Because the lines proceeding it are:
“But if I stay here with you girl
Things just couldn’t be the same”
So that’s like saying “if I willingly stay here with you, things will have to be different because you can’t keep me here”. It doesn’t totally make sense. Well, it would in a way, but depending on the interpretation. If you interpreted it as “because you can’t cage my spirit” it would make more sense. Still would’ve been an ok line but I get why they went with change. With that it’s saying “if I willing stay here with you, things will have to be different because you can’t change me”
Pantera “Floods” one of the most beautiful outros ever…. it’s variation of a guitar part that Dime had actually been playing since the late 80s live, but he finally worked it into a song, one of my favorite things to play on guitar also, it’s just simply beautiful
Def Leppard - Bringin’ On the Heartbreak. Now the extended outro is labelled as a separate instrumental track (called Switch 625), but it’s just an extension to the song and fits the bill.
Shower the People-James Taylor, I haven’t got time for the pain-Carly Simon, You’re no good-Linda Rondstadt, Late for the Sky-Jackson Brown, God Only Knows-Beach Boys
Caligula's Horse - [Graves](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0L2M_uosfkA&pp=ygUaQ2FsaWd1bGEncyBIb3JzZSAtIEdyYXZlcyA%3D). Outro starts at 13:07.

Jakub Zytecki - [Satya's Diary](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlHEeT5jDLs&pp=ygUeSmFrdWIgWnl0ZWNraSAtIFNhdHlhJ3MgRGlhcnkg). Outro starts at 6:00.
Leprous - [The Sky is Red](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8vw086Ta7Y&pp=ygUZTGVwcm91cyAtIFRoZSBTa3kgaXMgUmVkIA%3D%3D). Outro starts at 6:47.
Earthside - [We Who Lament](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9TGRByXBjPg&pp=ygUZRWFydGhzaWRlIC0gV2UgV2hvIExhbWVudA%3D%3D). Outro starts at 6:20.
Gojira - [New Found](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKkgz50GKy4&pp=ygUTR29qaXJhIC0gTmV3IEZvdW5kIA%3D%3D). Outro starts at 4:37.
Between the Buried and Me - [Fossil Genera](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNgSunZTcaE). Outro starts at 9:50.
Just got into Caligulas Horse. Wasn’t sure about Gojira because I’m not a growls fan, but I’d add Gojira - [The Art of Dying](https://youtu.be/HTr7bqKHvgE?si=qVEMQA3qeI8GJLrw) - the second half. That song turned me into a fan.
The intro and outro of Pink Floyd’s album *The Wall* are designed to create a loop. The album begins with the sound of an incomplete sentence, *We came in?* and ends with the completion of that sentence, *Isn’t this where…* Gives the impression that the album could loop seamlessly, reinforcing the theme and repetition within the story.
Flake - Jack Johnson
Now when you say Outro, I'm guessing you mean the end of a song, and the end to that song is just amazing. Jack Johnson makes amazing music, and this song on it's own is decent, but the ending (about the last 45 seconds) is the best part of the whole song
A Fair Judgement, Deliverance, Burden - Opeth
In The Name Of God - Dream Theater
[The Phantom Agony](https://youtu.be/DaFJx9ySIFE?si=bOszZI__LlR2wb05) - Epica

Take The Power Back - Rage Against the Machine
Vicarious, Opiate - Tool
Tubular Bells Pt. II - Mike Oldfield
[Anger Rising](https://youtu.be/xUeR2ALH4o8?si=kw5_zLOQvxA5RSXA) - Jerry Cantrell
The background world - nine inch nails
In every dream home a heartache - Roxy music
When doves cry - prince
Venice bitch - Lana del rey
Windowlicker - aphex twin ? When the song shifts towards the end. I'm not sure if that counts but it's awesome.
- RHCP - Wet Sand (Frusciante guitar solo)
- Lynyrd Skynyrd - Free Bird (4min long guitar solo outro)
- Genesis - Fountain of Salmacis (Hackett guitar solo)
- Genesis - Supper’s Ready (Peter Gabriel’s last 2-3mins on vocals)
- Genesis - Los Endos (Phil Collins whispering Peter Gabriel’s famous line of Supper’s Ready, indicating he’d be welcome to re-join the band)
- Genesis - Duke’s Travels (lots of elements of songs on the whole album thrown into the finale with amazing instrumentals)
Needless to say, I’m a huge guitar and Genesis fan. Lol.
Probably have some more, but these were the first I could think of.
Pond - Frond (only available on YouTube)
Pixies - No. 13 Baby
Deerhunter - Desire Lines (which definitely took inspiration from the Pixies song I listed above)
I like long outros :)
Layla is in my top 10 all time, but I hate the extended out take. The song intro is so bold, powerful, pulls you in and hits you in the gut. That long outake does nothing but dimish the power of the song making it weak and anemic.
I happen to have a [playlist of my favorite outros](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5scdyOXWNHHBUDejclhlIC?si=499e523c5b89405c) in music.
Some good ones for example are:

- television - [turn curtain](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVAooI5jLaQ)
- d'angelo - [untitled](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-7hbqxnhzU8)
I hated "I'm your captain/closer to home " by Grand Funk. My brother loved that song and used to play it all the time when we were teenagers. I like a lot of Grand Funk songs but that one I just can't stomach.
Oh, I have so many! When I was making my list, I originally had over 250 songs😅so I decided to slim it down to outros I actually find myself looping instead of just outros I like. Forgive me, it’s still terribly long. I spent a good 2 hours making this list.

Thank you! Even though it takes a long time for me to make, it makes me happy when it encourages other people to check it out and explore different genres.❤️
Btw, if you are gonna listen to all of these songs, I recommend you listen to “Kinko’s field trip 2006” before you listen to “Uncanny long arms” (the final song on this list). Hopefully you’ll be able to make a connection there. Also look up “inlaws” by underscores.
So Into You & Spooky - Atlanta Rhythm Section
Lowdown - Boz Skaggs
Kid Charlemagne - Steely Dan (not really extended but any chance for more Larry Carlton is good!)
ELO - Mr. Blue Sky
Supertramp - Crime of the Century
The Who - Baba O'Reilly
Black Sabbath - Wheels of Confusion
Fleetwood Mac - The Chain
Hazel O'Connor - Will you?
Surprised nobody has said Ticket to Ride. At the time, its outro was revolutionary. A bit of music at the end of a song that introduced a completely new element? Hadn’t really been done before. The song really popularized the idea of an outro. Without it, you probably don’t get any of the outros you see in this thread as they were.
Edit: just noticed you said “extended outros” so Ticket to Ride probably doesn’t really fall into that. Still interesting that it popularized the idea though.
Symptom of the Universe - Black Sabbath
Heaven and Hell - Black Sabbath
Under the Bridge - Red Hot Chili Peppers
All That I Need - Blind Melon
We're In This Together - Nine Inch Nails
Alice In Chains - Breath On A Window
I'm 48 years old, listened to a ton of music in my lifetime, still nothing has surpassed this as my favorite outro.
* Decades - Joy Division
* High Hopes - Pink Floyd
* Ashes to Ashes / Lazarus / Stay - David Bowie
* No Confidence Man / Everybody cares, everybody understands - Elliott Smith
* Home / Speak To Me - Depeche Mode
* Écailles de Lune Pt. 1 - Alcest
* Apokastasis Pantôn - Deathspell Omega
Black Sabbath War Pigs with Luke's Wall also Iron Mans outro is great as well as Into The Void
And also by Sabbath the end of Planet Caravan as well as Symptom Of The Universe. I love the style of playing Tony uses in both
Sabbath definitively knows how to do an outro
Floreana by Wishbone Ash from the Coat of Arms album a few years back. Best part of an otherwise ok song. I wish the outro had gone on for another two minutes.
Best ever? Telegraph Road by Dire Straits, hands down
Layla by Derek and the Dominos Welcome Home by Coheed and Cambria The Chain by Fleetwood Mac Hey Jude by The Beatles November Rain by Guns N Roses
This is the only correct answer
Sheep - Pink Floyd Honey Power - My Bloody Valentine Hotel California - Eagles Number 13 Baby - Pixies
Another good PF outro was high hopes
Honey power and to here knows when codas 😍😍
Free Bird - Lynyrd Skynyrd
Why couldn't the lyrics be "this bird you can not cage"? Always bothered me.
I guess change is what fit most 🤷
Definitely flows better, but metaphorically speaking “cage” holds more meaning.
Because the lines proceeding it are: “But if I stay here with you girl Things just couldn’t be the same” So that’s like saying “if I willingly stay here with you, things will have to be different because you can’t keep me here”. It doesn’t totally make sense. Well, it would in a way, but depending on the interpretation. If you interpreted it as “because you can’t cage my spirit” it would make more sense. Still would’ve been an ok line but I get why they went with change. With that it’s saying “if I willing stay here with you, things will have to be different because you can’t change me”
I was just gonna say this…
Karma Police - Radiohead has always been a favorite outro of mind Edit: mine
So many Radioheads. Reckoner outtro is just groovy
Pantera “Floods” one of the most beautiful outros ever…. it’s variation of a guitar part that Dime had actually been playing since the late 80s live, but he finally worked it into a song, one of my favorite things to play on guitar also, it’s just simply beautiful
Yeeeeah amazing choice.
Dire Straits - [Tunnel of Love](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gAirINwjaxE#t=5m57s) Genesis - [The Cinema Show](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G501Ii0X0NE#t=5m20s)
Also by Genesis: Entangled The Return of the Giant Hogweed
A trick of the tail is one of my top 5 albums.
Same.
Excellent choices
I was going to say “On Every Street” by Dire Straits
*Starship Trooper* by Yes
The final third of Welcome Home (Sanitarium) is fucking beautiful.
Def Leppard - Bringin’ On the Heartbreak. Now the extended outro is labelled as a separate instrumental track (called Switch 625), but it’s just an extension to the song and fits the bill.
Absolutely! And such a banger live when they play those two together.
Shower the People-James Taylor, I haven’t got time for the pain-Carly Simon, You’re no good-Linda Rondstadt, Late for the Sky-Jackson Brown, God Only Knows-Beach Boys
"Goodbye Stranger" Supertramp
Had to scroll too far for this one!
Caligula's Horse - [Graves](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0L2M_uosfkA&pp=ygUaQ2FsaWd1bGEncyBIb3JzZSAtIEdyYXZlcyA%3D). Outro starts at 13:07. Dream Theater - [The Best of Times](https://youtu.be/xVSM2CB4MLU?si=9HmCR_IwPTDwET97) - outro starts at 10:00. Petruccuis greatest solo
Great song.
Thanks for the links!
You're welcome, hope you enjoy!
Erra - Dementia
Explosion is the first song I’ve heard by Gojira and feel like that would fit good here. Love that, almost genre-changing ending.
war pigs/ luke’s wall has one of my favorites
Scenes from an Italian Restaurant - [Billy Joel](https://youtu.be/izzM9LXqP-U?si=om02ggKkWfy7LBfg)
I need a lover that won't drive me crazy - John Mellencamp Baker Street - Gerry Rafferty
Both great choices I probably wouldn't have thought of!
I never understood the outro of Strawberry Fields Forever when it goes silent and then suddenly just starts up again.
Bye Bye Badman - Stone Roses
Over the Hills and Far Away --Led Zeppelin
Tool is the king of outros, though
The intro and outro of Pink Floyd’s album *The Wall* are designed to create a loop. The album begins with the sound of an incomplete sentence, *We came in?* and ends with the completion of that sentence, *Isn’t this where…* Gives the impression that the album could loop seamlessly, reinforcing the theme and repetition within the story.
I'm Your Captain is a great outro. I like Metallica's Orion
The Last Baron (Mastodon) Not only an incredible solo to end the song... a *perfect* end to a great album.
Flake - Jack Johnson Now when you say Outro, I'm guessing you mean the end of a song, and the end to that song is just amazing. Jack Johnson makes amazing music, and this song on it's own is decent, but the ending (about the last 45 seconds) is the best part of the whole song
A Fair Judgement, Deliverance, Burden - Opeth In The Name Of God - Dream Theater [The Phantom Agony](https://youtu.be/DaFJx9ySIFE?si=bOszZI__LlR2wb05) - Epica Symptom Of The Universe, Snowblind - Black Sabbath [Somebody](https://youtu.be/2IcIs9_fdCY?si=RqtE2y0S-qvcWDet) - Depeche Mode [My Hero](https://youtu.be/c7RDwh2pIEY?si=kzmLStnDxqK43Zuc) - Foo Fighters [Demon Days](https://youtu.be/WwraU4JXQkc?si=7uxf3y4LSzhopQFh) - Gorillaz Caramel - Blur The World Has Turned And Left Me Here - Weezer Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts VI-IX) - Pink Floyd Pyramid Song, Tinker Tailor - Radiohead Take The Power Back - Rage Against the Machine Vicarious, Opiate - Tool Tubular Bells Pt. II - Mike Oldfield [Anger Rising](https://youtu.be/xUeR2ALH4o8?si=kw5_zLOQvxA5RSXA) - Jerry Cantrell
Roll me Away -Bob Seger
The Stone Roses - I am the resurrection, How has this not made the list, the greatest outro in history, I think so!
I am the the resurrection is their stairway to heaven !
The background world - nine inch nails In every dream home a heartache - Roxy music When doves cry - prince Venice bitch - Lana del rey Windowlicker - aphex twin ? When the song shifts towards the end. I'm not sure if that counts but it's awesome.
GnR had a lot of good outros (November Rain, Locomotive, Rocket Queen, Coma, etc.).
Gypsy rose Lee by the distillers I hate myself & want to die by nirvana Cemetery gates by Pantera
the last minute of starless by king crimson is some of the best music ive ever heard
Fall of the Peacemakers - Molly Hatchet Dogs - Pink Floyd
Molly Hatchet has quite a few epic long guitar outro's. Boogie No More,Gator Country and Devil's Canyon are some examples
I have many but one off the top of my head i didn't see mentioned......down- bury me in smoke
The very end of Parabola, by Tool. It's like my eardrums are getting a massage. 🤘

[Even Rats by The Slip ](https://youtu.be/KKhV1Z1nylo?si=prz3uOAqEOG4gcjH)was my most played song on Guitar Hero 2, lol. Loved the outro.
I wonder why they didn’t hit it bigger. Some great songs on that album
Man out of time comes to mind by Elvis Costello. Bizarre and unexpected
Mirrors the intro. But yes. Jarring when it happens.
The song at the end of Take Shelter. Absolutely perfect at that ending The huey Lewis song at the end of the first back to the future
My Chemical Romance - Drowning Lessons has a great outro IMO
Starship Trooper
Great one!
I always wished the ending of Magical Mystery Tour lasted longer, or phased into its own composition.
- RHCP - Wet Sand (Frusciante guitar solo) - Lynyrd Skynyrd - Free Bird (4min long guitar solo outro) - Genesis - Fountain of Salmacis (Hackett guitar solo) - Genesis - Supper’s Ready (Peter Gabriel’s last 2-3mins on vocals) - Genesis - Los Endos (Phil Collins whispering Peter Gabriel’s famous line of Supper’s Ready, indicating he’d be welcome to re-join the band) - Genesis - Duke’s Travels (lots of elements of songs on the whole album thrown into the finale with amazing instrumentals) Needless to say, I’m a huge guitar and Genesis fan. Lol. Probably have some more, but these were the first I could think of.
Rez - Underworld
Pray, by Gojira. There's something about the way it goes from slow to that hard, chugging rhythm that just gets me going every time!
Reverse the creepy end to Darling Nikki and it's laughably simple.
Pond - Frond (only available on YouTube) Pixies - No. 13 Baby Deerhunter - Desire Lines (which definitely took inspiration from the Pixies song I listed above) I like long outros :)
Any orbit Culture song, they are legitimately the kings of badass outro riffs
The best non extended outro is “ Is She Really Going Out With Him?” By Joe Jackson
Layla is in my top 10 all time, but I hate the extended out take. The song intro is so bold, powerful, pulls you in and hits you in the gut. That long outake does nothing but dimish the power of the song making it weak and anemic.
Daisy Glaze - Big Star
The 4 strange outros on Korn's See You On The Other Side are pretty awesome.
Dire Straits - tunnel of love That’s the first thing that sprung to mind. That piano always gives me chills
I'm yours - Prince
I happen to have a [playlist of my favorite outros](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5scdyOXWNHHBUDejclhlIC?si=499e523c5b89405c) in music. Man I love that song! Great choice!
I hated "I'm your captain/closer to home " by Grand Funk. My brother loved that song and used to play it all the time when we were teenagers. I like a lot of Grand Funk songs but that one I just can't stomach.
Fair enough - on a road trip once my mom lost it because she didn't think it was ever going to end ◡̈

Pink Floyd's High Hopes, an epic outro to a song, an album, and a legendary band
You Make Loving Fun - Fleetwood Mac
Brotha Lynch Hung- inhale with da devil-season of da siccness
Frank Ocean Nights
Incubus - Aqueous Transmission
Love those one - I was obsessed with it back in the day
Explosia - Gojira. If I was serving in the armed forces I’d be playing this outro full blast whilst driving a tank into enemy territory.
Listening to Hotel California right now so yeah it’s gotta be that solo
Deftones- Rosemary
So Into You & Spooky - Atlanta Rhythm Section Lowdown - Boz Skaggs Kid Charlemagne - Steely Dan (not really extended but any chance for more Larry Carlton is good!)
“Spy”, the unlisted bonus track following “Carry Stress in the Jaw”, by Mr. Bungle. “Shangri-La” by E.L.O.
Cool for Cats - Squeeze. Jools Holland's extended piano outro is unsurpassed.
ELO - Mr. Blue Sky Supertramp - Crime of the Century The Who - Baba O'Reilly Black Sabbath - Wheels of Confusion Fleetwood Mac - The Chain Hazel O'Connor - Will you?
Killswitch Engage - My Curse Live - Lakinis Juice Muse - knights of cydonia System of a Down - Sugar, BYOB, Mr Jack, Hypnotize
My favorite probably doesn't count - Magic Man by Heart. There's another chorus at the end, so instead of an outro it's more like a very late bridge.
It's still a good outro - as soon as I started reading your reply, I could hear it in my head.
