It’s a crankshaft. Clean it with a parts cleaner, look for numbers. Resale value is nothing unless you can find what engine it is for. Or you can weld it to other parts for cool decorations.
My old neighbor had a truck flywheel with a big ass dampener on the top. He used it as a flower pot. The connecting rods were attached, but no pistons, on the ends he had someone weld on larger rings so that he could put smaller flower pots on it. He kept the crank side lubricated enough that the flowers could spin freely on the crank.
You could always tell if it had been windy during the day because the flower pots would all be lined up opposite the direction of the wind.
No, don't clean it with anything if you want to use it as a crank. It will remove any protective oil. Then it will rust. If anything I would add a coat of oil.
Edited
Even if you find the engine it fits, resale is still about 10 cents/lb which is what they will pay you for it at the scrap yard. Cranks in pristine shape rarely get over a few hundred bucks.
The breeder actually asked if I wanted a fully trained 1 year old. Price tag was $35,000. They out that much work into training him- these guys are pretty nuts.
I lived in South Dakota and hunted ducks and gesse for 5 years. Even wanting a working dog, the cheapskate in me could never let me pay more than a few hundred for a pup and train it myself. I'm a dog lover, but I still believe in rescue adoption over puppy farming.
Crank it's what holds and directs the pistons when fuel combustion sends them flying and makes them push cylinders on their right timings.
Probably $40-$80 but look up the numbers on it, check box numbers and identify the engine it goes in and you may be able to double it. Look at online used sold for prices and go with the lowest value and that's it's value.
Looks like it is from a small block chevy. As many have said look for casting numbers, and maybe compare online. If it is a chevy look at what is known as the parting line. It runs all the way down the crank, basically the middle. If it is a small crisp line the crank was cast, if it is about a half an inch wide it is a forged crank and that is probably worth some money depending on what engine size it is for. Most likely it not out of a vette either which I laugh at because I worked at GM parts many years in my youth and college days and vette engine parts are no different than caprice chevelle nova camaro etc. Maybe take it to a machine shop and see if they want it for a few bucks. Forged could be worth 100 bucks or more, else yeah cast could be a flower pot 🤣 as far as I can tell if that is a v8 crank it may be older as the slot by the front gear is long. This was typical of a 283 but could be a 327. This may be worth something only to someone who is restoring a vehicle with as close to number's matching as possible. The weld on the counterweight tells me that someone either tried to balance this or it was damaged and someone tried to fix. Could be why it is not in an engine today.
The dog is priceless! /j
The crank could be 0 could be a few hundred depending on how badly someone needs that specific crank for a specific engine. You'll need more info on it before it can be worth anything.
Haha dog not included. Although every once in a while he tests my patience.
Thanks I’ll look into what kind it might be. Maybe there’s a way I can make something out of it
Check box for company name, inv. #. Or carry it to an automotive machine shop. They might be willing to help. Ditto to Amer. car shop. The guys might recognise it.
Measure the stroke and journal sizes , search the casting # 's .to properly identify it ..you may have a rareish little piecethere .do not wash it down , if anything spray it down with oil to stop any chance of corrosion /rust . Then if you dont want it list it for sale.
The part number on the box comes back to a mercruiser inboard motor. Someone identified it as a small block Chevy crank which checks out for the mercruiser. My guess is it’s from a boat with a sbc inboard motor.
Keep your hands off of the machined(smooth) parts. Spray it liberally with wd40 after you’re done. That’s a gm crank shaft for a v8. It’s been balanced looking at the counter weight holes. There will be a casting number on the back counterweight that will tell you what it’s for. If that’s missing measure the journal sizes. You’ll figure it out quickly.
That is a golden retriever, and sure you can get $100 if it is like new. For the crank, you will need to identify it more. It is definitely used, so it was probably replaced or an ebay part out from some engine. From the picture, it looks like 2 cylinder, but not a motorcycle 2 cylinder. It could be a Harley crank if it is motorcycle, but I would guess some kind of riding lawn mower. It does have teeth on one side for an overhead cam though.
First off. Looks like you received a package with a crankshaft in it that you know nothing about. Maybe try to find the person that was supposed to go to they waiting for it trust me. Just saying
Unless it’s in really good condition, you know what engine it came out of, and you’re able to find someone who needs it, you might be better off turning it into a lamp or something like that and selling it that way.
Depends— if it was mis shipped— it could be a person’s unobtainium crankshaft from a 302 Studabaker- and there would be for ever Karma for helping it get back to the proper owner.— sorry missed the explanation! So it is an old ford Crankshaft- does he have a motor torn apart somewhere? You could have an old car guy come help you sort thru the stuff— some of the old stuff can be valuable to the right person.
Shoot, there’s a kid on youtube/facebook I see that’s rebuilding an old ranchero from/with his dad, maybe see if he’d want it! I’m sure a spare crankshaft wouldn’t hurt!
Crank shaft for an engine. More info [at this wiki page](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crankshaft)
As for value. It depends what engine it’s for and what condition it’s in.
Golden Retriever,
Depends if you have proper paper work like AKC. If you got all the paper work you can sell it for more. If no paper work, you won’t be able to sell it as much.

looks like a cute Golden Retriever to me... if he/she's got a good temperment and is well trained you could probably get a few grand for em...
Oh, you meant the engine part? without details of the engine it's for it's scrap... if he had a project car/truck he was working on then this might be the answer, it's for that engine....
Find they guy on your street that hotrods, give it to him and he will burn out in front of your house for the remainder of your residency. Or better, find a kid who interested and sell it to him dirtcheap.
Carbon infused alloy centrifuge. It rotates capped columns of steel into a detonation chamber. Highly dangerous component of an even more complex, dangerous block of electricity, gases, and fire. Worth about 50-100$ if it’s in good shape.

It’s a crankshaft. Clean it with a parts cleaner, look for numbers. Resale value is nothing unless you can find what engine it is for. Or you can weld it to other parts for cool decorations.
Guy that lives by my house used a large crankshaft for his mailbox post. I'm pretty jelly ngl
What's an ass dampener?
A tunnel plug.
It’s the part that sits just above the ass tray.
This is comment of the year. I guffawed when I read this.
That's awesome!
We need a pic of that please 🙏
Sorry, it has been almost 10 years since I moved from the house. He moved a few years afterwards.
Thanks
We demand side quest
Am I old? What does jelly mean lmao
Oh haha jealous
Ohh lmao I was reading it as an adjective describing the mail box. Like “Pretty dope ngl”
Yes, you are old. Welcome to the club.
You are gonna have to speak up man, what did you say?
Yes, you're old. So am I.
Large cranks work well as mailbox stands.
Or a badass lamp post.
same with a guy near where my friend lives, i see it every time i go to his house and i want one just like it
There’s one guy in South Venice Florida that a very long one (looks to be from a long inline diesel) as a mailbox post - this the same one?
This is very common. I’ve seen lots just in Iowa alone.
Nope! Southeast Louisiana lol
No, don't clean it with anything if you want to use it as a crank. It will remove any protective oil. Then it will rust. If anything I would add a coat of oil. Edited
Always leave the protective rust on your cranks
Lol fixed
Yeah, this looks perfectly clean already.
*instructions unclear, builds a wind chime*
This is the heart of the engine really.
Even if you find the engine it fits, resale is still about 10 cents/lb which is what they will pay you for it at the scrap yard. Cranks in pristine shape rarely get over a few hundred bucks.
If u clean it with parts cleaner spray it with some wd 40 or it will rust
I’m gonna guess someone who doesn’t know what a crankshaft looks like can’t weld
Attach a light bulb to it, weld it to a base. Congrats, now you have a lamp.
I'll give him 50 bucks for the dog, though.
I like the second option
Idk, not many people want to buy a fully grown Dog. If you find the right person, and its trained well, maybe 100 bucks?
Best I can do is $40, but I have a friend who knows a lot more about dogs than I do. I could give him a call...
You heard what the man said, and I’ve got to make a profit. How does 45 sound?
confused upvote edit: oh I get it, there's a dog in the pic :(
Bruh
I wish I could say I was a smart man, but I'm not
It’s awesome you know your limits!
You could, theoretically, say you were a smart man but you’re not anymore
lmao I was also very confused. thought it was some type of analogy to begin with
Hahaha I thought the dog was him pointing to it with gloves on
It’s a retriever and would be 100 well spent dollars!
The breeder actually asked if I wanted a fully trained 1 year old. Price tag was $35,000. They out that much work into training him- these guys are pretty nuts.

Looks priceless to me
It's a crankshaft. My local pick a part junkyard would sell it used for $40. It could be worth more, but you would have to find out what it's from.
Dog be like wtf is that can I eat it
"looks like a bone, is it mine??!" 😭
It's a crank, they like hand polish. Sometimes top off the head. If you have any numbers off of it, it may be easier to identify.
Crank it's what holds and directs the pistons when fuel combustion sends them flying and makes them push cylinders on their right timings. Probably $40-$80 but look up the numbers on it, check box numbers and identify the engine it goes in and you may be able to double it. Oh, bout tree fiddy.
God damn loch ness monster I ain’t givin you no tree fiddy.
Searched before I typed it. I knew it would be in here somewhere.
The dog is priceless! /j The crank could be 0 could be a few hundred depending on how badly someone needs that specific crank for a specific engine. You'll need more info on it before it can be worth anything.

Crankshaft, won’t know until you know what it’s for
Crankshaft, worth nothing unless you know what engine it’s for, and even then could still be nothing.
If you don't know what it's for, nothing.
Don't listen to these dumbass fuckin idiots on here. For the love of God half of these people couldn't find the crankshaft on an engine.
It’s in the crank case, next to all the meth!
Check box for company name, inv. #. Or carry it to an automotive machine shop. They might be willing to help. Ditto to Amer. car shop. The guys might recognise it.
That is what is called a cardboard box. It isn't worth much, especially in that condition.
Show any labels on and in the box. Might help ID it
Golden retriever... priceless No sale...lol
It's a dog, and it looks like a retriever potential beagle mix
Purebred golden. But close!
okay so ppl can post this shit but my post needing actual help gets denied twice? cool
Measure the stroke and journal sizes , search the casting # 's .to properly identify it ..you may have a rareish little piecethere .do not wash it down , if anything spray it down with oil to stop any chance of corrosion /rust . Then if you dont want it list it for sale.
Check to see if some of the shiny parts of it are coated using a razorblade the blade will slide off if it's coated.
The part number on the box comes back to a mercruiser inboard motor. Someone identified it as a small block Chevy crank which checks out for the mercruiser. My guess is it’s from a boat with a sbc inboard motor.
Cranshaft: 30$ or something Doggy: priceless

That is a dog. Not much resale vaule. You can get them cheap at shelters.
Ive seen that referred to as an attitude adjuster
That is a golden retriever, and sure you can get $100 if it is like new. For the crank, you will need to identify it more. If it was yours you would know the answer. It's only got value to who it belongs
If it happens to be a 408 stroker crank I’ll give you $150
Just crank it
It’s a crankshaft. And if you don’t know the application? It work s s rap value. Pretty much nothing.
I like to crank my shaft too, OP
From the photo a damaged crankshaft for a motor. So worth only scrap
Looks like a golden retriever. You want to hold on to those. They’re a keeper.
The dog? Easy $500 if you’re trying to offload her. Looks adorable.
Did your dad have a flathead 4 engine in anything? I think I know what it's for and would be interested in it.
I love the dog 🐶 Man’s best friend checking it out to make sure it’s not food
That’s right!! You never know
Looks like one of those odd timekey things from Tenet
Heavy paperweight.
Flux capacitor... I know a guy
from 0$ to 500$ it depend on the part and how desperate the guy that want it... want it.
This reminds me that I have an old cam in my garage attic that I need to throw away.
Looks like a crank
Looks like an anchor for a small boat
You shouldn’t sell the dog
First off. Looks like you received a package with a crankshaft in it that you know nothing about. Maybe try to find the person that was supposed to go to they waiting for it trust me. Just saying
[удалено]
It’s a dog and I’ll give you $20 for it.
100$.. 200$ if hes a good boy
Unless it’s in really good condition, you know what engine it came out of, and you’re able to find someone who needs it, you might be better off turning it into a lamp or something like that and selling it that way.
That, sir, is called a “Cardboard Box”. At least, it was at one time. Not worth anything in that condition
I’m gonna guess a crank out of a small block Chevy based on the part that pulls up with your other picture
Run your thumbnail across the shiny bits, if it doesn't catch on any grooves it's probably good
Looks like a SBC crank. Based on the welding to the counterweight, it looks like it was balanced for aftermarket pistons/rods
Looks like it still has the wax corrosion block covering the journals. Must be a fresh from machine shop.
golden retriever ? about 5k
Reminds me of the device in that movie Tenant…anyone??
Look for part number it’s been balanced before. It’s possible it’s for a stroked 350 maybe a 400 crank turned down
That's a 6 cylinder crankshaft. But to know it's value you'd need to know what engine it's for specifically
About tree fiddy
Turn it into a lamp or something and sell it at a swap meet.
Stolen
It's a crankshaft. Depends on what engine it's for
Shoot, there’s a kid on youtube/facebook I see that’s rebuilding an old ranchero from/with his dad, maybe see if he’d want it! I’m sure a spare crankshaft wouldn’t hurt!

Nice doggo
Crank shaft for an engine. More info [at this wiki page](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crankshaft) As for value. It depends what engine it’s for and what condition it’s in.
Not a mechanic so I’m kinda surprised I guessed this correctly before looking at the comments 😭.
That is a dog, and you should not sell it. Looks like a very good boy/girl.
Looks like your oil dipstick there
3 cylinder crankshaft? A GEO crankshaft?
Idk the box looks a little torn on one side..might just want to throw it out.
Look for numbers and ask r/enginebuilding
Golden Retriever, Depends if you have proper paper work like AKC. If you got all the paper work you can sell it for more. If no paper work, you won’t be able to sell it as much.
You opening someone else’s mail?
How about $100 for the dog that digs cranks?
Crankshaft it sells differently depending on the dealer
(shrugs) Stopped for the dog; stayed for the hand. 😉
Golden Retriever, $500
Dog wishes it was made out of rawhide instead of metal
is it me or that weld spot for balancing the crank shaft ?
That’s a used golden retriever. Not worth much even if in good condition….
That’s a dog. I’ll give you $10
That there is a dinglehopper.
That’s a crankshaft…It goes into the middle of the engine and is responsible for moving the pistons up and down as the engine runs.
Ask the dog
I wonder how many swords a blacksmith could turn that into.
Crankshaft, likely for a Chevrolet Google number in the part. Looks like it has been balanced and isn't scored so might be a good part. Possibly take to a automotive machine shop to confirm application and condition. Do your homework first on what it is, knowledge is king.
Merry Christmas to me
A good dog like that could fetch a good price I'd say.
Isn’t that a crank shaft?
Hmm. 4 cylinder something or other crank, possibly in original box with labels? I’d start there and look for a part number.
It’s a crankshaft to a 4 cylinder car you didn’t fine Noah’s ark sorry 🤣
I have seen them used for lamp bases.
A dog
It's a doohickey, it should connect right into the lederhosen.
Depends if he’s the goodest boy or not. Goodest boy == higher value.
its value is priceless, you cant put a price on it
DOGGIE
Those make for great dildos
From a small block Chevy, but that's about all I can tell you. Look for part marks.
how much for the dog?
Golden Retriever. Not sure of resale. I’d keep it.
The dog or the crankshaft, the dog holda lot more value
Looks like junk, I see the bearing wear on the mains. Sure it can be machined, it could also probably be replaced for under $200 and not take a month waiting at the shop.
2-cylinder crankshaft, possibly from a snowmobile or import motorcycle.
Without knowing what it is from worthless, if it was a two stroke worthless. Everything sold today and worth spending money on would be a 4 stroke.
Looks like maybe small engine crankshaft. 2 cylinder, could be for nearly anything.
did this guy just steal someones package
Looks like a big block chevy crank, 396/427
That's definitely an old 4L60E valve body
Why do you have it and not know what it is?
Go put it back on the porch you stole it from
Looks like the one he probably pulled out just didn’t have the heart to get rid of it like most of us!
Looks like a golden retriever.. if it's trained well you could probably get a hundred for it...
It's a used crankshaft.. unless it is for a rare engine it's not worth much...
Sir that's a dog
Dog wants to know if it's chewable.
It's a crankshaft, primarily for hog crankin
It's a dog. Don't sell.
That is a flux capacitor used for time travel. It's no good without plutonium though. Find the box labeled plutonium and you can sell it for lots of money. Good luck!
Looks like a Golden Retriever, he/she can stay with me. You start the negotiation.
I would say that is a golden retriever. good ones go for a lot of money.
Crank, paper weight
It’s a golden retriever dog and they’re priceless
like 10 bucks
I think you have all the pieces of the algorithm...
Buick Skylark Convertible
looks like a cute Golden Retriever to me... if he/she's got a good temperment and is well trained you could probably get a few grand for em... Oh, you meant the engine part? without details of the engine it's for it's scrap... if he had a project car/truck he was working on then this might be the answer, it's for that engine....
Crankshaft for a V2 engine
You’re a failure to your dad if you don’t know what this is.. I bet he despised spending time with you
About $0.10 a pound…
That's half a mailbox post
Find they guy on your street that hotrods, give it to him and he will burn out in front of your house for the remainder of your residency. Or better, find a kid who interested and sell it to him dirtcheap.
I'd make a lamp out of it
Transmission for a smart car
That’s a golden retriever and is a good boy/girl. 1000 resell value but should never part with the baby
Crank that shaft, but it looks small, maybe a 4 cylinder or a bike.
It’s an air filter
Carbon infused alloy centrifuge. It rotates capped columns of steel into a detonation chamber. Highly dangerous component of an even more complex, dangerous block of electricity, gases, and fire. Worth about 50-100$ if it’s in good shape.
Crankshaft
