What other options are out there that are shaped like the Pentel Kerry or similar to it? Is the Pentel Kerry unique in this regard?

CilantroEnjoyer

**Red colored leads**: Pentel Ain Polysheath vs Uni Nano Dia. Those are the 2 available options in the online store I'm about to purchase it. I've had bad experience with colored lead before, as I find it too weak on the paper. Which of the ones above will do a better performance? Mainly for witting side notes on documents. Thank you.

Suggestions for 1.1 mm mech pencil Hi everyone, I bought some really awesome 1.1 mm 5B lead over the weekend. But besides Retro 1951, am having trouble finding a decent mechanical pencil. I bought a chap Yasutomo artist pencil as a placeholder. Any suggestions?

How's the Kurutoga Advance Upgrade in 2024? I'm using for university math, no experience with pencils, budget of up to $30 USD.

Dear friends, I recently got a Pentel Kerry in 0.7 which I dearly love, and I wanted to know what brand lead you guys use when you go for 0.7 size? I've tried Faber-Castell 0.7 B Super-Polymer and found it to be ok and I've tried the Pentel 0.7 lead that came with the Pentel Kerry that I am enjoying a lot. My intention is notetaking. What do you guys prefer and why?

What are my options for a .3 pencil that would do well being carried around in a side carhartt pocket all day doing woodworking?

Queasy-Bison-4737

Which type of side Carhartt pocket? Like the pockets on their pants for phones further down the leg or in the shirt? Field Engineer for a General Contractor here with lots of suggestions depending on which

On the leg of the pants further down. Also if you have .3 and .5 suggestion I would welcome both. Thanks

Kaweco special 2mm or 0.5mm? Currently i only have 0.5 mm pencils, but I want to get into lead holders. I have to choose in the next week, but I will get another lead holder, the rotring rapid pro, after that deadline. Also, 2.0 mm kaweco special is only $35, whereas 0.5 is $55. I am familiar with 0.5 but want to get into lead holders, but will get one sooner or later.

\[I forgot about Rule one of the sub, so my post was deleted. Sorry. I'll post here instead\] I need help choosing a pencil for my first upgrade to a "decent" mechanical pencil. Up until this point, I had been using just a Faber Castell Econ 0.5 mm in purple as my "main" pencil (been using it since 2010). I'm a fine arts college student, so I'm looking to pick a good budget 0.5 mm mechanical pencil that doesn't exceed 9 USD in price (my family is not well off) but can also feel nice to draw with and lasts for years. As I'm going to continue using it even after entering the workforce, it should also be suitable in a professional setting. After scouring this subreddit, I had narrowed my candidates down to two choices: * Pilot S3 * Pentel GraphGear 500 PG525 For further context, I also have with me a Muji Balanced Mechanical pencil in white that someone gifted to me, but I don't like the lead hardness indicator because I use leads that exceed 2B in darkness (3B above) and it bothers me that what is on the lead hardness indicator doesn't match what I'm actually drawing with. If I were to get a new mechanical pencil, it shouldn't have a lead hardness indicator. It will mainly be used for drawings and sketches of the artistic kind and not the technical kind. I'm also open to other suggestions apart from the two candidates mentioned above. Thank you!

Pilot S3 is a great pencil for its budget price.

Then skip the Graphgear 500 because it is essentially the same as the MUJI. Unless you like the balance and feel, then find the export version with a plain metal button.

I want to get into lead holders, to recreate the feel of a regular pencil. Three lead grades, same price, 2.0mm lead, which should I get? HB, 2B, 4B? I know that 4b is the softest and so and so, and I have used all of them, but what should I get? Im thinking 4b lead since I use it in many pencils, but I'm afraid it wont erase very well. 2b lead is also good since its dark but also doesn't erase well. HB lead is hard and not very dark but erases well. I have the Sakura Sumo Grip Electric Eraser (EE3000), so will 4b work well? Also HB lead is the most common lead here so... I only use pencils for writing.

Milf-Whisperer

I picked up a staedler mars 780c about a week ago and I’m using 2b in it right now. It gives a pretty dark and seems to last awhile before you have to sharpen. The 4b gives a really dark line but it burns pretty fast. Not a deal breaker though. A lot of the lead holders come with a complimentary lead. It’s usually an HB so you can try that out to see if you like it. Also the 4b erases well. I’m using a staedler eraser, regular plastic one, and I can get the pencil line entirely off rhodia paper

dspencils

Try "F" lead softer than H/HB but not quite in the B range...you can get it dark and it seems to erase OK...I use a plug-in ellectric eraser..lot o' torque

PrestonKo1004

F grade lead is not softer than HB, and it is not one of my options. https://preview.redd.it/quk6jv6so0mc1.png?width=645&format=png&auto=webp&s=64da6d5096c61286a5b23bcfd7b2b03a88e1529f

OOOPS..stand corrected...but I still like it

ProfessionSad2166

choose one, Kaweco Special Brass vs YStudio Classic? what's the reason?

drifand

Between the two, I just like classic hexagonal profiles better.

ProfessionSad2166

and I loves the heavier more okay, I got it.. thanks a lot, doc! have a great day!

keterpele

if i were interested in those two, i would pick ystudio because i just saw "Last Chance" label on it at jetpens. 99% of time it means "discontinued".

ProfessionSad2166

ah ya.. the price would be higher later.. thanks a lot for your aware, sir!
