It's not just "good" players, it's players with a year of NBA games under their belt. Murray wouldn't have been this good last year playing before his rookie season. I remember watching Giddy play last year in summer league and he looked like a man among boys. An NBA season really refines your skills. You either sink or swim.

Morrow also had the record for the most points ever scored in a rookie’s first start (since been broken). 37 points on 15-for-20. I believe this is also the record for the most points in a game by an undrafted rookie.

My favorite example was a second year Jonas Valaciunas playing summer league. Not only was he way more skilled than the borderline NBA talent he was playing against, easily scoring in the post with a variety of moves, but he was also WAY bigger and more athletic. Like freakishly so. I have to imagine everyone he played against thinking "shit...time to learn another language because there's no way I'm making the league if this is what I have to play against."

I’ve been one of Murray’s toughest critics. I watched the entire game and yes it’s Summer league level talent…he should be the best on that floor…but he was the best and in seemingly every way. 3 blocks…. The key for my being impressed was not the stats…save the blocks anyway. It’s confidence and assertiveness. If he can translate that kind of confidence and assertive play to the main team…then I’m no longer his critic.
I still contend the thing that limits him and worries me longterm is his self confidence…well and defense. This game in fact shows why my concern about his confidence is real. We never saw the player I saw last night in an NBA game…why? He clearly can play at this level of assertiveness. Last year, his confidence seems to vaporize too easily in moments of adversity. I fear he’s trying to be perfect and doesn’t have a short memory. He’s over thinking and just needs to relax and play. Some of this is coaching. I hope coach Brown, who seems to be a tough love guy, can help build his confidence and let him loose as a non-rookie now. If Murray can raise his scoring to 18-20 a game…and make us more balanced…we’d be looking at an offense closer to Denver. Who do you stop? Make a liar out of me Murray…please!

he will be much better than many rookies drafted before him, and I'm still mad at Portland for taking away Sacramento's dream of having the twins together.
People always bring up mamba mentality, but don't see that keegan is emulating it, he wants to get better every chance he gets. He wants to learn/feel how to takeover games, and he's getting clown for it?

I’ve been one of Murray’s toughest critics. I watched the entire game and yes it’s Summer league level talent…he should be the best on that floor…but he was the best and in seemingly every way. 3 blocks…. The key for my being impressed was not the stats…save the blocks anyway. It’s confidence and assertiveness. If he can translate that kind of confidence and assertive play to the main team…then I’m no longer his critic. I still contend the thing that limits him and worries me longterm is his self confidence…well and defense. This game in fact shows why my concern about his confidence is real. We never saw the player I saw last night in an NBA game…why? He clearly can play at this level of assertiveness. Last year, his confidence seems to vaporize too easily in moments of adversity. I fear he’s trying to be perfect and doesn’t have a short memory. He’s over thinking and just needs to relax and play. Some of this is coaching. I hope coach Brown, who seems to be a tough love guy, can help build his confidence and let him loose as a non-rookie now. If Murray can raise his scoring to 18-20 a game…and make us more balanced…we’d be looking at an offense closer to Denver. Who do you stop? Make a liar out of me Murray…please!
