The "holy trinity" of good bad movies—_Troll 2, The Room_ and _Birdemic_ —all share one extremely important facet: Their creators had no idea whatsoever that they were making something that would go down in legend for being bad. But in the case of _Birdemic II,_ this was understood perfectly well, and thus the same magic was fundamentally impossible to attain.
Manos is weird because it still manages to be scary, not by being a good horror movie (it isn’t) but by being so strange and haunted and alien that it feels like you’re watching a cursed video tape. In the words of MST3K, every frame looks like someone’s last known photograph
Bolex cameras, which is what Manos was filmed on, are odd to film a feature on. They have a coil crank that propels the film to run through the camera. They don't use electricity. Depending on the condition of the camera the film you run through it will run slightly fast in the early frames of a shot and gradually get a bit slower. Also, the cameras do not record sound.
It makes the movie look like someone's basement-stored slide collection after being exposed to sunlight for a bit. Like the MST3K guys said, they look like a dead and forgotten person's photo collection.

The story of how _Manos_ got a better-than-VHS transfer is an extremely interesting one that I followed from the day the print was found till it was finally released on bluray. It really needs a 4K transfer though.
Don't forget the Apple (1980) a musical where the devil runs a music company, signs up a hippie and gives her speed until she literally sings about how she needs speed and loves it, the record company takes over the world and in the end God brings hippies up to heaven in a rolls royce.

Just wanted to say "thanks" for introducing me to this. Because it apparently _does_ have a proper Rifftrax, so my evening's plans are now set in stone.
Ed Wood also made _Bride of the Monster/Atom_ and a few others, most of which have gotten a MST3K and/or Rifftrax treatment, so I tend to consider his body of work to be sort of its own thing. But by all means, it fits the bill. Maybe _Glen or Glenda_ moreso than anything else he did.
I hate to be a party pooper, but this isn't going to be good/bad in the way The Room is. It's going to be bad/bad because Tommy is in on the joke now, so he's going to try to be funny and it's going to be horrible.

Idunno, I saw Twisted Pair in theater and at the end when the hokey stock “triumphant” music is playing and he gives his “everyone has the right to be loved” speech, and he points to his heart and says “I’ll be right… *here*,” the crowd went NUTS. Standing ovation, CHEERING. It was one of the most emotional moments I’ve ever experienced with a crowd, *especially* at a movie.
Like sure, every person there was there in some degree of irony, but for a moment we were all united in this actual, authentic moment, in response to a scene that is, at face value, *bad*. That’s when I realized Breen is tapped into something transcendent, almost in spite of himself.

I really really wish it wasn’t split into 2 movies. I think it would have been a great 90 minute film, instead the pacing is way too slow for the story.
He randomly came to our class last semester…we weren’t even watching the room but he was an interesting guy. Has dealt pretty well with being asked about Tommy non stop his whole career and does a spot on impression of him. But there was zero mention of this film or anything he was working on with Tommy so who knows.

I just had a Q&A with him the other day, less than a week ago, and he said the same thing. So either he's not in it or he's hiding the fact he's in it.
The two are still very close, at least on a professional level. They’ve done tours together for Room screenings, Q&A’s, meet-and-greets, etc. Once they decided to embrace the memes they’ve been fairly successful together.

He’s had some roles here and there, but nothing too major. He definitely makes good money off merchandise sales from screenings of The Room - even though Wiseau’s insanity on screen is the selling point of the movie, Sestero is a draw to those in his own right. There was a fairly good line for autographs at a screening I recently attended.

Not at all. Best F(r)iends is unironically pretty solid. Greg Sestero wrote the script and seems to be the only person on earth capable of writing a role Tommy is actually capable of doing
I really really wish it wasn’t split into 2 movies. I think it would have been a great 90 minute film, instead the pacing is way too slow for the story.
That's a fair critique, it absolutely has pacing issues. But I still find the overall experience ultimately enjoyable.

He randomly came to our class last semester…we weren’t even watching the room but he was an interesting guy. Has dealt pretty well with being asked about Tommy non stop his whole career and does a spot on impression of him. But there was zero mention of this film or anything he was working on with Tommy so who knows. Pretty sure he was trying to put the moves on my single prof.
He did a Facebook thing years ago where he hosted a watch party for members of a The Room fan group, and he commentated throughout. It was so much fun, dude is hilarious.

Given that Scheer is on a podcast with his wife and Jason Mantzoukas called How Did This Get Made, and all of them were involved in The Disaster Artist, I'm not that surprised.
Unfortunately, I saw a screening of The Room with Greg like a year ago and he said he didn't hear anything about him being in Big Shark after the trailer... they could have filmed some scenes with him since then, but im guessing if Sestero is in it at all it'll prolly be only be a cameo unfortunately
I just had a Q&A with him the other day, less than a week ago, and he said the same thing. So either he's not in it or he's hiding the fact he's in it.

The two are still very close, at least on a professional level. They’ve done tours together for Room screenings, Q&A’s, meet-and-greets, etc. Once they decided to embrace the memes they’ve been fairly successful together.
We met with him last semester and they aren’t “that” close. The way he talked about Tommy was much more cordially. Seemed more accepting that it’s always gonna be there and less “we’re best friends”..like putting up with something because it’s literally unavoidable
The Disaster Artist described a pretty toxic friendship. He’s gonna have to tell us how he learned to tolerate him. Greg is kind of Tommy’s only friend, and Tommy is Greg’s only career prospect apart from modeling.

Has Sestero actually had any kind of career out of The Room to begin with though? Wiseuau is the selling point in here after all.
He’s had some roles here and there, but nothing too major. He definitely makes good money off merchandise sales from screenings of The Room - even though Wiseau’s insanity on screen is the selling point of the movie, Sestero is a draw to those in his own right. There was a fairly good line for autographs at a screening I recently attended.
The Disaster Artist was a New York Times Bestseller and he probably made a good chunk of change optioning the rights to the movie.
He does a great Wiseau for the audiobook.

I did a major double take when he showed up in the Haunting of Bly Manor. He’s only in a couple episodes as a fairly minor character though.

Ugh..another one of those floating shark posters. I know that the shark has to appear on the poster due to contractual obligations, but why can't they be more creative with it. Back in my days posters used to be imaginative and artistic. None of this floating heads shit. I'm tellin ya creativity is officially dead in Hollywood.
