I think restoring the Eastern Roman Empire would be the more popular opinion on this sub.

american-monarchist2

Also a pipe dream if we’re being honest

Brynden-Black-Fish

Of course.

Restore the throne, considering the Turkish state has no control over Mecca and Medina no to caliph (they would have little support in the Islamic world) I say just name it the kingdom of Turkey

ComicField

Oh right, you have a point there with Mecca and Medina, if anyone should declare themselves "Caliph of the Muslims", it should be the Saudis. Didn't think about that, thanks

Ya_Boi_Konzon

I'm pretty sure the current president of Turkey sees himself as some kind of Caliph. The Turkish government has gotten a lot more religious as of late too, so I think there's certainly a possibility of something happening. Though I doubt the former ruling house will be brought back.

prokopiusd

Maybe he sees himself as some kind of autocrat, possible even sultan, but I doubt that he sees himself as a Caliph. He doesn't act like a religious figure and he doesn't seem to have any ambitions to do so.

In no case. The Turkish nation, which emerged from the ruins of the Ottoman Empire and did not even have a banal linguistic identity as of 1918, was formed by the exceptional titanic efforts of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. The entire civilizational, cultural, legal, state-building and orderly contest of the modern Turkish state ethos was built only by Kemal. And it was Kemal's civilizational course that was able to neutralize Turkey to the point where it does not threaten Christian Civilization. In short, the answer is unequivocal: no.

prokopiusd

I also kinda like the Ottoman Empire, but I doubt that the sultanate could ever be restored. There is strong, deep-rooted republican element within the Turkish society.

Restore the whole Ottoman Empire
