> maybe he's packing multiple turbos
It's not about what he's packing, but rather what he's *not* packing, which in this case, is money to fix the blown air suspension.
This car doesn't have turbos. It's not possible that it's "packing more weight than it can handle", as OP is suggesting. This really doesn't look like it's been made for drag racing either where it would make a little bit of sense to have the front slammed down so much.
Air doesn't "get sent to the back" when the fronts sag either, as you're suggesting. One end of the car doesn't just randomly get higher when the other end drops down.
The front suspension has failed. Plain and simple.
You all do not understand how the system works. Unlike the W211 system, the W220 chassis has a valve block with solenoids for each separate strut. It is located just above the pump on the fight front corner. When that valve block fails the solenoids do not seal correctly so what happens is that the air can not be contained in each strut. As the engine is the heaviest thing in the vehicle, it pushes down on the front struts, this forces the air out of those. Sense the system is a closed system when the vent valve in the pump is not open, this causes the air to be pushed into the rear struts. Causing the vehicle to sit like it is. I have fixed this issue on a couple of cars. It is not hard to understand. I wasn’t talking about 70’s redneck drag racing set ups or turbos being installed
Ok I have a W220 with Airmatic. My car would lower in the front and raise in the back overnight before I got a new valve block. I’ve also busted struts a couple times and even if there no pressure in the strut the other struts will stay pumped up as you drive or will pump up on start up. Yes you’ll get Airmatic warnings but it’ll still try to get to ride height. Heck when I bought my car the driver side front strut had a massive leak (you could hear the air escaping loudly on rebound strokes) and I drove it home to Houston from San Antonio and the suspension stayed pumped up. Plus like I said you can’t get ABC without an AMG package unless it’s an S600
There is also a company that will sell you coil overs to replace the airmatic ones, or same with the ABC, it comes with a P/S pump, reservoir and lines to get rid of it
I am wondering if this was posted as a joke and people didn’t want to hear facts, not sure. There seems to be a lot of angry people on this page that don’t like hearing the truth
As I have replied to others and your comments prove, people don’t read other comments people post after they post a comment , so replied to inform others of the issue

Maybe if the rear window blind wasn't a $1000 job...the rest of the car wouldn't be so expensive to fix? Idk. I got a Merc and it's been nothing but issues.
Yeah I'm pretty sure the PCM just took a shit today, engine and transmission had power, every other electronic was dead until I cleared the code. P0600. I feel like I basically just got the red ring of death of a car.
Oh man. I genuinely feel so bad when I hear someone run into problems with a Benz. I bought some great cars when I was a lot younger, but I inherited a multitude of problems.
The thing with buying second-hand Benz is you want one or two previous owners at most, and a full service history. Unfortunately, without that you just don't know and you can become a walking cash machine trying to get them right.
I truly hope you find a fix that gets her back on track.
Honestly about to just scrap the bitch or something and get a Honda or something actually reliable. I didn't know anything about Mercedes when I got this thing.
Dude, find a good indie in your neighborhood. 1000$ for the rear window sounds outrageous especially that the whole thing costs peanuts second hand. I understand you want to buy a a new mechanism but the glass window can totally be second hand.
Step 1: buy a w220
Step 2: remove Airmatic and install regular springs
Step 3: everyone everywhere will comment that this was a dumb decision and very stupid and you ruined the car.
Step 4: have a problem free suspension, and save thousands of dollars in the long run.
That is retarted as an airmatic or abc version car comes with no sway bar so adding coil overs doesnt fix sht as the car doesn't have a balanced ride when you just add shocks
Classic ABC failure.
When it's working it's one of the best suspension systems and you'll never forget the smooth driving experience. When it's broken you'll also never forget the repair cost.
LMAO W220 with bad AirMatic. There’s not twelve turbos under there. This guy got this for 3k and is running it. Color me surprised.
This guy hears ‘EEEEEEEEEEE’ and sees AIRMATIC ⬆️⬆️⬆️ VISIT WORKSHOP! Every time he drives his car. That’s why I don’t have one anymore. ‘Fix AirMatic’ oh good to go. Short while later EEEEEEEEEEE ⬆️⚠️ again.
everyone's saying airmatic but this is an S500 (as in not the standard S430) which came with active body control (ABC) *hydraulic* suspension... a much more significant endeavor to fix than "just" blown air struts
Own a 2003 S500, no ABC system whatsoever only airmatic. Easiest way to tell is under the hood, hydraulic pump for ABC runs off the serpentine belt. No pump = no ABC
For the W220 it was standard on the S55 and S600 but an optional upgrade for the S430 and S500
I'm glad mine doesn't have it. Was interested in a CL55 i saw at auction a few years back going for like 5k less than market and as soon as i got in it and saw the ABC fault lights i was like yeah okay thats why lol
now i see where i got mixed up, it's the *600* where it was standard... i knew there was a non-AMG model where ABC came standard but totally forgot about the 600 lol... and yea these days i'd worry about owning an ABC equipped benz
Oh noo…. This is how you turn a beautiful car into a fucking eyesore and make yourself look ridiculous on the street. They should actually pay fines for being allowed to drive such a clunker.
The car usually tells you very clearly NOT TO DRIVE when there is an issue with the airmatic system. He probably ignored it for so long that it had to hit him in the face at the end 🥲

That one looks a lot like mine. Without the face down ass up pose. It’s a constant fight now days to keep this thing from looking like W220s like that. Whenever I see one looking crazy self doubt creeps in and I wonder to myself “do I look like that going down the road?”
man i loved my w220 but when the airmatic went bad and the center dash just goes bright red saying “RETURN TO WORKSHOP” in big ass letters, made me feel so uneasy
15-minute job, it can happen any time on the road, you can get to your destination and fix it. https://w220.wiki/Airmatic#Level_Sensor_(B22/3,_B22/8,_B22/9)
air suspension is dumb idea , it always fails , my neighbor hot his 550 benz air suspension fixed twice in last 2 years , 10k right out of window. he is selling it now and swore he will never buy a car with air suspension...
That he needs new air struts.
The airmatic valve block is leaking internally, the heavy engine pushes the air out of the front and to the rear
Usually it’s the rear that sags. What a shit box.
The airmatic valve block is leaking internally, the heavy engine pushes the air out of the front and to the rear

Dude has a Mercedes, but not Mercedes money.
The airmatic valve block is leaking internally, the heavy engine pushes the air out of the front and to the rear
>the heavy engine pushes the air out of the front and to the rear That's not how this shit works lol.
Really, so what is wrong with it? My 18 years of working in Mercedes says differently
This car doesn't have turbos. It's not possible that it's "packing more weight than it can handle", as OP is suggesting. The engine is the heaviest bit until my ex-wife steps in*
Bro 😂😂😂😂😂
I find it funny that even though you are correct so many people downvoted your responses
Airmatic failure. What a moron to drive in such conditions.
This is not airmatic. It's even worse it's the ABC suspension.
It’s Airmatic. Only 600s 55s and 65s had ABC. I think ABC was available as an option on a sport package S500
Airmatic would compensate for the front being so low —in which it would lower the back to make it more even/stable. I think it’s ABC too
Ok I have a W220 with Airmatic. My car would lower in the front and raise in the back overnight before I got a new valve block. I’ve also busted struts a couple times and even if there no pressure in the strut the other struts will stay pumped up as you drive or will pump up on start up. I believe you
lol me in forums doing research to be sure that I’m right about all this stuff I’m talking😅
😂😂😂😂
Literally are NOT supposed to drive on a blown ABC and for good reason This is so dangerous
Most likely an airmatic car, The airmatic valve block is leaking internally, the heavy engine pushes the air out of the front and to the rear
Weren’t they all airmatic?
No, some were ABC, the AMG ones were ABC
Oh nice, I didn’t know there was a difference.
ABC is hydraulic, Airmatic is pneumatic.
There is also a company that will sell you coil overs to replace the airmatic ones, or same with the ABC, it comes with a P/S pump, reservoir and lines to get rid of it
I wish we could see who downvoted 😂
Yeah, kind of don’t care, they are probably angry people who left Twitter when Elon took over
Why are you downvoted you’re right 💀
Yeah I lol'd at all the non mechanics voting this guy down
I am wondering if this was posted as a joke and people didn’t want to hear facts, not sure. There seems to be a lot of angry people on this page that don’t like hearing the truth
Maybe it’s because you commented about the airmatic block on 4 separate comments?
As I have replied to others and your comments prove, people don’t read other comments people post after they post a comment , so replied to inform others of the issue
My brother in christ include the explanation as well.

Yes I read your explanation in another thread. Do make a separate comment with the explanation. People are downvoting you despite you being right.
I think Reddit is full of a lot of agree people who left Twitter when Elon took over
This is so sad. Such a great Benz going to shit possibly because someone overextended and can't pay the upkeep.
Maybe if the rear window blind wasn't a $1000 job...the rest of the car wouldn't be so expensive to fix? Idk. I got a Merc and it's been nothing but issues.
Is that the C240 (checked your post history)? So sorry to hear that mate.
Yeah I'm pretty sure the PCM just took a shit today, engine and transmission had power, every other electronic was dead until I cleared the code. P0600. I feel like I basically just got the red ring of death of a car.
Goddamnit! Did you buy her with a full service history?
Doesn't have a single service record.
Oh man. I genuinely feel so bad when I hear someone run into problems with a Benz. I bought some great cars when I was a lot younger, but I inherited a multitude of problems. I’ll buy it as a donor parts car for the right price i in nj and can tow it
I noticed that on your post when you bought it. We live and learn. Honda is great. Toyota is also extremely reliable.
The code reads Serial Communication Link.
Dude, find a good indie in your neighborhood. 1000$ for the rear window sounds outrageous especially that the whole thing costs peanuts second hand. I understand you want to buy a a new mechanism but the glass window can totally be second hand.
No, the shade. My Merc has an electronic window shade for the rear window and with labor and all it's over 1000 to get replaced.
i think the car lost his wallet and went back looking for it
I'm tired boss...
bro think he a funny car
Hahaha so funny 🤪
He’s one who bought the car but couldn’t afford the repairs and now is driving it as such
Step 1: buy a w220 Step 2: remove Airmatic and install regular springs Step 3: everyone everywhere will comment that this was a dumb decision and very stupid and you ruined the car. Step 4: have a problem free suspension, and save thousands of dollars in the long run.
Yeah sure, I've fixed my airmatic for like 1000$ and it’s problem-free for more than 130k kilometers.
Point proven
That is retarted as an airmatic or abc version car comes with no sway bar so adding coil overs doesnt fix sht as the car doesn't have a balanced ride when you just add shocks
Add control arms and sway bar from s500, ez. How I got rid of ABC on my s55 with Strutmasters kit
Airmatic cars have sway bars. I’ve seen mine enough times to know

The opposite of a Carolina squat.
Just a little bit of rake
Brake
0h no the front suspension has gone.
Front suspension delete, might be a new trend.
Literally negates the reason you buy a Mercedes. The power, luxury and suspension. The suspension is ruined.
"power" bro my Merc pushes 168hp, what power.
Bro needs to fix his car. The w220 is a solid platform, looks good, and is reliable.
The song " low Rider" comes to mind and Cheech and Chong when I seen this 😒
Lmao, great reference 😂
He said if it move, imma drive it 🤷🏾♂️
Clapped out
Whole round of applause
“Oh look a quarter!”
Mercedes bent 😲
🏆👌
Nose diving
Classic ABC failure. When it's working it's one of the best suspension systems and you'll never forget the smooth driving experience. When it's broken you'll also never forget the repair cost.
AirMaticprobs
Airmatic is on the fritz!
NOPE
Silly, whatever - is it safe? Doesn’t look safe.
It is, it’s just the rear sensor that broke.
The airmatic valve block is leaking internally, the heavy engine pushes the air out of the front and to the rear
Hey you should comment this exact same thing another 40 times just to be sure everyone sees it. /s
Not everyone comes back to look at what others say, I was just replying to them so they can be informed, sorry to upset you /s
Hey you should comment this exact same thing another 40 times just to be sure everyone sees it. /s
Why do you keep saying this 😂
Cause as I already told someone else, not everyone goes and looks at the comments others made, so you have to reply to their comment to educate them
I can hear what pulling into my driveway would sound like.
Still better than squatted trucks people purposely do
Groundmatic>Airmatic
Burn it
Just no.
Uhhhh… that’s some serious issues.
Rear sensor, easy fix
I call that one the “engine fell over”

I found the guy with too much money.
They don’t call it the worst gen S Class for nothing!
Needs more low
I think it looks like a deathtrap, hope he never touches the brake pedal on a wet bend
IMO worst S Class generation ever ! By the way it looks, the way it drives, and the fit/finish.
pov you’re american
The car usually tells you very clearly NOT TO DRIVE when there is an issue with the airmatic system. He probably ignored it for so long that it had to hit him in the face at the end 🥲
Mercedes W220 moment:
American driver
Absolutely Stunning I Definitely Can’t Wait Whenever I Get Mine & Can Finally Join The Mercedes Benz Club ❤️🔥🥰❤️💙🖤
W220 was absolute low point in quality at Mercedes. That air suspension is nightmare to live. Props to the driver for putting up with all that
If he got drag slicks in the rear it wouldn’t look that bad
FDAU
I think it's one of the dumbest looking cars I've ever seen. Also, hands down the worst S-Class
What is this Mad Max like shit? 😂😂😂

How hard is it really to DIY fix the airmatic system?
Not difficult once you diagnose and determine what you have to fix. Compressor, valve block, shocks, that's the whole system.
I love it. Needs the valve replaced and probably struts at this point. I'd personally switch to coilovers.
Still looks better than the new M4
No biggie, all I see is a simple $4,000 repair and good as new. 😂
Actually, it's less than 100$ for the original part to fix this issue.
classic case of TAR, that aint right
What happens if he makes a hard stop being that his nose is already in the ground ? Lol
10k car with 25k of maintenance needed
And I thought my w211 E300 looked bad when my front springs broke…
Looks like the air suspension needs to be replaced pronto.
Somebody chopped the springs a little too much
Suspension issues for sure
man i loved my w220 but when the airmatic went bad and the center dash just goes bright red saying “RETURN TO WORKSHOP” in big ass letters, made me feel so uneasy
AIRMATIC VISIT WORKSHOP!
Couple of 2x4 chunks will fix it right up.
🤢🤮
Holy shit, bench drivers ARE insufferable.
Needs Craigers.
400lbs driver or Carolina Squat?
He wanted a flip buggy from GTA
Looks like he is panic braking that shitheap

oh my gyatt
S500 isn’t supposed to do/look like that 🤣🤣
Is front air suspension is blown
Abc cars definitely dont and i wouldn't know about airmatic as its cheaper option and I'd be buying top of line in all my cars
Wow. That is incredibly dangerous.
Airmatic visit workshop
That first speed bump is gonna suck so bad.
air suspension is dumb idea , it always fails , my neighbor hot his 550 benz air suspension fixed twice in last 2 years , 10k right out of window. he is selling it now and swore he will never buy a car with air suspension...
Fat bitches in the front
When you can only afford one pair of lowering springs
Drives around looking like he under hard braking. Help it won’t stop!
What’s everyone’s knows is, it’s not how you stand by your car. It’s how you race your car. Better learn that 😭
Car is worth $250 bucks. Even if the front struts were good
You found my (dream) car! Great job!
