i saw this opening night midnight. first screening. and when Spider-Pig happened, someone in the audience sang along with the theme based purely from what they had seen in the commercials. and the rest of the theater collectively eye rolled.
It was funny. But it would have been perfection if it'd come about and been released in Simpsons heyday. Simpsons was past its prime by the time this came out.
I don't know at other parts of the world, but here in Spain, Simpsons were a huge thing. HUGE.
Now no one, NO ONE, sees it, and even die hard fans as me won't see any ep. past a certain season. I guess in the USA ppl still watch it, because if not, I don't get how they are on going.
New episodes of the Simpsons? I just checked and it shows that 870K people watched the latest episode. Even if that's all Americans (pop. 340,000,000), that represents less than .0025 percent of America alone. Are you saying I need to have a statistically representative friend group of over 1000 Americans?
I really liked this movie. I also think the show probably should have ended with the movie serving as a grand finale. Sadly that didn’t happen and the show clearly ran out of gas a while ago.
nah I watched up to season 33. it drops in quality around season 12 then picks back up around season 23 or 24 with some decent episodes scattered throughout the whole bad seasons. the new seasons are hilarious
The first 20 or so minutes, maybe half hour were fantastic. Reminded me a bit of the writing in the glory days. Got a bit slow and dragged in the middle, but then came together in the end.
Enjoyed it a lot overall, if a bit inconsistent... but good enough that I've watched it 2-3 times.
Goddam I can’t believe we didn’t get Hank Scorpio. Wasted opportunity. I’d call this the last gasp of the franchise, but that baby has kept right on gasping.
They were contractually obligated to make a movie inside of 20 years. They started making it in the 20th year. Released on the 21st year. It’s just as awesome today as it was in ‘07.
Edited because the comment below was correct. Teach me to math while drinking.
Big memories about this movie. I actually worked in Springfield, VT (The "Springfield" city that won the Home of the Simpsons voting contest) selling cars during the premier. Our dealership was a sponsor, so we were tasked with hanging out at the premier trying to pick up prospects. Middle of July and I was standing out in the hot sun for hours sweating my balls off trying to talk to people. I saw James Brooks and Matt Groening getting mobbed by the crowd. I only knew who Matt was so all I had was one of my business cards and made my way through the crowd and got him to sign my card. He drew a little Bart Simpson on it with a 💬 that said "Yo _____ !" Fill in my name. It was pretty awesome, I still have the card to this day, and the homer statue from the premier still sits in the building by the theatre.
Didn't see it in the theater. I was gifted two copies when it came out. Good movie. I still don't have South Park, Team America, or any Mike Judge movies.
Completely despise it. The wake that confirmed the death of the Simpsons. Maybe hyperbolic but to me the tone, most of the characters and the overall story are just wrong. To me it’s like if AI made a Simpsons movie. Like watching a corpse walk around and pretend to be the person it was when it was alive
This was in theaters. And my girlfriend at the time was so filled with joy at finally seeing the Simpsons on the big screen her joy turned into romance and she romanced me through the third act of the movie. I had to watch it on the small screen to finally see how it ended. Not as romantic as the first time.
Not as good as classic Simpsons, but better than Simpsons at the time. It had iconic moments and definitely was worth. Good movie overall.
Just imagine this film in Simpsons golden era...
Trailer was better than the movie imo.
Remember just waiting for funny jokes on the level of Spider Pig to happen and nothing else really landed. Need to rewatch it with a different mindset sometime
Liked it a lot, haven't re-watched in over a decade. Maybe I'll watch it with my kids this weekend.
On the DVD commentary one of the showrunners mentioned they were nervous that the brief shot of Bart's penis might result in the movie being rated R, but they managed to get by with a PG-13.
No Plopper. If you do that, daddy will die.
Otto smoking a bong was everything. I remember the theater going wild.
I really enjoyed it. Didn't try and be anything apart from a feature length episode.
It had higher stakes than most non-ToH episodes, at the very least.
Spider pig..
…doing whatever a Spider Pig does…
Does he climb on the walls? No he doesn’t cause he’s a pig
This was my top played song in my iTunes for years. ETA: It was this version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iy3kmS5s9gs

things that never happened for 250
I don't know what I would gain by lying about this, but let me know if you do.
😂😂 I too would like to know. Cause it can't be much.
M'spider pig energy 🤠
Came here for this. This joke has been forever immortalized.
Did this lead to Peter Porker (Into the Spiderverse) or was that a thing before?
It was a thing before.
Peter porker was a real comic in the 80’s, that’s where that came from
Spider-Ham!
Love this movie! Nostalgia
It was funny. But it would have been perfection if it'd come about and been released in Simpsons heyday. Simpsons was past its prime by the time this came out.
And it's wild that it came out almost 20 years ago, it was past it's prime, *and* show is still ongoing.
I don’t know a single person who watches it You have to wonder if they’re laundering money through it or something
You dont know enough people or you dont know them enough.

Average viewership is still over 2 million
So .005 % of the us population. Point still stands.
That's not how percentages work, it's 0.5% so about 1 in 200
Ah hell, youre right. I forgot when i Divided to move decimal places when making it a percentage. i Am a product of American public education.
Bad math
From learning Spanish, I've learned it's also latín América. Still is. I think they have a parade in like Argentina or Colombia
That kinda made it pleasantly surprising to me though, that the show was last it's prime but the movie still turned out above average
Yeah there's been some great episodes in the last couple of seasons
It’s a good movie
The first 20 or so minutes, maybe half hour were fantastic. Reminded me a bit of the writing in the glory days. Got a bit slow and dragged in the middle, but then came together in the end. Enjoyed it a lot overall, if a bit inconsistent... but good enough that I've watched it 2-3 times.

The fact that it was the same voice actor as the villain is either a nod to it almost happening or a slap in the face.

The Simpsons would have only been on for 18 years in 2007, it debuted in 1989.
I can’t believe this came out in 2007 (👴🏼)… classic.
This was funny as hell and the story was also really good
🤌✌️
As a lifelong fan, when I saw it in the theater, it was everything I hoped it would be.
Twisted tail! A thousand eyes! Trapped forever! EPA! EPA!
Why couldn't the president just be Rainier Wolfcastle?
I liked it
I enjoyed it. I'm glad that it was made. Too bad that they didn't make one for Family Guy though.
They did....
Yes but, not in the theaters like the Simpsons movie.
They’re finally making one and it’s gonna release this year.
You have so many looks

The Simpsons Movie was great! Bob's Burgers movie sucked a rock.
Too late
The story could have used a firmer grasp but it’s a really enjoyable movie!
Wasnt supposed to be that good
Love it. It and South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut are the best animated show movies.
Loved the Simpsons TV show, thought that movie wasn’t that great.
Worse day of your life so far
Really funny when I saw it in the theater, not so great when I watched it a 2nd time at home
Way after the Simpsons golden era, where Homer was trying way too hard.
Ehhhh, it was ok, definitely better than episodes leading up to it, but still too many jokes based on the situation not actual jokes.
"still too many jokes based on the situation not actual jokes." What do you mean? Could you elaborate?
Meh. I said. Meh.
It was awful. It killed the simpsons
It was decent, didn't need to be a movie though, could have easily been a 3 part tv episode
One of the few things Simpsons, pre season 10, I've ever only seen once. If it was done earlier it would've been much better imo. Not bad but meh
I liked it, but it should have been the ending of the show entirely.
cash grab
https://youtu.be/1qLHb2GxL2Q
oh shit, the the film was for a charity event! I take it back,it's great they are doing something for the less fortunate.
It should've been released 10 years earlier.
It was ok. Think I've only seen it once. Still not really sure who wanted it.
Sht, like the show.
It's been awhile since I have seen it. I am not a Simpsons fan but I remember it being definitely one of the better ones then their recent stuff
I saw this movie in theaters with my dad when I was a kid. It had both of us cracking up. Watched it again recently and it still holds up. Good movie.
That could have been anyone's pig crap silo!
It was great. Super enjoyable.
LOVED it
Was actually a decent movie
Great movie kinda the end I rarely watch simpsons. Still love me south park or fam guy

I didn’t watch it for a long time after it came out. After I did, feels like it was a launching point for their new animation style.
Not as good as classic Simpsons, but better than Simpsons at the time. It had iconic moments and definitely was worth. Good movie overall. Just imagine this film in Simpsons golden era...
Went to see it in the cinemas! I think it is like 3/5
It's fine. Happened way too late though, the iron was pretty cold. Still some good bits even if it isn't on classic Simpsons level.
Trailer was better than the movie imo. Remember just waiting for funny jokes on the level of Spider Pig to happen and nothing else really landed. Need to rewatch it with a different mindset sometime
The quote, "I was chosen to lead not to read" Still pops in my head on a regular basis.
I absolutely love it and have rewatched it many times. Rewatch-ability is top tier for me with this one.
A great last gasp from the classic Simpsons. 8.5/10
Better than it had any business being. The show itself had already gone stale for years. They really served up a proper steamed ham with this one.
It’s ok
Such a good movie
EEEEEEPA!
“To be continued…Immediately”
Meh
It’s the longest episode of the Simpsons I’ve ever seen.
Hilarious - a return to form, since the series went off the rails after the first decade.
Should have been the end of the series
Its a good intro to the series or want to get a feel for the simpson universe.
Eh, it was OK. A couple of proper brilliant moments but a lot of rubbish too. If I never see it again, I won't lose any sleep about it
Pretty good. Actually.
It's the best Simpson's movie... Best Simpson's movie *so* *far*...
"There's something strange about that 'Sop' sign..."
it was probably the last time i watched the simpsons.
Surprisingly better than expected. Kudos!!!
