I’ll never own another black car unless it’s garaged and not a daily driver. Black is hotter in the Sun, but mostly it’s a royal PITA to keep clean. I’m Team Quartz.

ipv89

Me too, black can look nice but a bitch to keep clean and you can see every single scratch

BackgroundOk7556

We have a garage and I still wouldn’t buy black again.

ImpurestFire

Same. I'd need covered parking at work at minimum.

ReticulatingSplines7

💯

Key_Negotiation5498

Yep 👍. My 2020 3 Hatchback Premium in Soul Red came w/black wheels 🛞. They’re a ROYAL PAIN in the a** to keep clean 🧼! Never again.

K9Rescue1

100% agree

frankaziza1

I have a carbon edition…it always look clean even when it’s filthy

VaporHyperlite2

Bought a black car once. Love the look but never again. You can see all the dirt accumulation and all the scratches, even the small ones. In your case, I vote for Quartz!

Nice_Strategy_9702

Go for the soul red.😬 On a serious note… platinum quartz is the better color.

BobDerBongmeister420

Red!

Allbregra1

Red was the correct answer. I have the 90 my daughter has a 3. My driveway is beautiful

Nice_Strategy_9702

Well I was thinking of getting a silver or a red mazda 2 but when my girl saw the red, she was instantaneously in love with the color. So.. we have a cute, lovely little car. Even my son loves the color. Mazda red is just really special though we know that it chips fast, (will have it protected soon) it just stands out.

Key_Negotiation5498

Yep. SOUL RED CHIPS VERY EASILY. My experience over the last 3 years!

Nice_Strategy_9702

That’s the only prob..

Key_Negotiation5498

Yep. Paint pen doesn’t really work…

Nice_Strategy_9702

Did you have it paint protected?

Key_Negotiation5498

No. Waste of $$$

Key_Negotiation5498

I own a SOUL RED 3 Premium hatchback 🚗 and this paint CHIPS VERY EASILY! Just FYI!

mx5again

Very few people buy a black vehicle twice.

Whoitwouldbe

I bought one twice…….. not a third time though. I’m a slow learner.

oboby

lol me too

TheAlphaCarb0n

My parents are on their 4th. I think it's just an addiction at this point

ADashofDirewolf

I owned a black car when I lived in FL. That was a mistake.

cptpb9

Black car black leather then 3 months later moved to south Texas 😭

ADashofDirewolf

IT BURNS

Carb0nFire

I'm in that camp. Never again.

Twogens

True. Had a 2013 Mustang GT CS that was all black. It was a head turner 5 minutes after the car wash. Nobody cared by the end of the hour with how much pollen got on it which gave it an orange glow lol.

Scared-Youth1851

Quartz

SeattleSquatch

I think Quartz looks better on vehicles where the trim around the wheels is painted instead of black. Go with Quartz.

Sling561

Agreed, quartz! Looks sharp, a little different and none of the headaches of black.

boooopy

Agree as well. We have a customer that comes in with a quartz cx3 with black trim and it’s NICE

rdizz33

I have a black cx5, go with quartz

Far_Example_9150

Sweet. That’s where I’m leaning. But what are your thoughts on black that make you recommend quartz?

rdizz33

It scratches very easily and the scratches are super noticeable. I don’t usually care about how cars look because they get me from a to b and I drive a lot but they just really stick out. I had a black Subaru and it was not as bad as my Mazda, so I don’t know if it’s their paint or what but if I had the choice again I would not get black.

Master-Nectarine-636

Mazda paint is as beautiful as it is easy to scratch. It's a nightmare, especially in black. Chips in the front is a big problem too

JWZRD

Idk about the newer black CX-5s but the 2017 comes with all black interior minus the roof and if that thing is sitting in the sun getting in and touching anything is like grabbing a hot stove 😭

Jellybeeano

Can confirm. I live in the southern US and I want to cry every time.

oboby

I am in the same boat, 23 black cx5. Black paint is hand wash only. A few car washes in and the entire car is swirled. Also, paint chips on hood and front bumper are really noticeable. I had a black protege back in the day and it wasn’t this way.

zyxxiforr

Black gets hotter in the sun, is a pain to clean and any paint chips or swirls are more visible. My previous car was black and while it looked really nice when clean, I'm not getting a black car again in the foreseeable future.

Chromatischism

Why I went to MGM. Love that color.

DarkSkyLion

The quartz looks really nice on this car! I’ve got a black CX50 and love the look of black on black but I’d vote quartz here!

oMcYriL

I have a black car. Like others said it's a PITA to keep clean. Of course if you don't care about your car being clean, go for it.

Reverendpjustice

Go quartz. I wanted and purchased a 24 Preferred in Black. I won’t go so far as to say that I regret it but if I had it to do over again I would make a different choice. If you actually vacillating between the two and all other things are essentially equal, choose Quartz. The Black is stunning when clean. It is harder to maintain than I anticipated. New car syndrome contributes to this self imposed anxiety of course. But as others have pointed out black or dark colors are harder to keep looking great and my car is hot. My eyes gaze longingly at every Soul Red I see gleaming in the sun. For whatever reason I don’t see many Quartz on the road in my area for what that’s worth. My prior 3 cars were all black so I just keep with the theme.

Far_Example_9150

Nice. Curious - some folks say the quartz looks like an “grandpa” color - do you get that same impression?

Reverendpjustice

I do not. Without going into a deep dive I essentially consider it a type of silver. Silver cars are prevalent and classy. These labels that you’re referring to aren’t productive. Quite honestly I would approach it from your perspective what you like and are willing to take care of irrespective of what your perception of outside belief systems are. More than likely other people aren’t thinking about you nearly as much as you think they are. Do what suits you.

exaparsec

Quartz looks like a modern regal color, although I’m team all black (almost) everything, three black cars and will do it again lol, yet I recognize how gorgeous that quartz is. Besides, go with what you like, satisfying people is impossible and never results in content choices.

Far_Example_9150

Yup! I took the plunge and went with quartz!

exaparsec

Congrats!!

igozoom9

Platinum Quartz Metallic! It's an upscale color that looks very classy. It's also one of the easier colors to keep clean. Black is my least favorite color (followed by Dark Blue) because it is impossible to keep it clean. Small dings and scratches are also noticeable as the car gets older. Did you see the Rhodium White Metallic while you were there? They replaced the Snowflake White Pearl with it in 2023 and it looks amazing. You don't see metallic white that often.

Far_Example_9150

I did! But I gave a 4 year old and that one had the very light colored seats

igozoom9

You can get it with Black or Parchment Leather. Dealers seem to stock more with the Parchment, even though I don't think it's very practical. Don't even get me started on the White Leather in some other models. I forgot to mention this earlier, but the Platinum Quartz reminds me of a very popular Lexus color called Atomic Silver. It's really upscale, IMO.

uwec95

I went into purchasing my CX-5 thinking only red or blue. I then saw the Quartz and immediately wanted it. I have no regrets. It looks so sharp, and it stands out as there does not seem to be many of them on the road.

Mdriver127

I think what's best to do here in this sort of situation is to get both. Daily the quartz, take the black out on weekends and special occasions😎

[deleted]

Red

Historical-North-950

Black and White are the most boring colours on any vehicle. Go with something with a bit of spice.

Brave_Place7065

I love my quartz. I've got a couple pictures in my profile if it helps you decide.

Far_Example_9150

Love those

Monochronos

I have a jet black mica CX-30 and the paint is swirled to shit and shows dirt like a mf. I’d go with quartz. If you do go with black, you should probably get used to washing it and using griots ceramic on it. Or even better paint protection film. I love my car but black cars suck ass. I only got into it cuz it was a decent CPO deal and I needed a new car yeaterday

ToonMaster21

I will never have a black vehicle again. It’s *IMPOSSIBLE* to keep clean.

eeveeismycat

Quartz!! I have this car and whenever I see it in another color I’m sooooo glad I chose quartz. It looks more lux and sleek in Quartz

rathead80

Neither Olive Drab

Dumxl

I love platinum. I hate black cars, easy pick for me.

kansasmeadow

Quartz looks dated now but I think it will age really well and become cooler over time

highroller038

Too many black and gray cars on the road. Go quartz!

sophiamw503

Ugh that quartz is a beautiful color 😭

vexphs

Quartz

tkd1953

They're calling that quartz? Cool👍🏻 The silver will not show dings or scratches as much as other colors will. I vote for the quartz, if you're asking. 🙂

Krunk_korean_kid

Platinum quarts metallic 100%

robbnorman

Quartz will look better over time

Twogens

Black if you don’t mind hand washing it every 10 minutes. Quartz if you don’t want to hand wash it every 10 minutes.

Sub_aaru

Black looks real classy. Quartz looks like something my grandpa would drive. Depends on the interior color.

ashygelfling

I wanted black, sales guy had a quartz I went to look and so glad I did. I see black on the road and I’m happy everytime I went with quartz

SizeableFowl

Soul red or gtfo

Woman_from_wish

Same tho.

ilikewolves99

Quartz. Black cars are a pain to keep clean.

HummDrumm1

PQM since Black gets way hotter and shows way more dirt

StrangelyDangerous

You like washing cars?

Accomplished-Bear357

Platinum Quartz is the way to go.

Far_Example_9150

Definitely leaning that way

Swimming-Accident-75

Team Quartz.

mamacitacc

quartz

SusiesaurusWrecks

PQM 100%. I’ve had my PQM Miata for nearly two years now and I still turn around to look back at her every time I park.

CommercialTap4581

Quartz

David_Bellows

Quartz 200%

KrizzyPeezy

Quartz and black out the chrome

lrb72

Quartz

Thisisnotsokrates

Quartz is more special and the car looks great.

zizuu90

Go black

[deleted]

Black shows dirt like a neon sign.

VenAPapa

Quartz baby

Fearless_L

Prefer the quartz

TiddyBeater

Quartz makes the curves pop out, sexy

matasfizz

Quartz for sure

honacc

Quartz for sure

SpicyMRC

Bought a new 1979 Merc Capri in black. Immediate swirls in the paint. Wound up trading in after a year because the car never looked clean. Drove me crazy! I’ve owned white the last three cars, twenty plus years, Honda and three Mazdas, my life has been paint swirl stress free.

Ahemawkmutt

PQM!!!!!

Low-Stomach-8831

Everybody wants a black car until they have one. Swirl marks, road grime, dust... Everything is more visible on a black car. It will stay clean for exactly 10 minutes after you detail it. It also gets too hot. The only good thing about black is that DIY paint pen correction are less noticable. Quartz!

ZbyszekKieliszek

Quartz

TheLumion

I went with quartz, it stands out lol

FamousWolf5483

Black 110%. Quartz won’t age well

StrategicallySavvy

If it’s garage kept and you can clean your car almost weekly, I love black. But realistically quarts looks better between cleanings and gets less hot

jyptianL

I’m team black. Have owned several black cars and my next one will likely be as well. My last car I thought I would change it up and get a different color. Changed my mind at the last minute, no regrets. I don’t get the complaints personally; keeping it clean is pretty easy and I see no difference in heat between my car and any other non black car I drive in. It just looks so much better to me but you do you.

slimcargos

Assuming this is gonna be a daily? It doesnt matter what the color is, pick it over black.

wazamatterwitu

Quarts You won't notice the dust much.

Far-Veterinarian-974

The red one to the left of image one looks better then either black or quartz

Vault_Boy_89

Quartz is the way to go

thisrockismyboone

When clean or in the rain, black looks sick. So the latter for the other 80% of the time

JWZRD

As someone with a black CX-5, the Quartz is more unique and gives a more mature vibe imo. I also imagine it will hide dirt and scratches better. Every time I wash my car I die inside seeing new dents and paint chips.

2muchicescream

Exactly wat too hot and crazy hard to keep clean . This colour is also the most popular for all cars so resale will hold up better. Also black is such a boring colour you get that if you literally just can’t think of anything else and just *settle on black … so boring , the white looks badass. The black also makes the car look cheaper like a rental the white looks classy like a Beamer

Ljw1000

Quartz, no question. Black shows every mark & swirl & looks dirty within moments of cleaning. My daily, not Mazda as they only make small hatches & stupid SUV’s now, is quartz & hardly ever looks dirty apart from brake dust on the wheels.

Winters989

I have a neighbor who recently got a quartz CX-5. It stands out nicely in the sun and I always look at it every time I pass it.

kikomansu

black so you wont see the rust when its start developing.

79watch

*soul red crystal* - i mean quartz!

taxxvader

Quartz

SubstantialGur4601

Black shows every imperfection

Tacokitty27

I went with Quartz because I found that the black hides all the beautiful lines that Mazda puts on their cars. I don't regret it. It hides dirt like a freakin dream. I will say in certain lightings I don't like the color but that's part of owning a Mazda they just have such depth of color that they shift all the time. And that's not to say I don't like the paint color it's more so that I just prefer it better in some lighting.

kvetcha-rdt

Platinum Quartz is beautiful.

NinongKnows

Quartz if your roads get salted in the winter. Black if they don't.

Far_Example_9150

I’m in Alaska so they definitely get salted

NinongKnows

As a midwesterner, I didn't know what those large piles of rocks in the background were.

chiefofwar117

Black

dweebyyyy

I have the quartz. I get a bunch of compliments on the color. It’s so classy.

sauce770

QUARTZ IS HARD

SPFeveryday

The quartz just looks gorgeous in person!

TheWarringTriad

Quartz looks more premium to me.

Firedcylinder

Down with grayscale!

Prudent_Computer7903

Quartz is undoubtedly the better choice. I bought a machine grey metallic Mazda 6 and I regret it, it's hard to keep clean and the even smalls scratches are too noticeable.

rsdj

Quartz is so beautiful on current Mazdas. All my life I've wanted a soul red mica, but after seeing these quartz colors, I can't decide 😢

MazdaRules

Quartz

schoobyshnap

#POLYMETAL

schoobyshnap

Quartz tho…

lesmartin

Black = Visible Scratches. Go lighter.

ShadeTreeMechanic512

Black looks awesome. For the first 30 minutes after it’s washed. Pick any other color.

Southern_Country_787

If there's a blue option go with blue

amillerkelly99

If interior is leather then definitely quartz. I’ve got a black Mazda 2 and it’s a bitch in the heat. Although, opt for soul red if you can. My mum picked up her new 3 in soul red and it is beautiful. Most compliments she’s ever had about a car bc of the colour lmao

No-Entrance5791

Red colour on the left is chefs kiss =)

chlronald

I guess it's just me but I love the satisfaction of newly waxed and detail black car.

Potential_Ad1360

Quartz. Lighter colored vehicles statistically get into less wrecks bc they are more visible to the eye of other drivers

MazdaLoverCX5

Quartz, black car not good in Summer time

kiddlat_kid

Black it’ll run faster but might not work from time to time lol

Pow339

Quartz

Better_Direction_101

Black ...

miklayn

Quartz all day

WorldGoneCrazee

Quartz

Djj62

Have two black cars, nice but a bitch to keep clean. One has black leather seats, never again, freaking oven in the sun. Funny I am looking at Mazdas myself, either the 5 or the 50.

Key_Negotiation5498

Black shows EVERYTHING! 😉

Away_Difficulty_9668

Quartz

MarsupialFrequent685

I say quartz primary for the reason because its less maintenance and any dings or scratches (which everyone will get at some point) is less noticeable. Black on the other hand, easily attracts dust more visible if there are scratch marks, and simply im just too lazy to keep washing it and keeping it shiny. Also dark color attracts heat.....unless u want that in the summer coupled with leather seats...i dont want to be roasted on the inside.

posionsnlotions

Quartz

Key-Jello-9501

Go with silver or golden colour, looks fabulous.

ranger0u812

Quartz. This is the way.

AdvancedRiver8284

I have a black Lexus and it’s the bane of my existence to keep looking good. Pollen season now it’s yellow 💀

swishy4mbg

Both are boring but quartz is at least new.

V10Lada

I love the Quartz so much. Unpopular opinion, but I'd have it over the Soul Red Crystal I have.

nicky_wijaya

Why not both? Quarts for the day and black for the night

Sad_Ratio_3804

Machine grey imo

lilky19

Who cares just pick one and be happy with your purchase

Different-Army9265

Subaru

Human_One_9007

Quartz, black is nice it just the paint shows all imperfections

Mysterious_061612

Let me tell you Black absorbs heat And white does not

frankaziza1

Black

arcamaeus

When nobody wants a black car, I'll keep my black car. Clean.

ValuableDue3195

Quartz Rocks!!!!

Stand_Afraid

Black vehicles are just so difficult to keep clean and not show swirls and scratches, not to mention if you’re in an area like I am in North Carolina, the clear coat been get cooked off the top , roof and trunk! I’ll never have another black vehicle!

PezatronSupreme

Get a Toyota instead

[deleted]

Are they not different trim levels? Either way love my Mazda but the paint they use is not of quality. Plastic scratches away the paint.

Historical-Home-8356

If it ain't soul red, it ain't right.

Ninja_j0

Mazda paint scratches very easily. Black scratches the easiest

Diligent-Lion6571

None !! Silver

New-Professional-746

Always black and get membership at a car wash. Unlimited cash washes. That solves the dirt problem.

WafflesZCat

Red!

Jhwem

Wife and I went with black. It’s garaged and not a daily so it’s easier to upkeep

MustyMaxx

White all the way for me!

keeppresent

White

Emergency-Advice-519

Quartz! Black shows paint swirls after the first wash.

Far_Example_9150

Will it show swirls if there is protective film?

Emergency-Advice-519

No

It_is_you_not_me

Quartz. I still love mine and get so many compliments on it. And the lighter color will be cooler in the summer.

Friday_LittleStar

Quartz

Royal_Masterpiece746

Black!!

karma_is_4_pussies

I own 2 black cars (Mustangs) and I would never recommend black unless you live somewhere that it didn't rain, or if you keep it parked in a garage and don't drive in the rain. It's literally the hardest color to keep clean and to hide imperfections. Hearing how Mazda has very delicate paint, I wouldn't even consider it unless I was wrapping it in PPF and TBH I don't feel like a CX5 is worth the cost of PPF. Even getting ceramic coating will only help so much. As cool as it would have been to have another black car in the driveway I specifically stayed away from black when looking for my CX-5. Quartz was the first color I looked at because it will be the easiest to hide dirt out of all the colors offered. However I felt the color to be a bit "retirement age" and dull. I went with the external blue for a little color but that is still not the best for hiding water spots and dirt but better than black.
