I could kiss you. Lord of war was my favorite movie at 14 years old and now I’m 30 and I still have it memorized. War dogs ripped off so many scenes and I think the craziest I’ve ever looked in my life was when I made my husband watch both scenes side by side after we got comfortable together. Still going strong 😂
I likened War Dogs to Wolf of Wall Street except with gun running instead of stock trading. Jonah Hill practically played the same exact character.
Lord of War is a good option, too. All three movies are shitty humans being shitty humans in order to make money.
I thought the same thing lol. Similar to how I kinda thought Catch Me if You Can & Wolf of Wall Street for Leo was slightly similar, moreso as a unofficial "finessing the system" connection
Natural Born Killers is pure terrifying energy from start to finish.
Not for the faint of heart, though. It’s a deeply cynical and pervasively violent experience but it is a breathtaking movie.
Incredible soundtrack as well. I believe the first time Trent Reznor produced a movie soundtrack and that is now his bread and butter.
Ok, got it. But sounds more like what today would be the job of a „Music Supervisor“, as in collecting pre released stuff, mix it up with some unreleased and/or songs written specifically for the movie. Not what he is doing nowadays, which is proper scoring. Guess that‘s what confused me.
Well, you said producing was now his bread and butter. Which it really isn‘t. It‘s scoring. And though sometimes a producer is also the composer and performer, it doesn’t mean that a producer is the one in charge of every aspect of the production. They are different things. Because you said producing was his bread and butter nowadays, I assumed that you misused the word in the sense that he was also composer and performer on NBK, as he is nowadays.
Yeah for sure. Over the years, the meaning of the movie changed for me too. When I was a teen, it was soooo cool to become a drug dealer. Then it was like a Yolo, get rich or die trying. Now it's just kinda sad to watch him lose everything.
I kinda got the same feeling with The Wolf on Wallstreet cause at first I was like heck yeah drugs and money. But now I'm like, this dude is just an addict and he's alone because he surrounded himself with assholes, and he also lost everything lol
[Kid Cannabis](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0780548/) - true story about a group of 20 somethings smuggling weed across the border from Canada by walking through the woods.
I call these ‘Rise and Demise’ movies.
Boogie Nights
Blow
Wolf of WallStreet
Catch Me If You Can
Scarface
Lord of War
Really any movie where the protagonist starts from the bottom, flys too close to the sun and loses it all.
Me and my boys

recommend watching the original movie Haromhara, which inspired War Dogs
Maybe not similar, but if the comical side of defense acquisitions interests you (as a defense contractor, that’s what I love about War Dogs), try Pentagon Wars…I believe it was an HBO Original from the late 80s with Kelsey Grammer…hilarious, partially true, and very entertaining!
Lord of war
Lord of War is better than War Dogs imo
100%
1000%
It is like a literal copy too lol

The person Jonah Hill portrays in War Dogs was inspired directly by Lord of War. They replace it with Scarface in the movie.

I’m saying the real life person that War Dogs is based on was inspired to sell weapons because of the movie Lord Of War

Thank you... But I prefer it my way
That movie, it’s a real bath of blood.
No... Lord of War. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lord\_of\_War](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lord_of_War)
Sicario, american made.
American Made is like Goodfellas but by Ethan Hunt.
That movie is such a banger. 🔥
Sicario was made by a French Canadian.
oh no
Sacre bleu!
Nono a French Canadian, not a Frenchman. The correct exclamation would be : TABARNAK!

Lord of War was very good. It'll scratch that gun running itch, but dunno if it's adrenaline rush.
Three Kings has a similar vibe IMO.
Pain and Gain
Agreed Very similar tone and structure
Good answer

Did he produce the soundtrack? I always thought they just used some NIN songs.

You were confused by my correct use of the word ‘produce’ so you assumed I wrote ‘scored’?

war dogs is Todd Phillips doing a Scorsese, so you can start there.

GoodFellas, Casino, Wolf of Wallstreet. Just the structure, the ferocity of the filmmaking & the general vibes.
War Machine with Brad Pitt scratches a similar itch.
