These are my recommendations in order, per category. The top two in any category are arguably the best the system has to offer. Some of these are ported to PC or have superior versions on other systems, but I recommend you check them out on N64 first, especially if you get an Everdrive.
Game prices are so fucking ridiculous and inflated that if you’re only interested in playing and not so much collecting, Everdrive is the only right answer.
Buy an Everdrive and an Expansion Pak, so for example you can play more games such as Sin and Punishment (with an English translation), and ROM Hacks like Smash Remix which occasionally gets updated with more characters added.
Save yourself some money ( at least in the long run ) and buy an everdrive. Then you won't have to choose which games and you'll be able to play fan mods, and believe me, the N64 has some fantastic fan mods. Ocarina of Time in particular is approaching a very exciting new era. Randomizers too.

Make sure to set the period length to the lowest setting (5 mins I think it was?) Otherwise you'll be there for a week cause someone's gonna be scoring a goal every 3 seconds lmao

Recapped it, and now, it's as good as new.

I got an N64 from Japan a few months ago. Got a few localised games Super Mario 64, Zelda Ocarina Of Time and Starfox 64. Japanese games are cheaper and imo look better from a collectors point of view then get an Everdrive (which I plan on getting in the future)
