I accidentally snapped a scalpel tip, and it ricocheted back into my eye. Not 15 years, though. Basically, it went blurry blind. After 6 months on a waiting list, I received cataract surgery where they implanted a new lens.
It's in there for good. 😉
It wasn’t 15 years, but…
Wife and I went to a woman’s apartment to interview her (nanny). Later that day, our 9-10mo old developed a cough. The next day, he’s coughing, and couldn’t swallow any solids. Sometimes, his cough was followed by gagging. We scheduled an appointment, but our usual Pediatrician was out of the office on Maternal leave (I feel like she would have taken this more seriously from day 1). He was diagnosed with a throat infection. This persisted, spread to his ears. He wasn’t eating well, wasn’t sleeping well, losing weight. We took him to several Pediatricians, a couple visits to the hospital, no real answers, just “this will pass”. 6 weeks from the onset, he’s coughing and gagging at 3am. We both are fed up, want something to be done, we know “there is something more here”. Drive to the ER, same bs “diagnosis”, but we insist on X-ray/MRI/etc…
There was a penny stuck in his throat. He must have found it while crawling around on that woman’s floor. It started immediately after that visit/interview. They showed us the coin after it was removed, it was jet black.
*What if it had shifted in his throat, blocking his airway?* Still sits in the back of my mind to this day.
The r/radiology sub had to make a rule limiting the amount of stuff inserted in anus posts. I think k foreign objects stuck in the body is pretty common lmao
If it doesn't need to be 15 years, I had granular glass in my eyelids after a triple rollover car accident (ironically the only injury of the accident). Docs cotton swabbed it out and said there may still be some embeded that could come out in time.
You probably shoved it up your nose as a toddler, like most toddlers do, but no one saw and you weren’t too bothered by it so it was missed. Glad you finally got relief!!!
God yeah, wasn’t that the case where there was discussions about a malpractice case against the doctor, because he’d missed the crayon in dozens of X-rays due to how he held the X-ray?
He's joking about the fact that it's a real "story" (not that it's a true story). See comment below: [https://www.reddit.com/r/mildyinteresting/comments/1duwjoa/comment/lblr668/](https://www.reddit.com/r/mildyinteresting/comments/1duwjoa/comment/lblr668/) :)
Can confirm. As a toddler I shoved a lucky charm marshmallow up my nose and could not get it out. Not wanting to get yelled at, I went to bed with the mallow in my nose.
My brother was bad with this. He stuck popcorn kernels up his nose and one of those little slinkies you get out of a quarter machine.
He also swallowed a 1/2" nightlight light bulb.
...so many doctors visits...
Same with a cooked pea in my ear. It eventually rotted and began to have an odor ,and my kindergarten class lined up single file to sniff it. They couldn't add it to the "ear nose and throat" hall of fame at my doc though, because it was a food item. They had a collection of little nose and ear toys. My brother did the same thing with a skittle in his nose. That doctor knew us by name.
Me looking at my toddler like 😐 and thinking “please don’t put random things in random places” - thankfully every time the doctor looks in his ears and nose it all looks “perfect” he says! But yeah, new parenting fear unlocked because you think about choke hazards, not nose or ear hazards like this… 😂😐🥲
Part of my family are weird people from the forest but they have better success ratio than clinic from my insurance, lol. My aunt fixed a guy who was scheduled for leg amputation.
Which is why you do an x-ray before any magnetic imagery to be safe, especially for head and torso. WTF. It takes far cheaper equipment and 5min of taking and producing the image. Ffs where are you OP? MURICA?
If I had a nickel for every person who had something stuck in them over decades I had two nickels. Which isn’t much but it’s weird It happened twice today and I’m only awake like a hour.
I had to have an X-ray before I had an MRI but only bc I have a history of metalwork. If I didn't have that occupational history they wouldn't have bothered with the X-ray
The most frustrating thing is that I had so many doctors look at my scans and no one was able to notice the object until I insisted in having the septoplasty
When I was little, I put pistachio shells in my nose and had fun expelling them like a gun except that one got stuck and I forgot about it for several years, one day I blew my nose very hard and the thing came out suddenly, liberation, I was able to breathe normally, I told this to my mother who didn't believe me so I dropped the matter.
When I was in college, I slowly lost all hearing in one of my ears for several weeks. I eventually went to the doctor, who found it was plugged solid with earwax. After getting the earwax out, I was showering the next morning, and I could literally hear the water drops from the shower \*exploding\* as they hit the floor. It was so loud it was painful XD
Anyway, ya, just saying I can definitely understand that feeling of relief, haha XD
I've got a deviated septum and chronic mucus too, for many years. I suspect I'll need your same surgery eventually, but doctors haven't suggested it yet... How was the surgery? Pain level? Annoyances? I'm scared lol
Edit: if you have (or have had) a partner during this time, did they ever mention your breath having a metallic smell or sth?
Initially they never recommended surgery because they said it might not fix the issue, this doctor also didn’t know I had an object in my nose. After begging them to send me to a surgeon, that’s when I found out about the object. The surgery got rid of the smell immediately and my breathing has been amazing ever since.
Exes have definitely noticed the smell when kissing me, I always had to do a sinus rinse because I was afraid they were able to smell my nose. Recover from surgery was brutal, took about 4 weeks to recover but it was SO worth it. Definitely encourage you to have the surgery even if they say it may not work…
Thanks for your sharing your experience. I think I'll do an MRI/CT scan first and have some more medical opinions. But yeah, I feel like there's sth wrong going on with me too... damn... Surgery might be the only solution at this point
I had a deviated septum fixed a few years ago - very little postoperative pain, although I did have nose bleeds for about a month. I think the worst thing was having the packs taken out!
Airport sensors aren’t sensitive enough to pick up small amounts of metal.
I have a metal plate a few inches long in my arm that’s never set any metal detector off, so a piece like this is never going to ping.
If you’re just making a joke then ignore me I just think this stuff is interesting.
rusty ass metal lodged deep in there n nothing but some bad smelling mucus happened? I'd think a huge infection that would lead to no nose because of rust would happen, but I'm no doctor.
I put a plastic berry from a Christmas decoration in my ear when I was 5. Forgot about it and it stayed in there until I was 16 and a doc noticed it in a physical. As soon as the ear doc removed it and said it was plastic the memory of putting it in and panicking but not telling anyone came rushing back and I knew exactly what it was. Never caused any issues with my hearing.
i’m so fucking jealous of you because i also have chronic rhinosinusitis and i can’t breathe rn but it’s caused by my autoimmune system instead 🥲 id love to have a little piece of metal in my face causing it
edit: i realized this sounds like i am minimizing your situation which was not my intention! i think i am just jealous of the relief you have found, and not of the situation prior to that 🫡
Has noone in your surroundings ever heard of this brand new technology called X-ray, that is able to produce images of the human body making soft tissue almost disappear, clearly showing bone structure and absolutely clear as hell metallic objects? No dentist ever did an x-ray of your head to check on the status of your gums? WTF
https://preview.redd.it/nyias14v7iad1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c2927c01f34d981777fb2129aea2146e85641c4e
This is the amazing surgeon who actually noticed something weird in my X-ray, the red circle was the piece of metal… blows me away how three other doctors saw my X-ray and no won’t pointed this out
This sub has an unusually high occurrence of people having foreign objects removed from their heads after 15 years, recently.

if i had a nickel everytime i see some object stuck inside a human head for 15 years, i would have two nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice

Came here to say this. Ears, nose ... Now we need eyes and throat
Next post: *Someone has a thing stuck inside their dick for 15 years*
Im not ready to post it
Because it's still in there?...
Still got 3 more years to get to 15.
It still has to cook
I believe it's spelled "cock".
Checks out; last time I cocked a lasagna it turned out similar to a cooked one. Especially if you use the banquet one.
It’s brewing . Or it’s being cooked the tandoori method
Let me use your oven.
Why are there no !remindme 3 years

Nice
I'm not ready to see it
I honestly thought that was where the eraser post was going because it said “stuck in my head”.
That eraser could still just be an impacted booger.
Still could
Worked in ER. Dude came in and had shoved a pen up his dick and was hitting his prostate. Not 15 years, but still….
Had this dick in my throat for 15 years!
Off and on.
Or someone has their dick stuck inside something for 15 years
Holy hell, my boss's father has a story about a tick I think you'll love!
I accidentally snapped a scalpel tip, and it ricocheted back into my eye. Not 15 years, though. Basically, it went blurry blind. After 6 months on a waiting list, I received cataract surgery where they implanted a new lens. It's in there for good. 😉
And this folks is why you wear safety glasses like eyePro.
all the best to You and please make sure You have it taken out after exactly 15 yrs. And post about it!
It wasn’t 15 years, but… Wife and I went to a woman’s apartment to interview her (nanny). Later that day, our 9-10mo old developed a cough. Wow
I love playing "Random items stuck places they shouldn't be for 15 years BINGO!"
The r/radiology sub had to make a rule limiting the amount of stuff inserted in anus posts. I think k foreign objects stuck in the body is pretty common lmao
Well, not to toot my own horn, but i’ve had these two eyeballs stuck in my skull for 20 years
but what about head and shoulders knees and toes?
Thank you! I don't feel like a dork now.
Same!
We already saw that lady with all the contact lenses in her eye lol
If it doesn't need to be 15 years, I had granular glass in my eyelids after a triple rollover car accident (ironically the only injury of the accident). Docs cotton swabbed it out and said there may still be some embeded that could come out in time.
Ouch, sounds painful!
My dad was in a car accident 9 years ago and still to this day has glass work its way out of his neck and head every once in a while.
Let's just hope no one reports a hamster
It’s a gerbil
My wife has been up my ass for about 10 years now..
Head shoulders knees and toes.
Head shoulders knees and toes
And ass
>If I had a nickel I have one, I just pulled it out from behind my eyeball. I think it’s been there about 15 years.
The first post will hopefully bring everyone with stuff stuck in their heads out of the woodwork and we’ll get to see a ton of weird shit
I am waiting for "I had a head stuck in my head"
Ear guy inspired this post
I'd only have 10 cents but it's weird that it happened twice
I can’t believe I had to scroll so far for this comment
Exactly. Now I am afraid .
Hopefully the nickel isn’t stuck in your head
You'd have 10 cents?
but that’s zinc /s
Maybe they are brothers
Go check at the doctor, your nickel might be stuck somewhere in your body for 15 years already
You probably shoved it up your nose as a toddler, like most toddlers do, but no one saw and you weren’t too bothered by it so it was missed. Glad you finally got relief!!!
but a CENTIMETER long up a toddler's nose?! i know they're bonkers at that age but that's a tough thing to nose up
They were a determined child.
I know a guy who shoved a crayon up his nose and it was jammed in his brain until he was in his late 30s
I heard one time he got it out and he hated it so much he shoved it back in
Homer?
Either him or Donald Trump!
God yeah, wasn’t that the case where there was discussions about a malpractice case against the doctor, because he’d missed the crayon in dozens of X-rays due to how he held the X-ray?
Yeah, I think he just laughed it off though SMH
I hate that I googled thar, expecting this story to be real
It is a really story
Do you have any sources? Google only shows me homer
Was he a marine?
Why you guys stuck things into yourself i dont get it
Can confirm.
An entire little slinky? O\_O
Yeah. That one was especially awful. I sat out in the waiting room and cried because I heard him screaming while they got it out.
That doctor knew us by name.
vile. I hope you're still good with your doc
I didn’t read the lucky charm part and was wondering how you fit an ENTIRE marshmallow in your tiny baby nose
Me looking at my toddler like 😐 and thinking “please don’t put random things in random places” - thankfully every time the doctor looks in his ears and nose it all looks “perfect” he says! But yeah, new parenting fear unlocked because you think about choke hazards, not nose or ear hazards like this… 😂😐🥲
what happened 15 years ago that people are randomly finding imbedded object in their body today?
Idk if you live in the US but if you don’t have insurance and you’re poor, you keep it to yourself lol
"hey Jimmy.... is that a hammer wedged in your skull?" "we do not speak of this"
https://i.redd.it/5fqimoarpgad1.gif I never knew this guy was inspired by the American healthcare system.
Part of my family are weird people from the forest but they have better success ratio than clinic from my insurance, lol. My aunt fixed a guy who was scheduled for leg amputation.
I saw a dude with a dart stuck in his skull in here once
2009 happened 15 years ago
SHUT UP!
thank you Doctor Math
I'm down voting because it hurts. Then I upvoted because fuck me...

4th of July!
Wait did they do a CT or an mri because it feels like you're very lucky not to have that ripped from your face with an mri. Also banana for scale?
Which is why you do an x-ray before any magnetic imagery to be safe, especially for head and torso. WTF. It takes far cheaper equipment and 5min of taking and producing the image. Ffs where are you OP? MURICA?
American (in the poorest state). They always do an xray before any other tests here. This person was just misinformed.
Brazilian here, did plenty of MRI scans without any x-ray done first
Judging from OP’s comment and post activity they are in Canada
![gif](giphy|B2Rojmkel8EcE)
Yeah. Glad they didn't find out about it during mri.
Have you been probed by Aliens prior to this?
![gif](giphy|13ZHjidRzoi7n2)
We really need House, but as a witch doctor.
I'd watch (witch) the fuck outta that
You put the lime in the coconut…
It could be shadow folk waiting for him to ripen for harvest
No it's 5G sim card. Bill Gates was conducting research. Nowadays it's in the vaccine. /s
You snorted the Forbidden Dorito and forgot all about it
Came here for Dorito joke, glad I was not disappointed
If I had a nickel for every person who had something stuck in them over decades I had two nickels. Which isn’t much but it’s weird It happened twice today and I’m only awake like a hour.
Wow how did you manage the MRI and not get that thing sucked into the giant magnet??
Not all metal types are magnetic. Still sounds strange that no x-ray done before or not found if it was done.

This is one thing where AI Is going to help a lot, IMO. I'm honestly really looking forward to it! :)
Did you also have an eraser in your ear?
When I was little, I put pistachio shells in my nose and had fun expelling them like a gun except that one got stuck and I forgot about it for several years, one day I blew my nose very hard and the thing came out suddenly, liberation, I was able to breathe normally, I told this to my mother who didn't believe me so I dropped the matter.

turn it into a necklace
Actually this is a pretty cool idea. Would be very personal and unique. Hope he at least saved the piece!

New fear unlocked: Having a foreign object anywhere in my body.
Any relation to the eraser-in-ear guy?
![gif](giphy|6IObmS5R0VGPC) Metalhead

I’m looking forward to your post about doctors pulling foreign material from your nose that had been up there for 15 years.
I had a deviated septum fixed a few years ago - very little postoperative pain, although I did have nose bleeds for about a month. I think the worst thing was having the packs taken out!
How did you get through Airport Security with that thing?
Airport sensors aren’t sensitive enough to pick up small amounts of metal. I have a metal plate a few inches long in my arm that’s never set any metal detector off, so a piece like this is never going to ping. If you’re just making a joke then ignore me I just think this stuff is interesting.
Thanks! I was genuinely curious! I find this stuff interesting too :D
It really depends on what kind of metal it was. Tons of people have artificial joints and are going through airport security without a single ping.
How do y'all manage to get stuff stuck in those parts of our body and decide to forget about it completely???
Tiniest bit of pollen or dust and my sinus system throws a rebellion but these people are sticking whole quarters up there and are just fine
I was about to ask the same thing💀
Did it burn you during the MRI scan?
How the hell did the ct and mri not pick that up
New fear unlocked. I keep sneezing for no reason, what if instead of having an allergy I have something stuck in my sinus without me knowing?
Some people sneeze when looking at bright lights or sun. If it is not the case allergy testing can be done via blood test
You have no clue how it got there? Clearly you were the first person to fall asleep at the sleepover.
![gif](giphy|3oEjI789af0AVurF60)
Wait, MRI? Wouldn't this lead to some very sad results?
Did you have an eraser in one of your ears?
You snort the powder not the razor blade!?
rusty ass metal lodged deep in there n nothing but some bad smelling mucus happened? I'd think a huge infection that would lead to no nose because of rust would happen, but I'm no doctor.

One question. HOW DO YOU FOUND IT?
What would happen if you went to mri with this thing inside you?
Not all metals are magnetic so if it’s something like copper or aluminum it would just be chillin there during an mri
WTF

Wow, that does seem pretty obvious O.o Were the doctors all looking at the same X-ray, or did they do separate X-rays each time?
Did you lose an eraser trying to get it out 15 years ago?

Imagine taking a MRI without knowing.
Looks like one of those alien implants. If you didn’t post this, you could have passed it off as an abduction story and made some money!!

Be glad you didn't need to get an MRI
![gif](giphy|3o6MbnvuZWdgL2JI88) you now
You are so lucky that wasn’t ripped right out of your face hole during the MRI…
I don't think that's metal. Otherwise you'd have noticed it during the MRI...
Aluminum
So how didn't the MRI diagnose and...ahem..."cure" it at the same time?
I'd guess it was non-ferrous metal.
Lucky you didn't have a MRI!!!
do you still have it? can you post more pics of the object (maybe after cleaning it)
Forbidden Dorito

Forbidden Dorito.
wtf?!? Erasers, metal chunks. What else will somebody find was lodged in their body for 15 yrs without knowing?
This is making my nose hurt
I'm surprised that it didn't fly out of your nose when you went to get an MRI
Had a broken piece of a dental file stuck in my gums for nearly 20 years after a root canal. I feel ya.
Man is breathing in 4k now
If you didn't know it was in there how do you know it was 15 years?
You're asking the real questions here
This sub has an unusually high occurrence of people having foreign objects removed from their heads after 15 years, recently. https://www.reddit.com/r/mildyinteresting/comments/1dusj65/i_had_an_eraser_in_my_head_for_15_years/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
wtf put it back
So you haven’t taken a flight in 15years?
Happy you didn't have an MRI during those 15 years
Aliens? Aka the little green men, abduct you?
How do you know you've had it for 15 years if you just found out about it? 🤔
Man, how did that thing come and go stuck into your body?
That's an E.T implant🤫.
Pity it wasn’t a gold nugget instead.
Now, this is permanently stuck in my head
Would you describe the smell as like a "dead things" type of sickly smell?
if i had a nickel everytime i see some object stuck inside a human head for 15 years, i would have two nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice
Every time I see this sub now it’s some bodily thing..
I’m guessing you’ve never had an MRI before this? That’s really lucky, otherwise that shard could have easily damaged your head!
How’d you manage this one?
Are you FUCKING KIDDING ME HOW THE FUCK SRE YOU EVEN ALIVE HOW JUST HOW. (yall cant tell me god doesnt have favorites bro.)
I wonder if it’s the same person.Just bad luck, again after 15 years.
