The reason they are that high is because the tv is designed to sit on them. You could go a maybe a foot or so above above that. It depends on the size of the tv, but any higher, and it starts to not be good.

Mount the tv to the top of the ceiling like a normal person. You need at least a 6 foot gap that and the media unit. /s
