I don't care either way. I'm not displaying my cartridges, and I have no plans to sell them, so how they look isn't really important. If it's important to you, then by all means do whatever you want, but if you do ever sell them please make sure to disclose that the labels are reproductions.

cliquealex

I see, however if you were to buy the game, would you pay extra for a damaged label like that Super Mario one? Would you not buy it at all if the label was reproduced? I would like to know. Thanks for your comment!

freetattoo

I'm not a collector, and I don't display my games, so how it looks is mostly irrelevant. I definitely wouldn't pay extra just because it's the original but damaged label, and I also wouldn't avoid buying it just because it's damaged.

cliquealex

Alright I understand thanks!

SuperD00perGuyd00d

I do display mine, but I also like to play them, so I make it a point to have a clean label on the cart. But I understand that people treat this differently

BadgerUltimatum

A repro label vs. a heavily damaged label, If done well Id choose the repro. I'd pay slightly more than damaged whilst feeling a bit annoyed. If its priced similar to a real one I'd be a bit annoyed. If it wasn't marked as reproduction though Id initiate a refund.

007craft

A damaged original label is always worth more than a repo label. You see a repo label can be printed at home for $1 at anytime. Owning a repo label is the same as owing a cart with no label at all. The more damaged a label is, the less its worth. With 0 label all together being worth the very least. If you ever plan on reselling, keep the OG labels, no matter how degraded they are.

Available_Profit_791

Sounds to me like you're fishing for information, and that your intentions are that you are planning on re-selling them. Don't re-label and sell.

cliquealex

Yeah I am trying to understand how people feel about labels from different sources, that's why I asked!

condor6425

I would expect to pay less for an original label in bad condition, I wouldn't buy a repro label at all. If it wasn't disclosed in the listing & I found a repro label I'd return it & maybe report the seller depending on how they handle it. If the original label is completely illegible from damage I wouldn't buy that either. I have less personal objection to replacing completely illegible ones even though I wouldn't want them, but I think it sucks when people destroy an original with slight discoloring to put on a a repro.

cliquealex

Gotcha thanks for your comment! I will keep the original of that Mario 64 :)

Chompy-Shark

If they were my games with crappy labels like that, I would find replacement labels

cliquealex

How about if you wanted to re-sell them, would you keep the original label?

Available_Profit_791

If you re-sell. Absolutely keep the original label. Stop fishing for people to say what you want them to so that you can justify this shady behavior.

cliquealex

? If I already had something in mind I wouldn't have asked, I already got some games and kept the original label on all of them as I was mostly advised to. This comment I replied to was the first or second comment in the post so I still didn't know how people felt about this whole thing in general!

citizenscienceM

I would keep them worn. If i get a beat up cartridge i usually clean it as well as I can inside and out and call it a day. A worn cartridge with a warn label is kind of like a badge of honor sometimes IMO. As long as it's clean and plays I'm good.

citizenscienceM

That being said though some of those labels on those cartridges you have a pretty terrible. If you can't even telp what it is I'd maybe consider replacing, depending on the game.

guartrainer666

As you own them, you shall do as thou wilt.

illoxical

They’re your games, do what makes you happy. However, if you ever resell them you should indicate they’ve been restored.

Ravecrocker

I say do it

johndeuff

I’d say replace the labels and resell them higher /s

Dabomdiggidy

If you plan to sell them don’t, they will affect the price as many collectors prefer the original cartridge with no additions. If you are not selling them then you should do it that’s what you prefer.

Invisible_Mango

If you plan to keep for yourself, do whatever you want. If you plan to re-sell, don’t re-label unless the buyer asks for it. It’s best not to remove originals from the universe. There’s a finite supply that will eventually run dry, so don’t relabel unless it’s becoming part of someone’s collection who wants relabeled carts.

khedoros

If they're staying in your collection, then I don't see why I should care. If you sell them, you just disclose that the labels have been replaced. I've never replaced a label, but I also haven't ever bought a game half as rough as what you have there.

dj65475312

I replaced one with a homemade printed out one but the original was completely covered with black marker and was 100% a write off, it doesn't look perfect but looks much better than just a blank cart.

Which_Information590

I have mine displayed in a glass cabinet next to my console, so I wouldn't except a less than good label. I am not looking for CIB N64 that I am for GameCube, but I would like the label to look nice. I would accept a new front label I think.

zackmaddalone

Find out how much the game is worth with the bad label, if you’re fine with missing out on that money then replace the label

Gumballchamp86

I personally would rather have a messed up original label in pretty bad condition over a custom one. I think it adds character and truth to its age and use. It doesn't make it less nostalgic, if anything, more.

laggyservice

Just replace them. They're not some asset or investment vessel like some people would like you to believe. Copies/fakes are near identical and work flawless, the value of them is not going to skyrocket or something. If anything it will just keep going down because of the floods of fakes that are indistinguishable from the real ones. Same thing happened in WW1 and now WW2 collectibles.

ILoveSexWithAsians

If you're gonna buy the game for collection purposes, buy it in decent condition instead of rummaging through someone's trash in hopes off getting it half off in trash condition. Fake labels drop the price down to 0 for any serious collector so you may as well buy a fake cart for even cheaper then. If someone showed me their "collection" and if it were rife with fake labels, shells, and reoros, I'd consider it a collection of trash fit for the bin. The point of collecting is that you're getting the real, authentic items. Imagine if someone tried to seriously sell or even show off a "collection" of fake Pokémon cards. They'd be laughed out of the house. If it's for yourself, save yourself time and effort in the long run and just buy a flash cart.
