Limeddaesch96

Couldn‘t they have thrown the ring into the void beyond Arda by simply sailing to the edge?

I get so mad at Frodo every time I watch RoTK. Like, I get it: You’re addicted to Ring and you feel bad. ***we know***. now stop whining. Also, you had to have Sam carry your goldbrickin’ ass up Mt. Doom and then as soon as you’re there you’re dancing around slap-fighting with Gollum. *grow up*

I understand why one would be mad at Frodo, but consider the following: - the ring is constantly bombarding Frodo's mind, it was weakening it throughout the whole 3 movies. - the ring changes weight constantly, that is why Frodo carries it on his neck, and why the back of his neck is raw meat at the end of the movies (they kind of also explain this in the book, I think). - the ring is not just attacking his mind, it is corrupting his soul, Frodo, even after destroying it, still has scars in his soul, that is why he goes with the elves, dude is physically and spiritually tired always. - Sam has to do much of the basic tasks because Frodo is literally always slowly dying... - Frodo, besides gollum, is probably the only person that was able to hold the ring actively (Bilbo kind of just forgot about it). - The ring is not meant to be thrown in the fire, no one could ever do it, it would do a last ditch effort and mind control you. - Without Sam, Frodo would have not last much on his journey, Sam was instrumental, he provided a lot of moral support, physical support, and was the person in charge of mostly every basic task, however, had he shared the burden of carrying the ring, they would have killed each other (yes, Sam had the ring for a moment, and although he resisted it, he would eventually fall, also, Sam KNEW the ring was like that before he first carried it, Frodo had been poisoned by it before he actually knew what it actually was). Frodo is not the normal type of hero, he is one that avoids confrontation, he is peaceful, not actually made for adventures, he is a bit on the frail side, and yes, he is a flawed one because he succumbed at the end, you can see part of that shame at the end, but it is because he also lost so much of himself and survived. Using the addiction metaphor, imagine using one of the most addictive drug ever for years, being completely fucked because of it, then, before you actually stop using it, you go to try it "one last time" while your friend that used it once tries to stop you; however, before you are able to use it one last time you are taken to a rehab center where you can't use it anymore. After years you are better, but years of drug abuse have changed you.

Because Master did not ask.

SaltyBoos

Gollum would have absolutely carried the ring for Frodo if he would have only asked.

>You’re addicted to Ring and you feel bad. You know that's a serious understatement, right?

Kengion
