I worked in the facilities department at a building with about 8 escalators. I've seen kids get their whole shoe with the foot get pulled into the side. There are sensors to stop the machine . All I can say is don't fuck around when your on an escalator they will fuck you the fuck up
Listen, not a year goes by, not a year, that I don't hear about some escalator accident involving some bastard kid which could have easily been avoided had some parent - I don't care which one - but some parent conditioned him to fear and respect that escalator.
I was playing in an old Eastern airlines wing in 1990 that was unused. My brother and I had those miniature hockey sticks and a bouncy ball and were shwacking it around as there was nobody in the hanger... I was chasing a bouncy ball when my shoelace got stuck in the elevator. I have no idea where my parents where at the time but I do know my dad was involved in the union strike of airline pilots.
I saw footage of a kid about four or five wandering a mall. 15 ft behind him was a 2-year-old or so and the 5-year-old went down the escalator, but the 2-year-old was more interested in the moving railing. So he put his hands on it and grabbed on and took a ride and went boom to the floor below. I hope the parents went to jail.

I have never seen an escalator irl where this would be possible since the teeth on all ours go down into the grooves so there's nothing above it to grab onto things and wedge them down, this looks like a fuckin stupid design

About 20+yrs ago I saw a toddler in a push chair get their shoe/foot stuck in an escalator, still fucking haunts me to this day

Worked with an escalator installer. He said he wouldn’t let his own children ride one. He had to pull too many bones out of them.
