Will do!
Edit to update:
First off big thanks from me to all you kind redditors for confirming that the hobby side of Reddit is such an awesome place full of awesome people.
The whole family had not heard of Reddit. *This* was their introduction. The parents are super proud of their son, and the kiddo is overwhelmed at the support and encouragement. He’s been massively energized by the feedback, thanks you all, and has many more ideas he wants to try out. And yes, he wore goggles and gloves while handling the epoxy resin.
I told them that so far the post has garnered 133,000 views. If all the viewers were passengers and crew, it would take 41 Titanics to hold them all.
I’ve given mom directions to the local hobby shop that has thousands of model kits in stock. I’ll provide her with a shopping list of quality model glue, snips, files, paint, brushes etc. Rest assured his hobby skills will be nurtured.
awesome
they may want to get a UV resistant gloss varnish and spray down the epoxy, I really have no experience with the stuff besides a friend did something like this and the clear epoxy turned very yellow after a year or so which I assume was from UV
> Probably worth cutting into flat surfaces too and planing and wet sanding to get super clear finish.
My initial thought too, but I kind of liked the "warped" view in this example. Really makes it seem like you're looking through water.
I think that’s because they used a tupperware container to hold the resin… You can see the markings on the bottom and the side from the container it sat in.
That kid has a fantastic eye for color and if they’re this good without the “right” materials, they’ll make some incredible stuff if they keep growing that skill!
This is a great example of what composition can do for a model, especially a diorama. This piece has a very simple color pallet, but because the way its organized, the light hits it right and it stands out as unique, but believable. I hope this kid continues to create and maybe even finds a mentor to boost them along.
Wow, that is very impressive. When i was ten and got into model-making (different, granted), I got intimidated and asked my dad to do most of the work so I could just have the ships. Great work!
It looks great and honestly this kind of out of the box imagination that's required to invent in your mind your own model project is a pretty good sign of higher intelligence.
My first impression was that this was an ice cube lol. I actually think maybe they could sell mini toys like this that you could make ice cubes with for novelty. It's a product liability waiting to happen but still you could probably make some millions before someone dies and you fold up the company walking away with all of your money. Go America; it's the American way. lol I kid. I hope those parents are proud because that's one of the coolest home brewed models from a kid I've seen.
Excellent work for a 10 year old, although someone should discuss scale with him. He should have really done it in two separate containers and placed them on opposite sides of the room to reflect how far apart the two halves of the ship ended up! 😅
Did you have any friends who started drawing at age three and got really good by the time you were all in school? How about someone who started playing and learning instruments before they could read? Those kinds of people are very real and scarily common.
All it takes is putting in the hours, no matter what age you are. Kid was probably watching someone do similar stuff and learning along before you had any idea what a wet palette was.
post this in r/modelmakers they'd probably like it there a lot also r/dioramas

See if the kid wants to make an Etsy shop or something and do commissions. I know a lot of titanic enthusiasts who would buy one
My friend would legit buy this lol. He is obsessed with Titanic
Smaller than I imagined it would be... Excellent work, effective and far beyond me at that age.
Might be beyond me at my current age...

Leveling the bottom would probably be beneficial, but I meant the top/sides look interesting with the uneven look.
Very nice! Great job for someone his age.
Daaaaaaaaamn. That kid has talent. Keep it up.
Is this a plastic model kit that he weathered and poured in epoxy?
Looks like it. I would guess revell.
Get this kid a box of space marines, stat!
Or get them minis/models from a brand that respects your wallet a bit more
You’re right but it’d be funny if the kid thinks 40k is cool and starts collecting them
>Get this kid a box of chaos space marines, stat! Fixed it for you 😁
I smell heresy…

He forgot Jack Dawson, but it’s otherwise stellar. Really-really impressive work.
Can probably throw the titan in there too
Honestly I was hoping to spot some skeleton in a white shirt in there.
Does this kid do commissions
Stellar!
The kids got talent! I wish id started doing dioramas at that age.
Yeah tell them this: let him cook
That kid has a fantastic eye for color and if they’re this good without the “right” materials, they’ll make some incredible stuff if they keep growing that skill!
Wowza! You go, mini master!
Hey, look, he even included the Titan sub.
That kid is talented
Kid has some serious talent

That's awesome. Good thing he doesn't have Reddit, otherwise he'd be drowning in upvote
Impressive
Absolutely amazing.
That's so cool them their great parents and their kid has a gift
Awesome
Just add a door floating on the surface with Rose DeWitt Bukater, and the model is complete! Seriously, that's absolutely fantastic!
This kid has an eye for the craft. This is very impressive
Where's Jack ?? Joking aside, amazing work :) Very talented !
This kid should watch the channel north of the border he'd probably love it
Wow, that is very impressive. When i was ten and got into model-making (different, granted), I got intimidated and asked my dad to do most of the work so I could just have the ships. Great work!
Considering age of the modeler supply limitations-Holy shit!!! Thats awesome!
Nice. He did a good job.

There is just no way! That's phenomenal!! Absolutely stunning job at 10!
Great job! The kid needs good supplies, they've got talent that should be nurtured.
Buy this kid some good paints/supplies/models.
Is that a controller I see on the seabed? Nice detail!
That is unbelievably cool! That's a lifetime memory. I love it!
Welp there goes my modelers self esteem I had built up, this kid is better than any modeler I’ve ever seen for what they used. So impressed.
Excellent work for a 10 year old, although someone should discuss scale with him. He should have really done it in two separate containers and placed them on opposite sides of the room to reflect how far apart the two halves of the ship ended up! 😅
This kid has a bright future in miniatures. Combine with engineering to go into construction or graphic design for game and movie work. Serious future
What was the model used?

Damn! He certainly has talent!
not wreck accurate, but still very cool.
Congrats to him... This diorama is fantastic! Really impressive work! 👍👍👍
NO PAINT JUST MARKERS... IDK HE'S A GOD THIS WORLD DOES NOT DESERVE HIM GG KID GG KEEP IT UP IT'S AMAZING
Did they supervise the kid while using the resin?, depending on brand it can be toxic
Fantastic. Really skilful for a younger painter.
Really cool, but I feel like this was a missed opportunity to be meta and make the resin mold look like an iceburg.
i think the stern side is a bit more....smashed. But it was a great effort! I sure couldnt do that at 10 XD
Ahah yeah uhm #what the fuck 😃 Nice.
I would not let a 10 year old handle epoxy resin alone, it can be toxic; I hope they found child-sized PPE for the kid!
I, for one, would like to welcome our future 10 year old overlord! Seriously, that’s very impressive.
I've seen some pretty obvious bs on this community, but this can't be real.

I still can't believe it was a kid, because that's great.
