Judging by the poor window quality it’s definitely USA.
edit to add: the ukrainians use normal window glass and the somalis have a different style altogether.
my neighbor once asked me to lie to the police about this sort of thing. he misfired while cleaning a gun, and it hit someones car across the street. i halfheartedly agreed, but was never questioned. wasnt until 30 minutes later after we talked that i decided i would not be lying if asked. cause it took that long to dawn on me that if he had been aiming down, he could have outright killed me. our living rooms where this happened are one on top of the other
he no longer has guns in the house, thank god
Omg I get this reference and I'm fucking dying 😂😭 "I think it got me in the vest." also, "my legs went numb" fucking guy
ETA: I didn't know this was posted on reddit, I saw the bodycam videos on YouTube
Did that guy have some kind of untreated PTSD, or was he just a massively unbelievable coward?
You ***know*** when you get hit in the vest even by small calibers.
lol coward through and through.
In fact I’d say the cowardice and fear is largely trained into them.
https://gen.medium.com/fearing-for-our-lives-82ad7eb7d75f
I'm going with the coward option. He was in the military but apparently he himself said he never saw combat, so there probably shouldn't be any PTSD there.
To add to this, even in the military our training wasn’t to just start blasting at things if we heard a gunshot. If anything his reactions shows a lack of training with an extreme amount of fear/cowardice.
yeah that's a good point, the training is definitely intense.
but agreed, he definitely should've been weeded out, however not surprised his issues were missed.
I think he's referencing the story a few days ago where a cop [just lost his fuckin mind](https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2024/02/14/acorn-florida-police-shoot-unarmed/) and shot up a street because he thought an acorn falling and hitting his vehicle was someone shooting at him with a suppressed weapon.
I ain't no hardcore commando by a wide mile, but I don't unload a pistol every time an acorn drops nearby. Then he tripped in his panic which made him panic even harder.
It's so bad, even his department wouldn't protect him. Apparently, for what has to be one of the first times in recorded history, a police department's official report deemed a cop's use of force as "unreasonable" and the dude flat out resigned.
I have heard he was a veteran and possibly suffering from PTSD, which would make me sympathetic to a degree but also angry he made it that far. Like, our veterans healthcare is terrible, especially on the mental side of things. But that dude is so on edge he shouldn't be allowed to own firearms even in his civilian life.
I don't think people understand how few people in the Armed Forces are even near combat ever. That doesn't mean they don't get PTSD anyway for some other reason, mind you...
I was in Iraq, but never in combat. When indirect rocket fire attacks happened, an alarm would warn you before they hit, giving you some time to run to a nearby bunker.
In an airport there was an alarm that sounded \*exactly\* the same whenever the baggage was coming out onto the carousel.. It spooked me several times and I found myself running before I figured it out.
Yeah but if you have PTSD from SA, an acorn hitting the car isn't going to set you off. Getting PTSD from stacking too many shelves in army logistics isn't going to either.
How very dare you even think about infringing on their God given right to own massive amounts of deadly weapons so that they can ~~one day snap and shoot up a crowd~~ defend themselves.
You're missing a very important detail. The cop had someone detained in the back of his car. He thought the acorn noise was coming from the person inside shooting out at him. The cop then unloaded his gun on his own vehicle trying to kill the person inside. He also told his partner he had been shot and asked them to also shoot at his car. The person inside was miraculously not hit.
The first one who's really caring about me. The rest are arguing whether the picture is taken from inside or outside the house.
Thank you, nobody was inside thankfully 🙏
Stray bullet went through our window. Dad says I should fix it, but I'm busy and it's his house. He says I should do it because he's the one who got shot and is in the ICU. AITA??
I had a friend die in this exact situation. He was inside his home and stray bullets from a separate altercation entered his home and killed him. Tragic way to go, thinking you are safe in your home.

It wasn't until I saw this post that I realized the same thing happened to me like 20 years ago. I had forgotten about it. It happened, and we kind of laughed it off. Yeah. America I guess.
Both me and my brother have had stray bullets hit our cars. Different cities and states too so it's not like it can be blamed on living in a dangerous area (though my brother had it happen in New Orleans, so it was in fact in a dangerous area)..
Definitely America.
Sure, but wait until someone comes by your house and makes a witty, but scathing, observation in your general direction. Are you sure your ego could handle that?
A little over 20 years ago, a stray bullet came through my window and hit my dining room wall. My oldest son was sitting in his high chair and from the angle of entry, it missed his head by about an inch. That was the most terrifying night of my life.
This happened to me once in Nashville. Went away for vacation over 4th of July and noticed a hole in my bathroom wall. Thought a nail had popped in the wall until I heard my backyard neighbors shooting guns off on NYE later that year. I went outside the next day and looked where the hole was, and saw a hole on the outside as well and finally connected the dots- they had shot into my house.
We moved a few months later- sold the house for double what we bought it for but I still wonder what those people are up to.
If you look closely it sure appears that the bullet came from the inside, not the outside. The hole in the blind is spreading outward towards the glass. Am I wrong?
My buddy was downstairs with his daughter when he heard something smack the house. He said it sounded like a big bird flew full force into siding. Later he was upstairs and noticed a hole in the window in the bedroom. Then a hole in the adjacent wall into the bathroom and actually found the slug in the bathtub. The walls+ thick shower curtain had slowed it to a stop. The hole in the bathroom wall was right at head height if you were standing at the sink. Police came and identified the round as a .308 and by the trajectory said it came from over 1/2 a mile away.
My grandfather accidentally did that a couple years ago. He was testing one of his guns and accidentally fired it straight through like 6 walls. Luckily he didn’t hit my grandmother, that would’ve been bad
Why does the bullet hole on the shade protrude out? You sure someone in the house didn't fire it? That is not an entry hole, with the force of a gunshot, that's an exit hole.
I would contact the police if I were you OP. It could be an unseen error on the part of someone nearby who is target practicing. When I was younger, me and my dad were shooting targets, and somehow a stray round managed to travel nearly a mile through trees and over a hill and hit someone's garage door. The police came, and the next day we met with the guy, and we worked it out. There were no charges or anything. We took better precautions after that to ensure safety.

that whole video is on YouTube Law&Crime channel and it's unreal. "my legs went numb" well sir, you're a lil bitch then.

I mean, from the fact you’re posting it in r/mildlyinteresting we can take a pretty good guess
Are you suggesting that if you or a loved one was shot, the first thing you do will NOT be posting about the window on Reddit?
It would be R/mildlyinfuriating: a stray bullet went through my window and killed my firstborn child
AITA?
ESH
What does ESH mean?
YTA. should've treated the bullet better. You had that coming
Look guys, a bullet went through my window. this is mildly interesting. BTW It killed 3 of my children and 12 of my pets.
Sure, Lisa, some wonderful, magical bullet.
Stray bullet went through our window. Dad says I should fix it, but I'm busy and it's his house. He says I should do it because he's the one who got shot and is in the ICU. AITA??

Well, that's r/mildlyinteresting ....
Also, probably everyone thinking how American it is to be mildly interested by your house getting accidentally shot
Did you find where it ultimately came to rest?
I think i found it on the floor, it's kinda squashed, I'm no expert
Have you contacted the police? Obviously something to contact the police for in my country and would be seen as very risky and dangerous.
Well, which was it? Inside or outside?
Oh wow 😅 Glad to hear you're all allright! 👍
Is it inside or out? Looks like inside, but weird having curtain like thing outside
Obviously it's indoors
Blinds on the outside??

Only in America that is mildly interesting. Everywhere else it's fucking horrifying.
If you look closely it sure appears that the bullet came from the inside, not the outside. The hole in the blind is spreading outward towards the glass. Am I wrong?
the photo is taken from the inside
I get that now... I have never seen shutters like the one in the picture, thought they were inside blinds.
I’ve never seen metal deform towards the projectile, unless it was a hardened steel and hardened penetrator round.
My buddy was downstairs with his daughter when he heard something smack the house. He said it sounded like a big bird flew full force into siding. I can tell you’re American by the way this is “mildly interesting”
USA...
That's uhh.. a little concerning 😟
Why does the bullet hole on the shade protrude out? You sure someone in the house didn't fire it? That is not an entry hole, with the force of a gunshot, that's an exit hole.
Inside - glass - shade - outside What am I missing?
That's an entry hole. It protrudes in, look again.
The dress is black and blue...
White and gold!
Hasn't happened yet...
lol. My life is boring as fuck when a bullet entering your home is "mildly interesting"
Hmm from the inside outwards.
Almost looks like the bullet came out of the house
Tell me you live in the USA withouth telling me you live in the USA.
Are there a lot of acorns in your neighborhood?
I would contact the police if I were you OP. It could be an unseen error on the part of someone nearby who is target practicing. When I was younger, me and my dad were shooting targets, and somehow a stray round managed to travel nearly a mile through trees and over a hill and hit someone's garage door. The police came, and the next day we met with the guy, and we worked it out. There were no charges or anything. We took better precautions after that to ensure safety.
Mildly terrifying
If the window is on the outside of the house, the exit hole looks like it is going out the house thru the shade not in. #ballistics
I would get the window replaced and move as soon as I could. That’s just me, though.
Beautiful USA😂😂😂😂 w Europe
Looks like it was shot from inside house
It looks like that bullet came from the inside
An acorn must've fallen on a cop car down the street.

That looks like it was shot from the inside of the house as the hole on the blinds flares towards the glass
