Not really it's very unlikely to hear someone saying putin to someone out loud, but it's like ripping ass, if it happens at least one in a room will giggle
Putin is not exactly an insult, it's a deformation of puto o puta, those are the insult, Putin is like adding a diminutive to make it funny and not an insult
You are right french use those with this meaning most of the time but Putain has the whore meaning too "une putain" still means a whore but I feel its a way to use this word mostly done by people 40 and older, younger people will use more pute for whore
In Spanish "Puto" means "f@gg*t", and "Putin" can be seen as a diminutive.
So in Spanish "Putin" can be seen as "little f@g"
There was indeed an ad Argentina made for the 2018 Russia World Cup where they showed imaged of men hugging each other in football games, while talking subtly about how Putin doesn't like homosexuals, and in the end the whole screen went black and the word "PUTIN" appeared in big white letters.
No. Definitively not.
The reason is that in Spanish speaking countries, homosexuality, while it was a taboo and people make jokes about "p@@os" it was not really THAT bad. It was considered an antisocial behaviour at most, but not a crime. So the word defining it carries less weight.
In British speaking countries it was a crime. See Alan Turing, as an example. After he created the machine that broke the German Enigma code, he was chemically castrated for being homosexual and pushed into suicide. So the slur referring to it, carries that much more weight.
In chihuahua its "bitch" or "whore" joto means "f@g" etc its pretty much the same in puerto rico y mexico but central and south america seems to take the word in other directions.
No, no, traps was already a thing, but since "trampa" doesn't roll off the tongue that well, we decided to use TRAPito, because trapito is a diminutive of rag, so it sounded funnier
Yes, basically they sound the same, but you have to know when to use K, Q and C
Because there are words that sound the same with those letters, but are written differently
Aunque podemos hablar un poco en español neutral si te interesa, solo digo, ya que estas aprendiendo el idioma xd
Y en alguna traducción de Los viajes de Gulliver en español se la mencionaba como Lupata (libro de los '60-'70, así que posiblemente haya sido por la censura en Argentina y España).
Edit: el autocorrector cambio Lupata por Lupita.
The joke isn't exactly gay the joke that they unintendedly called Radagon a combo of gay and a pussy but in a kinder way since Marica isn't as hateful as Spanish homophobic words like Maricón
It also draws from the fact that Radagon actually is ...
In spanish many curse words depends of the intention of the person saying it. Marica and maricon are almost identical, but it depends on how and who is saying it.
I live in a pretty socially conservative city in Mexico and Maricon is used as an insult towards people you know are straight but want to call them gay. Marica is more friendly term to call your friends gay or something. Whenever someone actually talks about a gay person they get weird about it for some reason and say stuff like "He walks on the other sidewalk" or " He is the other kind ". I don't think I've ever seen anyone use marica, puto o maricon for an actual gay men here.
They changed Marika's name in spanish to Merida to prevent this kind of thing, but it's still funny that one of the greatest and most enigmatic reveals within the game's world can be perfectly read as "Radagon is a f@ggot"
The sentiment behind the word is lost in translation, it's not "just" gay. It's more like a more insulting gay? It's hard because here in the city where I live we use "marica" to salute people as the word "dude". Spanish is a hard language when it comes to curse words
The word "Marica" can and is mostly used in a despective way to refer to homosexual individuals or men that like to behave or dress in "femenine" ways, the word is mostly used against men. A sexual slur.
In other words, the F word.
Pretty sure that guy is a bot, I’ve seen a bunch of new accounts with generic usernames whose comments all start with “well,” “looks like,” or some variation of that. They also never reply to other comments.

You'll laugh when you find out what "Putin" means in Spanish.
Huh, I'm interested. Heard that his surname was a slur in French, so they had to change the translation.
his surname went from Putin (Whore) to Poutine (Food)
Nope, in spanish putin can mean homosexual
Gay Putin confirmed
Not really it's very unlikely to hear someone saying putin to someone out loud, but it's like ripping ass, if it happens at least one in a room will giggle
Putin is not exactly an insult, it's a deformation of puto o puta, those are the insult, Putin is like adding a diminutive to make it funny and not an insult
Mí lil putin
My little pony
We knew putin was gay since he put out that video of him riding a bear
Just because of the people I know. i understand this term. This joke has a level of depth that I hope many will understand. This guys comment is gold.
Man, if only reddit didn't remove awards! I think that I would have at least 1 free award on *a* comment by now
They’re talking about the French version
Putin putón I'm going to kill myself with twenty shots in my back
Putin: puto pequeño (small gay)
Putinto
Putain is more "Fuck", and Whore is "Pute" or "Pétasse"
You are right french use those with this meaning most of the time but Putain has the whore meaning too "une putain" still means a whore but I feel its a way to use this word mostly done by people 40 and older, younger people will use more pute for whore
Pute in Norwegian is pillow
"Putain" is literally "whore" in french, even if it is today used as a general use swear word.
In Spanish "Puto" means "f@gg*t", and "Putin" can be seen as a diminutive. So in Spanish "Putin" can be seen as "little f@g" There was indeed an ad Argentina made for the 2018 Russia World Cup where they showed imaged of men hugging each other in football games, while talking subtly about how Putin doesn't like homosexuals, and in the end the whole screen went black and the word "PUTIN" appeared in big white letters.
That one old dwarf is definitely putin.
Yes but also no, since Puto doesnt carry an eight of the weight F@g has.
Yah, pretty much.
Yeah, "Putin" in Spanish and French are cognates.
Yep, Putain means whore. But Putin would be read the same way. For us, it's spelled Poutine, like the food.
What's does it mean? As far as I can see there is no Spanish word with this spelling (putin)
Diminutive for puto (f@g) so “little f@g”
That’s odd, in my region of Mexico, puto means whore
Literally, yes. But no one really uses it like that. Can you think of anyone who would be insulted by “man whore”?
In chihuahua its "bitch" or "whore" joto means "f@g" etc its pretty much the same in puerto rico y mexico but central and south america seems to take the word in other directions.
in my language it means boots
Very far fetch, Puta is whore, Puto is man whore or gay, Putin is ??? but sounds similar.
Means 👢 in Persian XD
It means Italy, huh? Funny
Add an a in somewhere and you get a French curse word

Can someone explain please ?
In Latin America and Spain, men who look gay or effeminate are called "marica" or "maricon" do you understan me? 😉
You telling me the game just called Ragadon a femboy or something?
Not necessarily, those are called "Trapitos" in Latin America.
Ah that makes a lot more sense.
say im in a submarine and we run out of torpidos, should i lunch the femboys instead?
You're confusing trapitos with torpedos, common mistake, just today I blew up my kitchen by accident trying to get a fly with a torpedo
I hate it when that happens
i dont know how eating em would fix the problem, but sure, eat your heart (and them) out
XD i didnt notice i wrote lunch and not launch, my bad
“Fire the trapitos”
So "traps" are called Trapitos? Damn, they were way ahead of the curve.
No, no, traps was already a thing, but since "trampa" doesn't roll off the tongue that well, we decided to use TRAPito, because trapito is a diminutive of rag, so it sounded funnier
is also fun because "pitos" also mean dick in some parts, so it is "trapitos", a dick trap XD
It’s probably best translated as “fairy”, but in the derogatory gay insult, not like Tinkerbell.
Then they were accurate.
More like a f##ggot, or a sissy
"Radagon is looking kinda gay" did I get that right?
yeeees xd
I MEAN did you see the guy? He DO he lookin kinda gay
so it would be basically "Radagon is gay" right? lol
Nah it's more like "sissy" I guess
Fits surprisingly well
I mean he was railed by godfrey
F*gg*t can also be a good way to describe it
No, it literally means f@ggot
Como referencia, esta joyita de video, lmao: https://youtu.be/3FMgW8SdTLc?feature=shared
![gif](giphy|3osxYk9qClrQVXVfiw|downsized)
Ohhhh, I’ve heard maricon before but not marica. It took me a while to get the joke lmao
Not exactly, it's pretty much the same as in he F word for homosexuals, the use of the word is despective, in most cases it's considered a slur.
Does it in Spanish Marika and marica would sound alike?( I'm learning the language sorry)
They sound the same Edit: "the"
In Spanish the c sounds as k before a, o and u; but as s before e and i, so in this case they sound the same.
So does in Spanish Marika and marica would sounded alike? (I'm learning the language sorry)
Yes, basically they sound the same, but you have to know when to use K, Q and C Because there are words that sound the same with those letters, but are written differently Aunque podemos hablar un poco en español neutral si te interesa, solo digo, ya que estas aprendiendo el idioma xd
Damn, so latinoamericans are literally from a-gay continent?
mmm no really, just Argentina xd [https://tmpsee.com/v/UYIeviDkgf](https://tmpsee.com/v/UYIeviDkgf)
Maricón
Castillo de Laputa
El escritor original sabía lo que significaba
Y en alguna traducción de Los viajes de Gulliver en español se la mencionaba como Lupata (libro de los '60-'70, así que posiblemente haya sido por la censura en Argentina y España). Edit: el autocorrector cambio Lupata por Lupita.
Nunca olvidaré cuando mi papá vio Laputa la primera ves
Creo que tú papá ya la había visto antes de que tú nacieras.
Yo también quisiera ver a Laputa.
For all you english speakers, the closest traduction whould be "Radagon is gay" but with "gay" beeing a funny word
how old is everyone on this sub there’s no way this has 1.5k upvotes and the joke is literally “gay” 😭😭😭
The joke isn't exactly gay the joke that they unintendedly called Radagon a combo of gay and a pussy but in a kinder way since Marica isn't as hateful as Spanish homophobic words like Maricón It also draws from the fact that Radagon actually is ...

*confused English noises*
Fun fact: "Marika" (Μαρίκα) is actually a (bit old fashioned) girls' name in Greece! 🇬🇷
At least that is spelled the same.
What does it say in Spanish
Read as it is it's "Radagon is a f@ggot"
Laugh a little too hard for someone wanting that green card 😂
Explain the joke tarnished
Marica is a derogatory word for a gay man. A slur. So basically says “Radagon is effeminate” but way way worse…
The word "Marica" can and is mostly used in a despective way to refer to homosexual individuals or men that like to behave or dress in "femenine" ways, the word is mostly used against men. A sexual slur. In other words, the F word.
That's why they changed it to "Marida"
Jajajajajaja
