If it’s any consolation, Monica Bellucci was in complete control of that entire scene. She controlled how far they could go with it, when to cut, and how depraved it became. When you think about it, it’s pretty fucking badass for a woman to take control of such a fucked up and traumatic scene.
Having said all this, my immediate horror turned into absolute rage and I wanted to rip the head off of that actor after watching that scene. It goes to show how well they did their jobs I suppose. But man, I’ve never felt rage like that watching a movie.
Such a rough watch. I do kinda appreciate both of those movies for not shying away from how painful, terrifying and prolonged situations like those can be, though.
was unaware of that. that’s awesome tho, thank you for sharing. it’s easily one of the most impactful films i’ve seen. iirc I Stand Alone has a tie in the beginning, which is an interesting choice. not sure if it was another Gaspar Noé film. in any case, respect and salutations u/MrPoopyButtholesAnus 🫡
The rape scene was truly disgusting, the end made less of an impact on me, got what he deserved (...)
But the opening of the movie though, which made made to make the viewer basically uncomfortable.
I nearly stopped the movie there, I thought it was something wrong with my disc :-P
....
That's actually pretty mindblowing!
I only watched this movie once; it isn't really something that you're eager to see again, and the scene at the bar was, as I remember it, very dark and confusing.
Did some digging, and I'm so silly...they're manipulated into killing the wrong dude, which makes the whole thing even worse... :-s
Feel a bit silly, but its about time I got the...picture.
I heard about that and it is the reasonwhy I won't watch it. The worse rape scene I saw before that was from the grindhouse film Day of the Woman (I spit on your grave).
I’ve read that in Irreversible, Noe added this background sound with a low frequency (kinda like a constant vibration) that induces feelings of nauseousness and vertigo in humans.
I’ve heard that, and It’s enough to keep me away from his stuff. Saw climax and Into the Void. If climax is tame, I don’t need any more. Movie fucked me up
Right? I thought Climax was pretty fun compared to his other movies lol Love his work but I’ll probably never watch any of them again. One time and they stick with you for life.
I went into the it not knowing a single thing about it. My wife knew the premise. This caused it to fuck me up and feel like I was on the bad trip with everyone. It was horrifying.
Great film.
The first one is a great movie, the acting, the script.
The second is a just fucking brutal, man. I passed out the last 5 minutes.
3rd is just making fun of itself, stil kinda brutal but just stupid
The first one feels kinda like hostel, like just outlandish and crazy for the sake of it. The second one, I don’t know what it is but it just feels so much more visceral and real to me. That guy who played the main character was amazing
The 2nd one was smack dab between the serious first attempt and the silly over-the-top closing 3rd chapter in terms of gravitas. I thought that was interesting.
The 2nd one is the only one that held my interest. Clever concept about someone watching the first movie and making it "in real life" in the most demented way possible. The first one is tame in comparison. When he hammers their teeth out. And all the stuff about his childhood abuse. They keep playing something his mom said
Man, fuck those movies. I enjoyed watching the first one about much as I would having Mengele over as a dinner guest. Just devoid of anything human or decent.
I saw this when I was way too young, probably still in primary school. Me and my cousin were into horror movies and thought this one was just another flick. We didn’t go near another horror movie for awhile after that. Straight fucked us up.
Explaining would not do it justice. I am sure you could find the scene online. This girl is trying to ignore her cravings for meat so she does some weird things. One of those things includes eating her own hair which eventually has to come out and when it does, it’s disturbing!
Honestlyyyyyy. As a 12 year old, I left that film sobbing and promising to be like the most compliant christian ever. Cut to today... not at all the case. Like, the opposite. 😂
I went to a sleepover in grade 3 and I think my buddies parents rented it for us thinking it was a movie for kids. I was a pretty innocent kid but was scarred and scared shitless after. Can’t even remember what happens in it anymore but when I think about it, I get a visceral reaction still.
Came here to say this. I'm guessing people today wouldn't have the same reaction that we had seeing it in the late 90s. Being the height of the AIDS panic we had fear of the disease thrown at us constantly. Seems people don't even talk about it anymore. That movie messed me up at the time.
Came here for Todd Solondz - Happiness, Storytelling (i had both of these on VHS). And one I saw more recently that made me want to wretch was Dark Horse.
Also, Funny Games (both versions).
I still consider each of these to be great movies, except dark horse. Just thinking about it makes me wanna blow groceries.
One time I mentioned American Psycho to my ex as being hilarious and she almost dumped me she was so offput lol. Tried explaining how it's satire, etc. but she just took it at face value when she saw it.
Watched that for the first time a couple weeks ago. Disgusting from the jump, both physically and the character of the husband.
Great movie with amazing aesthetics. RIP Michael Gambon.
Most of Noe and von Trier films I have seen. Irreversible had worse scenes, but Climax was more anxiety and nausea inducing overall.
Most recently Love Lies Bleeding, it wasn't bad overall, but one scene where her veins really popped from the steroids made me feel a bit sick.
I also saw it around 10 and had to turn it off. It was too overwhelming. Couldn't sleep that night. I'm pretty sure I've never had another movie do that to me where it actively haunted me and prevented me from my normal activites haha (at least nearly as much)
The first ten minutes were some of the most...I don't know how to describe it. Maybe unsettling/disturbing. The scene of the firefighters entering the house followed by Florence Pugh's screams were so awful.
Then it got boring for 45 minutes, then beautiful, then freaky and ultra-violent, then horrifying.
My husband and I watched this on our outdoor projector in the backyard. We had to turn it off midway through because I just know our neighbors were just looking over going “wtf?”
I went into it with no idea what to expect and it was a pretty unforgettable experience. I guess the opening scene should have tipped me off what to expect. I've since watched Hereditary and Beau Is Afraid. Still won't rewatch Midsommar.
This movie and “bad boy bubby” are their own kind of twisted. Bubby is worse, though I don’t recommend actually watching it. You can read the whole plot on the wiki and it still won’t prepare you for it, maybe stop you from watching it perhaps (you can get Ill just reading the plot).
Adding one weird thing: while watching the movie for the first time at a certain scene a buddy laughed and said “junkyard date” and it instantly became the new name of their band. It was rather catchy for an early 2000s garage rock/punk band.
Kids. An old movie about a group of druggie kids raping each other, passing around STDs, and getting high. Took a first date there as the movie was getting a lot of buzz. Last time we spoke.
I snuck out of bed and watched The Deer Hunter while my parents were asleep many years ago. It still sits with me to this day whenever I see the poster.
This was bad especially the last 30 minutes.
That being said, the actress who plays the pregnant woman in this is gorgeous. The French are truly blessed
Enter The Void. Especially the intro credits, thank god I’m not epileptic or else that wouldn’t have been a good time. Also my personal fave movie, Requiem For A Dream.
Oh man this movie was a lot to take in. Watched noe’s other films too. He’s always got an element of intensity for whatever he’s doing. Not sure I actually like it, but the shock factor is there lol.
The film Hostel comes to mind. Only because I haven’t seen The Human Centipede yet lol.
All the others mentioned here I haven’t felt physically ill or nauseous, but Hostel definitely did and it left a bad taste in my mouth for a day or two.
American hustle. Jesus Christ I was half way into the movie and had no idea what was going on. How does a movie get made when over half of it is music montages of characters doin things. This isn’t oceans eleven.
Dogtooth.
Yorgos Lanthimos either deeply inspires (Poor Things and The Favourite are some of my all time faves, can’t help but be amused by The Lobster) or frustrates me to the point of nausea, lol
Saving Private Ryan… in particular the beach scene. *Particularly* the fellow picking up his arm that had been blown off.
The movie alone is nightmarish. Can’t / don’t want to imagine the reality.
127 Hours. I almost fainted when he finally did it. I think it's a combination of the sound design and the fact that the movie really has you putting yourself in his shoes and thinking about what it would be like if it was you.
Wake In Fright. Brings back all the peer pressure and toxic masculinity I remember experiencing growing up in small town and the excessive drinking I did well into my late 20’s.
I spit on your grave. It's just a movie you can't unsee. Years later, it still haunts me out of nowhere. I'm not sure anything even comes close, including noe movies.
I am extremely phobic of needles and other sticking objects, so I most movies where people are seen doing needle drugs or getting blood transfusions etc make my stomach a little weak.
Watch Man Bites Dog a few days ago, and while its brutality is often made out to be comedic, the scene where he smothers the kid to death, and the drunken gang rape scene was really pushing it.
French movie called Irreversable… fire extinguisher scene..
The rape scene was worse I think
If it’s any consolation, Monica Bellucci was in complete control of that entire scene. She controlled how far they could go with it, when to cut, and how depraved it became. When you think about it, it’s pretty fucking badass for a woman to take control of such a fucked up and traumatic scene. Having said all this, my immediate horror turned into absolute rage and I wanted to rip the head off of that actor after watching that scene. It goes to show how well they did their jobs I suppose. But man, I’ve never felt rage like that watching a movie.
Thankfully, times have changed since filming Last Tango in Paris.
Thank fuck. Happy to hear this, MrPoopyButtholeAnus!
Oooooo weeeeeee
That movie was… yeah #scarred went in as a Belucci lover and didn’t expect any of that
Haven’t seen it, but if it comes anywhere near Sarah Butler’s performance, similarly controlled, in “I Spit On Your Grave”, i need a gummy in advance.
This is not a movie to watch lightly.
Man you’re watching a brutal rape and it just keeps going on and on and on I wanted to melt in my chair in the theater
The rape scene was truly disgusting, the end made less of an impact on me, got what he deserved (...) But the opening of the movie though, which made made to make the viewer basically uncomfortable. I nearly stopped the movie there, I thought it was something wrong with my disc :-P
"got what he deserved"....its the wrong guy!!!
He was still trying to rape Vincent Cassel when he got smashed
:-s Feel a bit silly, but its about time I got the...picture.
Ehh that guy seemed like a piece of shit too
I heard that when it aired in theaters, it wasn’t uncommon for people to walk out at that scene. It lasted so long
I don't blame them. I remember getting somewhat nauseous myself, glad I didn't watch it on the "big screen" actually.
Yep one of my first ever times smoking weed and we watched that, binaural beats in the gay club sent me Ill
By design. Camera work and audio frequency to make the viewer nauseous. Serious levels.
I would never smoke weed again
I heard about that and it is the reasonwhy I won't watch it. The worse rape scene I saw before that was from the grindhouse film Day of the Woman (I spit on your grave).
Yeah, the underground walkway scene right?
Yes
Monica Bellucci if I remember correctly? 🤔
Same director as Climax. Seems like nausea is his specialty.
I’ve read that in Irreversible, Noe added this background sound with a low frequency (kinda like a constant vibration) that induces feelings of nauseousness and vertigo in humans.
Thomas Bangaltar of Daft Punk made the score for that film, including the sound you’re referring to.
Marilyn manson did something similar with the first resident evil iirc
The soundtrack to that movie was fantastic
Like the Brown Note?
The music in The Exorcist was blended with sounds of angry bees and pigs being slaughtered.
Gaspe Noe directed Climax too. But yeah, Irreversible is a great movie I never want to see again
Yeahh I agree. >!It was such a genius idea to tell the movie backwards. Then as it ends on a happy note it makes you feel so bad.!<
Climax, IMO, was considerably more restrained than other Noe movies.
It felt like *I* was having a bad trip along with the characters… and those long tracking shots. Truly felt nauseous and horrified lol
The way the communal dance in the first third was shot had me hooked even if the film went berserk from that point forward.
Excellent film if only just for that. I did enjoy the rest of it (took me some time to deal with it though)
Yeah, that dance scene was dope, and I’m not usually a fan of that sort of thing. But you could just feel the raw talent.
Also the one that parties the hardest
I went into the it not knowing a single thing about it. My wife knew the premise. This caused it to fuck me up and feel like I was on the bad trip with everyone. It was horrifying. Great film.
Human centipede doesn't matter which one Edit: spelling lol
There is absolutely nothing humane about any of those films... ;)
Hahaha. I'll go back and fix. Was in a hurry. Thanx!!
All good. I've only seen the first, and I agree. Such an uneasy film to watch. Why did I subject myself to that?
The first one is a great movie, the acting, the script. The second is a just fucking brutal, man. I passed out the last 5 minutes. 3rd is just making fun of itself, stil kinda brutal but just stupid
The first one feels kinda like hostel, like just outlandish and crazy for the sake of it. The second one, I don’t know what it is but it just feels so much more visceral and real to me. That guy who played the main character was amazing
The second one is genuinely one of the most repugnant films ever made.
I mean that is the point of the movie
You may want to skip this season of The Boys, then.
You know the director said he made that movie just because but honestly, I'm thinking it was just a fetish he wanted to get onto screen.
Martyrs
This one really affected me. I've seen every most of the movies in this list and sometimes it gets a little icky, but Martyrs had me terrified.
When she goes in the basement I felt the illest of the whole movie. It was just aw fuck.
I saw this when I was way too young, probably still in primary school. Me and my cousin were into horror movies and thought this one was just another flick. We didn’t go near another horror movie for awhile after that. Straight fucked us up.
Requiem for a Dream
Raw. French movie. The hair scene. Enough said!!
What happens?
Explaining would not do it justice. I am sure you could find the scene online. This girl is trying to ignore her cravings for meat so she does some weird things. One of those things includes eating her own hair which eventually has to come out and when it does, it’s disturbing!
The finger scene 💀
Ooh good choice
Did you see Titane by the same director? Not quite as puke worthy but so so good!
Oh crud. This is on my watch list too. I am now slightly concerned. lol
Hahaha! Do it!!! Lol. 😂
Anti Christ
Oof, our friend lost movie picking rights after that one. Disturbing
Felt sick when the guy got his dick smashed for sure.
🩸
✂️
Passion of The Christ. Should not have watched that as a child. Lol.
Low key torture porn.
Honestlyyyyyy. As a 12 year old, I left that film sobbing and promising to be like the most compliant christian ever. Cut to today... not at all the case. Like, the opposite. 😂
Not low key. The most famous torture of all ‘time’
Jeez when they pulled out the spiked flail. Ugh.
GIVE ME BACK MY $18!!!
Kids. The skateboard scene. And the rest too but that one sticks in my mind from when I was a young teen.
I went to a sleepover in grade 3 and I think my buddies parents rented it for us thinking it was a movie for kids. I was a pretty innocent kid but was scarred and scared shitless after. Can’t even remember what happens in it anymore but when I think about it, I get a visceral reaction still.
Oh my god, 3rd grade?! I think I was in middle school and was scarred. I can’t imagine.
I have no legs, I have no legs
Came here to say this. I'm guessing people today wouldn't have the same reaction that we had seeing it in the late 90s. Being the height of the AIDS panic we had fear of the disease thrown at us constantly. Seems people don't even talk about it anymore. That movie messed me up at the time.
Into the Void, *it's Enter the Void. Requiem for a Dream
I thought it was called Enter the Void, and I very stupidly watched this in high school while high on mushrooms during Halloween.
Edited thanks.
Into the Spiderverse is what you were thinking of
Sorry to interrupt, but you’re thinking of Into The Great Wide Open by Tom Petty.
How was your double trip? I was completely sober during my first watch and I felt like I was having flashbacks by the end.
Into the Void is the only movie I have genuinely unenjoyed watching
I thought that mountaineering one was "Touching the Void"
**I** 2nd Requiem; several scenes :/
Bone Tomahawk really messed with me the first time I saw it. Fucking terrifying and "that" scene stuck with me for a while.
TO THIS DAY. TO THIS DAY.
Happiness. Many people needed a shower after that one.
I came 😊 🍆 💦👅🐕
Inside. French horror movie. It’s just nightmare inducing. I second Martyrs.
YUP Inside is fucked. Amazing movie but not for those new to/unaware of French extremity. Haven’t looked at a knitting needle the same since
Mother
Every time someone sat on the sink my anxiety shot through the roof.
My girlfriend almost broke up with me after we saw that movie in theaters.
One time I mentioned American Psycho to my ex as being hilarious and she almost dumped me she was so offput lol. Tried explaining how it's satire, etc. but she just took it at face value when she saw it.
She completely missed the point of the movie then, you dodged a bullet, friend
I’ve hosted a couple of screenings of The Cook The Thief His Wife and Her Lover. Some friends complained it made them ill.
Watched that for the first time a couple weeks ago. Disgusting from the jump, both physically and the character of the husband. Great movie with amazing aesthetics. RIP Michael Gambon.
Hostel tried pretty hard to reach Serbian Film levels
Didn’t Hostel come out like five years before A Serbian Film? Or was I just gaslit 9000 times?
Meant it more like Hostel tried to reach the levels Serbian Film reached.
The House That Jack Built is pretty rough.
Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance. The scene where he's listening to her through the wall, sick shit.
The Exorcist when I was 10. It was so overwhelmingly terrifying it took me several years to revisit it
I also saw it around 10 and had to turn it off. It was too overwhelming. Couldn't sleep that night. I'm pretty sure I've never had another movie do that to me where it actively haunted me and prevented me from my normal activites haha (at least nearly as much)
Hardcore Henry gives me motion sickness. Tried to finish it twice but nope.
Midsommar made me want to throw up
which part
yes
Every part. A whole if you will.
Went into this movie sight unseen, and I was NOT prepared for any of it. I'm so glad that I saw it, but I don't think I have a need for a rewatch.
I went into it with no idea what to expect and it was a pretty unforgettable experience. I guess the opening scene should have tipped me off what to expect. I've since watched Hereditary and Beau Is Afraid. Still won't rewatch Midsommar.
Midsommar had me unsettled as fuck but it was a good time
Sounds like the Protagonist’s thoughts on the movie too.
Shrek
Dude don’t even bring that one up
Gummo. The bathtub spaghetti.
Hereditary
Toni Collette’s crying alone felt like a gut punch
Never saw A Serbian Film, but read the synopsis and put it on my “hell no” list.
I was subjected to it. Yeah, you ain’t missing a thing but the greasy feeling and the knot in your stomach by the end of it.
This movie I recently watched called Pleasure. Further confirming why I don’t watch porn.
Teeth should be added it’s about vagina dentata
Opening scene of Ghost Ship… also the brain eating scene in Hannibal
Incendies. Oof.
Requiem for a Dream
Such an amazing movie. And I'll never watch it again.
The whole Noe's filmography, especially *I stand alone*
Lux Æterna is pretty tame compared to the rest.
I snuck out of bed and watched The Deer Hunter while my parents were asleep many years ago. It still sits with me to this day whenever I see the poster.
A Serbian Film
Saltburn.
Oof yeah 😬 that scene near the end in the hospital bed was intense
Was it the bathtub or the "vampire" scene?
For me the bathtub scene was the worst of everything.
I’ve seen many horror movies featuring many truly awful things but the bath tub scene really got to me
What about the bathtub scene from " I spit on your grave" 🥺😫😭
Same, even now I am getting queasy remembering that scene. The whole movie was pretty screwy though!
Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer. It doesn't get more revolting than that.
Clockwork Orange
I'm too afraid to watch it, and I hate when YouTubers show the eyelid scene as a joke. Ugh I hate seeing that
Oh man this movie was a lot to take in. Watched noe’s other films too. He’s always got an element of intensity for whatever he’s doing. Not sure I actually like it, but the shock factor is there lol.
Not a horror, but 'The Cook, The Thief, His Wife And Her Lover'. Michael Gambon's character is so disturbingly vile I wouldn't want to see it again.
Uncut Gems
Gravity. Great movie but motion sickness from sitting too close in the theatre
The hobbit films with the silly frame rates
Uncut Gems, spent money on the criterion Blu ray and watched it once. I was standing and pacing for most of it and it gave me heartburn
The film Hostel comes to mind. Only because I haven’t seen The Human Centipede yet lol. All the others mentioned here I haven’t felt physically ill or nauseous, but Hostel definitely did and it left a bad taste in my mouth for a day or two.
The Blair Witch Project, but that was literal motion sickness due to the shaky cam
the bus scene in the most recent texas chainsaw massacre
The neon demon… Still makes me feel sick thinking about it.
Saltburn
Eraserhead. But in a good way, if that makes any sense.
Climax made me realize that I can absolutely hate a fucking movie even though it was good.
[удалено]
Seven or Se7en I guess. So disturbing.
American hustle. Jesus Christ I was half way into the movie and had no idea what was going on. How does a movie get made when over half of it is music montages of characters doin things. This isn’t oceans eleven.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Cabin Fever Shaving scene.
The curb scene from American History X
Won’t watch it…so brutal
These comments are a treasure trove of masturbation material
That monologue of Ann Hathaway from Interstellar about love. I nearly passed out, i swear
The Cell.
Dogtooth. Yorgos Lanthimos either deeply inspires (Poor Things and The Favourite are some of my all time faves, can’t help but be amused by The Lobster) or frustrates me to the point of nausea, lol
Calígula, back in the day was awful. Now compared to movies, it was nothing.
Trainspotting
Saving Private Ryan… in particular the beach scene. *Particularly* the fellow picking up his arm that had been blown off. The movie alone is nightmarish. Can’t / don’t want to imagine the reality.
Ichi the Killer was probably the most physically and mentally revolting movie I've seen. Makes me wanna puke
Funny games
127 Hours. I almost fainted when he finally did it. I think it's a combination of the sound design and the fact that the movie really has you putting yourself in his shoes and thinking about what it would be like if it was you.
Salo' hands down the most disturbing movie. Multiple fucked up scenes
Black Swan. I remember feeling a bit dizzy and nauseous when it ended
A Serbian Film
Oddly enough, I almost fainted during The Shape of Water. That finger scene was gnarly!
Mother. The baby being passed around scene.
"Climax is the one movie I regret watching right before bed." - A highly anxious person.
I felt ill because this movie was absolute garbage.
The scene in Schindler's List where the kids were hiding in the outhouse pit from the Nazi's was pretty shocking.
The Captain’s Dinner scene in Triangle of Sadness had me literally gagging. I just can’t. Great movie though 😅
