The video standard that communicates between the laptop and the external monitor is DisplayPort but the cable used is USB-C, which is an alternative to HDMI.
If you had a monitor with USB-C out port for data and charging your phone and tried to plug in your laptop to it with a USB-C to C cable, there wouldn't be any signal on the monitor.
I have the S3423DWC and it's spec page reads:
>USB-C upstream/DisplayPort 1.4 Alt Mode

Thanks for sharing. Any chance you know of the reason the USB-C is showing as DisplayPort in MacOS or if there’s a solution without third party apps?
