Spotted lanternfly nymph. Kill on sight.

AriAUMode

They also hop like a spider cricket; must’ve looked like an idiot chasing one this morning on my street 🤦🏽‍♂️

anowulwithacandul

They really do, I knocked one out with Fabuloso the other day

macfairfieldmill

Hahhah this is a hilarious depiction. Spray or pour bottle?

OmegaWhirlpool

Sprayed to stun, and then dumped the rest of the bottle on top. I'm not the original commenter.

anowulwithacandul

Spray bottle, it was hopping around so I couldn't smack it 😂 had to blast it out of the air

SonicKooth

Hahahaha

Loading3percent

Good idea to stun it with a spray. I unironically might start carrying a can of axe with me.

kayl_breinhar

They also take quite a lot of punishment for an insect before giving up the ghost, so make sure they're dead as you might just "stun" them.

Emfoor

I mash em down with my work boots just for the damn thing to jump away. They're abominations

ImpossiblePotato5197

I swear they are attracted to my forehead! They just bounce right on me!

GuiloJr

*Sakura noise intensifies*

leadfarmer154

They can't see very well straight ahead. If you try to sneak up from behind they can see you better. I don't know how. They are everywhere in Jefferson Co WV.

Front_Reflection_545

Only relevant answer. Murder them now.

noteasybeincheesy

Shit! I just saw one of these yesterday, and just gave it a wide berth because it kinda skeeved me out. Wish I had known earlier.

High_Seas_Pirate

They won't hurt you, but they're invasive. The main threat they pose is to trees, crops and plants. [Details](https://extension.psu.edu/spotted-lanternfly)

Winter_Lab_401

So, murder?

Inside-Doughnut7483

🎼Become the hotstepper... Murderer!🎶 😂

damnedspot

![gif](giphy|5nsiFjdgylfK3csZ5T|downsized)

Wooden-Juggernaut-82

Report to the wildlife services as well because they are invasive

BoaConstrictor01

Here I thought that there were some charming weevils at the camp I volunteer at. Darn.

Wwdiner

Snoot but no boots

Slater36000

I'm in rosedale there's hundreds in my small yard

ImpossiblePotato5197

Some crazy vids of creative ways to kill lots of them at once on YT

KhajitKatcher

yes my liege… i shall kill in your name!

danktopus

Spotted Lantern Fly nymphs. Smash those little fuckers when you see them. They’re an invasive species that does serious damage to trees and plants like grapevines and hops. (As soon as I found out they could fuck with my beer, war was declared…)

Obiwandkinobee

Messing with the beer supply is an absolute F-no. I will continue to do my part now that I have have ascertained the threat. I'll take them down with me if I have to! ![gif](giphy|MPdSxDlGpjvjOAjaSn)

danktopus

![gif](giphy|krPLl9dtitApa)

PropheticDestiny

Last summer, they were everywhere - surprised you didn't notice them then; they're a pretty decent size as adults.

attymarie

Dance Gavin Dance mention!!!

SBTRCTV

OnlyHunan

And battle come down?

SantasLilHoeHoeHoe

Not defending them, kill on sight. But [luckily it seems the damages to our crops was significantly less than expected](https://cals.cornell.edu/new-york-state-integrated-pest-management/outreach-education/whats-bugging-you/spotted-lanternfly/spotted-lanternfly-damage#:~:text=Spotted%20lanternflies%20do%20not%20appear,grapes%20and%20some%20other%20crops.&text=Sooty%20mold%20grows%20on%20the,also%20attracts%20other%20insect%20pests.) Ironically they feed on the Tree of Heaven, which is an invasive tree.

Shojo_Tombo

The ones in my yard also feed on Porcelain Berry vine, which is another invasive plant (related to grapes) that grows freaking everywhere here.

Imaginary_Career_427

Have them too. How do u kill them.

danktopus

Please reference above gif

ZealousidealPie8227

You can stomp them out. Also they make glue traps for trees if that is what you need

TheJokersChild

Whack 'em. Quick. Those fuckers MOVE.

WindWalkerRN

Fly swatter is pretty easy, they’re quite dumb and slow, but very much invasive

LittleBrother2459

https://i.redd.it/gbenpcgb7x8d1.gif

WindWalkerRN

And wine too!!

Hameis

I'm losing my fight, any tips?

danktopus

You can spray the nymphs and the adults with a sprayer that’s filled 2 parts 30% vinegar, 1 part water. Saturate them and the vinegar kills them. Be careful spraying around flowers, because that mixture will nuke sensitive plants. Trees shrug it off. Or you can just put the boots to them… medium style.

escapingartist

Raid perimeter spray is eh.. and it kills the pollinators. Dawn dish soap and water in a spray bottle kills them and saves your plants :)

Kill on sight. Report sighting. https://survey123.arcgis.com/share/26f9dbec58674313b1bec03ddb8b5f0e

Obiwandkinobee

Submitted! Thank you!

311MD311

Last I checked it said you can report them but they're generally not going to do anything about it. Seems they're accepting that it's not going to be possible to control

KoalaMeth

I think the reporting is meant for tracking their ever-expanding territory, not for sending people to come exterminate them for you.

Inside-Doughnut7483

Thank you for the link. Just submitted a report!

thewormthatneverdies

I bet I could go out in my backyard and find at least 50. Edit: More like 200

LemonGymnast

I’ve killed easily 1000 of them since the beginning on spring. They just keep multiplying - I’ve given up. This picture is of 2 glue traps I put on the patio. This is 3 days worth of them. I live in Baltimore city and only have a small patio, which is my only outdoor space. Unfortunately the trees around me (not sure what they are) are not on my property. https://preview.redd.it/g8u9sgsc9e9d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e694f626f3988b37639795f66eb66ff5464d9771

Lanternfly - kill them all!!

BethMD

rut-roh... In all seriousness, step on that fuck, and pray it's a female so you can say you destroyed her egg payload also.

eliteharvest15

it’s a nymph so i’m not sure if they’re reproducing yet

HoldMyBreadstick

Lanternfly. I had hundreds of them around my house a few years ago. I killed most of them and they haven’t been back.

macfairfieldmill

Illustrious-Log-3900

Spotted Lanternfly nymphs, I believe.

Gella321

They’re goddamn everywhere in my neck of the woods. If you have vines on your property that you don’t need to keep around, yank that shit out. They’re all over that stuff

Thoth-long-bill

Inspect your tree trunks for egg nests collaring them and glance around your house walls outdoors for mud nests

keyjan

Squish it.

219_Infinity

Kill it immediately

PhonyUsername

There's 1000s of these high in each tree. You can tell by seeing all the low level shrubs looking like they are covered in piss. They release a sugary discharge as they eat. Feel free to kill but there's 1000s up above either way.

Spotted lantern fly. They are invasive and should be eliminated on site

Desperate_Pass_5701

They're everywhere I know that. They're smaller than last year. Kill on sight.

Vcle_pee_pee

Yup, spotted lantern fly. They're here in Central PA too. Killed two today.

citytiger

Spotted lanternfly. Wipe them out. All of them.

SpoopySpagooter

Invasive little pricks, time to whip out the chancla 🩴 🦗

Classic_Ostrich8709

Kill on sight.

SorryImMimimal

Get two fly swatters so you can dual-wield on these dastardly SOBs. I'm like a lanternfly-killing Keith Moon out here. Every day. We're fast coming up on the time for them to transition to adulthood and, lemme tell you, THOSE things sure don't die pretty - a red, lumpy, gooey mess. The more that take the dirtnap now, the better. https://preview.redd.it/dpzn7kd87w8d1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5e4c8a4358eb038614490ef6abe1c45bad47497a

CriptenZefrel

I’ve been seeing these at work on my car. Good to know it’s time

smalltowndpt

Spotted laternfly, kill them when you see them, they are invasive and really don't belong here.

Thisam

They are much worse than stink bugs. Kill on sight please.

fatmallards

THE ENEMY. DESTROY IMMEDIATELY

xSwordsmenx

Kill the lantern fly. Also report to park rangers.

Fodder3921

Lantern fly, and they are quick, they hop away and look at you like “fucker, did you just try to step on me?”

Joyce_Hatto

Friendship with stinkbugs = over Friendship with spotted lantern fly = LFG!

fatcatdorito

Themowerman1

Spotted lantern fly. Kill without mercy

Rfilemyr

Yep I'm seeing the nymphs at my house that don't have the red yet and if I would have know I would have killed everyone! They are so bad for the environment!

DesireeChamille

Vinegar, sprayed in a stream, (straight or with a bit of dawn), will kill the black and white (smaller nymphs) as well as the ones that turn spotted red, before becoming the lager mature version which are harder to kill and smash. As someone else said, they cannot see straight in front of them. So I actually hitting them on a wall is easiest coming in from in front and slightly above with a flyswatter or flipflop! On the ground, stand beside, facing the same direction as they are and with the leg on their side, raise foot and knee, and come down with a horse-like pawing motion that can usually get them before they see it coming. Good luck. Report them if you see many to local DNR.

Bmorebeauty

LANTERN FLYS!!! The babies are little black barbarians that have barbed legs and refuse to die! I hate these stupid things and they fly and get stuck into your clothes and hair and then hitch a ride into the house. Then before you know it , you have new roommates that reproduce quickly! 🥴

IroncladPhantasm9

Spotted lanternfly baby, if u ever see one that shit is on sight, they eat crops and have no natural predators

mickmmp

Their ONLY redeeming quality is they aren’t bedbugs.

Mrs-Nila

Yup the spotted lanternfly nymph is correct. They are very invasive. I generally don't say kill it especially if it's not bothering you, but this is the exception to rule.

B17BAWMER

Kill it, immediately.

Fit-Art-9991

If you plan to visit any of the indicated northeastern states in which Spotted Lanternfly has been found, it is recommended you thoroughly wash and inspect your vehicles before leaving. Also, do not move firewood. All life stages of Spotted Lanternfly can hitchhike, but the eggs and adults pose the greatest risk for movement. In northern states, adults can lay their eggs on any outdoor flat surfaces from July to December. For more information on current counties that are under quarantine, please visit: https://nysipm.cornell.edu/environment/in vasive-species-exotic-pests/spotted-lanternflv/

They are baby spotted flies, kill them on sight!

Spotted lantern fly Kill it quickly!

KILL

DirtSunSeeds

Soapy water is your friend. I carry a spray bottle of it around the garden to nail problem critters like lantern flies.

mechanixrboring

Same. I have a dedicated bottle I leave outside and I go hunting when I let my dog out. Virtually kills on contact and isn't terrible for anything you spray it on, including yourself.

Lox22

Just soap and water?

Flashy-Protection424

KILL THESE ON SIGHT!!!

Parade2thegrave

Where have you been? Those little bastards have been taking over for 2 years. Kill, kill, kill…

Obiwandkinobee

I'm in Gaithersburg - And I go for alot of walks - this is my first time seeing them. However! I do remember about 3 days ago...I found a black and white one near my apartment door. Sprayed it about 30 times before it died.

Parade2thegrave

I envy you for not having seen them until now. Life was bliss before them. lol. They’re taking over and, you are correct, they are hard to kill. The babies are black and white, adults red and white. They’re the worst. I hate killing anything but it must be done. Apparently they target wine vineyards so, speaking as a serious wine lover, we must stop these creatures asap. lol

Sevin does wonders to wipe them out

Disastrous_Maize_737

I saw some in my apartment in Baltimore city; wild. Before that, I’d only ever seen them in Harford County where my MIL lives.

S-Kunst

They come in black with white spots at a younger age.

I saw one in Woodbridge VA last year. There is a solid chance it’s too late to do anything about it.

Wickedsunshine87

We have something similar, except the red looks to me more of an orange and they’re like I don’t know what but they get inside of the screen so in between our window and the screen, we have all these dead bugs trying to find out where they’re coming from but I just can’t. I spray a shit ton of bug spray, but that don’t stop them.

Fancy_Chips

SLF are pretty common in Pennsylvania and were in Baltimore city for a while. It seems they are spreading south

Ok-Comfort-7835

I saw a ton of them at my job in Pikesville

PeorgieT75

Somehow,I found a dead one in my basement; not sure how it got there, but I assumed my cats killed it. This was before it was publicized that they were invasive. I haven't seen one since.

BigThresher_1967

edevans92

Maki-Ela

Why kill on sight? I saw a black and white one I thought it was cool

Obiwandkinobee

That's initially what I thought. Then it flew at me when I opened my apartment door - and this is before I knew about what they were. I went back inside and sprayed it at least 30 times before it dissapeared and I'm assuming died. That was just the 2nd generation. 3rd Gen is the picture I took, and last form is the moth like appearance. Join the fight. ![gif](giphy|l3vRkwv2Yz6i8rDwY)
