Is it steel? I broke my leg in November and got titanium plates. At my last check, the PA casually remarked that sometimes the screws start working themselves out and have to be retightened.
I was so gobsmacked I didn't think to ask any follow up questions about it. At my next check, I sure will.
Doesn't bone and titanium kinda meld together?
>Osseointegration (from Latin osseus "bony" and integrare "to make whole") is the direct structural and functional connection between living bone and the surface of a load-bearing artificial implant ("load-bearing" as defined by Albrektsson et al. in 1981).
Sounds kinda like bone sort of grabs onto the metal surface, not saying they can come loose but using titanium sounds similar to using nyloc nuts.
It's always some sort of titanium/alloy, so it doesn't corrode
The screws might have been pushed out by your healing bone? Definitely have them explain some of it
Stainless steel doesn't corrode in vitro either. The reason for the prefered use of titanium is that titanium is more flexible and induces better post-operative bone growth.
Titatium is also incredibly well biologically tolerated.
The PA didn't say it had happened to me, only that it could, perhaps sometime down the road was what I gathered. I will definitely get that clarified at my next appointment.
Thank you! I'm over a year on now from the actual accident, a plumber hut me with his van while I was filtering. He slammed on brakes and swung in front of me too quick for me to stop. I was only going 25mph ish but the 25 to dead stop is what broke the bone, literally zero other injuries, my bike trousers melted slightly due to the friction of the impact but nothing else hurt at all. The worst of the experience was feeling absolutely disgustingly ill because of the amount of morphine they gave me, had fentanyl for the surgery and felt fine. I was under for 3 hours and went home an hour after waking up
just took shoes off like normal and walked thru. they had the fancy scanner that basically can see your intestines. I just warned them ahead of time. I was in ankle socks tho, so my scar was easily visible.
Distal Fibula break
tripped on the ground. landlord let their be shitty landscaping and I hit a dip and just fell right on it. Luckily I was right by the entrance. I had just done leg day too -.-
I wonder how people reacted when the first person proclaimed "I know what we can do... We can put a metal plate in there and screw it into the bone", was everyone like "great idea!" or "... Dude, what?"
Hey! Sorry for a tangent -- our pup has a very similar screwed steel plate after TPLO surgery (they cut through and reset the bone to change the knee angle) and one of my concerns is her long term comfort. Do you find the plate more or less unnoticeable in movement, or experience any discomfort due to its presence?
I don't wear backpacks anymore. Nor do seatbelts feel good. Where they had to cut went through a nerve so I have a fair bit of skin with less feeling now than it had before but in general I rarely notice it on the day to day, I have the same strength as before and only large amounts of pressure applied which pushes skin onto the edge of the plate is uncomfortable. To give you context for the strength; my job is to remove and install furniture into people's houses and I can still lift full sized wardrobes and sofas above my head to go up stairs. I hope your dog recovers well and has a great life
I remember my shoulders meeting in the middle, its the last thing I remember before waking up in intensive care. no scaffolding for me. I just have really odd large gaps at the end my collarbones that doctors always remark on.
It was fucked, they left me with an arm that didn't work for 2 weeks before I was booked in for surgery, the shard was stabbing the underside of my skin and my whole shoulder as well as half my chest bruised up
I crave the strength and certainty of steel.
I aspire to the purity of the blessed machine.
FLESH IS WEAK!
due to having a reinforced collarbone you’ve been voted amongst co-workers to be the one to carry the Iron Coffin to fuel the ship *reinforced*

It should be titanium with screws that have serrated teeth so the bone can grip better
That reminds me, I need to grab some screws when I head to Home Depot...
That actually reminds me I also need to do that, I can't reuse the ones I have
Yea these are a little expensive
Mine were free! I just had to pay £10 for the painkillers that I took home with me
Now tell people its actually a bigass parasite feasting on your bones
Did you know it's actually a big ass parasite feasting on my bones?/j You can see it through the skin, too when I move in certain ways
Ever watch *Stargate SG1* ?
How my whole spine looks 😣
How did that happen?
A spinal fusion to correct scoliosis
Screw you (tightly)
At least I've not screwed myself
Damn, hope you'll be fine. A couple of my family members had bike accidents and they're not fun
I'm sorry that some of your family members aren't fun
That's... debatable xD

At least you're alive. Could've been worse
If I hadn't bought some aftermarket crash bars I'd have lost a leg so it could have been all sorts of worse
i have 9 screws in my ankle. i was terrified going thru tsa, like i was gonna set something off
Well if you did at least you'd only need to take a shoe and sock off then roll up your trousers. How did you do yours?

Ooh painful, what happened to get it broken?
tripped on the ground. landlord let their be shitty landscaping and I hit a dip and just fell right on it. Luckily I was right by the entrance. I had just done leg day too -.-
That's horrible. It definitely was leg day
Didn't your hospital give you and implant pass? And why won't you get it removed? I'll get rid of mine after 1.5 years.
In the surgery room: *bang bang bang* "and STAY THERE!!!"
Very very similar to by broken humerus :)

"We need to secure these bones somehow. Stephenson! Hand me that bronze age comb we found the other day!"
Bring out the power drill!!
I remember my shoulders meeting in the middle, its the last thing I remember before waking up in intensive care. no scaffolding for me. I just have really odd large gaps at the end my collarbones that doctors always remark on.
The very idea of that makes me cringe! I hope you're doing much better now
What it looked like before the screws and plate [link](https://imgur.com/gallery/jAwF4yr)
Not a doctor but, yeah, that looks pretty fucked.
It was fucked, they left me with an arm that didn't work for 2 weeks before I was booked in for surgery, the shard was stabbing the underside of my skin and my whole shoulder as well as half my chest bruised up
Mine looks very similar. Fell out of a tree. The broken collar bone hurt the least out of all out my injuries.
Did you at least get revenge on the tree?
Nah. Was my own stupid fault.
That's a shame
Mine looks the same
Does this make you a cyborg
Is the airport fun

Do you mean an mri? This is an x-ray that I posted. There won't be any issue anyway as the plate and screws are titanium which is non magnetic
It's a parasite.
A big ass one feasting on my bones
