Hi! Im the one who filmed it, ( you can check in my twitter account @calaveritabike) it was filmed with a GoPro, and it was a dog who got scared and run away... It wasn't mine, later I found the owner, it went viral in Mexico and theothe world, and i still see it sometimes like this, in Reddit.
Thank you for trying to catch up with the dog.
This was unfortunately how I lost one of my beagles. She ran out the front door and into the road one day.
Its a small dog, all small dogs think they could survive in the real world they don't realize they were bred to just fit in pocketbooks and look cute. They have no clue.
You'd think that but the dachshund was bred to hunt badgers and other burrow dwellers. Don't really see a dachshund vs badger going in favor of the Weiner dog but maybe older ones were tougher?
Traditionally dachshunds didn't come in the "miniature" size most popular today . Standards are closer to 30lbs. However, the miniature has fewer back problems due to a lighter weight and that has sort of phased out the standard size.
Terriers like this were bred to catch rats. My pom is a little princess that just wants to lay on pillows all day and my yorkie is the exact opposite. I have no doubt he would zoom for a mile if I let him. But he mostly just tells the squirrels to stay out of the yard and boss my great dane mix around.
I've seen smaller dogs trained to catch rats and mice etc. on farms where they are small enough to get into holes and tight areas. But this one does look smaller.
That or they use ferrets to catch rats instead.
Scared dogs can really really run with no thought of what the outcome will be. Several years ago in Florida, a kayaker found a Vizsla dog swimming offshore. It seemed hurt, and there was no sign of any owners around. As it turned out, the dog had been walking with its owner when the owner was struck by a car (don't remember if the owner died or not, but I believe they did) and the dog just ran in a panic. When it ran out of land, it started swimming, and just kept going until this guy found it.

That was hair raising. You almost got hit by the bus in the beginning and the dog went under the car. 😳 Glad everyone is safe. I would have cried if it were my dog. 🙏🙏🙏

If u are willing to run through traffic to catch your dog, then u should also be willing to dive on the concrete because this person was lucky they didn't get hit by a car.
What's crazier is that it's not even their dog, at the end she says "I don't know who's dog this is" implying she just saw the little thing running on the road and then decided to give chase. Honestly, hard to say if I'd react the same way. The streets here are fucking dangerous.

Because if you miss which you likely will because real life isn’t a action movie then you’re now laying on the road, in traffic, have severe road rash, possible broken bones, and now the dog is long gone.
It would be moronic to leap off the bike. Them corralling it to the side probably helped a lot.
If you dive and miss, there is no way you can catch the dog again and you could easily be run over. The strategy of shepherding the dog to the sidewalk + slowing down traffic is the most safe and effective.
I had a treat bag connected to the handle of our leash with a new puppy on a walk. Accidentally dropped the leash getting a treat out and the puppy freaked out because this thing was dragging behind it. Never saw a dog run so scared before in my life, lucky I was in a fenced in area so she was ok.
In spring 2018 my 18 year old chihuahua ran away from my partner and ran for a half mile total down our gravel driveway (350 m) and then the paved road (350m) before a driver pulled over in front of the dog to cut her off. After that she never really ran again, like that was the last of her running energy before she passed five years later.
Flowing with traffic too. A few dicey passes. But good coordination with the other cars overall. If I were the instructor, I’d pass him and issue a driver’s license.
Edit to add credit: @calaveritabike on Twitter!
"Aguas, aguas, aguas, aguas..." at the beginning. It's to make people aware of a situation. Used in Mexico if I'm not mistaken. Like, "look out, look out!"
No, no!: When the car seems to strike the dog at the beginning.
"Alto, alto..." later on, "stop, stop" to the cars I presume.
"Agarrelo, agarrelo, agarrelo!" to the people on the side walk, "grab it, grab it!"
"Agerrelo perrito!" "grab the doggy!"
"Agarralo agarralo eso! No?" When the first attempt fails. She must have been tired by then, that dog was really running.
"Gracias, gracias, 'something' buscar porque no sé de quién es." "Thanks, thanks, I have to search because I don't know who's the owner."
More or less.
Edit: She's probably wearing a mask while riding her bike a few words I don't get clearly.
Besides, it seems like people on the side walk think she should get off her bike to grab it. Of course, they think it's her dog, but it's not so the dog won't come to her if she calls for it.
ETA: I know it's X now, I call it Twitter still XD

Oh, you did a great job! Like people on the street were yelling for you to get off the bike, right? I imagine they thought it was your dog, which sure, why would you risk your neck for a strangers dog XD
Sorry I missed you were female, I guess is the mask, I couldn't tell tbh.
And what of the dog? What did the owner tell you? He ran so much, I couldn't believe it.
Look, I want to be sympathetic, but that dog was pretty much a 100% candidate for natural selection at several points there. Survival instincts of a bag of potatoes.
That fucking thing was running like it didn't plan to stop, and it ran like a mile. What was it running like that for?

Dumb fucking is as dumb fucking does
Dogs lack many of the traits that a human brain has, but that doesn't necessarily make them stupid. This dog is stupid.
I am familiar with this breed... Can confirm they are dumb as a bag of rocks. Cute tho
Dont feed dogs chocolates

You are the MVP for returning that dog, such an awesome person.
Who was the dog running from though? ![gif](giphy|EZpFvc90uR3Hi|downsized)
Kristi Noem
Winning answer

Nothing on Reddit is topping that answer today!
In this instance, an absolute stranger.

That was a nice chase! Bet you got a good workout too. Just curious- were you planning on just reaching down and trying to grab the dog/leash somehow?
I tried, but it was a very small dag, a puppy.
Hey!! You did really really well chasing that puppy down! Really, you are an awesome human.👍👍
This was a great day for Mexico, and therefore, the world.
Well, a bit of an upside for Mexico, and the world. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat_smile) May we get more small-but-good wins in our cities!
Thank you for trying to catch up with the dog. This was unfortunately how I lost one of my beagles. She ran out the front door and into the road one day.
You are a hero and a legend.
No todos los héroes llevan capa
You are very brave and deserve a medal.
Were you on a bike? All I could think is "wow this guy can run really fast and seems to have a lot of stamina too"
Yep, it was a simple bycicle

That, and the standards kept getting bred for longer and longer backs. Poor things.
The original breed didn't have dwarfism like they do now

The videos of rat catching dogs are insane. It's like the doom slayer being unleashed.

Me too!
Exactly what I did 😂😂
Am I the only one who isn't chasing this stupid fucking dog?
More suspense in under 2 minutes than the entirety of recent superhero movies
The whole time i clenched my jaw like anything 😂

You are a great person! Without you that dog surely wouldn't have made it.
You are a hero.
That's why they used a GoPro.
My god, you are more brilliant than Christopher Doyle, that cinematographer Anthony Bourdain simped so hard for.
Brave soul. Hero!
Glad you are ok, looked like you were almost hit by vehicles multiple times
Most superhero movies, in fairness..

How did you not get hit by the bus or hit the curb in the first part of the video?
As a former cyclist, I'm guessing it's just experience squeezing by every day. But I winced at that point too, would prefer having more space myself.
Last time i tried something like that my handle bar got caught and I got launched like a rocket, which is why I never did it again.

Thank you for going after it and making sure it was safe and reunited with its owner!
Kudos to you for chasing after it! We're you able to reunite it with is owner?
Yes, after the end of the video, i walked to search for the owner and I did find it
You're amazing and I love you 😭

😲 that dog is nuts
Just bad decision after bad decision
I fucking hate dogs that do this.
I love animals, but there’s certain dogs I just wanna punt.
jesus that things running like it wanted to die by wheel
Bro got way too close with that front wheel
Shit. I was so unexpectedly invested in this chase.
How does that tiny dog have so much energy?! Ngl, something similar happened to me once.
What were you running from?
Leash.
The Law.
At the end the cyclist says the dog Isn't hers, so maybe he was really scared of the woman screaming and following him...
I'm damn curious, it was indeed an outrageous experience. Tiny dog with big engine.
In spring 2018 my 18 year old chihuahua ran away from my partner and ran for a half mile total down our gravel driveway (350 m) and then the paved road (350m) before a driver pulled over in front of the dog to cut her off. Little shit can run...wow
Yes, so damn fast
This pissed me off my god
Put this doggo on a treadmill and congratulations... you just solved the energy crisis
What kind of death wish did it have? Fuck that dog honestly
Rat pissed me off so much
he is a car himself
Safe ending. I hate small dogs.
They are hyper aggressive too for no reason. Scrappy-Doo is pretty accurate
Of course it’s a Yorky… they’re the stupidest, most aggressive small dog breed that loves to dart.
That pass by the bus at the start was immensley dangerous. Dude coulda had his guts pushed out his head like a tube of toothpaste
That dog used at least 12 lives by my counting
![gif](giphy|uvfEYoOq7HPAA|downsized)
stupid fucking dog
Run forrest run
Seemed to be doing the speed limit and staying in his lane.
Flowing with traffic too. A few dicey passes. But good coordination with the other cars overall. If I were the instructor, I’d pass him and issue a driver’s license.
What was being said over and over again?

What a stupid piece of shit
That dog is too dumb to live.
I’d honestly just leave the dog after so long running, if it wants to be stupid and run away from its owner and straight into danger then so be it.
Would have said fuck it and get another dog, that one is broken
