It may have only been the first round, but I still remember him and Rondo torturing Dame and CJ in an away-team sweep. Only time I can remember prime Dame just getting completely shut down offensively for a whole series.
Wish Boogie hadn’t gotten hurt that year. The team was really starting to gel late in the season.
How many steals are we allowed? First white, then KP and almost instantly Jrue. Who the fuck is Brad going to package for next year? Dude is trading for fun
Ya the philosophy switch going from Danny “hoard all the picks” Ainge to Brad “fuck them picks” Stevens was huge for getting across the finish line. Both were huge in forming this team.
I love how Jrue plays. So many point guards are "better" but if I was trying to win a title, I would rather have Jrue over other all-star point guards like Trae who have better numbers.
(I edited this comment to better make clear that i know Jrue is a 2x all star, and that to make it more clear I was trying to talk more about superstar numbers vs winning impact).
It's all fit, tbh.
Jrue as a 2nd option in the playoffs got exposed last year. Especially with Middleton injured, Jrue couldn't help Giannis effectively.
But as a third option behind Tatum and Brown, Jrue is elite.
Could be. Its still the team's prerogative at the end, although they almost always grant it. One instance of the opposite is the Raptors not giving Jonas Valanciunas a ring despite him being an integral part of the regular season and was good enough to be traded for Marc Gasol.
Y’all are about as disrespectful to Maxi as you were to KP. Dude had a major shoulder injury on his shooting arm. Sad to see that the majority of the fanbase doesn’t support him.
Yeah Rudy comes up to contest Luka and then teammate is late to rotate back to his original man so bam - Luka dishes a lob. Rinse and repeat
They usually are much quicker on rotations and rarely miss assignments but they looked so slow out there in the WCF
Inexperience caused them to run outta gas not knowing how much of a slog the playoffs can be. I'm optimistic for next year as I believe Ant when he says he knows what to expect now and is gonna train his hardest for it
Yep, that fire in pretty much the entire team’s eyes in their exit interviews has me feeling good about next year. More experience and knowledge of what to expect will hopefully have them conditioned out of their mind come playoffs next year. As long as we stay healthy I think they’ve got such a good shot.
For what it’s worth, pretty much every team that won a chip for the last half decade has lost in the 2nd or 3rd round like 2-3 times before finally breaking through
Feels like Wolves & OKC are the teams who went into this postseason with the expectation that this would be a learning experience year
I legitimately don’t understand what y’all were doing on defense. Wolves should have had that in the bag yet y’all are just another notch in Lukas unpaid child support payments
I'm so mad lol
They were too exhausted - missing assignments and late to rotations which isn't like them. It was mostly an offense problem though and they choked Games 1 and 2 away :( Had the lead with seconds left and made costly mistakes. Those first 2 games will forever haunt me
Usually, great defense will lead to easy offense, but god damn did y’all make offense look hard. KAT and Ant need to get smarter on the offensive end. Once they do it’s scary hours in Minny
From the Nuggets to the Timberwolves to the Mavericks every team drew the one matchup they absolutely didn't want after conquering the previous foe and it neutered the round
I mean good for the Mavs, Luka/Kyrie rightfully kicked our ass.
But I would've loved a matchup vs. Boston based on our regular season. But probably still would've been outclassed. Just not ready yet
I just don’t think your team has enough offense for the Celtics over a series. Defensively you guys match up well. Only team I feared was the Nuggets so forever I’m grateful for the Wolves
I fucking checked out of the series then saw we won Game 4 only to watch this Game 5 loss. But can't be mad if you lost to a complete team. Celtics really well built.
The most realistic one is Lively making a big jump in year 2.
The least realistic one in Kyrie playing like a superstar and not 15ppg player against the Celtics.
Can’t win a Championship/Finals game shooting like the 2023-24 Chicago Bulls from 3 man 🤣
Nasty work by Dallas. Couldn’t make so many wide open 3s. Kyrie embarrassed himself.
Edit: nasty
Karma-wise, I feel like the curse can be lifted now that the Celtics won. That being said, it would be tremendously funny if Kyrie just kept losing to the Celtics for the rest of his career 😂
even the most grounded athletes are superstitious about basketball so a dude who thinks the earth is flat DEFINITELY believes that he has been cursed by stomping on a cartoon leprechaun
> Can’t win a Championship/Finals game shooting like the 2023-24 Chicago Bulls from 3 man
Celtics shot 33.8% from 3 in the Finals.
2023-24 Bulls shot 35.8% from 3 this season.
Honestly could not have expected this with the way we started this season. Like we were hovering around 10th for a good while, ended up as the 5th seed, beat the 4th, 3rd and 1st seed and lost to what seems by far the best team this year.
Obviously I would have preferred if we won but you can't be mad about what we did.
It's honestly crazy how much shade is being thrown their way. According to the betting odds they were the 6th best team in the west (tied for 11th overall) preseason yet made it to the NBA finals. They had a great year but everyone has a championship or bust mentality.
it feels a lot like the circle of life
celtics lose to warriors, come back with finals mentality and win it
mavs lose to celtics...well we shall see, but im hopeful with everyone under contract and DJJ very much in reach to re-sign
Kudos to the Mavs. People are clowning you guys and think the Nuggets or Wolves should've made the Finals. Yall man-handled the Wolves, who beat the Nuggs. If anyone should be getting clowned (aside from Kyrie) it should be those teams.
Fr, the Celtics discourse was crazy. I’m honestly impressed that the Mavs were able to completely dismantle the Celtics in game 4, just seemed a bit too late. Great season, Dallas. Maybe we’ll meet again one day
The best part about that whole thing was neither was playing consistently great, both had multiple off games all playoffs and then a couple great games vs MIN made the media lose their collective minds.
tuff last game but idc still a good season, especially a year removed from missing even the fucking play-in
hopefully we can get rid of some of the dead weight on the team in the off season now that we know what we are capable of.
ggs celtics
ironically this team reminds me of the team you guys had in the finals 2 years ago where you saw the potential but it just wasn’t ready, you were too early etc etc
He been treated like a damn make a wish kid the entire damn season. Made me sick to my stomach. This doesn’t tho, this inspires joy!
Maybe his hive-mind followers will relax now :)
He gets the same credit a #1 player does when they win and only the blame of a #2 player when they lose. It's been like that for every team he's been on except maybe the Celtics.
KD got eviscerated in 2022 when Kyrie built good will off of one good game even tho he proceeded to shit the bed even harder. The standards for any other player is not the same for Kyrie. He exists by different rules bc his *tribe* will do anything to deflect for him.
It’s pretty fucking nasty the shit I’ve heard this entire playoff run. Oh well! Was probably the best chance he will have for the rest of his career.
Amazing season man. To go from missing the playoffs to the finals is special. Hardy, Green, Lively Gafford, and Washington will all get better with time. Rough finals for Kyrie, but what a redeeming season overall. And Luka is that dude. Lifelong Mavs fan, easily my favorite team of the post Dirk era
A lot of fans don't realize that. Happy that we had a great playoff run we didn't even though we make it into the western conference finals nor the NBA finals.
We did send the Clippers, Thunders and Wolves home. We had a chance in the finals but the team isn't ready for a team like Boston. They are too good for now.
Anyone who is a Mavs fan and who watched a lot of games knows how happy you. can be seeing a great playoff run. Was totally unexpected
meh, post game shits always like this.
after game 3 luka was basically overweight hitler and after game 4 tatum and brown were bums about to blow a 3-0 lead
(Mostly) young team, gotta take your lumps. Great experience. Proud of them.
Congrats to the Cs, best team in the league from opening day to the very end.
Yeah there was a possession where the Celtics got 3 or 4 offensive rebounds all because Luka was just standing still and watching. White ran in front of him to get one and then Horford had to barely jump over him to get the other 2
I think Luka will get his eventually. Every superstar has to go through tough losses before they eventually win one. He will need to get into better shape first.
Exactly, I think at sometimes what people see as a lack of him caring/hustle is really him being absolutely gassed and trying to conserve his energy to last the whole game.
People just follow popular narratives so they feel good about themselves. When all the noise clears you'll realise that Luka had 29/9/6 on a knee that needed to be constantly drained, potentially more injuries on top of his team falling off a cliff compared to the prior series
Probably better for his long term maturity to lose this Finals. Could you imagine how entitled he might feel going forward having been hyped up since he was basically 13 just to come into the NBA, be a unanimous top 3 player almost immediately, and then be the first player to come back from 3-0 not only ever but in the Finals? Luka would never come down from all that.
Well yea, I said I wouldn’t be surprised not that he actually would get 2-3. One is a more likely number. But I do agree he’s about to head into his championship window where he contends every year.
This Mavs team gonna be scary once basketball terrorist Tim Hardaway Junior is traded/doesn’t play any more minutes, thanks for three very exciting western conference series!
Genuinely unfathomable that this team which had virtually no assets made moves at the deadlines to win the West.
I’m proud of this team and am excited for the future. The west is not easy to win and there’s no guarantee we make it back but there’s options to be had this summer and I hope we see someone come here.
Dream scenario is Caruso.
FADED
I feel bad for all the Overwatch players tonight. Luka gonna come in hot on the triggers to take that anger out.
Lmao he about to get rolled on there too
That’s really how it goes
The Knicks won the Porzingis trade purely by making the Mavericks have to play THJ minutes
Praying someone takes him off of our hands
There are worse guys out there. And we found a way to get rid of Bertans.
Expiring contract worth $15M. He'll be traded this year.
Jrue Holiday has clutch genes.
won in his first year in both Milwaukee and Boston
why couldnt he get us a win >:( still love you jrue
Because God hates DeMarcus Cousins
fair
That's 2024 T1 League Finals MVP Taiwan Beer Leopards legend Demarcus Cousins to you pal
That pelicans group was nasty and probably would’ve been a top tier team in today’s era.
Unfortunately relying on Boogie Cousins and Anthony Davis to stay healthy may have been a big ask.
2 rings in 3 years. Are we in a Jrue dynasty?
2 in 4 years
Sadly he’s no Patrick McCaw
Steal of the past few years
How many steals are we allowed? First white, then KP and almost instantly Jrue. Who the fuck is Brad going to package for next year? Dude is trading for fun
He stopped being head coach so he could play 2k in real life
he got 2 1sts for KP. He has trade override ON LMAO
Bro this whole roster is made of steals and swindles.
Al Horford the cyanide pill in the Sixers' water system
Casually jumping right from being one of the best coaches in the NBA to being one of the best executives in the NBA. Just Brad Stevens things ❤️
Just wait till that handsome bastard suits up to play.
I love when they asked him if he's excited about his new role and he looked at Ime Udoka and said "Err.. I'm excited about sleeping for a change"
LOL he's somehow better than Danny Ainge. I thought that would never happen. Brad is a god!
Ya the philosophy switch going from Danny “hoard all the picks” Ainge to Brad “fuck them picks” Stevens was huge for getting across the finish line. Both were huge in forming this team.
Its like in fantasy football where there's that one guy that wins every trade so the only solution is just to never trade with him again.
Brogdon was already a steal before upgrading to Jrue.
Jrue is an all star
He is a legit menace
He still haunts my nightmares.
I'm gonna miss those Jaylen Brown left hand jokes
And Jaylen Brown is gonna welcome those left hand jobs
He doesn’t have a family 😈
His left hand holding that Finals MVP Trophy!
Jaylen Brown left hand jokes were a longtime WON subscriber
Bro really wrote “XXX-YYY”.
Had the template but forgot to fix that lol
He could still edit it though, if he wants. OP please dont fix it
Dorks writing out Reddit posts before the game so they can be the first to post it lmao
yeah it was definitely only YY under 100 again
ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE What happens when you trade Grant Williams
Imagine getting traded by both finals teams. Best hack to guarantee a ring
Anderson Varejão was on the cavs and was traded to the warriors during the 2015-2016 season. Most recent one I can remember happening mid season.
Dion waiters waived by the heat and signed by the lakers in 2020
Torrey Craig in 2021 was traded from the bucks to the suns
He’s only getting a ring if the Mavs won
Hornet for life Grant Williams
We’d gone too long without a Celtics bench player, can’t kick the habit.
the funniest part of this finals is that grant would have actually been able to get a ring if we won apparently.
Could be. Its still the team's prerogative at the end, although they almost always grant it. One instance of the opposite is the Raptors not giving Jonas Valanciunas a ring despite him being an integral part of the regular season and was good enough to be traded for Marc Gasol.
Why didn't they give him a ring?
Won one and didnt know how to act
Raptors fans ask that question too. Give JV and Delon Wright their rings damnit
I completely forgot this was the Grant Williams Bowl
hornets know what to do
We'll be joining him soon in Cancun
Mavs gotta take him back now, the rules of the Finals.
Kyrie held up 5 just to do fuck all in Boston
He was one of our best players
Celtics somehow still won the Kyrie trade?
6D Hopscotch by Brad Stevens
He did promise us a chip.
The court was Round that day 😔
Nah, he promised them a ring. And delivered.
He was holding up 5 to the Boston crowd after game 2 letting them know that the series is ending in 5! How kind he is
Wolves and nuggets died for this lmao
I'm just upset because of the fucking alley oops they had on us lol
We can't switch on any of the Celtics, they're all strong, fast, and big.
and we have... Well... Kleber
Imagine if kleber never came back
Or didn't do that stupid drive that got him injured this playoffs.
imagine we had any other celtics player instead of THJ
Y’all are about as disrespectful to Maxi as you were to KP. Dude had a major shoulder injury on his shooting arm. Sad to see that the majority of the fanbase doesn’t support him.
Timberwolves switched too often when guarding luka and kyrie, forced gobert to play help and leave the rim. Shit was tough
Yeah Rudy comes up to contest Luka and then teammate is late to rotate back to his original man so bam - Luka dishes a lob. Rinse and repeat They usually are much quicker on rotations and rarely miss assignments but they looked so slow out there in the WCF
Inexperience caused them to run outta gas not knowing how much of a slog the playoffs can be. I'm optimistic for next year as I believe Ant when he says he knows what to expect now and is gonna train his hardest for it

I legitimately don’t understand what y’all were doing on defense. Wolves should have had that in the bag yet y’all are just another notch in Lukas unpaid child support payments
Yeah, that shit made me crazy. Also, never made him work on defense at any point.
I'm so mad lol They were too exhausted - missing assignments and late to rotations which isn't like them.
We put the league on spooky warning this season, next year it's maximum spooky!
From the Nuggets to the Timberwolves to the Mavericks every team drew the one matchup they absolutely didn't want after conquering the previous foe and it neutered the round
Give the mvp to Wemby for winning that one game in Denver. Changed the playoffs entirely.
THEY BEAT A STACKED WEST JUST TO GET GENTLEMAN SWEPT IN THE FINALS😭😭😭😩
At least we weren't swept!!!
Game 4 was the bait of a lifetime
I fucking checked out of the series then saw we won Game 4 only to watch this Game 5 loss. But can't be mad if you lost to a complete team. Celtics really well built.
I thought we'd never lose again! aaand everything looked exactly like game 1-3
Wolves vibes
2001 sixers vibes
With the game 4 confetti, more like 2018 sixers vibes
Same… wait fuck
Kyrie ass-terclass whenever he’s in Boston
it was hilarious how many of his shots rimmed out
Not sure what needs to happen in the off season for this Mavs team to beat the Celtics. Boston looks very strong as a team.
The most realistic one is Lively making a big jump in year 2. The least realistic one in Kyrie playing like a superstar and not 15ppg player against the Celtics.
Ky needs to practice in the Celtics arena for starters
https://i.imgur.com/UdID0aX.jpg
Lol, I was just about to comment, "Why do his ears look so funny?"
Can’t win a Championship/Finals game shooting like the 2023-24 Chicago Bulls from 3 man 🤣 Nasty work by Dallas. Couldn’t make so many wide open 3s. Kyrie embarrassed himself. Edit: nasty
Lucky cursed Kyrie forever, that city owns him
Nah, Kyrie promised Boston a ring. he delivered.
robert williams and marcus smart died for this !
Boston went from Marcus Smart to Marcus Smarter with Jrue Holiday
So does this mean the curse is broken?
Karma-wise, I feel like the curse can be lifted now that the Celtics won. That being said, it would be tremendously funny if Kyrie just kept losing to the Celtics for the rest of his career 😂
It's in his head now, no going back.
even the most grounded athletes are superstitious about basketball so a dude who thinks the earth is flat DEFINITELY believes that he has been cursed by stomping on a cartoon leprechaun
Isn’t it some crazy 0-12 record playing in Boston?
Its 0-8 now and was 0-12 overall before last game
It’s 0-9 now and was 0-13 I thought?
Yeah it was 13, which is a satisfyingly unlucky number for such a curse hehe
> Can’t win a Championship/Finals game shooting like the 2023-24 Chicago Bulls from 3 man Celtics shot 33.8% from 3 in the Finals. 2023-24 Bulls shot 35.8% from 3 this season.
The problem was, outside of game 4, the Mavs never capitalized on y'all's shooting struggles, we just went out and shot it even worse, lol
Kyrie invisible all but one game
> they fell in 5 games to the Boston Celtics tonight, XXX-YYY.
Fackin nail-bitah
GG Celtics. Great season.
Learning experience for Luka IMO. Kinda like Dirks first finals run. He'll be back, I have no doubt about it.
we did pretty good for a couple of goobers
lol great mentality to have. Yall killed it this season.
Honestly could not have expected this with the way we started this season. Honestly, finals defeats hurt like nothing else but once it all settles down you’ll look back on this run with joy.
it feels a lot like the circle of life celtics lose to warriors, come back with finals mentality and win it mavs lose to celtics...well we shall see, but im hopeful with everyone under contract and DJJ very much in reach to re-sign
Kudos to the Mavs. People are clowning you guys and think the Nuggets or Wolves should've made the Finals. Yall man-handled the Wolves, who beat the Nuggs. If anyone should be getting clowned (aside from Kyrie) it should be those teams.
The Celtics took the Mavs to the glue factory
Feels like the celtics haters lost harder than the mavs. I would say gg but most of those games were pretty bad watching.
Fr, the Celtics discourse was crazy. I’m honestly impressed that the Mavs were able to completely dismantle the Celtics in game 4, just seemed a bit too late. Great season, Dallas. Maybe we’ll meet again one day
Hopefully the media can stop crowning Luka/Kyrie as the best backcourt ever
Media set em up so bad with that smh
build em up to knock ‘em down
Never understood how you pre crown someone like that lol. Like dam let them at least win a chip first.
Talking points
I never understood that, esp after curry/klay
Yeah that's not even like...the distant past. They were the second most recent winners til thirty minutes ago or so lol.
I was there Gandalf.....3000 years ago.
I hate the media overhyping shit and then they clown you when you don’t live up to their unrealistic expectations
The best part about that whole thing was neither was playing consistently great, both had multiple off games all playoffs and then a couple great games vs MIN made the media lose their collective minds.
I am happy that the weird coach won a ring, let your weird shit fly weird man
tuff last game but idc still a good season, especially a year removed from missing even the fucking play-in hopefully we can get rid of some of the dead weight on the team in the off season now that we know what we are capable of. ggs celtics
You all have a lot of promise but a lot of room for improvement. Not a bad situation for Dallas basketball!
ironically this team reminds me of the team you guys had in the finals 2 years ago where you saw the potential but it just wasn’t ready, you were too early etc etc
GOODNIGHT KYRIE 👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻
'Most skilled player' and 'better than Curry' btw
Why didnt he used his "unguardable" skillz and handlez to score more points in the final? Is he stupid?
He been treated like a damn make a wish kid the entire damn season. Made me sick to my stomach. This doesn’t tho, this inspires joy! Maybe his hive-mind followers will relax now :)

Can’t wait to find out the reptilians made him lose to convince people Earth is round or some shit
He wishes he was half the player and leader Curry is
I knew this series was over when Mav fans chanted "We want Boston"
Kyrie said he coming back for game 5 just to do this
The crowd at the Garden chanting “we want Boston” in the fourth quarter was so goddamn funny
They were literally our only available opponent after winning the WCF
Why didn’t we ask for a different opponent? Are we stupid?
I know it’s gonna be a wild time in Boston tonight
Kyrie punching air
He probably would miss
Amazing season man. To go from missing the playoffs to the finals is special. Hardy, Green, Lively Gafford, and Washington will all get better with time. meh, post game shits always like this. after game 3 luka was basically overweight hitler and after game 4 tatum and brown were bums about to blow a 3-0 lead
I do wish we'd gotten the electoral college point differential win tho
(Mostly) young team, gotta take your lumps. Great experience. Proud of them. Congrats to the Cs, best team in the league from opening day to the very end.
Jayson Tatum is Devin Booker grandpa
Jayson Tatum is now the Kobe Bryant of Devin Bookers
DEVIN BOOKER HAS MORE FINALS GAMES WINS THAN LUKA
More points too
Yeah but imagine how good Luka will be if he ever figures out what running is and how to move his feet
Seeing Luka just watch a rebound that he could’ve easily gotten bounce straight to a Celtic was infuriating.

I’m just happy for Al Horford. 17 years in the league and he’s finally a champion.
This Mavs team gonna be scary once basketball terrorist Tim Hardaway Junior is traded/doesn’t play any more minutes, thanks for three very exciting western conference series!
To the top we go. Weeee
Lol OP was so ready to post this he didn’t even put in the score just XXX-YYY Edit: they finally edited it with the score haha
LOOKS LIKE HORSE IS BACK ON THE MENU BOYSSS
Cancun come join us now!
I don't ever wanna hear how Kyrie is better than Steph again.
