I don't believe theres any harm just people havin' fun with metal gear characters everyone knows they are both just dudes who are friends to the end.
While theres certainly been a lot of gay erasure by historians and in fiction that doesn't mean every pair of close friends are secretly gay and it being hidden by the biases of the media.
It does happen but I've also met a lot of people who cant separate their head canon of a character being apart of the lgbt+ spectrum and what is actually in the series.
