That’s because you have an owner that doesn’t care about winning. They haven’t tried to win since they had Todd Helton and Larry walker. 20 years ago. It’s sad, because the Rockies fans always supported them at home. I think the years have dwindled that significantly.
Exactly what I said. 20 years since they’ve tried to win. 17 actually. I was just throwing out a number. I was close. They’ve been terrible for some time now. They aren’t loaded at the minor league level either. They are in the lower third by most accounts. The future doesn’t look promising as of now.
As an Orioles fan that lived through the 17 years of our dark losing, I just want to say there is hope. Even with bad ownership there is hope for some type of miracle like we got in Baltimore in 2012 and had some good years to follow. It got absolutely bleak after that stretch but here we are, a great young team and new ownership now.
I NEVER thought I'd see this day and you're in a larger market, so ya just never know.
Hell, look at the Royals, a once proud franchise reduced to trying to win 2/10 years? They went from 1985 to 2015, 30 years to win again. Baseballs pay structure is pure bullshit. I hate it that teams can’t compete. Waters down the entire league.
Although since there are 30 teams, technically winning every 30 years is just about right...Cubs fans would give their left arm for that type of consistency...
The issue is that the stadium still makes money. #6 most profitable last year if I remember correctly, but I could be wrong. Denver is quite the hub and a lot of people like to come here to see their team play and vacation. And then the number of transplants who live here who can score tickets to see their home team play for less than 20$ are showing up to a lot of the games aswell. So I’ve noticed (as a transplant myself) it feels like most games have equal if not more fans of the away team. So sadly it appears the owners are still doing well with the team without having to put money into the team.
Cool story...my first trip to Coors field I ran into Jerry McMorris. The Rockies were doing well that year, and it was a Mets/Rockies game. I asked him if they had any plans to trade for help, and his response was "Somebody on this field will be wearing a new jersey soon.". Sure enough, they dealt for Bret Saberhagen right after.
Great stadium, solid fan base, but MLB prioritizes money or competitiveness. Can confirm, A's fan.
Okay, can I ask - and I mean this with truly no animosity toward the team or its players and fans - should the Rockies exist? They’ve been a basement team for almost their entire existence and the stadium is a graveyard for pitching careers. Is it viable to have a competitive club at that altitude?
I really love baseball and having as many teams in competition as possible, so I just want to say again that I appreciate you Rockies fans and the team. It just makes me sad from afar.
Aside from Ubaldo having an insane year and Jeff Francis being alright, there's no one. Aaron Cook was decent, Marquez makes it tolerable. I do wonder how much of Kyle Freelands success in the majors can be attributed to him pitching at altitude his entire life, he grew up here.
He was a near-perennial Cy Young contender in Houston but never was able to win one. He had about a season's worth of starts between two seasons in Philadelphia and pitched quite well as part of a star studded rotation but got hurt in the second season and from there his play fell off a cliff
Phillies fan here. Can confirm that, during his second season in Philadelphia, he got injured and went on the IL for 2 or 3 months and then Osama Bin Laden dies and Oswalt is suddenly back from the IL a week later. Just enough time to get debriefed on an important mission. Coincidence? Almost certainly, but nothing can reasonably be ruled out.
I remember when the Astros owner Drayton McClane gifted him an Astros decorated bulldozer for his farm in Mississippi for getting the team into the playoffs and they had to reword his contract to make it legit.
Then they made a bobblehead out of this.

P.S. I have one.
He was part of that amazing 2011 pitching corps that the Phillies had - Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Cole Hamels, Roy Oswalt, and Joe Blanton.
https://syndication.bleacherreport.com/amp/544102-the-2010-phillies-and-the-5-greatest-pitching-rotations-of-all-time.amp.html
The fact that the 2011 world series wasn’t Phillies Red Sox is still insane. Halladay, Lee, Hamels, Oswalt, Blanton against Lester, Beckett, Lackey, Buchholz, and Matsuzaka.
And then Ryan howard, utley, victorino, carlos ruiz, rollins vs Ortiz, Pedroia, Ellsbury, adrian gonzalez, carl crawford
You're in luck my friend

I love Roy...to me he was our greatest pitcher since Ryan.....
The story about how he got his arm shocked while changing spark plugs or something and never felt pain in it again is one of my favorites.
Was so sad when they traded him.
That'd be Roy Oswalt. He and Roy Halladay (RIP) were pretty damn dominant in the 2000's. Halladay was definitely the better Roy of the two, but Oswalt was very very good
I know this sub would know the answer way better than me but I loved going down the internet rabbit hole...
* Looked up the hat -> Astros
* Looked up the patch -> 2001
* Looked at 2001 Astros pitching roster for last names with AT

In an hour you still didn’t notice the 40 year Astros anniversary patch and look up the Astros roster from that year on baseball reference.
Don’t quit your day job to become a detective my friend.
pretty sure that's Roy Oswalt
Thank you, as a Rockies fan I vaguely remember him playing (I remember him sucking as a Rockies)
In his defense, not many pitchers thrived in Colorado.
I’ve never seen a Rockies fan in the wild (I’m a huge Rockies fan)
I’m a Met’s fan, but I don’t hate the Rockies. Been to Coors Field. It is a nice stadium. And the fans seemed cool.
That’s because you have an owner that doesn’t care about winning. They haven’t tried to win since they had Todd Helton and Larry walker. 20 years ago. It’s sad, because the Rockies fans always supported them at home. I think the years have dwindled that significantly.
Went to WS with Tulo Holiday

Man, that Rockies era had some sluggers.

Y'all have a gorgeous field! I enjoyed the Astros losing on our yearly stadium tour
I was born a raised in Denver but my family is from Philly so I root for both teams
Hey there haha. We exist!
Okay, can I ask - and I mean this with truly no animosity toward the team or its players and fans - should the Rockies exist? It’s the lack of humidity!

it’s been a while since he had any success
Ubaldo Jimenezis all I can think of. Lol
Jeff Francis and Ubaldo Jimenez
Blame it on the altitude I hear.
He was at the very end of his career when he played for Colorado.
He was a near-perennial Cy Young contender in Houston but never was able to win one. He had about a season's worth of starts between two seasons in Philadelphia and pitched quite well as part of a star studded rotation but got hurt in the second season and from there his play fell off a cliff

Fell off of a Cliff Lee
Hes the pitcher that did the hidden ball trick with Todd Helton
He was at the end of his career then. Great pitcher!
One of the great pitchers of the 90s man I lived him and his dirty change
Curveball was dirty too. Wish we could clone him for this year
He was an absolute bad ass in Houston
Roy Oswalt. My all time favorite pitcher. He was an absolute stud in Houston.
The Rockies special… coming from another Rockies fan haha
Rocky*
Rocky! Rocky! Rocky! Rocky!
I JUST WANNA ROCK 🪨 BODYODYYAA ✅😎
Well he was a badass for the Astros !
God I'm old.
Reminds me of the tractor story
Agreed
One time he was gifts a bulldozer for winning a playoff game
He was dece
100% Roy Oswalt. He wore tight pants before it was acceptable!
Yes! Roy Oswalt!
Roy Oswalt
Roy Harvey Oswalt.
I feel like that was the official facial hair of the astros for those years
Ah yes. The Red Brick Chin Patch. The official facial hair of Houston when I lived there.
That was the official facial hair of the late 90's early/ early 2k
(Not so) Coincidentally, that's the same facial hair all of my created players/wrestlers in video games had when I was a kid.
Mine back then too:-)
Going through the rosters on MLB2K7 is a time capsule of mid 2000’s chinstraps, goatees, and soul patches.
Billy Wagner had it too
Royyyyy. Man, i loved watching him pitch.

Incredible loop.
Charles Schwab over here 🤌
Roy Oswalt. He was pretty good at pitching.
Roy Oswalt

I have one.
So Dope, I remember that! Thank you!
I'll buy it.
Yeah, you don't get more "country" than that guy. You wouldn't really know it by looking at him, but after you hear him talk... 😂
Do you know the story of the electrical accident that scared his elbow tissue?
Sorry u/Longhorn_TOG looks like you’re all over this one. Go Astros!!!
He was part of that amazing 2011 pitching corps that the Phillies had - Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Cole Hamels, Roy Oswalt, and Joe Blanton. https://syndication.bleacherreport.com/amp/544102-the-2010-phillies-and-the-5-greatest-pitching-rotations-of-all-time.amp.html
“and Joe Blanton” lol
I believe the last pitcher to homer in a World Series game is in that rotation, want to guess who?
Roy O hit a few dingers in his day, but based on the nature of this comment, I'm assuming ot wasn't him?
Nope, it was Blanton. Unless someone did it in 2019 or 2021. I didn't watch all the games and those were the last years it was possible.
[удалено]
Haha all good man. He was most certainly on the staff lol
He could've been a number 3 on many staffs. He was solid. To have him as our number 5 was part of what made the rotation so complete.
As a Braves fan, this gives me PTSD
The fact that the 2011 world series wasn’t Phillies Red Sox is still insane. Halladay, Lee, Hamels, Oswalt, Blanton against Lester, Beckett, Lackey, Buchholz, and Matsuzaka. And then Ryan howard, utley, victorino, carlos ruiz, rollins vs Ortiz, Pedroia, Ellsbury, adrian gonzalez, carl crawford
Can’t forget about The Vanimal
Oswalt fell victim to the Rally Squirrel in those 2011 playoffs.
The wizard
You’re just having a hard time remembering him because all of his starts were so quick. This dude would never need the pitch clock.
Had some good years with the Astros
Roy Oswalt
I remember him getting a bulldozer when he played for the Astros. Got the bobblehead of it too!
I’d love to see that
You're in luck my friend https://www.ebay.com/itm/285847265381?itmmeta=01HZND3XCBPY6SQHJXCQF0DJPV&hash=item428dd32065:g:jkEAAOSwxcFmOUMB&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA8JfY6aGakLF78u79NiWgWutISYLFzkOx9pTQ97zmfG6PC7T0S302KhcvmtTx7FLPW4eqLEqpa%2Bx%2FkWKenwn3ZWtdxO5jiwMbKIjt8vpBhU4ZIu1ZYl%2Bo8DKBz91NMQXnLbfEEO1z1FDIIIyZA56JtLu9TW6o1daiSvhEPeK6jx0%2BQ4NY%2BeaqQz%2FCuk39lwSqQjaUk5vGufmftoqM5ciaxfYu3yM8G3PwRwILiB5FSH%2Fdb8xZGLI3eYN3F4VyTv3v8dO0e%2BKAlTt5tKWofnBSUdSy3MAtBo%2BnzFgu5hrvQWL438KXqiJB74BGC42TQ2pt5g%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR6DWj639Yw

I have one too, it's awesome.
If I didn’t leave it at my parents when I moved out I’d share a pic of mine lol
I Played against him in high school in the early to mid '90s
Roy Oswalt
Patton Oswalt
Ratatouille but it’s a rat under a baseball cap
Roy Oswalt…
Come on man you can’t identify Roy Oswalt? Give us a hard one
Roy Oswalt was an absolute nightmare every time he faced my Reds. Killed them. Every. Time.
Roy Oswalt
“Little Roy” as Jimmy Rollins would call him. (Halladay was Big Roy.)
Roy Oswalt
Roy oswalt
Roy Oswalt Astros
Roy Oswalt who was amazing for a while
I love Roy...to me he was our greatest pitcher since Ryan..... The story about how he got his arm shocked while changing spark plugs or something and never felt pain in it again is one of my favorites. Was so sad when they traded him.
JV is our greatest pitcher since Ryan, IMHO.
hence why i said "was"
Roy Oswalt, finally knew one of these
The Astros bought him a bulldozer
Roy Oswalt!
Roy Oswalt
Dude was awesome for a while.
Roy Oswalt
Roy Oswalt
Roy Oswalt. The Wizard!!!
Looks like Roy Oswalt. Had one of the weirdest combined team no-hitters ever.
Roy Oswalt
That’s uncle ROY
Definitely Roy oswalt
Oswalt. The great Roy Oswalt.
Roy Oswalt. Took me 2 seconds to look at it.
Still can’t believe that Oswalt, Halliday, Hamels and Lee Phillies team didn’t make the World Series.
Clemens petite and him did tho
Nolan Ryan
Roy Oswalt?
Wow there’s a name I haven’t heard in a while. Forgot about him
Roy Oswalt was awesome
Roy baby
Roy Oswalt
Roy Oswalt was great for the astros…
Roy Oswalt
I loved Roy O. He pitched with a pitch clock before pitch clocks were a thing.
This was not that hard. You can see half the letters on his jersey. Were you high during that hour?
That'd be Roy Oswalt. He and Roy Halladay (RIP) were pretty damn dominant in the 2000's. Halladay was definitely the better Roy of the two, but Oswalt was very very good
Roy Oswald rookie year. He looks short so
That's definitely Roy Oswalt.
Albert Pujols broke him.
Roy Oswalt

I’m stupid, but I’m not that stupid
A hour? How about an hour?
Roy Oswalt
Roy Oswalt
One of my favorite pitchers of all time.
Oswalt, took one look at
Definitely Roy Oswalt. Better question is what’s the deal with that frame?
I agree. Oswalt
Roy oswalt
Roy Oswalt throwing a four seamer to strikeout Albert Pujols in 2005 NLCS Game 4........maybe.
Pretty sure it's Pedro Martines when he was young
Roy Oswalt
Crazy how much the look of some teams change over the years. The Astros jersey and branding is nothing like that anymore, not even any of the colors.
Yeah, I think that the Astros should go back to this look. The logo and colors were clean.
That's a really nice frame!
Little trivia...Oswalt was a part of the 3 headed monster of 3 astros young starters who all came up thru the minors together. Name the other 2 sp?
Roy O!

forget the name of the player.....why would you get such a fancy frame for that?
I found it at a thrift store. And I got it because I knew that the early to mid Astros pitching staff was pretty good
He’s on the Astros. Name seems to have “A” and “T” toward the end. I’ve got it: ASSHAT.
