You're so right. I think one of the things I love most about these games is that I can completely ignore some mechanics and that allows me to explore them at my own pace and on my terms. Such as during unique playthroughs.
In the first playthrough? No.
In the second playthrough? hell yes + legacy style (although I'm pretty sure the filter is associated with legacy style by default)
Game developers do stupid stuff all the time, it wouldn’t be unprecedented if they did that. If enough fans said something if it was that way they may fix it in a patch. Bang boom case and point, monster hunter world needed day 1 poogie patch
>I don’t know why anyone thought
The reason is in [this interview ](https://youtu.be/HDCppzRLwpw?si=SfwZWsu2s_Kl-3Ua&t=520)it was said that the Legacy style controls also apply a visual filter. So it was either a mistake/mistranslation or they realised it would be unpopular to couple the settings + decided to change it.
We got confirmation that the settings were split from each other when Konami gave that information to Eurogamer.
Finally someone else said something. I've felt like I'm going fucking nuts because everyone has been praising the piss filter of the PS2 game that DOESN'T EXIST
It also looks wayyy overdone. Like in the original, it wasn't really a "filter", it was just scenes' color grading. Some scenes and environments were color graded to be hazy and yellow/green, but not all of them. The first to come to mind: the colors in the waterfall area after the Sorrow fight are extremely vibrant, natural, and clear. And even the ones that *were* color graded weren't all done equally so.
pretty sure this pic is just a fan who did it. I cant speak for the quality of the actual filter in game but i don’t think we’ve gotten this scene with the filter on from Konami yet
Based on the picture looks just like yellow turned on.
Take a look at the soldiers cap, it looks red in the original and in the remake with the filter off while in the image with filter on it looks like someone pissed on him.
That is however if the picture was taken from Konami or just a concept created by a fan.
Game looks fine as is. I don't see a reason to use the filter (at least on first playthrough). If I wanted the game to look exactly like the original, I'd just play the original.
The original 'filter' reads more like sepia tinted film with a weird blurry high exposure camera or something, it feels old, it works. But for the remake it looks like they just cranked up the yellow to vaguely match
Definitely not. It was great for the time, but I'm kind of tired of the whole "Mexico filter" phenomenon lately. Maybe for a second run of the game. But for now, I'm totally going for the realistic look!
At least from the still, I didn't like it so much, because it really looks just like a yellow filter.
Isn't the original adjusted for contrast, at least?
I was scrolling down on my feed…saw this pic and thought: “Apparently David Duchovny is the model for a young Big Boss now?”
I don’t know why they didn’t just attempt to touch up BB’s face from MGSV to make him look younger.
No. At least not in the first playthrough. Those filters served their purpose in their time with the past visuals. It was an artistic choice to make the tone stand out given the tech of the time. Right now, being able to appreciate the hyper realistic beauty of the setting is immersive enough that I don’t wanna take away from the vibrance and detail of the world for nostalgia.
Nah, despite my introduction being 3 itself for me at least the remake looks prettier without the filter + Delta's filter is very obviously a filter, OG 3's was more natural, like genuine sunlight. Plus other colors looked better, look at Delta's filter, Snake's suit looks black & yellow rather than black & red. Looks like an uniform of The Pain
classic filter on, it makes MGS Delta look closer to what was intended, and honestly it looks like what you'd imagine MGS3 to look like with Modern graphics now.
Was the yellow filter an artistic choice or a technical thing? Pretty much all the AAA games in that time looked like that (GTA San Andreas, Black, Burnout Revenge, MGS3, NFS Most Wanted, Killzone...).
I will play without the classic filter. The lighting of the remake reminds me of the lighting of MGS2, which is my favourite.
No classic filter, no legacy play style on first run but likely in a second play trying everything every way. I played the original on release, the ps3 collections when it hit, going through SE on the master collection now. I know what the play is and I can’t wait for this new experience. This ALL NEW experience. I know what this series means to me, and it’s not about a filter. The day my child was born I went back to my place to get a few extra blankets for mom. This included an hour+ detour to get Substance. This was not an authorized detour with the team. I had no license.
The filter only worked back in 2004 because of the limited graphics and it could hide certain elements now it just looks like a ps3 game with the filter on
Nope. I’m gonna enjoy the rich new colors as a new experience. I played MGS3 all day and night after getting it for Xmas in 2004 as a 16yr old... I’ll never forget how this game made me appreciate a good story, cinematic and the amazing character development. And it’s hard to believe I might get to capture that feeling again 20 years later!
Hell yeah I'll be playing with the filter, it's part of the art direction and what sets it apart from other games. Photorealistic graphics are a plague in modern gaming, not because there's anything wrong with looking good, but because of the emphasis on "realistic" lighting. Day to day lighting is flat, cold, and boring but because of "muh realism" it's becoming the norm in AAA games. Realism without style/direction is pointless, you're engaging in art. Everything in the OG would've been designed with the filter in mind which will naturally affect the remake.
It might not be part of the art direction of the remake. They might have been developing the game for years and decided to add option for the filter late because fans want it. There is no guarantee that it will look great in every scene with new graphics.
1st play through? fuck no looking back on it now looks like someone took a piss on my camera(there is a mod that removes it and it looks good on og mgs3) same with re5 why do devs add the piss filter
Holy I didn’t think it would translate very well in the remake but it looks great!! definitely not on my 1st playthrough as I want to experience the new vision they’ve been working on but all my next playthroughs will be with this!!
Nope. I spent 7 years or so complaining about gaming using piss filters, 2nd and 3rd gen consoles were big offenders in this regard.
In mgs3 it made sense at least and felt like a stilistical choice, but still i will go without.
That's crazy talk. Doing that just ruins the chance of a metal gear solid 1 remake and a metal gear remake that comes off the heels from metal gear solid 5
I don't like neither of them, the default one is too much on the cold side, while the legacy filter is too yellow, I'll probably do a middle way with a reshade when I will play it.
Tho this post yellow filter's is not going to be the one from the game, it's just edited, it will probably look a bit better.
I feel like that filter does not match what they were going for in the original, it needs more depth and contrast and not just be a simple color overlay
I will play without the color filter. I felt the color filter in the original was partially designed to recreated the aged home film look of footage from the era.
in a similar vein, I played Ishin without the filters, and when I tried to enable them I found it more of a distraction than immersion
I love that they’ve added it in for nostalgia. But the beauty of this remake is the hyper-realism on current-gen hardware, so I’ll be playing it without on my first play through.
“That visual filter gives you no tactical advantage whatsoever”
Piss filter, gives the tactical advantage to avoid snipers
Piss ? Sniper ? are you talking about tf2
#JARATE!
r/suddenlytf2
Is this...?! Mon dieu!
Maybe..
We've managed to avoid drowning!
Piss filter gives you no tactical advantage whatsoever
"But that was some fancy pissing. You're pretty good"
HOME OF CHALLENGE PISSING!
THAT'S RIGHT. CHALLENGE PISSING
If you can piss 6 feet straight up and not get wet, you get NO DOWN PAYMENT!
Don’t wait, don’t delay, DON’T FUCK WITH US or we’ll RIP YOUR NUTS OFF. Only at Big Bill Hell’s, the only dealer that tells you to FUCK OFF.
GUARANTEED!
“You don’t have what it takes to piss me off.” I tried.😅
“But that was some fancy shooting. You’re pretty good.”
You filthy casual dog!! 🔪
Visual filter?
But it was some fancy filtering.
gooooold
You were the deciding factor in my decision
I’d love it if they had a call-out stating this in some sort of explanation of the filter setting.
I'll probably do two playthroughs with and without the filter
This is my plan. MGS 3 has such great replay value
I recently played a no-tranq Euro Extreme run and it was amazing. The amount of playstyles you can do is insane. Everyone should try this run once
Yeah that seems easier than it is. Makes for some crazy fun.
You really have to think of each level like a puzzle, and you have to utilise a lot of the game mechanics too
You're so right. I think one of the things I love most about these games is that I can completely ignore some mechanics and that allows me to explore them at my own pace and on my terms. Such as during unique playthroughs.
I'll pass... my liver is still healthy for now
The Mexican filter stays on
During CQC (and another 3-letter word)
SiQSi*
Si Que Si
See Queue See
Siuuuuuuuuu que Siuuuuuuuuu
Si, Cucaracha Que Chupacabra
MGS?
ah yes, I simply can't play without the piss filter
In the first playthrough? No. In the second playthrough? hell yes + legacy style (although I'm pretty sure the filter is associated with legacy style by default)
Apparently they confirmed the filter can be used regardless of the mode
To be fair I don’t know why anyone thought it couldn’t. A filter is purely visual
Game developers do stupid stuff all the time, it wouldn’t be unprecedented if they did that. If enough fans said something if it was that way they may fix it in a patch. Bang boom case and point, monster hunter world needed day 1 poogie patch
Wait what they patch on poogie? I am out of loop.as i came into world late :b
Yeah the devs thought it was unneeded I guess but people were like “where is our poogie!” So they patched him in immediately
Wait wait wait you tellin me poogie didn't exist before :o
He was in all the previous monster hunter games but left out of world until the day 1 patch
>I don’t know why anyone thought The reason is in [this interview ](https://youtu.be/HDCppzRLwpw?si=SfwZWsu2s_Kl-3Ua&t=520)it was said that the Legacy style controls also apply a visual filter. We got confirmation that the settings were split from each other when Konami gave that information to Eurogamer.
If, for some reason, you can't I think it is not hard to replicate the filter in reshade
No, because that color is so fucking ugly I love it though
Based MGS fan.
Thing is the OG wasn't just a filter all the textures were designed for the colour scheme, while this time it's just a filter.
Finally someone else said something. I've felt like I'm going fucking nuts because everyone has been praising the piss filter of the PS2 game that DOESN'T EXIST
Same. First playtrough without filter, second with.
I will play with the default settings for the first time.
No, I quite like the change. I'll be using the new controls too!
Change?? Disgusting. Fake fan. /s
🤣I've already played it that way though.😭
And you'll play it again with the piss green filter and like it, just as Godjima intended.
❗
🔫
Eh, doesn't look that good with the art style on the new graphics.
And even the ones that *were* color graded weren't all done equally so.
this is a fan edit, we dont entirely know how itll look in game yet
Is it just yellow overlay turned on? Or did they take time to adjust it?
pretty sure this pic is just a fan who did it.
Please let it be a fan concept. Yellow overly looks horrendous. I can do that shit in my monitor color adjustment setting.
and there are people saying it looks amazing! that filter is absolutely murdering any color that scene had to it haha
Mexico in breaking bad filter looking ass
Game looks fine as is. I don't see a reason to use the filter (at least on first playthrough). If I wanted the game to look exactly like the original, I'd just play the original.
I despise that piss filter in any game it shows up.
Damm the 7th generation must have been rough for you
You have no idea
Well at least it was gone by the ps4 generation. Just cause 3 would look pretty bad with the piss filter lol.
You must really hate RE5
I do play with a mod to unpiss it.
The original 'filter' reads more like sepia tinted film with a weird blurry high exposure camera or something, it feels old, it works. But for the remake it looks like they just cranked up the yellow to vaguely match
The return of piss filter games hell yeah
Definitely not. It was great for the time, but I'm kind of tired of the whole "Mexico filter" phenomenon lately. Maybe for a second run of the game. But for now, I'm totally going for the realistic look!
Honestly, those filters were the bane of video game visuals during the mid-2000s. They looked crap at the time and age has done them no favours.
No thanks. That already saturated the RE5 for me.
RE5 without the filter was gorgeous.
Yeah! I was thinking: Why?! When I saw it. 😄
It is legit one of the best looking games of its generation and yet Capcom was like “ yeah let’s put a filter over this to make it look like ass”
At least from the still, I didn't like it so much, because it really looks just like a yellow filter. Isn't the original adjusted for contrast, at least?
probably not, like it’s cool in a nostalgic sense but I don’t think it makes the game look any better and I liked the colors of MGS2 more.
No, i played enough piss filter games in my life.
I'm more concerned how they changed Snake's face.
End of the day it's not about how good your graphics are, but what you do with them.
I was scrolling down on my feed…saw this pic and thought: “Apparently David Duchovny is the model for a young Big Boss now?” I don’t know why they didn’t just attempt to touch up BB’s face from MGSV to make him look younger.
I think I’ll play without the filter
no...
Maybe on my second playthrough
Might just be me but does the filter make it look more humid to anyone else
I'll probably play through the game several times. So the answer is: yes.
Definitely not
Nah, despite my introduction being 3 itself for me at least the remake looks prettier without the filter + Delta's filter is very obviously a filter, OG 3's was more natural, like genuine sunlight. Plus other colors looked better, look at Delta's filter, Snake's suit looks black & yellow rather than black & red. Looks like an uniform of The Pain
Ngl clean filter looks good.
no because It looks ugly af
Breaking Bad Mexico filter
i think itll be cool to experience with no filter cause they probably worked pretty hard to make it look good i dont wanna out that to waste
I’ll play it with the filter off the first time. I played the original to death, I want to experience it in a new way.
Me playing the original when it came out - “Russia is in Mexico?”
I'll have that turned on. There is a vision and I get it.
I’m still not convinced this game is gonna work. It’s not a sandbox game like MGSV. It’s really just jungle corridors.
I guess this might be a hot take but I personally don’t think open world added anything to metal gear.
classic filter on, it makes MGS Delta look closer to what was intended, and honestly it looks like what you'd imagine MGS3 to look like with Modern graphics now.
In my opinion the visual filter suits the original but not the remake. Remember folks, ∆ means "change" too
It depend with the shot every area has it unique filter on the remake but the original is different and there is no room for comparison between them.
It looks good in the original but in the remake it just looks like a film of piss over the lens

The filter only worked back in 2004 because of the limited graphics and it could hide certain elements now it just looks like a ps3 game with the filter on
I didn't know they're bringing the filter back,
The piss filter
I will play both
Absolutely. Need my piss filter for it to feel real.
First playthrough definitely not. Maybe in a subsequent one.
Do I want to play in Mexico or America....
Does anyone know if the filter is optional on both play styles or do you only get it while playing legacy style?
I'm probably gonna use it on a second playthrough. I want to see how good the graphics are
Probably never? I sure as shit mod the green filter out of Fallout 3 so I can't say it'd feel good to use this... even if it is for the GRU.
West Coast filter stays on
Just like Mexico, everything in Russia has a yellow tint
Nah I wanna experience a remaster, not the piss filter again
The piss filter stays ON during the gameplay
No Filter! I’ve played the OG Snake Eater like 20 times lol
I'll try both and see which ones annoys me less
3 playthroughs each
Your brain gets used to the filter and ignores it anyway, so I'd rather have accurate colors so it doesn't look like someone pissed all over my screen
Honesty no. I hate filters in games
Ngl, the piss filter looks like ass. But I might try using it on occasion for a nostalgia hit.
Is it just me or does it look completely soulless? OG graphically outdated but has character and style, remake's style is just "unreal 5 remake #67"
Funnily enough, the piss filter is closer to how I see the normal world
I was worried that the classic yellow filter wasn’t going to be included. Glad it’s coming back :)
Putting my piss goggles back on chief.
With and then without and 3rd playthrough with naked mod where all characters are naked and sexy
Absolutely yes, give me the piss goggles
Is it just me, or does the original show a bit more emotion?
I rather play it without the pee pee filter
Hell yeah I'll be playing with the filter, it's part of the art direction and what sets it apart from other games. Photorealistic graphics are a plague in modern gaming, not because there's anything wrong with looking good, but because of the emphasis on "realistic" lighting. Day to day lighting is flat, cold, and boring but because of "muh realism" it's becoming the norm in AAA games. Realism without style/direction is pointless, you're engaging in art. Yeah it really set it apart from all the other 2000s games that were using the piss filter
Absolutely, I honestly love piss filters for some weird reason.
no I prefer the new look
Holy I didn’t think it would translate very well in the remake but it looks great!! definitely not on my 1st playthrough as I want to experience the new vision they’ve been working on but all my next playthroughs will be with this!!
As much as I like mgs3's visual style, I am kinda bored of the piss filter most 2000s games had, so a pass for me
Nope. I spent 7 years or so complaining about gaming using piss filters, 2nd and 3rd gen consoles were big offenders in this regard. In mgs3 it made sense at least and felt like a stilistical choice, but still i will go without.
I'm not playing the remake because the original is perfect and after the way Konami treated Kojima I refuse to buy something from them. #FuckKonami
That's crazy talk. Doing that just ruins the chance of a metal gear solid 1 remake and a metal gear remake that comes off the heels from metal gear solid 5
Probably not on the first run. I had my fill of the piss filter in all honesty. I’d like to see what it’d look like without it.
Age hasn't slowed you down one bit
“Just look at that filter. If you can put the piss behind you, you won’t survive long.”
I'm going to play it every way possible the more stupid the better.
I remember playing the original so well it feels weird without the filter TBH.
Fuck nah I like my naked snake without jaundice
Without filter. With the filter, John looks like he has massive liver damage.
I'm so hyped for this but is it just me or does snake lack emotions in his face
Definitely on the second run
Piss filter clashes with new graphics and engine imo, cool feature but would rather experience the remake in its intended graphical fidelity
Nah I'm gonna play it without the filter. Deus Ex Human Revolution also had the golden filter and I hated how yellow everything looked.
im gonna get eaten alive for this but i thought the piss filter in the og looked ugly so probably not
I hate the lack of atmosphere in the previews I've seen so far. Filter it is then, it might help.
Without, absolutely.
Yes. I'll Play Without it on the First Time Playing it. And I'll Play with it on The Second time.
I don't like neither of them, the default one is too much on the cold side, while the legacy filter is too yellow, I'll probably do a middle way with a reshade when I will play it. Tho this post yellow filter's is not going to be the one from the game, it's just edited, it will probably look a bit better.
Only question is if it's gonna be as bloomy or if it's just the piss filter..
Yes, I think the piss filter is an important part of the original game.
cant miss with the piss! (filter)
I feel like that filter does not match what they were going for in the original, it needs more depth and contrast and not just be a simple color overlay
Hell no.
That filter got me feeling like I’m living in Mexico.
Love snake eater but god i hated the piss filter era of games.
that looks awful with the remake. yall need to take off your nostalgia glasses.
Maybe playthrough 2, i feel like mgs3 is one of the only games where I like the piss filter weirdly.
Nah. I dont think it fits with the way the Remake looks
Breaking Bad filter But yeah if i have my hands on a PS5 in the future imma play with it. (my PC wont handle it for shit) Looks dope asl
I probably won't but I like the option is there The bloom was perfectly fitted for the PS2 version and its assets
Maybe on a repeat playthrough. I want to see the new lighting first and see how it compared with the filter.
I will play without the color filter. I felt the color filter in the original was partially designed to recreated the aged home film look of footage from the era. in a similar vein, I played Ishin without the filters, and when I tried to enable them I found it more of a distraction than immersion
that guy doesnt even look like solid snake in the remake.. smh
Nah I honestly never liked it that much
I’m sure someone will make a proper LUT, but what’s used in the above image definitely isn’t it.
I will on the second playthrough First playthrough I'm going to take in all the new visuals with no piss.
The correct answer is: I will do a playthrough with both.
The yellow Mexico filter
I love that they’ve added it in for nostalgia. But the beauty of this remake is the hyper-realism on current-gen hardware, so I’ll be playing it without on my first play through.
Of course, without if snake looks weird
It looks like crap, or rather, piss
I’ll end up playing 3000 times so both I guess lol.
I don't see how I couldn't, playing it with neutral colours feels sacrilege
Gunna play the original just before release, then the remake with no filter, and once more with the filter
It’s weird that I kind of didn’t notice how really yellow it was in the original. Playing without it for the remake.
If i ever got a ps5 and the remake id play it without filter just for it to feel fresh
Oh hell yeah, it looks great.
