LOVE Clark!
If I had ever ended up having a boy either his first or middle name would have been Clark. It's my great-grandmother's maiden name, plus my husband is a huge Superman fan. Clark also means scribe or scholar which I think are pretty cool meanings!
Ah yes! Keu-Rah-Keu. I used to live there! Luckily I have a one syllable name with just one consonant sound, but some of my coworkers were not as lucky.
That seems to be the more European pronunciation, in many parts of the US it is just pronounced like "gram." I learned that it has two pretty distinct pronunciations when I was considering the name for my son
We have a Neal and a Dean! People always compliment how well they go together. Some other ideas:
Graham
Clark
Jude
Vaughn
Clive
Cliff
Wynn
Beau
Claude
Hugh
Vance
Boyd
Ross
James
Lyle
Reed
Rhys
Trent
Cole
Charles (sometimes 1 drawn-out syllable, sometimes 2 syllables depending on your accent)
Mark
Scott
Luke
Wade is great too!
Something with a "K" so his initials would be "K.O."!
Kevin lends itself to a few nicknames, as does Kenneth. Kai is another option, or Kaden (a version of my favorite name, Aeden/Aiden, meaning "little fire" in Gaelic)
I LOVE Wade! I think it's strong, classic, and underrated. It's also one of my nephew's middle names, so maybe I'm biased, but it's a great name!
I also love the suggestion of Clark! It would work really well with your last name, and Neil & Clark as a sib-set is perfection!
Reid
Rhys
Vaughn
Heath
Rhett
Drew
Craig
Hugh
Scott
Vance
Joel
Paul

Vincent nn Vince
Calvin nn Cal
Walter nn Walt
Arthur nn Art
Clyde! One of my all-time fave boy names.
Easy to spell and say, has a Y in the middle for visual appeal (in case he becomes a graphic designer), recognizable but not common and one syllable.
My brother who has a long foreign last name is Cam - just Cam not Cameron, Campbell etc.
Otherwise I'll offer up my son's middle name which I love, Owen - technically 2 syllables but not very taxing, really more like 1.5 syllables lol. I also quite like the alliteration from Owen Oppenheimer
Or my husband's name Rhys, would go particularly well with a surname beginning with a vowel I think - though nobody in Australia can pronounce it or spell it strangely so maybe something to be mindful of depending on where you live.
I was going to say Gary with the reasoning I've not met a young Gary in a very long time but it appears Gary was "trending" in 2023 so make of that what you will.
My top one-syllable names for boys:
Dean
Jude
Rhys (Reese if you must)
Graham
Luke
Bruce
Charles (Chas)
Two-syllable names with a similar vibe:
Jesse
Simon
Damon
Isaac
Alec
Felix
Adam
Clark! Classic, underused, sharp.
The name is ruined for me because of National Lampoon Vacation movies.
That adds to the appeal for me lol
Kent!
I’ve always adored Clark!
Came here to comment this! This name was high on my list, and we almost went with it. So underrated!
Now I’m so curious what you chose instead?
Calvin :)
Very nice!
LOVE Clark! If I had ever ended up having a boy either his first or middle name would have been Clark. It's my great-grandmother's maiden name, plus my husband is a huge Superman fan. Clark also means scribe or scholar which I think are pretty cool meanings!
I love this name, but we live in Korea and for us it becomes 3 syllables T.T
Ah yes! Keu-Rah-Keu. I used to live there! Luckily I have a one syllable name with just one consonant sound, but some of my coworkers were not as lucky.
I’m one of those unlucky folks haha just my first name is 4 syllables. My husband is adamant we pick only a 2 or 3 syllable name
My top boy name, husband is ecstatic I like it. Only problem is hubby is a Clark Kent looking guy so kid might end up looking just like him
We named our son Clark and he ended up having blue eyes and really dark brown hair!!
I love Clark! If I'd had a third boy, we would have named him Clark.
Cole Miles
I love Miles! That would be a great choice!
Miles is fantastic and I also really love the idea of Moe(M.O.) as a nickname
Named my oldest Myles Oliver (I wanted Oliver as his first name for the nickname Ollie, but I can’t see him as an Oliver, he definitely fits Myles)
•Neil & Dean •Neil & Glen / Glenn •Neil & Graham •Neil & Hayes •Neil & Kent •Neil & Seth •Neil & Troy
Came to say Dean and Glenn.
I love Dean!
I love these but they all sound like they’re brothers in their 40s lol.
I mean, Neil…
That's what I love about these suggestions 🖤
I like that bc one is only a kid for a small portion of their lives.
They’ll get there one day!
Graham has two syllables
Gra-Ham? I defs only say one
Gray-um
That seems to be the more European pronunciation, in many parts of the US it is just pronounced like "gram." I learned that it has two pretty distinct pronunciations when I was considering the name for my son
Yeah, my answer was more because I thought u/bartkurcher was asking how Graham was pronounced in a two syllable manner
I feel like it's elided in US pronunciation so it's almost but not quite two syllables. Like I can almost feel it in my mouth but it doesn't vocalize.
OP asked for one(ish) syllables so this is an acceptable suggestion
I love Hayes! And my HS boyfriend was a Dean. I think it’s timeless and super underutilized.
Seconding Troy! Dean and Seth are great too, and everyone I've ever met with those names has been a wonderful person.
Love Graham
We used Troy for a middle name. I never hear anyone use Troy, but I really like it.
Dean Finn Jude Reid Wells Hayes
Love Jude
Neil & Reid would be a great sibset!
Wells! Yes.
Great list. I especially love Dean & Reid. I love Jude, but there seem to be so many young Judes around me lately.
I also suggested Jude goes with Neil and it’s out of the top 100
Came here to say Dean or Joel!
Ian!
Neil and Ian go well together! Great suggestion.
Pierce Ash Cole Quinlan Scott
Maybe it’s just me, but I keep saying Quinlan over and over and it’s two syllables. How are you guys saying it? Am I saying it wrong?
OP said "One(ish)" and listed Silas as one of her own ideas.
Quinlan makes me think of Quinlan Vos from Star Wars
Jude Lane Saul Dane Cal Someone yesterday wanted to name their kid Reid which is also a nice one syllable name.
Hank Sage Rhys/Reece/Reese (I'm partial to the Rhys spelling) Cade Case Brett Brent Rowe Nash Knox Tate Wren Dane Dash Stone Gray Leif Rafe
Big fan of Leif
I’m quite fond of Rafe. Mills is also fits the requirement.
Kit
Great pick.
Cole Mark Dale Sean Cade Dean Finn Jack Ned Jed Paul Vince
Blake
And also Jake
Roy
Came here to suggest this. Met a newborn named Roy and thought it was so precious!
My son's name. ❤️ I love it, but people seldom think of it.
We have a Neal and a Dean! People always compliment how well they go together. Some other ideas: Graham Clark Jude Vaughn Clive Cliff Wynn Beau Claude Hugh Vance Boyd Ross
Graham is in my top 2!

Grant!
Jack or Sid, maybe?
Alex is solid.
Gabe Craig James Ace Beck Lyle Brent Carl Dean Beau Ian Isaac Finn Grant Hank Jett Kai Lee Knox Owen Pete Saul Tate Zeus Jules

Eli Jack George Colt Kent Ray Kai Wes/Wesley Hank John Dane Reid
Ezra, Ari, Uly, Eber, Lake, Hank, Soren, Sol

Shane, Cole, Jax, Dean, Dale, Hawke, Wayne, or Von
Dale, Vern, Lloyd, Keith, Drew, Heath, Ulf, Thor, Mads, Russ, Trent, Shane, Ike
Rhett. Job. Kent. Carl. I kinda like Neil and Carl!
Cole, Leo, Kai, Nate, Lee, Jed, Seth, Keith, Mark
Penn
- Creed - Drake - Kai (K.O.?) - Beau - Gage - Adam - Gavin - Martin - George - Clive
Only issue with Drake would be the modern connotations
Something with a "K" so his initials would be "K.O."! Kevin lends itself to a few nicknames, as does Kenneth. Kai is another option, or Kaden (a version of my favorite name, Aeden/Aiden, meaning "little fire" in Gaelic)
George

Cade, Dean, Flynn, Ross, and Seth are some names that come to mind.
