I’m referring to Jimmy Burke’s actions over a decade ago when they started finding bodies in Gilgo, he took the lead on the investigation, and how he thwarted the FBIs involvement until he was arrested for an unrelated crime a few years later.

In both Nassau and Suffolk the police unions are large enough, when you take into account family members, to decide the major elections. No policy of either party that angers the unions can stand.
Your taxes pay salaries and a portion of said salaries go to the unions. That’s not unique as far as public sector unions are concerned. However, the various close races make any large block of voters powerful and the various police unions; PBA, SOA, COA, and the fourth one I can never remember, along with the CSEA, have memberships large enough to tip scales. It’s okay if they don’t take a side but if they endorse your opponent, you’re likely done.
