I have been waiting since at least 2004 for an adaptation of Rendezvous with Rama. He is currently attached to it, and I couldn't think of anyone better. My complaints on some of the aesthetic choices in Dune instantly turn into hopes for Rama. It's like he was made for this movie. Back to waiting...
Prisoners, Sicario, Dune, BladeRunner 2049, guy has made so many great films, one of the few filmmakers I will trust to make a good movie without questions
You’re not kidding. I slept on Sicario and finally watched it this year. I don’t think I’ve recommended a movie to more people than Sicario. It’s dark, and excellent.
Its one of those movies where the 2+ hours go by and you wonder why it's over so soon, thinking it's only been like 45 minutes.
Very captivating film. Hugh and Jake were fantastic, too.
That’s the thing I think people don’t realize…Dano stood toe to toe with Daniel Day Lewis, arguably one of the greatest actors alive, when he was only 22 years old.
Man’s a damn legend of an actor. Riddler, Prisoners, and There Will Be Blood - what an amazing roster.
This.
*Prisoners* is suuuuch a good film, and it doesn’t get the attention that it deserves.
Dano, Jackman, and particularly Gyllenhaal are all absolutely phenomenal.
Arguably Dennis Villanueve’s best film. It’s dark AF, though, and difficult to watch. So visceral.
Incendies is most definitely Villeneuve's best work, and I do love Prisoners. And some of his other stuff. Incendies made such a huge impact on me it's truly wild.
Sometimes I can't quite wrap my head around the fact that the man who made such a fucking bruising, intimate drama is arguably the most pre-eminent sci-fi/fantasy director in Hollywood. I really do wish I could see more of the former, to be honest.
Dude that movie struck me like a thunder....the emotions were deep...i was thinking over and over about that film
Never had any film impacted me like this movie
Just within this past week, when Dumb Money went up on Netflix and his face was plastered on our tv, I got to point to the screen and say to my wife “THAT’s the guy I was saying plays AJ’s friend with the John Lennon glasses!”
There were a few scenes in that movie where I was watching and knowing how Daniel immerses himself in roles - like turbo method - it almost took me out of the film. they were so intense
Dano replaced another actor a couple weeks into shooting because Day-Lewis was going so hardcore in the role the original actor couldn’t match him and chose to drop out. Apparently the bowling scene got really intense with Day-Lewis actually chucking balls wildly for real (which he also did with Dano and made it into the final cut). I forget his name but he wasn’t a big name and also young, he gave a good interview about the experience with Vulture.
Oh he whips a bowling pin. You can tell he's kind of fudging it using the set, but Plainview was also super ripped at that point. He did make him eat that mud tho. God damn did he ever.
He's an incredible actor but that's why I think he was done dirty in The Batman. They shouldn't have hidden him behind that mask and when he is finally revealed I didn't enjoy the tantrum. He is capable of much more than that movie allowed him to do.
Personally, I loved his take on the Riddler. He made a campy character creepy and unnerving. He came off as completely unhinged, which honestly, if your doing a live action depiction of Batman, the villains should be unhinged
This is a L take. He really captured the child like narcissism that comic Riddler has when something doesn't go his way. He always has to be the smartest in the room and when he isn't, his brain doesn't know how to grasp it, leading to the tantrum you see in the film.
Dano's take on the character works with Reeve's vision of Gotham all while staying true to the core characteristics of the Riddler.
So I might be misremembering the story but I heard he was hired to play the smaller part of his barely seen twin in there will be blood. The director saw how good he was and either wrote in a bigger part for him or gave co main to him. The movie was an all time great because of that. He is very good. I saw the new Netflix movie stars him I'm going to watch it just because he is in it.
What's more Dano was only supposed to play Paul Sunday, but the actor playing Eli was so intimidated by DDL on set that he quit the movie. Dano stepped up to keep the production going. In the script the brothers weren't written as twins.
He's the kind of actor who will appear in a secondary role, do a good job and disappear until the next film. That means he's an actor and not a socialite
Personally I’m not drawn to Paul when I see him initially on screen hut damn is he powerful. I think we all loved him and There Will be Blood….poor bastard.
I just tore through War & Peace where he plays the lead role and he was so good. His British accent wasn't bad either. I hope he keeps getting quality roles
His outburst didn't mean anything without his apology.
It showed his willingness to view things outside of his own perspective. That makes every single thing he said extra relevant.
I actually only heard about and watched that movie because I saw that one clip. Just, even without the context of anything in the movie and just that one scene independent was enough for me to want to check it out because the delivery and performance was soo good.
"You can't fly planes if you're color blind."
Steve Carrell was also incredible in that movie. It was such a perfectly cast film, top to bottom.
Greg Kinnear as a dad with failed business ideas. Toni Collette was perfect as the wife holding it all together.
Alan Arkin as the supportive but insane grandpa.
And the whole movie wraps up in 1 hour 40 minutes. Just a perfect film that doesn't drag on, doesn't try to do too much.
One of my top 5.
I said this above, but every time I watch that movie I am in tears during that scene, some kid who was a bit of a twat didn't get the ideal career he wanted, and I was devastated. So many movies try and pander, attempt to make you cry; death scenes, loss, heartache, but Paul Dano playing a mildly obnoxous character who doesn't talk being dealt with not being able to follow his dreams is one of the most emotional scenes I've ever seen.
One of my all time favourite movies, I'm going to watch it again tonight, and I'm going to cry, and you can't stop me.
He’s amazing and looks like a total average joe. It makes him even more interesting. You watch him and wonder why or how he’s so good because Hollywood shoves looks down our throat.
Incredible talent.
What’s really interesting is I always saw him and put him in the same category as barry keoghan (unique/different talent wise) for years. Guys I will pay money to see. Now they team up in Batman and honestly I can’t wait. That is a duo that will make a truly amazing movie together. Keoghans deleted scene in Batman as joker is spectacular.
Cast as the villain in one of the biggest recent Superhero films, and has acted with directors like Steven Spielberg, Paul Thomas Anderson, Bong Joon Ho, Steve McQueen, Denis Villeneuve, etc.
Reddit: This actor is underrated.
He’s incredibly talented and is recognised as such, he isn’t underrated. People need to learn how to use that word properly.
There are so many good roles that he's in and he plays such an absolute piece of shit better than anyone in so many movies... But truly 12 years a slave really got to me. That was fucking unbelievable.
He seems like one of those dudes that is actually the nicest person in the world, but it's just a spectacular actor. But goddamn if he didn't seem like a huge piece of shit in that movie and make it believable... Truly a great actor
I loved watching him get his ass whipped. He played a bitch boy super well. Kinda similar to his There Will Be Blood character. Never thought about it.
Honestly Detroit Rock City is one of my favorites with him
Edit: I stand corrected I just feel they looked fairly simiar to me at least at a young age.
All around he’s damn good actor. In prisoners, he killed it and 12 years a slave makes you think he can be really evil. Rigler in the new Batman was a perfect freaking psycho. And finally him getting a leading role in dumb money, he did everything right and is fun to watch. Also, this clip perfectly depict who he is and how awkward but hilarious. He[Paul Dano in a nutshell](https://youtu.be/jIDh063jLb4?si=DNsnAFKxIeNIjznj) can be right after two minutes to the end is hilarious. Love his awkward pauses
I see that the comments are overwhelmingly positive so it pains me to say that I do not like him. At all. Maybe I just don't like the characters he plays, but every time he's on screen I visibly cringe. Absolutely ruined the newest Batman for me.
knew he was great before I saw it but his role in Batman showed me his range and gave me even more respect for him I think he is an INCREDIBLE actor hugely underrated
Paul Dano was incredible in Prisoners
Absolutely. First thing I saw him in and … wow! That whole movie is excellent.
Denis V. Doesn't miss. Everything that man directs is incredible.
I knew Dune would be in good hands when I saw his name attached to it.
Khal Drogo getting a part was sus, but the first installment was excellent still.
How can you exclude There Will be Blood
[удалено]
But how can you exclude Paddington 2
You’re not kidding. I slept on Sicario and finally watched it this year. I don’t think I’ve recommended a movie to more people than Sicario. It’s dark, and excellent.
Easily the best director of the last 10 years
Probably gonna go down as one of the best directors of all time
I love that movie. I feel like it doesn’t get talked about enough.
Last I saw, Prisoners was on Netflix. I hope it gets the recognition it deserves.
prisoners is fucking amazing
Leaving Netflix in February :( I did just watch it this past weekend and loved it
It flew under the radar by many for sure
If you haven't seen incendies yet, I recommend it. It's pretty heavy and an intense journey. Don't watch trailers.
Its one of those movies where the 2+ hours go by and you wonder why it's over so soon, thinking it's only been like 45 minutes. Very captivating film. Hugh and Jake were fantastic, too.
Even more incredible in Little Miss Sunshine. I straight-up bawled along with him when he learned what he learns in that movie.
The moment where it all clicks is incredibly well acted.
This isn’t a knock on him at all… I thought he actually had some kind of disability. I didn’t know he was a famous actor
Yea, hardest type of role for an actor to play and he nailed it.
Just can’t go full disability.
You never go full disability
Came here to ask if this was the poor soul in that movie.
He’s unbelievable
i still need to see it, but i absolutely loved him as the riddler in the batman
He won me over with the baptism scene in There Will Be Blood. His talent is undeniable.
He held his own with Daniel Day Lewis. Enough said.
Swiss Army Man. The Batman. Little Miss Sunshine.
Prisoners
I too love Prisoners. But I think *Incendies* has a strong case for Villeneuve's best work.
IMO Arrival is his best work
Arrival is such a great movie. Love the short story it was based on as well.
For my money, it's *Enemy* But the fact that we can list this many films and all have a case...Villeneuve is just such a talent.
Don't forget Blade Runner 2049. Box office be damned, that movie was a cinematic masterpiece.
Incendies could be one of the most underrated dramas in the universe. Along with Capernaum (unrelated to Villeneuve)
Dude that movie struck me like a thunder....the emotions were deep...i was thinking over and over about that film Never had any film impacted me like this movie
Little Miss Sunshine for sure.
A lot of people forget that he was awesome in Looper
Little miss sunshine
He didn't have to say a word. He's that good. Hehe
To be fair, he did say "fuck"
One of the best exclamations of fuck I've ever seen.
Most heart wrenching scene in the whole Movie.
the movie that made me fall in love with Dano tbh
The whole cast of that movie shines. They're all pretty amazing.
Everyone in here sleeping on Ruby Sparks...
And you can't deny his fantastic performance as Klitz in the girl next door.
This was the first movie I saw him in!! It was his body they used in the Sex ed video😂
Same. When I saw him in Little Miss Sunshine I was like, "it's Klitz!"
Swiss army man
The opening scene of this film is one of the best opening scenes to a movie ever, up there with Super Troopers.
Even more people forget he was EXCELLENT as AJ’s friend in that one Soprano episode
Just within this past week, when Dumb Money went up on Netflix and his face was plastered on our tv, I got to point to the screen and say to my wife “THAT’s the guy I was saying plays AJ’s friend with the John Lennon glasses!”
I mean, he was in *Looper*, and *Looper* was awesome.
Oh great one!
underrated film in my opinion.
I have a theory that the mud scene was Daniel Day Lewis going super method and his making Dano eat physically eat mud wasn’t the original plan.
I could totally see that. Then maybe Dano put a little extra mustard on the baptism slaps.
Method payback 😂
There were a few scenes in that movie where I was watching and knowing how Daniel immerses himself in roles - like turbo method - it almost took me out of the film. they were so intense

He was great in The Fabelmans too. Man is a fantastic actor.
He's an incredible actor but that's why I think he was done dirty in The Batman. They shouldn't have hidden him behind that mask and when he is finally revealed I didn't enjoy the tantrum. He is capable of much more than that movie allowed him to do.

Don’t bully me, Daniel!!
I drink your milkshake
I DRINK IT UP
Drainaaaaaaaaaaaage!
"DRAAAAIINNNNAAAAGEEE!!!!! DRAINAGE, Eli, you boy. Drained dry, I'm so sorry."
Yeah you're totally right. There is nothing else left to say that doesn't already say it in those simple few words. Brilliant comment!
So I might be misremembering the story but I heard he was hired to play the smaller part of his barely seen twin in there will be blood. Get out of here ghost!
**Ggggggget Ooout of here, ghost!**
Never been able to forget _that_ scene. So unhinged yet he never oversells the performance. That takes true talent.
Personally I’m not drawn to Paul when I see him initially on screen hut damn is he powerful. I think we all loved him and There Will be Blood….poor bastard.
I will drink your milkshake!!!
That’s when I knew he was one to watch, his performance in there will be blood was only outdone by DDL’s tour de force performance of his career.
Yes
Preach. That scene where he gets dragged through the mud and slapped around leaves me shooketh every time.
I just tore through War & Peace where he plays the lead role and he was so good. His British accent wasn't bad either. I hope he keeps getting quality roles
I think the first time he got me was Lil Miss Sunshine as the brother. Good role! Edit: damn, only a year in between. A ton of growth.
He was wonderful in Little Miss Sunshine. Great actor
“You’re not my family! I don’t want to be your family! I hate you fucking people!!”
And then his apology.
His outburst didn't mean anything without his apology. It showed his willingness to view things outside of his own perspective. That makes every single thing he said extra relevant.
The outburst brought a tear to my eye though. I felt his pain and frustration in that moment
I actually only heard about and watched that movie because I saw that one clip. Just, even without the context of anything in the movie and just that one scene independent was enough for me to want to check it out because the delivery and performance was soo good.
The fact that he had no lines for 75% of the movie and his character showed a lot of depth was something else
I haven’t watched it in like 15 years. Isn’t his first line “fuck”?
More like "FUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!"
And then followed by “FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!!!!!”
"You can't fly planes if you're color blind." Steve Carrell was also incredible in that movie. It was such a perfectly cast film, top to bottom. Greg Kinnear as a dad with failed business ideas. I rewatched it recently. Still holds up. Such a great movie
Is that Nietzsche? You don't speak because of Friedrich Nietzsche?
I don’t realize it was him until this post. Mind blown!
It was a great scene when he realizes that we shouldn't send our sister out there in front of these monsters. Amazing actor.
Amazing actor.

Barry is also amazing! His short part in The Green Knight stole the show for me. And Saltburn is one of the best movies I saw last year.
He is great indeed
He nailed Brian Wilson and was good in Dumb Money
Woah no way... He and Brian Wilson had sex?!
Won an AVN award
*Wet Sounds*
Heavy Petting Sounds
*how's* ***them*** *Vibrations, Brian?*
He was lying in bed
Bro crushed it in The Girl Next Door!
Scrolled way too far for this. Hangs dong for the homie
He’ll always be “tripod”
Fuck her for me!!!
That was the other guy
Cuz we're a fuckin tripod!
Fuckin Klitz with a K
2 things: 1. He was awesome in Swiss Army Man. 2. He is married to Zoe Kazan, who is not married to me. And that makes me dislike Paul Dano.
Swiss Army Man, man. Doesnt get enough love. Its everything i want in a movie. Weird. Sad. Happy. Profound. Funny. Interesting. Bizarre. Great flick.
And the music too.
I like to call it a musical. That way I have a favorite musical
They look like siblings
Underrated and very talented. Was especially great in Prisoners.
He was totally great in this role Should be highlited more than that
Might be the most underrated actor currently.
No it’s pretty accurate. The average person has no clue who he is.
I don’t think he’s underrated so much as under appreciated by the mainstream audience. I think most who have seen his work know his talent.
Paul Dano is the mano
is the hand?
Pablo Dand
He was absolutely evil in "12 years a slave". Reportedly it messed him up for a while.
That movie messed me up for a while
He made a really catchy song, though
Same, I was clapping along to it and it was wrong I applaud any movie to challenge me like that
There are so many good roles that he's in and he plays such an absolute piece of shit better than anyone in so many movies... But truly 12 years a slave really got to me. That second paragraph really makes me think of Jack Gleeson too. But Paul Dano is really on another level with some of his performances.
I loved watching him get his ass whipped. He played a bitch boy super well. Kinda similar to his There Will Be Blood character. Never thought about it.
My favorite performance is Brain Wilson from Love & Mercy.
God, yes. He was both inspiring and heartbreaking.
He’s great as Anthony Soprano’s friend when he starts hanging out with the rich girl.
“Rubber Soul in mint condition. This has got to be worth what?”
My pizza never hurt nobody
We shall know forsooth https://youtu.be/2Yz8vlXNtUA?si=DSvnbH9yBym0tMNM
Not a very good bowler.
Probably because he is a false prophet.
Talented character actor
Paul Dano for the win 🏆
He makes me want a milkshake.
But I drink your milkshake! I drink it up! Sluuuuurrrrrp!!
Haven't been disappointed by him yet. His dual characters in There Will Be Blood gave DDL a run for his money. 👍 Edit: spelling
He blew me away in “Little Miss Sunshine”
Killed it as Klitz
what's the one with the potter lad? and he plays a fart boat? or... was potter the fart boat? probably the latter.
Potter was the fart boat.
Great actor, very punch able face. Would recommend
Honestly Detroit Rock City is one of my favorites with him Edit: I stand corrected I just feel they looked fairly simiar to me at least at a young age.
He’s not in that movie
You're right I thought he played Jam my bad. Still a good movie though. I did like him in ten years a slave
What are you talking about? That photo is clearly of Gene Simmons who was definitely in Detroit Rock City
His performance as the Riddler was absolutely spectacular
I have to watch this one again
Classic Paul Dano.
There it is
HE’S THE SLITHERING AFTER BIRTH, ELI
I wanna see him as Bill Hicks in a biopic
Escape At Dannemora is great and Dano, Benicio del Toro and Patricia Arquette are all excellent.
One of the greatest actors of his generation.
Klitz
Moving up my list fast. Loved him in Swiss Army Man and as Riddler, among many other roles
Not Another Teen Movie

Watched him today in “Dumb Money”. Still think “Little Miss Sunshine” was his best work.
Consistently excellent
I kinda want to bash his fucking head in with a bowling pin. Really not sure why.
Can't stand the sight of him. Makes me want to hurl. I also know that this is completely illogical but it is what it is.
I see that the comments are overwhelmingly positive so it pains me to say that I do not like him. At all. Maybe I just don't like the characters he plays, but every time he's on screen I visibly cringe. Absolutely ruined the newest Batman for me.
I like him but do see him over act a bit
Same
I don’t know who the fuck he is but I wanna punch him in the face.
L.I.E. was my introduction to him. First word that comes to mind is underrated. He is a gem.
r/punchableface
knew he was great before I saw it but his role in Batman showed me his range and gave me even more respect for him I think he is an INCREDIBLE actor hugely underrated
I always confuse him with Sam Huntington, was about to quote Not Another Teen Movie
Klitz can do no wrong.
We love Paul Dano here on earth
Very talented actor with a broad range of characters
He’s a really good actor. Escape at Dannemora was fantastic.
Tragically underrated.
Paul Dano is the bees knees, man.
