Stupid 2, who do they think they are? Sitting there between 1 and 3 thinking they are invincible just because they are the only even prime number and feeling mighty because they are responsible for gatekeeping like half the other numbers from being prime on their own. I hate 2.
See that’s perfect..
If you reacted like “huh, no shit?” that would make it too interesting for this sub and wouldn’t qualify.
But that monotone “hm”.
That’s it..
That’s why we’re here, that’s why this sub exists!
*Walks up dressed in an orderly uniform cracking his knuckles addressing the patient with a stern tone*
Sir...SIR...! MR IFuckDeadBirds we're going to need you to curb that enthusiasm, you know how easily agitated and overstimulated other patients in the unit are, some with medical conditions hearts couldn't handle the stress while others are prone to fits of violence, we'd hate for anyone to get hurt over a little excitement.
I just need you to Simmer down now and keep it mild. Remember what they taught you in group this week if it requires a ! It might be to spicy for your mild lifestyle.
It's exactly the type of thing that I would be excitedly gushing about, while my neurotypical friends are looking at me with a mix of pity and annoyance.
I beg to differ. Pray consider the only segment which was illuminated as part of the unary digit, which eschews the newly activated brightness of the rest of the succeeding value.
Great Litmus test for mildly interesting. Cause if it was really interesting your friends would come check it out, but this would not be worth the effort
Careful, if you post one more mildly interesting thing about this odometer it might push it to r/Damnthatsinteresting. Right now it is right in the pocket
Many (I'd even dare to say most) modern odometers just don't display any number until you reach that digit. So just before 100k miles it'd show as "99,999", not "099,999".
Top three cars I've personally seen go the distance is my brothers 01 Honda Civic, a friends Subaru Forester from the late 90s, and my friends Toyota corolla from around the same time as well.
All three of these cars averaged around high 200s with very minimal/standard repairs.
I've only owned cars from these three car manufacturers ever since
My parents gen 1 01 Prius did 278k before it went. No major repairs in that time.
So I bought myself a Prius in 2020. They are fucking amazing. I regularly get 50mpg plus. Sometimes 60.
2nd Gen Priuses are unbelievably reliable. Can pick them up for <$5k, minimal maintenance. Only major repair to worry about is the hybrid battery. Can get aftermarket ones for $1500 or so and they last 10-15 years.
My family has 3 of them. Best daily drivers ever built as far as value for money.
2001 Honda Odyssey got to 280,000 before I sold it due to it needing a lot of work, still mostly ran (the notorious transmission issues for that gen got it). My current daily is a 2014 accord, 245,000 and still going strong.
I'm assuming the battery *must* have been replaced by now! Hybrid vehicle workloads seem like they'd have to be *torture* for NiMH batteries, which like full charge-discharge cycles.
Or no?
NIMH batteries are actually capable of long life when handled with care.
Hybrid vehicles keep them between the 25% and 80% sweet spot since they don't *need* every last ounce of electricity like EVs.
Toyota NIMH hybrids are extremely long life vehicles.
Alas, poor Yaris! I knew it well. A car of infinite reliability, of most excellent compactness. It hath borne me on its back a thousand times.
For whatever reason, Macbeth popped into my head when you said, "Old Yaris", and I couldn't help myself.
Actually these Prius gauge clusters are known to fail after a certain time and the clusters themselves need to be replaced. Somewhat common on old/high mileage Priuses. The fact that OP's cluster is gradually dimming is indicative of this. Once the cluster fails, the ignition will be difficult to turn on and turn off. It will be hard to turn the car on, or even turn it off.
Source: am Toyota technician. Have replaced a good few of these
Yea I have a 30 year old car and the odometer is stopped at a bit over 242K. I think I can fix it with a gear but at this point why bother when I know when to change the oil and stuff by estimating and just trying to be a bit under than over.
Thank you :) I was actually really excited about it and I’m gonna go get her an oil change for her birthday. My other Toyota (my first car) had 350k miles *when I got it* so I’m hoping this one still has some juice left in her
I like it how much the explanation makes sense.. You can even see the part that was used to display the "1" is darker, since it was already in use for a long time
Noticed the same on a very old server. System LEDs were so dim, even the error ones.
Which is why it is on my desk today... Should have been replaced 10 years ago.
Congrats on your Gen 2 Prius. These supposedly can last for much longer or the battery or ABS module conk out. Mine was dead at 157k.
Still nothing to scoff at considering all it needed was oil change and tires and a set of brake pads.
You can see the section of the number that would be used in the 1 (the only section) is dimmer. so i would think the "bulbs" for the new sections beyond the 1 are not used enough and that's why it's brighter.
Ive got a "release year" logitech g502. It had blue lights, which have since turned greenish from 10 years of being on. All except the the third "mouse speed" indicator, because i have always kept it on 2. That one is still blue.
(I have tried a handful of ways to get a picture of this but all of them just look the same color on my camera)
Also mildly interesting fact. The triangle by the fuel gauge tells you which side the gas tank is on. It is on all vehicles, and can help when filling up a new or borrowed/rented car.
The thing is that this also probably means the car took way longer to go from 100000 to 200000 miles than it took from 000000 to 100000.
The top and bottom segments that are still bright would be lit up when displaying a 0 but not a 1, so this tiny thing tells us a lot about how the mileage was accumulated over the years.
This is indeed.. mildly interesting
That is mildly interesting.
First picture of an odometer that isn't just about some stupid number.
Tbf, BOOBS would have been too interesting for this sub.
I mean TECHNICALLY it’s about a stupid number; it’s just the number is 2. But I understand your point.
Stupid 2, who do they think they are? Sitting there between 1 and 3 thinking they are invincible just because they are the only even prime number and feeling mighty because they are responsible for gatekeeping like half the other numbers from being prime on their own. I hate 2.
I mean 3 is the only threeven prime number. And 5 is the only prime number divisible by 5. And so on
> threeven Absolutely not.
I'm sorry it appears as if it's already been did
2 is neat. 2+2 is 4, but is 2x2 and 2². Thats kinda cool.
I think you dropped this: "so".
It's about the number 2
I made an audible "hm". Certified mildly interesting.
See that’s perfect.. If you reacted like “huh, no shit?” that would make it too interesting for this sub and wouldn’t qualify. But that monotone “hm”. That’s it.. That’s why we’re here, that’s why this sub exists!

Highest praise in this sub.
I almost forgot what that was like in this sub.
Also mildy infuriating
I cannot imagine anything that embodies mild more than this
Wow, this is the most mildly interesting post I've seen on here, honestly
Might be a little too interesting for mild even
At first I felt like that too, but the more I reflected on it the milder it seemed. This is indeed the epitome of mildly interesting things.
Indeed, the fact that it is the epitome of mildly interesting, is in itself interesting.
fuck
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interesting_number_paradox
But only mildly so.
It's exactly the type of thing that I would be excitedly gushing about, while my neurotypical friends are looking at me with a mix of pity and annoyance.
Yes, I am totally beige-d out by this post
I beg to differ. Pray consider the only segment which was illuminated as part of the unary digit, which eschews the newly activated brightness of the rest of the succeeding value.
You would think so but would his friends care? Would they all take turns looking at them?
Great Litmus test for mildly interesting. Cause if it was really interesting your friends would come check it out, but this would not be worth the effort
Do we need a r/perfectlyfitsthesub? Seems a lot of people get a kick out of gauging how accurate “mildly” content is in their respective groups.
You can also see where the “1” used to be it’s darker :)
I saw that too!
I saw that 2!
r/expectedfactorial
You saw that 2? Nevermind too small of a factorial for it to be fun :(
I saw that 6
Yes, it's brighter
Careful, if you post one more mildly interesting thing about this odometer it might push it to r/Damnthatsinteresting. Right now it is right in the pocket
That's super cool. You'll have to get it up to 4 to have it happen again
And then it will never happen again :(
Wouldn't the 0 had been there before, which overlaps much of the 2?
Many (I'd even dare to say most) modern odometers just don't display any number until you reach that digit. So just before 100k miles it'd show as "99,999", not "099,999".
This aspect is pushing up the level of "interesting" in this post. Be careful.
That’s how my Prius was when I broke 99mph. That was 1 was so bright.
lol they’re not meant to go that fast!
“Why do my diodes hurt?” “Because you’ve never used them before”
All down the left side too.
The first ten thousand years... they were the worst.
"Woah"
This looks kinda like a VFD and not an LED array
Triode would be more appropriate since it's a VFD
Neo: “Why does my penis hurt” Bisexual Morpheus taking backshots: “Because you’re using it for the first time”
+2
+2 dipped in mama Liz's chili oil
+2 nl on frontpage?!
I'm pegged up
I got that reference.
Old Yaris?
Lmao Prius
I used to have one. Immediately knew.
Top three cars I've personally seen go the distance is my brothers 01 Honda Civic, a friends Subaru Forester from the late 90s, and my friends Toyota corolla from around the same time as well. My parents gen 1 01 Prius did 278k before it went. No major repairs in that time. So I bought myself a Prius in 2020. They are fucking amazing. I regularly get 50mpg plus. Sometimes 60.
How did the car die at 278k?
So close to the lucky number! The ODO stops counting at 299,999
2nd Gen Priuses are unbelievably reliable. Can pick them up for <$5k, minimal maintenance. Only major repair to worry about is the hybrid battery. Can get aftermarket ones for $1500 or so and they last 10-15 years. My family has 3 of them. Best daily drivers ever built as far as value for money.
276k on my 11 ford edge. proper maintenance and almost any vehicle is highly reliable
2001 Honda Odyssey got to 280,000 before I sold it due to it needing a lot of work, still mostly ran (the notorious transmission issues for that gen got it). My current daily is a 2014 accord, 245,000 and still going strong.
I knew it. A fellow person of class and taste. My 2008 is at ~185k right now. Can't wait to get to 200k. Congratulations.
Got to 230,000 in my 08 Prius before getting tboned by a guy in a truck who ran a red light a few months ago. Super sad
I'm assuming the battery *must* have been replaced by now! Hybrid vehicle workloads seem like they'd have to be *torture* for NiMH batteries, which like full charge-discharge cycles. Or no?

Prius batteries are dirt cheap to replace and a DIY job. Talking under $2K for an entire new set of cells.
Old? At 200k it's not even middle age.
I miss my old Yaris. Best car I've ever had.
Alas, poor Yaris! I knew it well. A car of infinite reliability, of most excellent compactness. It hath borne me on its back a thousand times. For whatever reason, Macbeth popped into my head when you said, "Old Yaris", and I couldn't help myself.
It'll happen again to one segment at 400,000
That's pretty optimistic
It is a Toyota, so as long as OP takes care of it, it can go that far.
Have replaced a good few of these
I mean at 200,000+ miles Im not surprised it would need some pieces replaced to keep working.
Yea I have a 30 year old car and the odometer is stopped at a bit over 242K. I think I can fix it with a gear but at this point why bother when I know when to change the oil and stuff by estimating and just trying to be a bit under than over.
Yeah lol this one failed around 180k, I ripped it out and replaced the capacitor myself and so far so good
I hope OP gives us an update once it happens 🤞
!remindme 20 years
And everything else will be much dimmer, but most of the digits to the right even moreso.
So it's an odd-o-meter now
Not once they go another mile.
Nah, 2 is even.
Odd as in strange
This post made me slightly raise my eyebrows. Very mildly interesting!
Now that is exactly the kind of mild entertainment i'm here for.
Congrats on hitting 200K miles!
He would easily walk 500 more!
Thank you :) I was actually really excited about it and I’m gonna go get her an oil change for her birthday. My other Toyota (my first car) had 350k miles *when I got it* so I’m hoping this one still has some juice left in her
If you scroll your dash brightness all the way up and down a couple times, does it line these up with the brightness of the rest??
You'd think specifically the dash in the 2 would also be slightly brighter considering it was a "0" before a "1" for about 100,000 miles.
The digit probably just wasn’t used at all, I’d guess.

Environmentally-conscious lower-middle class commuters REPRESENT
Just like my wife.
https://youtu.be/PkPSDOjhxwM?feature=shared ^also mildly interesting
the lights are still fresh on that part lol
That Toyota just saw its value increasea
I like it how much the explanation makes sense.. You can even see the part that was used to display the "1" is darker, since it was already in use for a long time
Heh...2 never being turned on. There's a boomer wife joke.
Ahhh, somebody drives a Gen 2 Prius!
This is why I’m in this sub
Noticed the same on a very old server. System LEDs were so dim, even the error ones. Which is why it is on my desk today... Should have been replaced 10 years ago.
Looks like a VFD from the 1990s. How old is it?
It's like Neo in the Matrix, only like, with LED's.
I would assume it has been used, normally the dash lights up everything on self-check/start. Double check the next time you go to start your car.
Spend more time on fore play
[But OP, there’s no such thing as 2.](https://youtu.be/s5oM5AGnJfo?si=Qz0HForuUvWe4Nn9)
"slightly", brother, I can't operate the vehicle like this
Yeah, that's one of those things, like if I'd get into your car and see this, I'd go "Huh."
Vacuum Fluorescent Displays are cool.
You should definitely repost this at 242069 miles and 280085 miles
You said it yourself. The 2 is "turned on".
Is that also why your wife is bright?
I wonder if the last dots of the fuel gauge are slightly brighter too.
Still has more photons left. =)
Don't worry, just ride another 100k miles and it will be the same as other numbers.
The perfect mild - love it lol
By the time you get to the three hundos it will look normal again.
This post is this subs spirit animal and perfectly captures what all post should be.
The nerdy question is whether that's an LCD or a VFD (Vacuum florescent display).
I think it has to be a VFD; the phosphor in VFD segments do fade with use. I don't think LCD segments do that... do they?
This is the very epitome of mildly interesting!
You should cross post this over on /r/prius
This is as much as a failure you get on a Prius... :)
Would annoy the hell outta me!
Freshman vs. Seniors on 1st day of a new semester
What car is this?
Wasn’t it a 0 before it turned into 1?
So your vehicle doesn’t have that “turn on all lights” feature upon startup to make sure they all work? Hmm. Odd.
It will be another 200,000 miles before they've all been lit.
you need to switch this to KM and KM/H for the full effect !
Sounds like my honeymoon
.....the "countdown", has begun. Good luck.
think of all the savings if we used 6 segments for the first digit! who is going to get to 400k miles?
very mildly interesting.
Now that is very mildly interesting. The exact kind of thing I come here for.
I came here to say get gas please. Then I saw that it was a Prius. You have at least another 200 miles.
Post again when you get to 4.
Blow in its ear. You can turn it on better that way.
Do 4 next time
had*
I'm glad a Gen 2 Prius can still find its way onto other subs
Most of that should have been on for the first 100k miles.
miledly interesting
2006 Prius?
Wait till you get to 400 k
Congrats on your Gen 2 Prius. These supposedly can last for much longer or the battery or ABS module conk out. Mine was dead at 157k. Still nothing to scoff at considering all it needed was oil change and tires and a set of brake pads.
2009 Prius?
RemindMe! 10 years
![gif](giphy|MIlx72MOfloYg|downsized)
Your wife must be glowing brighter than Rudolph's nose
Wait untill there is a \[4\] ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)
more like r/mildlyinfuriating
Dude what car is that? That whole dash area looks really cool lol.
And now I'm wondering if my '98 BMW even has a 2 for the 100k digit and if yes, will it look the same but in orange?
You can see the section of the number that would be used in the 1 (the only section) is dimmer. so i would think the "bulbs" for the new sections beyond the 1 are not used enough and that's why it's brighter.
lol this is kinda cute for some reasons
posy
~~Do you drive a hybrid Toyota? Possibly a Prius?~~ The font in your picture looks familiar. OP has confirmed this is the case.
So the 1 was slightly brighter than the rest when it first turned on
Would it not have been lit up for the 0XXXXX miles or does it not display leading zeros
Great job, this post should be linked in the sidebar.
Also mildly interesting fact. The triangle by the fuel gauge tells you which side the gas tank is on. It is on all vehicles, and can help when filling up a new or borrowed/rented car.
Oh. Interesting.
Oh man, now youve gotta hold out until 400k miles to see a super bright top left vertical line
Congrats on the 200k Prius. Mine has 337k 🤟🏼
Lovely stuff
Gen 2 prius gang! 231k and going strong on my 07.
That bottom right segment on the last digit is like "my time has come; and now I rest"
I must see the 4. Keep this car!
This is what I come here for, well done
I didn’t see in the comments, what kind of car is it?
This is a prius huh? I had the same dash with 300k miles!
Gen 1 Prius? Nice👍
I had the same issue on my Prius after it got to the 4.
Get that fixed under warranty
that's cool
