Bar QB, if NFL players could ball they would instead of the NFL.

jkwah

Playing in the NBA is the most lucrative career for professional athletes. They get paid more than any other sport, have guaranteed contracts, and aren't subjecting themselves to repeated concussions and brain injuries.

JumpShotJoker

Imagine Ben simmons playing in nfl. Would quit after first season.

Relevant-Emu-9217

Is it? Baseball and soccer have similiar contract structures and top level talent gets paid more. Football is definitely the worst though for sure.

orange_orange13

Nba players get paid way more than soccer players, but you also have to consider getting drafted for baseball or playing soccer has basically no guarantee of making the top level compared to basketball

welcometomyhouse123

The best of best of soccer players get paid way more than nba….like $100M/year contract…sheesh, even a 38 years old cr7 getting $200M/year

jkwah

Sure there are outliers, especially the Saudi contracts. But even the top players in Europe are not making nearly that much.

KanekiDan

The saudi league is not the norm. Top football players don’t earn that much

welcometomyhouse123

mbappe? haaland?

welcometomyhouse123

it's not the norm, but they are playing soccer and they are getting paid that amount.

orange_orange13

https://www.capology.com/club/manchester-city/salaries/ https://www.capology.com/club/real-madrid/contract-extensions/ Top players in top leagues get paid less than Bradley Beal

welcometomyhouse123

https://www.si.com/fannation/soccer/futbol/news/highest-paid-soccer-players-2023-cristiano-ronaldo-lionel-messi top 5 overall all getting 65M per year. my point is also for the best of the best...like top 3 in each sport

slayerkj

NBA roster has max 15 players. 5 to 9 people actually play meaningful minutes. Less people for the money to go too than any other sport.

cabose12

Can't speak to soccer, but MLB is definitely not as good payment wise Ohtani is the outlier, and on top of being one of the best players in the world, he generates revenue from an entire nation. The next highest AAV is Verlander at ~43m. 17 NBA players make more than that. The 20th highest paid MLB player, Trea Turner at $27m, would be 57th in the NBA. Not to mention that MLB contracts are often long, so while you have more guaranteed money, you don't get the chance to capitalize on your increasing value like NBA players do

OmarRizzo

And you have to forfeit your entire summer **AND** you have to play frickin baseball ~162 times a year, yuck no thanks

Robinsonirish

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5M5_qjaQkw&t=1s Here are the Kelce brothers, who are both very good NFL players, discussing it. They are pretty much in agreement that some NBA players could play in the NFL but no NFL players could play in the NBA. At one point Travis mentions Devonte Adams, who apparently can ball... his brother is having none of it. I looked up how tall he actually is; 1.85m or 6ft1in. He needs to be insanely gifted to make it in the NBA at that height. I think most of the time it just comes down to NFL players are way too short. If they were longer they'd be basketball players instead.

Relevant-Struggle394

Everyone always says TO. I watched him play in a celebrity game in like 2005 at my high school. He played basketball like a football player. None of his movements natural, everything just hard straight line drives. He scored like 42 points and he shot and made maybe 2 jump shots. Curtis granderson played too, he couldn’t care less about the game. He had maybe 8 baddies with him. However , the times he had to guard TO, he had him moving laterally and it was all bad for TO. Absolutely no wiggle in his game. Granderson proceeded to cut out about a quarter early with his army of fine women. And TO scored the rest of his points on the dudes who made lean with it rock with it

Robinsonirish

Your first paragraph no issues. Second paragraph I had to read 3 times lol. I *think* I sort of understood it but I cannot say for sure. Edit: Don't explain it, don't edit it. Leave it as it is. It's better this way.

Relevant-Struggle394

After the game I got to meet him. I asked for a picture and he hit me with a third person No. but he gave me some dap, a bro hug, and threw my boy his wrist band. Cool dude

sheepish132

Yeah, Jason's argument here is the correct answer. If they were good enough at basketball and had the physical attributes, they would be playing in the NBA, not the NFL.

OmarRizzo

Ochocinco hilariously said he played everyone on the heatles 1-on-1 and beat them and it’s like “bro no fckn way did that happen”

Robinsonirish

I'm not super familiar with NFL but from the little I know Ochocinco does come of as a bit of a troll :)

PumpkinHead555

No one chooses NFL over the NBA if they ever had a legit chance to make it. Other than maybe a top ranked QB, that’s it

vonkillbot

Not a singular one

Jack_M_Steel

None

Moist_Walrus5413

What position would Zion be? Defensive end? I could see Ja being a wide receiver

JumpShotJoker

Ja reminds me of Tyler lockett

this_good_boy

Ant

thecalmer

None, they would've played in the NBA if they could have made it.

yoppee

None

hoodie_dre5

None of them lol

Top-Fuel-8892

Randy Moss

silversmith84

I should have said current, but you’re right that Randy was probably one of the best ballers out of the NFL guys. He was a stud in high school, but I still think the chances of him being an elite NBA player are slim.

nevermindthatyoudope

His brother was a FRP, 17th overall I believe.

Ok_Hornet_714

For those, like me, who were wondering who this is, it is Sean Williams https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sean_Williams_(basketball)

BetweenTheBuzzAndMe

damn that's a TIL another fun Sean Williams fact: 2006 #17 pick: Shawne Williams - 6'10 230lb forward 2007 #17 pick: Sean Williams - 6'10 235lb forward spooky

dontletmecook73

2008 #17 pick: Roy "Shawn Williams" Hibbert - 6'14 270lb centerward

growsonwalls

Tom Brady might have been the typical slow, white spot up shooter? Tom Brady is an excellent thrower in the NFL with a quick release and great eye for the field.

rakkhasa

WR Terrell Owens

Numerous_Chemist_291

Julius Peppers. Antonio Gates. Tony Gonzales. Basically any all-pro Tight End or Defensive End can play power foward in the NBA.

TdotGdot

Ya I don’t think so. Great athletes but in reality they’re aren’t even that tall for the nba

ChiRaider

All these guys are like 6’4 they’re not playing power forward in the NBA lol

Numerous_Chemist_291

Barkley was 6'4. Zion is only 6'6. Peppers is 6'7.

Slow_Shift6252

I mean Josh Hart is about that size. But the problem would be building the amount of skill even he has is insanely difficult. Those guys didn’t make the league because they weren’t nearly good enough from a skill standpoint even back then

WEMBYF4N

The only reason Gates became an NFL player was because he failed as a basketball one

jonsccr7

Aaron Hernandez would have killed to be in the NBA.

Delicious_Sandwich45

Aaron Hernandez was too busy entering prison as a tight end and transitioning to a wide receiver whilst behind bars.
