It's crazy what 1.5 years of decent football have done to that fanbase. I've always quite liked the Lions and felt a certain level of empathy and respect for the true Lions fans out there that were still supporting them through the dark years (ie the vast minority of the folks cheering them on this season). But man, one playoff win since the world wide web was invented and they're EVERYWHERE talking mad shit acting like they're the 2000s Pats, 90s Cowboys, or 80s 49ers.
I always said I'd cheer for a the Lions if the Vikings were out and they had a chance but man these folks are making it tough.
I uses to figure that last part also. Now I'm cheering for Baker all the way! Just happens to mean I want the Bucs to win, but that isn't the important part. Baker getting a ring after the Browns gave up on him would be funny
I had a lions fan at work that said the other day, when chatting about the coaching situations all over the league, “personally, I wouldn’t hire Bill Belicheck”. We were all dumbfounded. They finally have some success and the delusion has already set in. Like MCDC is great, but you’re telling me because you finally won 1 playoff game you are going to stick your nose up to arguably the greatest coach of all time. Bonkers!
100% with your last comment. After all these years of bottom dwellers you’d figured they would see the game a bit more fairly but clearly they’re drunk off their immediate success, which is cool. But they’ve been pretty damn toxic so I’m inclined to say fuck them, respectfully.

why do you guys act like a few loud mouth losers are “all their fans”? the same embarrassing soft bullshit comes from vikings fans in the NFL threads too
It's just standard cry baby fan behavior. Like when Dobbs threw a completely normal pass over the middle that quarterbacks throw every game, but it was a little high and JJ hurt his back on the hit, so everyone here blamed Dobbs for throwing "hospital balls"

Weird, other DBs, even ones smaller than Kerby do it pretty regularly. And when they go low they don't lead with their helmet while having their face in the turf, they wrap up.
Coming in face down with no attempt to wrap up any part of the ball carrier is literally illegal in all levels of football. Coming in with your head up and wrapping up the ball carrier is how you're taught to tackle from peewee up. You can go low but you need to still have proper tackling form.
Also the receivers lower their head frequently to brace for contact and the defender hits their helmet while aiming for the torso. Football is a violent game. People get hurt.

NFL subreddit tough guys: ACTUALLY,
You don’t launch your crown at a player’s knees. This is what hawk/rugby tackling was popularized for. Maybe I’m expecting too much of random internet people to understand how leverage works.
I’m pi$$ed for TJ that he has to rehab from bush league sh like that. I’d be apoplectic if it was the difference between contending for a Super Bowl or not in any year.

Why does everyone feel sorry for Lions fans anyway? They most likely are Michigan fans, Red Wing Fans, Pistons fans. All told their state and Detroit had had way more sports success than MN. I’m only talking from a sports angle.
https://imgur.com/a/R7ysRlX
This angle is even worse and if you watch the video he launches down and gets his body twisted, he's lucky he didn't injure himself. I'm not saying it's dirty, but it's definitely poor form. That's not thigh level and there's no head up.
Kerby is going to concuss himself doing this, and I'll cheer for that. He's a dirty fucker.
And those calling it a legal hit -- it's not.
The rulebook outlaws this.
>It is a foul if a player: lowers his head and makes forcible contact with his helmet against an opponent; or. uses any part of his helmet or facemask to butt or make forcible contact to an opponent's head or neck.
Seems more like a league issue than a player issue. If a Viking was getting this accusation we'd be saying he's just following the rules and avoiding penalties. Spending weeks on the subject makes the sub look like it's full of crybabies.
That’s the thing. If Kirby Joesph was on the Vikings team I know for a 100% fact everyone would be in here defending it saying it’s a legal hit and it’s part of the rules. Because well uhhh… it is part of the rules. You do that type of hit for 3 reasons.
1. It’s football. You get hit hard and can get injured on any play.
2. That type of hit can lead to an incompletion or even a fumble, both important things,
3. If you can’t hit somebody up high or lead with the crown of your helmet your options of tackling somebody like a tight end or a super strong heavy TE are low. It’s not easy to tackle somebody that big. If Kerby tried to tackle him normally I guarantee the TE woulda probably broke the tackle and gained another 10+ yards.
The main point is, the Vikings injured Laporta but i never saw lions fans call the Vikings dirty? The rams did the exact same thing in the playoff game to laporta too, laporta just got lucky he didn’t get injured. There was an identical hit that a rams player did to laporta that kerby did.
Honestly idk why this sub suddenly turned into a bunch of victim crybabies, nobody’s waking up in the morning and telling themselves they want to send somebody to the hospital. It’s fucking football. You play to win the game, any legal way possible.
>If Kerby tried to tackle him normally I guarantee the TE woulda probably broke the tackle and gained another 10+ yards.
If Higbee had established possession, and was a runner, sure. But he was in the process of catching the ball with 100% of his attention on the ball and not defending himself. Completley vulnerable. We see DBs get going downhill like this and blow up guys in the flat regularly as the ball gets there. He was a sitting duck, and Joseph had his option of targets and chose to go low.
Again, if Higbee had possesion, and the opportunity to react to the hit, then I'd have no problem with it. It was dirty at worst and careless tackling at best.
NFL rulebook is over complicated as is, so this will stay legal but I don't like this hit at all. Feel terrible for Higbee.
I didn't defend Sendejo when he was a human Vikings missile and I wouldn't defend Kirby on the Vikings.
>The main point is, the Vikings injured Laporta but i never saw lions fans call the Vikings dirty?
They absolutely did.
Nobody is saying it’s an illegal hit. Go back through the comments and reread them. Then read them again. Then one more time. People are saying it’s dirty, because it is. A man torpedo launched himself into another man, with full intent on using the force of hit helmet. It’s dirty. That’s what it is. There’s no disputing that. Defending dirty/wrong actions just because they’re legal, is what’s wrong this country.
If dudes keep getting their knees blown up from dbs going low its just a matter of time before the league makes these hits illegal.
If the NHL can get rid of hip checks and have zero tolerance for knee hits, then the NFL can do it, too.

I don't think then really can though. They made it so you have to go low because you can't hit high, so if they get rid of a good chunk of the area you can tackle then the defense is going to have a real narrow spot to hit that's not too high or low, especially if the ball carrier is leaning/hunched forward.
All im saying is that the NHL doesn't allow them to hit in the head, hip check, or hit the knees, and there are still plenty of hits. Smaller guys still hit bigger guys, and you can't wrap a guy up and tackle him in the NHL.
The NFL allows a defender to hit or tackle. All it takes is for a super star to have their knee blown up, and the media make a stink before these hits are illegal, and then they will have to either wrap the ball carrier up, or hit between the shoulders and thigh pads, which leaves plenty of options for a defender. The league will always try and make it look like they care about player safety because that effects money.

FTL. That guy is going to end up like Ryan Shazier if he keeps tackling like that. I don't get how that's a legal tackle when the receiver is in a defenseless position. H̶e̶ ̶l̶i̶t̶e̶r̶a̶l̶l̶y̶ ̶g̶a̶v̶e̶ ̶s̶e̶a̶s̶o̶n̶ ̶e̶n̶d̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶i̶n̶j̶u̶r̶i̶e̶s̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶t̶w̶o̶ ̶r̶e̶c̶e̶i̶v̶e̶r̶s̶ ̶T̶W̶O̶ ̶W̶E̶E̶K̶S̶ ̶I̶N̶ ̶A̶ ̶R̶O̶W̶.̶
For all of those parroting "DBs go low all the time", the issue isn't going low, it's his tackle attempts. He's not attempting to wrap up the legs, he's not coming in with his head up looking at what he's hitting. He's coming in head down like a missile diving at legs. That's not a tackle and is legitimately against the rules per the NFL.
Wasn’t he on season ending IR? You guys are taking this to the extreme don’t you think? Dirty or not, you guys having your world shattered over a coach defending his player is pretty weird.
You are all fucking pathetic. Holy shit, stop letting them live rent free in your head.
We had a bad season with bad luck injuries, love the fuck on and stop being petty little cry babies.
No one is pissed because the Vikings had a poor season😂 people are pissed when they see a player who is dirty. Same thing happened with suh, same thing with vontez burfict, fans of all teams. Dirty players aren’t good for the sport. Plain and simple.
People hate dirty plays, it’s as simple as that. Just because it’s legal, doesn’t mean it’s not dirty. You can play the game and not be a dirty play. Lord knows 97% of nfl players have done it.
Right. All these dudes are just emotional because our guy got hurt. These 100% are legal tackles. Change the rules so this can’t happen if you don’t want dbs going low
I mean what would you actually like the defender to do there? Let the TE catch the ball unscathed? Go high and get flagged for a penalty? Both hits were very unfortunate but the rules of the game don’t give defenders much choice. In the case of Higbee, Stafford left him out to dry so he should be mad at him.
It’s awful but I’ve seen Harrison Smith make dozens of those kinds of get low, throw a shoulder, but don’t try to wrap up tackles. All safeties do that against larger receivers. In rugby tackling with your head down without arms wrapping the opponent is a foul. It would make the NFL safer if they enforced a form tackling rule.
FYI rugby law: A player must not charge or knock down an opponent carrying the ball without attempting to grasp that player.
FWIW, Harrison Smith on twitter on the Hockenson play:
…”what would you recommend he do?
The rules have encouraged more hits like that from the DB position…most effective way to protect that area of the field without penalty… I don’t like it either”
It doesn’t make these hits “clean” but since they are enforcing penalties for high hits, players are told to go low. Blame the NFL. Don’t hate the player hate the game. Until the NFL reevaluates the rules, it’s not the last time you’ll see this happen.
Leading with the crown of his helmet at the knee. Even Campbell said in his defense of dirty kerby he's told to keep his head up and didn't (doesn't ever because he wants to cause injuries). Have you never heard of the torso btw?
Why are you trolling this sub? Go back to your own fucking sub. This is for Vikings fans and you're in the playoffs but you would rather troll here? That seems to be all you do is troll subs of teams you don't like. Get a life.

Wow. First time I've seen this play. Totally undefendable. His helmet lowers. He is looking at the ground when he hits Higbee in the knee. Dan Campbell clearly did not watch or rewatch the play. What an incredibly disingenuous comment...

Future hall of famer and former Lion Matthew Stafford: this is a dirty hit NFL subreddit tough guys: ACTUALLY, You don’t launch your crown at a player’s knees.

"Just keep your head up, see what you hit" https://imgur.com/a/27nftCc Fuck you and your dirty ass team, Dan.
https://imgur.com/a/R7ysRlX This angle is even worse and if you watch the video he launches down and gets his body twisted, he's lucky he didn't injure himself.
Exactly. Dbs have to go low. It happens every single game.
2. That type of hit can lead to an incompletion or even a fumble, both important things, 3.

Week 16 and week 19 assuming you're talking about Hock and Higbee. Not "literally" two weeks in a row.
Ope my bad i got the last game confused. We just got beat badly on that game. BUT STILL!
Dopey drunk defends dirty dipshit.
Dan Campbell was on the 2009 Saints roster, those hits are on brand for him
Wasn’t he on season ending IR? You guys are taking this to the extreme don’t you think? Dirty or not, you guys having your world shattered over a coach defending his player is pretty weird.
Ofc Dumbass Dan Campbell would defend this. Fuck him kerby joseph and cjgj bumasses
Man this sub smell like pussy
You are all fucking pathetic. Holy shit, stop letting them live rent free in your head. We had a bad season with bad luck injuries, love the fuck on and stop being petty little cry babies.
No one is pissed because the Vikings had a poor season😂 people are pissed when they see a player who is dirty. Same thing happened with suh, same thing with vontez burfict, fans of all teams. Dirty players aren’t good for the sport. Plain and simple.
This sub is so insufferable
Y'all hate legal tackles lmao
You have to live in shithole Detroit, lmao

Hate tell you guys, but he's the head coach. He's not going to throw his guy under the bus, regardless of what he actually thinks about it...
ATTENTION BRIAN FLORES ATTN MR FLORES new defensive technique just dropped
I mean.. Harrison Smith himself basically said that the way the NFL is now, this is how DB's are starting to tackle.
He never kept his head up. Led with the crown of his helmet.
FWIW, Harrison Smith on twitter on the Hockenson play: …”what would you recommend he do?
Get a life.
