Well, the FZ1N has a centerstand. My FZ1 is the first bike I ever had with one and I don't know how I lived without it. Essspecially when I had to plug a flat rear tire on the side of a busy highway with a shoulder maybe 3 feet wide. It has a lot more power than the other bikes you listed. Looking at it again, did the N not come with a centerstand? That would suck.

Rowinter

Ouch that sounds like a terrible experience, I'd hate to get stranded like that. Yes the power is looking really good, on par or slightly better than my 9R.

improbablydreaming

No arguing with 150bhp and a comfy riding position :)

Easiest chain cleaning in the world!

I was shopping in the same market aswell. I bought a 2011 cb1000r afterall. It was even cheaper than the FZ1N and had ABS. That could also be an option for yourself.

FZ all day. Only issue you may run into is service costs since yamaha switched to the MT platform like 10 years ago, but imo the affordability and novelty of these bikes makes it worth. Gsxr and 636 gonna feel pretty aggressive for street riding and probably not too different from your current sportbike.

EggsOfRetaliation

I'd choose the FZ1N over any of those bikes. They don't have jack on the FZ1. Especially with an Ivan flash. It unlocks the first 3 gears. 150hp and 79 ft lb torque of raw R1 power. It's fucking bananas. If you're also looking at SS, get the regular FZ1. Best of both worlds. Wind protection, all day comfort, timeless looks. I love my 2008.

Agree with this. I had the regular FZ1 from 2009-2021. It never had a single mechanical issue. The ergonomics are far superior to a dedicated sport bike. The only change I made was to swap out the monster stock exhaust for a Yoshimura slip on. The sound was glorious! The main thing you gain by going with the MT10 is all the cool electronic features that the FZ1 just didn’t have, but the MT10 is way more expensive. If you get the FZ1, it has a lot of bang for the buck.

Rowinter

Thanks for sharing your experience. If you don't mind me asking, why did you sell it and what did you replace it with?

Hey, no problem. I'm 6'2" and 220lbs. I'm also almost 50 years old now. When I first got the 2009 FZ1, I was coming from a 2007 Suzuki Hayabusa. The Hayabusa is a legendary bike and I was in a place where I could afford it and I just had to have it and enjoy it as much as I could. Although I did outfit it for a more touring approach with lowering pegs, bar risers, taller windscreen, etc., it was still kind of uncomfortable for my size on longer rides over an hour, especially in a lot of stop and go traffic. As a result, I was looking for a more comfortable bike back then with a less committed riding position. The FZ1 fit the bill and didn't sacrifice too much performance. I'm now that much older than I was back then and moved on to a full blown cruiser with a 2017 Kawasaki Vulcan 1700 Voyager. In addition to the ergonomic improvement, it's definitely more compatible with passengers, which I'm more often entertaining these days than I did back then. Also, I enjoy the creature comforts like ABS brakes, gear position indicator, sound system, cruise control, etc. At this stage of my life, I'm ok with less performance and more comfort. Ultimately, I'd like to just get a Goldwing and be done with it. To me, that's the ultimate motorcycle for my current circumstances.

Yeah it's older but it's a higher tier than those modern nakeds, should really compare it to the MT10 but it's double the price for a used one. I know very little about the FZ1, what does unlocking the first three gears mean, are they rpm restricted? Next to your name you list the K6 GSXR 750, do you own or have owned one? I've been wanting one for a long time. Track wise, it is probably the best choice.

EggsOfRetaliation

I own a K6 750, it's so intense. It's comfortable for what it is, un-killable, got torque where you need it through town, screams up top, great redline over the newer ones. I love it. As for the FZ1 it it's power restricted in the first three gears. Flashing it lets the bike be what it's always been. They stopped selling the FZ1 in 2017. It's not that old, to me anyway. It's the best all rounder on the market in my opinion. It's pretty brutal.

Rowinter

Love to hear it. I have heard many great things about the K6 600/750 but I've never ridden it, I have ridden the K5 750 though. Everyone says the K6 is a huge improvement, smaller, lighter and much more agile. Did you own a FZ1 too? Right now I think these two are the top contenders.

EggsOfRetaliation

Luckily for me, I own both. If I had to choose one for daily living, it would be the FZ1. The K6/K7 are LEGENDARY with the GSX-R. The 2011 and beyond are largely based on the K6/K7. It's just that damn good. It was also before the power modes and all that BS, it's just a raw sport bike. You and the bike. It just works. It's really a treat. As for the FZ1, it's just an absolute brute of a bike. You have that FAT R1 motor, all day comfort, and reliability that can hit 300k with maintenance and beyond. Make sure if you get it the rotor has been done on the charging system.

Rowinter

I know the K5 1000 is very highly regarded, but didn't know the K6-K7 750 was that good, I only knew the 750 has been unchanged for quite some time, didn't know it was that far back as the K6. I know what you mean with raw. I have an 86' GSX-R750 and even that old thing is so confidence inspiring, you have such a connection to the road that my newer ZX9R does not have, it's more like a bat, you can swing it really hard but you don't have much control, and it's a lot of work pushing it around a track. The 86 was a breeze, the biggest challenge was the lack of grip from the 140 rear tire. I've been thinking about restmodding the 86' but feel that $1-2k is better spent towards something more modern.

EggsOfRetaliation

The 750's last update was in 2011. From K7-11 there were some minor changes. The K6/7 set the benchmark for raw super sports. There was a top super bikes list from the 2000s and the GSX-R750 was on it while the super bikes were murdering the list. Sounds to me like the GSX-R is your golden ticket. Good luck! And yes, you're right the K5/6 GSX-R1000 is a straight savage. It's easy to overlook the K6 750 due to the 1000 getting the limelight. The K6/7 750 is the best street super sport you can buy in my opinion.

blueballsforforeskin

I would buy this 100%. This was one classy look, and that inline 4 sounded so good.

PopTartsNHam

It’s better, except for the potential add of electronics. Basically an r1 frame, detuned engine. A shock swap, slip on, and an ECU flash and you’ve got 150hp, comfortable all day, cheap as hell, reliable machine that can commute, tour, and Trackday with ease. The do it all (fucking fast) machine: https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycles/s/CA43DeFEmz

Apart_Actuary1578

Yes, have had the fz6 and fz1 both converted to naked and they were amazing

_CodenameV

I currently STILL have an 09FZ6. I feel like these bikes fly under the radar. My opinion is they do mot excel at anything but are REALLY good across the board. And they have good power.
