In retrospect I'm kind of surprised no one blamed Gandalf for Bilbo's disappearance. Bilbo literally vanished before their eyes never to be seen again meanwhile there's a guy who knows actual magic at the scene of the crime who then runs away immediately afterwards.
I mean, in the book they literately did blame Gandalf. To be more specific it became a rumor that it was a plot by Gandalf and Frodo to get at Bilbo’s “exceptional wealth”.
