than that overpriced dump, Pancho Villa
Their enchiladas are insanely good. I’ve gotten take out from there more times than I can remember. Always consistent and not a hit to the wallet.
Anything this group has done was amazing, Oaxaca, Quetzequatl, Chichimecas (RIP)
They really are very good. I miss Quetzalcoatl so much mostly just because it was bigger and I liked the feel inside more (and the filet mignon poblano was soo good- I don’t think Oaxaca has it). but I’ll still go to Oaxaca
A fav before seeing a show at the paramount
Love this place
Oaxaca rocks and has amazing service
Howard’s Cafe in Patchogue is a favorite, so is Gallo. For Mexican Mi Pueblito is hands down my all time favorite.
Bird and Bao hands down
Bird and Bao is most excellent (probably the best food spot in Patchogue, IMO), but I’d say they’re somewhat pricey for their weight class.
Yeah, I spent over $50 to take my then 10 year old twins there for lunch. That's not cheap for one adult and 2 kids
I could easily spend $30 on myself there lol
Yeah they’re great but I wouldn’t call them inexpensive
Agreed. They are good, but they are not what I consider inexpensive.
Do you follow them on Instagram? They show their upcoming specials for the end of the week and they are always amazing
Not sure if I would consider them inexpensive
Well it’s not “expensive” ?
I guess it's just pensive.
Bird and Bao was my first thought as well. I am happy to see it mentioned here.
I’ve gotten full trays to the face of their bao buns. Solid place.
Little Mexico in ~~Uniondale~~ Westbury.
Bambu in Stony Brook.
Their food is surprisingly good
Fantastic Bahn Mi
Their bubble tea is pretty awesome too
Tara’s inn, dive bar cheap good food
Been a minute since I've had the paper plate with a burger and chips on it for a ridiculous price.
back in the day that place used to be so amazing so much good food they fell way off and are a shadow of what they were 20 years ago
Fun place. Last time there the girl i was with met another girl who looked fsmiliar. Theybhad spent a night in jail together 2 years prior. Fun night of bad ass stories. Passed it two nights ago...typical fun biker crowd.
And then a local was killed there and the food seemed not so worth the price - no?
That was billes
Actually this happened at the Tara Inn. Thank you for your input.
And it happens at Billies too a few years ago. There was also a murder/suicide in where the new Toast is when it was Pour House
Sure did! PJS is a shady area. I just try to remain mindful of the person I know who lost his life at the Tara inn.
Dosa world in Hicksville
The Good Life - Massapequa Park, Meet Izakaya - Commack, New Wave Seafood - Wantagh

If you find yourself in the garden city area check out spankys food factory
Vouching for Spankys, but I'm not sure if it's a particularly stellar value. About what you would normally pay for wings and stoner food. Also, it's Garden City Park, not Garden City.
Big difference lol thanks for the clarification
Eatcetera in Bohemia, $2 empanadas that, while are on the smaller side, are tasty with a ton of different flavors. They also have several lunch specials on the cheaper side
Great place
Will second this. haven't been there in a few years but I would go out of my way to eat there during my breaktime
They're empanadas are killer. They just started doing breakfast ones too
Oh awesome, I haven’t been back in a few months but now I want to try these
Cactus cafe in Selden!
Claws in Sayville is one of the best “bang for buck” spots, IMO. Honorable mentions to Clay Oven (Selden & Hauppauge) and Flame Halal Gyro in Patchogue.
Love Claws but I wouldn’t call their lobster roll “inexpensive”. Best in the area though.
$22 for a lobster roll is pretty damn cheap, relatively speaking.
It was $19.95 over the summer
MB Ramen in Huntington, amazing place right across from the Paramount!!!
Actually, that’s the part I really don’t mind. The place has a Lower East Side vibe.
Once we were seated at a table (and thankfully not the bar) it was a totally fine experience. Standing and waiting to be seated in the little crowded hallway directly behind the people eating at the bar and with the owner/whoever that was running back and forth between us to help people was a bit awkward. There a lot in Patchogue. We like Bird and Bao, any of the walk in hot plate bodegas, That Chicken Place, and there’s a Yaas tea now which is great for a delicious drink
Which bodegas?!
I am a fan of Las Brisas which is in a shopping center with Gran Amazonia and La Familia. All delicious! There’s a few on Main Street and to be honest I don’t know their names. I just walk in and see what they have.

La Famiglia is awesome and reasonable prices
Where is that?
I think they have several locations but I’ve only been to the smithtown one. Family style Italian food
There was a pizza place/ restaurant next door to me in sound beach with the same name. Wasn’t sure if that’s what you meant
Def not cheap!
I realize “cheap” is a relative term. I just went w my wife and got a substantial 3 course dinner and round of drinks for $100.. you don’t get that many other places these days.
True food is really good and the portions are big!
Off The Block Kitchen and Meats in Sayville

A $20 burger isn’t inexpensive to you? /s

Debatable definitely but not as high priced as other places around the island
Delicious but not inexpensive
This place is amazing!

Go to Robkes in Northport for lunch. The greatest lunch on this planet. Also, Uthai in Woodbury for lunch is great.
Maybe if the service wasn’t trash (if you’re not quasi-“famous”) and the food didn’t come out cold half the time. Source: tried it three times. Seen enough other comments suggesting the same. Lol their type of famous is the local washed up boomers who frequent the bar.

Try Osteria Umbra in Smithtown. You’ll love it.
Thanks for the tip!!
The Trattoria in St. James is the best Italian restaurant on Long Island, IMO. Only problem is you need to call about 2 weeks in advance to secure a table.
Forgot about them, we did go last year and it was very good! The owner/chef is very kind as well
