There was a haunted house and tree at Adventureland for many many years

braedan51

Adventurous_Ad_3048

What do you mean? Tell me more ?!

circumcisingaban

legend has it that its not a normal tree that grows from a seed planted in the ground. it was built. you can tell that the bark doesnt look quite right when you look at it closely. its close, but you can tell

circumcisingaban

Ok this is a good one i never heard of until recently. I watched a docuseries about Amityville Horror. It was on MGM+, so good luck with that lol. Apparently, George Lutz was visiting an occult shop in Bay Shore. It was behind Main St on 3rd ave i think. The guy who ran it was friends with Alistair Crowly, and is credited for bringing witchcraft, wiccan , and paganism to America. He held satanic rituals in the basement with skulls and a book of the dead. The series wasnt claiming that George Lutz was worshipping the occult, just more that he was learning some spooky stuff to throw in his haunted house bullshit story. The shop was in the living room of this guys house, which is now an empty lot. There are pics of it online. I never heard any of this before and i live a few blocks away in Bay Shore. Ray Buckland was his name. Ill see if i can find the video clip i filmed off my tv lol.

Hecatomber_RoF

I had a weird experience at sweet hallow rd

TollundMan2100

Used to live on sweet hollow road (house 501 right at the end by the cemetery). WEIRD things happened in this house: lights and tv turning in randomly while the family was out. Dogs barking at random spot in the middle of the floor, and we could often hear loud shrieks coming from the wooded area in outback yard. The eeriest part about living there is that about every month or so, someone would crash their car between the over pass and 501 (so cars would crash as they pass the cemetery). One morning I was horrified to find a car battery on my front porch as I was leaving for 3rd grade. My step father would bring us out into the wooded area for nature hikes every one in a while in the summer. During one hike we stumbled on a clearing with a run down little house on it. Standing next to this house was a young blonde woman in a white dress. She looked up from the clearing and asked “do you know where the closest cemetery is?” I totally forgot we were right next to one but my step father abruptly replied “no, sorry” and hurried us back onto the trail. I still think this was a high schooler playing a prank based on the already published story of “Mary” but my child brain didn’t know that at the time. Also my high school friends later claimed to be stopped by a ghost cop under the overpass but I don’t believe that

ursamajr

Ok holy sh*t. Please read my story I just posted in the comments. I didn’t see this before I posted.

Baseballfan199

Do tell!

Hecatomber_RoF

Okay, so this took place in West Hill County Park. I was walking along the trail and saw a stump that looked like a tiny little house. Not like a real house, but a fairy house. You can look them up on Google. People make art of them. I don't know if any of you all have ever been to Wyld Chyld tattoo in Merrick, but the store owner's mother makes them, and they have a couple there. Nature's a big thing for me, and I really wasn't feeling great mentally, so I decided to sit and just vent to the emptiness. As I'm doing that, I hear this weird clapping that sounds much more like a deer or a small horse clacking its Hooves on something. I thought it was weird, but I attributed it to a deer doing something stupid and continued on. As I continued down, everything started to become Gray, and I had a growing sense of dread. Like something wanted me to keep walking down that path for really nefarious reasons. So I did what every giant man does, and I continued walking down the path, the feeling of dread now making the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. And I look at this tree, and I just get such a feeling of danger from this tree that I actually turned around and started walking toward my car. The whole time I'm saying shit out loud like “ If you eat me I'll give you indigestion” “ You’ll fucking choke on me” “ Fuck you stupid ghost kill me, put me on your level and Watch What Happens.” Looooot of tough talk. 5 minutes pass and I start feeling a little bit better but just keeping my wits about me and I swear to you a runner appeared in front of me, like straight out of a fucking portal. There was no way that I could not see this guy. The path was straight. After leaving I felt like that was my one chance to see something Supernatural and I feel like I got too scared and walked away. I went back to try to see if I felt anything again, even found the tree and nothing. Edit: on mobile, sorry for meh grammar

Baseballfan199

I go to that park all the time! Where is the spider stump you speak of? I’ve been there early in am before sunrise and after sunset—thank goodness I’ve never felt unsafe or uneasy. Maybe my dogs protect me from the spirits?

Hecatomber_RoF

Spied a stump, talk to text, and not proofreading is my superpower.

Baseballfan199

Aha. Which side of park? Where Boy Scouts camp out or horse trail side?

Hecatomber_RoF

I come in from Sweet Hollow Road by the two big cement blocks, I believe that's the horse trail

Baseballfan199

Aha. Very familiar with that area. Part of my walking path

Hecatomber_RoF

Who knows tbh, honestly I thought the whole thing was in my head, but then I remember the clacking, that was sure as shit not in my head

ursamajr

I just posted my story about Sweet Hollow Road before reading the comments!

reddit_1999

Google "popper the poltergeist seaford haunted house" for an interesting story that was supposedly an inspiration for the Poltergeist movie.

Imboredsoimhere123

The country house, kings park asylum, lake Ronkonkoma are some of the places I know to have been said to be haunted. Also if and when you do publish the book I'd definitely like to be notified so I can check it out!

chamrockblarneystone

William Sydney Mount House and The Haunted Carriage in the Stony Brook Carriage Museum are two to look up. Not very well known. Good history stuff too

I actually own a building in Bay Shore (built in 1886) that has uh, a lot of unexplained happenings over the years (reported by multiple people who stay overnight there) if you were interested! It’s currently a Japanese martial arts studio (which is what we bought it for) but has given us quite the spooks over the years. - When we would be working on it during the construction phase, I kept hearing a music box tinkling away and would ask everyone to stop for a moment so I could locate it. Never found it but it happened near constantly. - My husband would hear someone calling his name and he would think it was me, so he’d call back or come downstairs to open the door but no one would be there. - A student of ours was play fighting with his girlfriend (they lived there for a bit) when their african grey parrot suddenly shrieked “Who’s there? Who’s there?” and as he walked towards their door, all the books on the shelves in front of him fell off. Maybe earthquake? - I was waiting for Saturday morning class to start when I heard the stereo in front of me click on, and a girl’s voice started speaking from it—explaining her name, age, where she was from etc. and I thought it was my husband about to put on music for his morning routine (he was in the other room on his computer)—but I froze when it said “Something is hurting me, something is killing me. It killed me. please tell my parents, my teachers, the corrections officer—“ I jumped up and ran to the other room and started freaking out at my husband, accusing him of playing a really morbid prank, who was very confused and finally calmed me down enough to show me the stereo wasn’t even plugged in. (I actually assume it picked up an audiobook or something.) - A different student who stayed there later (who had no idea about the other things—they only spoke up after I asked) complained that several times they would wake up and their cell phone which should have been on their side table was gone. They’d look high and low for it and would find it sitting outside their locked door in the hallway. They thought someone was playing a joke on them. I assume sleep walking? - A friend visited and stayed overnight. The rocking chair in the corner of the bedroom just started rocking for no reason. No breeze, nothing, and it was like hard rocking. They’re extreme skeptics and don’t believe in any of this stuff, but they did admit they turned on all the lights and went to sleep in the living room instead. I assume earthquake? - One night my husband and I woke up to the sound of footsteps and sweeping in the main hall. He would get up and go see but every time he did it would stop, only to start again when we tried to go back to sleep. We assume rats or a squirrel on this one but it was weird. - One time we were hosting a barbecue and I went up the main stairs to go get more plates. It was dark already and I heard someone pacing in the back of the hall where the plates and cups were, I thought because there was another staircase there leading to the yard where the barbecue was held, someone came up that way to help me. I called out to them and the footsteps stopped, before it started up again. I got annoyed thinking my husband was trying to scare me (he can be a bit of a prankster) so I flipped on the lights and the plastic cups from where the footsteps came from all fell down. Maybe rats again? Anyway, feel free to message me if you thought this was interesting!

perfect_fifths

Interview the people at Katie’s in Smithtown. That place has been on every paranormal show (Ghost Brothers, Paranormal State, Ghost Adventures, etc) and all the employees have stories

AdNo8906

Montauk Manor its neighboring cemetery, and/or Camp Hero

WillingFly2079

I am sorry but i think you mean it is built on native American burial grounds!!! Def haunted. As well as the mtk projects “camp hero” And if you end up that way please take a drive down Stoney Hill Road….. something isn’t right about that road

Business_Ad_4901

Montauk is for sure haunted. I have a picture taken on the rocks off montauk pt. There's a man in the picture that was not behind us nor next to us when we took the picture. Yet he was right in the picture but half hi body is missing.

eldermillenial43

Sweet hollow road!

big_als_nugz

South haven park ufo crash

reality_club

I was friends with Ricky Kasso and Gary Lauwers. Look up Ricky, Northport satanic murder. He was crazy.

astrowahl

those woods are fucked at night

chamrockblarneystone

The Acid King?

reality_club

Yeah that guy. I said I was “friends” but not really. He was an asshole.

chamrockblarneystone

The background story I read on him was that he dad was an abusive gym teacher. Also that the murder was really about some acid that got stolen from him while he was at a party. What do you know?

chuckredux

Mary's Grave in St. James.

Rodrigii_Defined

That's what I'm remembering, I think. Wasn't there a creepy black gate?

chuckredux

It was a stone crypt-like structure with no roof/ceiling. It was overrun with ivy and vines right near the water. Last time I was there was almost 10 years ago.

Jealous-Network1899

All Long Island ghost stories start and end at Raynham Hall in Oyster Bay.

MayorMcLovin

The Hanging Tree right by the water in Patchogue. They used to hang accused witches and since it was right above the water leave them to sink

Fili-poet

You know those books that are in CVS? There is a book like the one you are writing, but about historic crime I flipped through it waiting for a Vax one day, might be a good cross reference for you as you collect stories: https://share.libbyapp.com/title/3461185

Teachtag

Villa Paul, Hampton Bays. Ghost visits restaurant. It has been written up in the local papers.

AyeJai88

The hell house is massapequa. I’ve been obsessed with the place for years!

AbbreviationsGlad833

Stonybrook country house restaurant in historic stonybrook is haunted by a young girl dating back to the american revolution.

ursamajr

Fourth of July. Me and some friends had a run in with a cop on Sweet Hollow road while Geocaching. He was standing by the car when we returned from the woods and told us to be on our way. No ticket, no issues. We all piled back into the car in silence and watched him out the rear window watching us as we pulled away. He just stood there. It gave us the creeps. Didn’t learn until later that we weren’t the only ones. Talked to someone online and was asked if I saw the back of his head. None of us did. Apparently an apparition has been seen on that stretch of road, missing the back of its head. Ok I’m editing this to put a little more info after reading the comments. I didn’t know the cop thing was actually a… thing. We just heard the stories after the fact. Heard about a woman in white and some accidents but I had no idea that others had experiences with a cop as well! We only went there for a geocache and knew none of the lore at the time. This was back in 2006.

Nail_Biterr

The Country House in Stony Brook is apparently haunted. My friend is convinced she saw a ghost on the street outside there. She thought she saw a pedestrian get hit at night - the car that hit it, she and another car all got out and there was nothing. All three saw the same thing - a girl just lazily walking right into traffic.

AbbreviationsGlad833

The ghost is of Annette Williams. She was hanged in her bedroom in that house by patriot soildiers for consorting with a redcoat soldier who was staying at the house when it was used as a tavern.

bluetomboy24

Not my story but I could point you to a potential story. Where there is now a Jersey Mike's in Bohemia on Lakeland Ave used to be some old restaurant. It's been closed for as long as I can remember. My dad said it was haunted but I never got anymore details then that. You can still see the building on Google maps. It's been torn now but I'm sure some people near by might know the stories.

gilgobeachslayer

Normandie Inn. Don’t have stories but that might help. Also people are convinced what is now the People’s Pub in Bayport is haunted (has been a tavern since the 1860s or so).

damuser234

It’ll always be Grey Horse Tavern to me

two_fathoms

Shipwrecks? Hurricanes?

samsa29

I saw a ghost in my basement once

Rodrigii_Defined

Creepy gate, Mary? In Stony Brook, but I forget, this was 80's/90's.

mrmcnoob12

Honestly if you want a building that 100% haunted Sagamore Hill is the best place both houses are haunted and it’s the former presidents house

No_Cryptographer_676

The PT Barnum houses in port Jefferson. Apparently he lived in one and the talent lived in the other. Rumors about the cruel treatment of the talent has lead to multiple ghost stories/sightings.

SpinningYarmulke

There’s a book out there called Weird N.Y. Written by Chris Gethard has a few Long Island spots in it. Including Lady of Lake Ronkonkoma and Tiny Town. Two others not in the book I’ve heard about are the Devils Ring in Commack and The High-Ts trail. The Devils ring was a supposed meeting place for a satanist group back in the day. It’s near Oswego park. You can see it as you drive past it. The High-Ts was a walking trail that got too close to power lines. The story I heard was a kid got fried and killed riding his bike onto one of the power lines. I remember riding through the trail on bike and it was covered with trash, condoms, beer bottles it was located near Deer Park Ave.

astrowahl

Northport woods out near crab meadow/Ft salonga - Ricky Kasso, scary dude check out the murder!

Gunslinger_327

As a semi inactive paranormal investigator, I have several places you can look into. Sagtikos Manor, Amityville Masonic Temple, etc. Feel free to reach out.

akaharry

There are 3 “known” ghosts at what is now [Harbor Mist Restaurant](https://harbormistli.com). Some of the employees have claimed to see them. Give the restaurant a call

Dry_Masterpiece8319

Old Bethpage Quaker cemetery across the street from Bethpage State Park is supposed to be haunted
