This is not something new. In the past happened before. Affected brands if im not mistaken were king cup and tc boy. There were others but cant remember the name as they were less known brands
Just curious whether this worms that were found, were they already dead when found? Cause I imagine these fish in cans are cooked, and the cans are probably sterilized in heat too
The canned sardines have already been cooked fully.
Most people who will eat it will heat it up, or cook it more.
The parasites are dead. Most seafood you eat have parasites, that's why it's advised not to eat raw seafood in some places.
Not all parasites affect humans, it's just nasty to think about. You most definitely have parasites on or in you too. It's just the ecosystem.
If you always cook your food, this parasitic nematodes does not affect you in any way, unless you are japanese love to eat raw seafood. Swimming in sea and drink a bit of sea water you already ingest numerous nametodes, be it free living or parasitic one, but no one bat an eye on that😅. If they really cook the can sardine there should be no living nematodes in there, how the heck they cook it🤷♂️
The worm already there during capture.
Cook kill the worm but worm still there.
Im not sure about safety, but our health ministry had own rule like how much is allowed or whatever.
We had similar cases last time. Iinm the fish is souced from contaminated area. So MOH ban the brand
So dont cheap out when buying sardines.
Lots of canned fish contain parasites, doesn't matter whether its cheap or expensive.
I mean, heck, they've even been used to estimate changes in ocean health: [https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/decades-old-cans-of-salmon-reveal-changes-in-ocean-health/](https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/decades-old-cans-of-salmon-reveal-changes-in-ocean-health/)
Either way, the canning process will kill practically everything, so unless they found \_live\_ worms... Feels more like they're looking for an excuse to fine them.
They didn’t say if the worms were dead or alive? If dead it’s a non issue, lots of fish have parasites. So I’m guessing they were possibly alive, maybe the canning process was poorly done and some eggs survived and hatched?
If the potograph is from the sample, that's a living nematode. I studied plant parasitic nematodes, my sis on marine nematodes, dead nematodes does not look like that.
What if, for example, the buyer feed the sardines uncooked, to his cat or dog?
Anyway, sardines are already cooked and ready to eat right? We are just reheating it right?
I kind of remember eating sardines once, straight from the can without heating, long long time ago.
Common worm parasite in fish are anisakis. Their only risk to us if we swallow them live, even then not serious as they can only last few days inside us and their early life requires crustaceans to develop. As long as they're dead, be it by cooking or chewing, it's safe.
There's really shouldn't be anything surprising from this. Even clean aquarium isn't safe from parasite, and you expect 0 of them from farmed fish??
Parasitic worms are common in fishes- like bugs on a cabbage and mould on fruits. As long as it is dead, they will not harm the consumer so cook your fish throughly. Stop scaremongering
Yalor.. wtf the photos never show the Brands...
Maybe the Malaysia authorities are afraid to piss off the China company?
And only dare to punish the local illegal importer?
My understanding of this is that with any legal proceedings, they keep media in the dark until a decision is made so that the jury doesn't get influenced.

welp... now i have trust issues eating canned sardines now. nope. just nope.
Same.. next time i will cut open to check first before heating...
Well if you heat it high, it should not matter.
You're already doing it right by heating it
Doesn’t most meat/fish have parasites? That’s why you’re supposed to cook it thoroughly.
Maybe this one is special hard to kill parasite? The Malaysia authority treat this as a very serious case.
Anisakis is a parasite killed by heat. Very common in sushi, that's why sushi chefs inspect raw fish fillets.
Just curious whether this worms that were found, were they already dead when found? Cause I imagine these fish in cans are cooked, and the cans are probably sterilized in heat too
Worms are 100% dead. Anisakis are killed by heat

Thanks. Then would you buy this affected batch of Sardines as reported in the news?

Yeah, you can eat straight from the can.

So you are willing to swallow this batch of Sardines? Good, we've found a volunteer!
Cooked, chew and swallow, sure. Been there done that, even. Rawdog swallow, nope.
Lel. Any food got chance of parasite. Just cook them properly. Canned food is cooked so safe from parasite
Ya. You said canned food is cooked and safe from parasite. BUT THIS case is the canned sardines are found With parasites! Alive!
No where in the article says it is alive
No where in the article says the parasites found are cooked or dead. Photos suggest they are alive and thus raised the alarm and investigation.
Parasites can't survive the heat.
Lol bodo
Dune
the parasite already cooked together with the sardines
SG authority sleeping oso lmao
