Oh yeah baby! I have one of these parked next to my 89 ZX10 and my 86 RZ250.
Thought it would kill my legs riding it, being 6 foot 4, but it's actually surprisingly comfy. Still RIPS up in the mountains...
I wouldn't mind one myself though my ideal would be one of the pop-up headlight units from 85-87. They weren't the performance monsters that the earlier ones were but that headlight...
I did have one back in the day but traded it on something with more oomph. I went looking a few years back when I wanted another bike but I wasn't paying $17-20k for a 30+yo bike that isn't a true classic!

I change the oil every 3-5,000km but I do a lot of city riding. Coolant top ups once in a blue moon. Michelin Road 6 last for many thousands of miles.
One thing to bear in mind is the 35mpg gas consumption 😅
Do it. You wont regret it. Maintenance is minimal. Valve adjustments are easssssyyy. And after the first few they dont really move. Smooth power. Suspensions can use work, but thats pretty standard.
Engines are good for an easy 100k and a few people have hit 200k miles with minimal maintenance. The only issue with them is the starter chain tensioner which I think nearly every one in existence has had fixed by now (theres like 6 different kits for a "fix.")
Worst thing I've run into on mine is removing the carb rack from the frame. If you keep the airbox, they're an absolute bear to get out (and back in). There's just not enough clearance to do it easily, especially if the carb boots are older and kind of stiff. Actually working on the carbs once they're out is easy by comparison!
And I really recommend patching a fuel filter or something into the fuel line, to give you a second place to take the line apart if it's stuck to the petcock barb. If it comes off at the carbs, you're doing at least a partial extraction to get it back on, and I'd rather flatten my dick with a hammer.
Ariel square four, starting to become unobtainium, unique engine and amazing looks.

My dad had one for a while when he got out of the Navy in '59. He threw a rod on a highway outside of the small town where he lived in southwest Oklahoma and ended up pushing it a few miles home. It sat beside my grandmother's house up until I was a teenager (mid '70's) slowly rusting away with a hole in the side of the crankcase. It was hauled to the dump ground some time around 1976, never to be seen again.
Gotta be the BMW MKM Krauser. Coolest bike made in my opinion

1985 RZ350NC2. This one isn’t mine, but I still have mine I bought in 1989.

I want it today, and luckily I still have it.
I've been eyeballing these in the 916 for thirty years. How many miles and how many times have you bought the bike again in service bills?
I had a 2005 monster S2r and it was a maintenance whore, one of the big reasons I've neglected to fulfill that 916 dream.
I just had the Desmo service done on my Hypermotard (2010 796) and it was ~$1000. This is my 4th Ducati. Absolutely worth the price of admission. Had 2 Kawasakis and a Harley. Ducati outperforms by a lot.
100% an old GSX-R. These things look so good

The older model Magnas are forever my dream. They were just such great looking and performing bikes.
[The 1983 commercial ](https://youtu.be/iORT5E6Hbkc?si=lh1enGuU_PROlDe7) is fantastic as well.
The sabre was my friends first bike. It constantly overheated and the rear shock if I remember correctly was sprung with compressed air, so that never worked either.
The ducati 900ss is one of the best looking bikes ever made in my opinion, but it's also completely insane to ride. I think I'd go with a Kawasaki z1.
I just want a MC22 CBR250RR so that I can wail the hell out of it at legal speeds :(
That and I just really like Honda's old color schemes when it comes to bikes. Like the 2011 CBR150R.
https://preview.redd.it/atrl8hlq4bad1.jpeg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a014dbc5ba24ba016d1498c37f2b43c13f654e70
It just screams gundam to me.
The Sabre was a weird bike. Shaft driven ,clunky transmission/coolant running through the frame. V4 engine makes it a nightmare to work on the carbs. GPZ way more conventional.
Something like the honda nsr500. I grew up on 2 stroke mx bikes but by the time I could ride street everything was 4 stroke. The raw power of a yz250 and the light switch like powerband was wild. I'd like to feel what it's like on a street bike.
My white whale is a first gen Katana. Someone had one listed recently on marketplace, complete, not running for $2000 like 2 hours from me. Sold the following morning 😥. I woulda took off work and rented a truck if I saw the listing sooner.
If I could find a V65 Sabre with that fairing tho I'd be all over it. I know they had some issues with second gear, but V4 goodness! They sounds amazing with a 4 into 1.
I had the v65 Magna… basically a Sabre in cruiser form. It was a blast to ride but the electrical gremlins were nasty and the wiring on that bike is bad. Honda engineers were doing some drugs back then. That’s all I can figure.
I wouldn’t mind having a GPZ though!
I do love the Sabre. Wicked cool 80s styling. I think I’m between the Sabre and the standard Honda CBs of the 80s. They’re just the quintessential motorcycle
That v65 motor is awesome, had a v65 magna and it was a fantastic bike even though it’s styling is horribly dated and mine had all the problems you would expect from a $800 Craigslist buy
Two different styles. Compare the GPz to an Interceptor. I had the Sabre and rode it on a 6300 & 4700 mile trip. My favorite bike. Bought another one as a project for one of these days. First trying to get my Tiger to run. It's winning.
Those two are surprisingly very different. The sabre was built to be a comfy, powerful muscle cruiser, whereas the GPZ is more focused on being a sport bike. I had a GPZ 750 and it was quick
As soon as I find a V65 Sabre in decent enough shape and with the blue accents instead of red, I'm buying it. I've been watching for years.
Before the Sabre, I had my heart set on a 1980 CB750C. I saw one in a museum years ago and knew that was the bike for me. Now that I've got that one, a Sabre is next.
The Honda Sabre was a great bike though a bit heavy. The way the carbs are angled allowed the jets to gum up if it sat unused for a year or more. Super pain to clean and replace jets. Fuel injection would have helped this bike immensely.
A lot of sportbikes in this thread, and while I do agree there's some stunning bikes in that category, they really haven't aged all that as well as performance machines. So I doubt I would enjoy riding them all that much. They also seem like a pain to maintain.
So my pick would probably be a XRV750 Africa Twin or a lighter dual sport like the XT 600 Tenere.
1982 Honda CB900fss
1993 Suzuki Katana 1100
1996 Suzuki GSXR-1100
I had all of these bikes, and I wish I still did. When I was riding the GSXR-1100, I was blown away with how fast it was. I can't imagine how fast the bikes are today.
I do have my 2001 Kawasaki 1100 Ninja, so that's good.
My first bike was a 1981 GPz 550 and it was a beauty and 2nd gear was like a shot. Even with my friend on the back I was able to show her how amazing 2nd was. This was about 8 years ago so it was I guess 35 years old at the time.
https://preview.redd.it/3gml0d9o17ad1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c8edb3365d5313b30acfcecf565fcab39b7dbec2
CB750 for sure! Especially this one because it’s mine!
I miss my old bike, 1992 K2 model zx7r, stupidity solid it for a girl... Then she left, needed help and came back but that cost me a Vulcan 2008 in kawi green... Then left and came back, I tell you if it comes down to her or my Gixxer, she can have a sandwich for the walk. But that K2, not many left out there still running, so probably won't find another, but that be my pick. Nice wide seat too for those long days carving roads.
Only one..
The longest winning number 1 bike on the world.. From 1969 to 2008 tye bike that won and dominated Flatrack racing championships for decades..Harley Davidson XR750
*
I got 1989 GPX750R
It’s nice, I like 80s style in motorcycles / cars.
But any kind of repair sucks ass. I always take it to my local Kawasaki dealer, chief mechanic there love to work on it as it’s not just swapping parts.
Also despite age it have power and speed.
I wanted the GPZ900R because of top gun. I bought the GPZ400R as my first street bike when I got my license as a teen. Maybe one day I’ll pick up the 900.
Aw man, I had that V65 but no fairing. Same color. 1885 leftover for cheap. First shaft drive bike I ever had….and that motor! Good ergos for long days. That bike got RODE. But for this, I’d take the Ninja.
My pops had an 86 Sabre that batch was no joke he scared me so bad on that fkr I’d squeeze his ribs so hard I’d try and break them to keep from falling off the back or jus to get him to slow down that 6 cyl ain’t nothing to play with
When I was 13, the Hornet 599 and 919 were being advertised for release in the US, and I wanted one as soon as I saw them in whatever magazine. I can still remember the picture of the asphalt black 919 doing a 12 o'clock wheelie with the rider sitting on the seat looking at the camera giving a thumbs up in his white helmet.
It looked like someone had modernized an old CB750 and I was so there for it. 20 years later I finally bought a red 2007 model and after three or four rides I thought, "Why didn't I buy one of these 10 years ago?" It's the best of everything I love about street motorcycles. Light-ish, retro-ish, comfy, quick-ish, quiet but sounds great when you get on the gas, starts every time with EFI and a manual fast idle, round headlight goodness...
I couldn't afford a 916, so I got a 919. Look at the specs; they're shockingly close, especially if you aren't riding at 10/10ths on track.
Honda CX650 turbo is at the top of my list. I have a gl650 Silverwing and damn if that isn’t a fantastic machine, I can’t imagine what it feels like with a turbo! I also have a 700s nighthawk, which is another one of Hondas great bikes from the 80s. A v65 Sabre is pretty high on my list as well. PC800 pacific coast is up there too. I like weird/old bikes! Yamaha RD400 is somewhere on my list too.
Used to have a poster on my wall of Mick Doohan on his NSR500 so that would be my choice. It won 5 consecutive GP titles with Doohan and Rossi won his first title on it.
It's not street legal and would probably kill me tho.
I have a lot. VMAX, v65 magna, Suzuki Madura 1200, Suzuki TL1000S, Honda RC51, Honda VFR750/800. Honda cbr900s from the 90s, gsxrs from the 90s. To many to list.

I’ve owned three Suzuki RG500’s and one Yamaha RZ500. My last RG was destroyed in a garage fire last year….I miss it. Currently have a Duc1098S and an R6. Two stroke stuff is fun/scary.
the 900R is SUCH a good bike, it' a forever bike, it's just so ridiculously good, you really don't need anything else. don't be foolish, hold on to it.

I always loved the old 80s [CB700sc](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_CB700SC) with the square headlight and boxy body paneling. Love it.
Nighthawks were cool bikes. My dad had a CB650SC and I loved that thing.

Like the 2011 CBR150R. https://preview.redd.it/atrl8hlq4bad1.jpeg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a014dbc5ba24ba016d1498c37f2b43c13f654e70 It just screams gundam to me.

I want my Guzzi Le Mans 3 back that I sold back in 2004. In white please.
Danger zone!
Im a Honda freak but in this case Id take the Ninja Daddy. Now - make the Honda a VFR1000R or even a clean 700/750
Probably an old Zephyr like so: https://preview.redd.it/ih965gjwf6ad1.jpeg?width=903&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6437033408600f46ef7925140ea4b0e5d67b4ed3
79' Honda CBX
Gpz 750 turbo or an old vmax
Vmax was a fn amazing bike
I own a Gen 2 Vmax and I can’t imagine ever letting it go
I would love a Honda CBX. Just not sure who could service because I sure couldn't.
*side eyes my 43yo Honda*
86 hurricane, 92.5 cbr900rr, Apriliausa rs25O and 6.5, bimota vdue(carbonated)
Honda. Parts availability.
I'm very very partial to the 80s Honda V4s
Honda CBX or Yamaha RZ350.

A Kawi ZRX, 60s Honda Dream C77, Honda VRX750, last years of an Indian Chief, and HD WLA
1992 Suzuki RGV250 VJ22 Still newer than both my bikes 😂

Terribly underrated rapid "sport tourer"...
I loved my Seca turbo https://preview.redd.it/z82cikcw0bad1.png?width=1792&format=png&auto=webp&s=dc6c656b2b449043756a87ea3ff8444c8725aee4
I had a Saber just like this picture! Fast and smooth!
Kawi all the way
Aprilia RS 250, Kawa ZXR 750 My teenage dreams.
GPZ900 too ,sooooo sexy
I owned one those V65s. The engine is NOT bulletproof, and they run hot enough to scorch your legs.
I don’t really know why or if I would consider it “classic” but I really want a mid to late 80s gold wing
1984 Kawasaki KZ1000J.
An RC30, Wanted one since I was 14. A few years hopefully
They need to hurry up and make a gpz900 from a z900 already. Been waiting way too long for this.
Why wait any longer, you can build your own: https://shop.doremi-co.com/view/category/ct1585
Oh nice, didn't know this existed. Would make a fun project with some mates over beers. Thank you.
Danger Zone.
Two different styles. Compare the GPz to an Interceptor. I had the Sabre and rode it on a 6300 & 4700 mile trip. My favorite bike. Bought another one as a project for one of these days. First trying to get my Tiger to run. It's winning.
The honda
unironically i have the sister to the sabre the interceptor 750 great bikes
Who can say NO to the OG Ninja? Great bike ahead of its time.
Norton Commando 850
BSA Lightning. I'd settle for a Thunderbolt.
Those two are surprisingly very different. The sabre was built to be a comfy, powerful muscle cruiser, whereas the GPZ is more focused on being a sport bike. I had a GPZ 750 and it was quick
My first bike was a GPZ 550, fantastic bike for the time!!!
I’d take the GPZ over the saber. Sabers handled funky. The bike I miss are the 700Nitehawk s and my 95 VFR 750
Late 70s Kawasaki Z900. My cousin had one and it was the bug that bit me. I'm 5 bikes in now and I'm so glad I'm in.
Yamaha RD500. 2-stroke 500cc V4, we never got in the US. I'd love to hear that thing scream on some back roads.
Sabre without the fairing, or a Suzuki gs1100s
https://preview.redd.it/07yuh2spl6ad1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b61d4e82687f39e3f99734ed14d3e4c07a34e486 Husky 400 Cross.
As soon as I find a V65 Sabre in decent enough shape and with the blue accents instead of red, I'm buying it. I've been watching for years. Before the Sabre, I had my heart set on a 1980 CB750C. I saw one in a museum years ago and knew that was the bike for me. Now that I've got that one, a Sabre is next.
owned the '84 gpz900r in 2015 - it was even more awesome than you expect, and held its own with anything that could be done on the streets.
Harley Bad Boy, from what I've heard it was a horrible bike but I love the style of it.
I had an '85 v65 Magna, so that engine styling will always have a soft spot for me
I definitely feel the need.
Both are outstanding choices
GPz1100 unitrack
A Yamaha RZ500!!
To coin a phrase, I wouldn't kick either bike out of the garage, but my heart's with the Sabre.
https://preview.redd.it/1v1x9r34s6ad1.jpeg?width=4608&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f599c4be50f6f48e69a7c00a16598ec2ae511b98
The Honda Sabre was a great bike though a bit heavy. The way the carbs are angled allowed the jets to gum up if it sat unused for a year or more. Super pain to clean and replace jets. Fuel injection would have helped this bike immensely.
Yamaha XJ 650 maxim, my first bike
A lot of sportbikes in this thread, and while I do agree there's some stunning bikes in that category, they really haven't aged all that as well as performance machines. So I doubt I would enjoy riding them all that much. They also seem like a pain to maintain. So my pick would probably be a XRV750 Africa Twin or a lighter dual sport like the XT 600 Tenere.
Saber!
Oh man, i’m old enough where both of those stir my gonads!
1982 Honda CB900fss 1993 Suzuki Katana 1100 1996 Suzuki GSXR-1100 I had all of these bikes, and I wish I still did. When I was riding the GSXR-1100, I was blown away with how fast it was. I can't imagine how fast the bikes are today. I do have my 2001 Kawasaki 1100 Ninja, so that's good.
Honda NT650 / BROS. I'm taking the opportunity to pick a second one up while I'm in Japan.
GPZ…if you can find a 750 in great condition, better yet.
I have a v65 Sabre. It’s bad ass.
What's the motorcycle from Ratatouille
My uncle commutes on a V65 Sabre. Gorgeous bike and quite a powerhouse.
My first bike was a 1981 GPz 550 and it was a beauty and 2nd gear was like a shot. Even with my friend on the back I was able to show her how amazing 2nd was. This was about 8 years ago so it was I guess 35 years old at the time.
CX650 Turbo.
https://preview.redd.it/3gml0d9o17ad1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c8edb3365d5313b30acfcecf565fcab39b7dbec2 CB750 for sure!
Ducati 998R is my ultimate dream, but i also love the Honda CB 750 Four.
Neither... https://preview.redd.it/ahpn8n8p87ad1.jpeg?width=2472&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aa54c2f97054e96a5e4366be5646854b0b9e23fd
The DR750 would be perfecto for me
Top gun bike bro !!! No question
Only one.. The longest winning number 1 bike on the world.. From 1969 to 2008 tye bike that won and dominated Flatrack racing championships for decades..Harley Davidson XR750 *
The 1981 CB1100R Honda , would be my pick or a 1974 MV Agusta 750s, if I could pick 2.
I got 1989 GPX750R It’s nice, I like 80s style in motorcycles / cars. But any kind of repair sucks ass. I always take it to my local Kawasaki dealer, chief mechanic there love to work on it as it’s not just swapping parts. Also despite age it have power and speed.
One of those Hondas is for sale locally right now. I want it so bad.
Kz1000
I wanted the GPZ900R because of top gun. I bought the GPZ400R as my first street bike when I got my license as a teen. Maybe one day I’ll pick up the 900.
Aw man, I had that V65 but no fairing. Same color. 1885 leftover for cheap. First shaft drive bike I ever had….and that motor! Good ergos for long days. That bike got RODE. But for this, I’d take the Ninja.
Had an 85 Kawa Ninja 900 aka GPz900 and met my wife on that bike in SoCal. Easy choice for me. Had that!
Honda VF750F
My pops had an 86 Sabre that batch was no joke he scared me so bad on that fkr I’d squeeze his ribs so hard I’d try and break them to keep from falling off the back or jus to get him to slow down that 6 cyl ain’t nothing to play with
Had an 85 GPZ 900, loved it, regret selling it
V65 Magna
I have a V65 Sabre, but with no front faring like the pic above. Love it!
FJ1200
1969 Honda CB750

Bottom Kawasaki Ninja 250 was my first motorcycle
Laverda Jota 1000
V65 Saber is an awesome choice. I realllllly want a V65 Magna
Sabre! That v4 is a monster
Probably Honda Fireblade.
Suzuki RG 250/400/500 any of those and I would baby it
Older bikes are so much more beautiful than newer ones
RD 350
0W01
Used to have a poster on my wall of Mick Doohan on his NSR500 so that would be my choice. It won 5 consecutive GP titles with Doohan and Rossi won his first title on it. It's not street legal and would probably kill me tho.
I have a lot. VMAX, v65 magna, Suzuki Madura 1200, Suzuki TL1000S, Honda RC51, Honda VFR750/800. Honda cbr900s from the 90s, gsxrs from the 90s. To many to list.
The Honda CBX 1000 sort of leaps to mind. Not enough to spend the money to hunt one down but they're still awesome.
'90s CB250 and VFR400R. CBX too Tiny inline 4 revving to the moon and small V4
VF1000F
I had a GPZ1100 back in the early 80s, the only thing that could take me was the V65. I still like the GPZ better.

Why no Harleys listed here? 🤣😅😁
RC45 without question.
Honda Firestorm in yellow Buell XB Lightning in hero blue
Already have one of them, my 1974 Honda CB750K....but would love an old Yamaha FJ1200.
I had a V65 Sabre when I was a weeee lad. What a bike!
1985 Honda Nighthawk CB700SC. It is what the 1980s thought a motorcycle of the future would look like.
Any of the old racing 500cc 2 strokes
I’ve owned three Suzuki RG500’s and one Yamaha RZ500. My last RG was destroyed in a garage fire last year….I miss it. Currently have a Duc1098S and an R6. Two stroke stuff is fun/scary.
RVF400, sadly they were never sold in the UK so they're about 7k to import
laverda 1000 Jota
the 900R is SUCH a good bike, it' a forever bike, it's just so ridiculously good, you really don't need anything else. don't be foolish, hold on to it.
