PSA BetterHelp literally just paid out millions to settle a privacy lawsuit. They sold medical data to Facebook among other companies. Users that had their info sold got a grand total of nine dollars each.
Canāt believe just a couple years ago the Celtics hired the first ever black, christian, autistic head coach ā and now the Lakers are entrusting their team to a wine-loving podcaster. The modern NBA is for everybody.
Zammy512 just throws it out there like nothing ever happened and then leaves.
first Reddick is the new coach of the Lakers and then a dangling semi-colon. how did we get here?
This is not my choice. JJ is ANOTHER unproven coach that were gonna throw money at to hopefully be the next Phil jackson...when he is unproven and most certainly will lose the locker room (as most post player coaches do as they dont want to step over their peers). We will hate him by december when its clear we are not gonna win and it will be deserved.
But I have faith in the lakers...But If we also draft bronnie Im done with this franchise till lebrons gone.
I feel like it better. Last thing I want to see is my team leader and head coach devoting time to a podcast in the middle of a 6 game slip.
And, on the other end, why would you publicly coach the rest of the league on how you out coached them?
> Redickās status as the front-runner for the job briefly changed when Connecticut coach Dan Hurley and the Lakers expressed mutual interest before Hurley interviewed in Los Angeles.
^ From the athletic article lmao
And then we have Wojās spin below
> @wojespn
Sources: Pelinkaās first conversation with Redick came at the Chicago draft combine in mid-May but Pelinka had a much longer visit with Dan Hurley there and that set him exclusively on the path of pursuing the UConn coach ā who eventually turned down an offer. Pelinka long held an intrigue in Redick and those talks became substantive again post-Hurley.
This whole thing is stupid. Lakers offered Hurley a contract before Reddick. They obviously wanted him more. Woj was right in this one, but both he and Shams just regurgitate what owners, agents and players want them to.
The conspiracy is too good.
Woj hated getting scooped. Lakers thought JJ wanted too much money. Woj is extremely close close with the Hurley family and an idea is born. Lowball Hurley to decrease JJs price (Look what we're giving a 2x Champion coach!!!). This also boosts Hurley's rep as an NBA coaching prospect, makes Hurley look like the good guy when he turns it down and returns to UConn. Woj gets to scoop Shams. Lakers get to go back to JJ with a lower offer than he originally wanted.
I'm not rooting against him but the discourse surrounding him if/when the Lakers have some really bad losses in a row is going to be some decent popcorn
I can't believe they hired the dude who disrespected Jerry West but it's incredibly on brand for this iteration of the Lakers organization because they also disrespected Jerry West. JJ will be gone in 2 years flat!
I know this is pretty much bullshit, but itās because 2 years isnāt seen as long enough for a coach to ācreate a culture and implement their systemā.
And itās bullshit because they might be fired halfway into their first year (looking at you Adrian Griffin)
The Lakers arenāt interested in a culture and they want instant results. Implementing a system shouldnāt take 3-4 years unless youāre completely revamping a team. If a coach doesnāt have a way to get their system cemented in a year or two with the players they have, and the front office doesnāt have a way to help them reach that point in a year or 2 through drafts/trades they shouldnāt be hiring that coach.
So that players respect them. E.g. If youāre a player on a 2/3 year deal youāre less likely to respect a coach on a 1 or 2 year deal. Itās a pretty common occurrence in sports everywhere at this level
I am aware but that reasoning is still hilarious no matter which way you look at it.
āOh this dude has no experience at all but he got a 4 year deal so maybe heās legitā
Fr, idk if it would be funnier for the podcaster turned head coach of the most valuable team in the league to get fired midseason or for him to threepeat
Either this ends with the Lakers having made a bold move and turning it into a huge win or it goes the way most people think it might and the memes this creates will be glorious. Either way this is gonna be a hell of a ride for everyone.
Hey at least in the comments of the first Mind the Game pod hundreds of high school coaches laughed at him for using Xs for offense (while LeBron literally calls defending bigs X5).
So he got that first embarrassing moment out of the way
Shams was obviously wrong.
Shams wrote an article on Tuesday (i) declaring that Redick was the frontrunner, (ii) listing Redick and Borrego as the leaning candidates, (iii) identifying other candidates, ***none of whom were Dan Hurley***.
Shams [reported](https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5540372/2024/06/04/jj-redick-lakers-head-coach/) that the Lakers were "zeroing in on JJ Redick as the front-runner to be the franchiseās next head coach" and that "indications are strong that Redick is their leading choice at this stage." Shams wrote that the Lakers were "'infatuated' with Redick and his potential as a coach."
Shams' article says the "Lakersā search has been seriously focused on two candidates ā Redick and Pelicans associate head coach James Borrego."
Again, ***his article didn't even mention Hurley***.
By Thursday, Hurley was on a plane to LA to meet with the Lakers. By Friday, the Lakers had made him an offer.
Shams wasn't right. He wrote a whole piece about their search process without even mentioning the guy they offered the job to later that week.
Yeah idk if this sub just lacks critical thinking skills or what but itās pretty obvious he wasnāt right. Sure, Redick was hired, but he clearly was not the front runner given that they gave a huge offer to another coach less than a week later. If anything Redick was the second choice.
That being said idk why anyone gives a fuck whoās the first to break the news
Itās done. Until heās fired. No way is he going to be able to podcast and be a HC. Thereās not only not enough time he wouldnāt be able to talk about anything.
I need him trashing his players and others teams on the pod but pretending the podcast doesnāt exist and is in a separate universe. Completely professional and by the PR book during press conferences, but just RIPPING dudes on his podcast. Never acknowledge it and just see how it goes.
Eh JJ seems way more opinionated and like an asshole than Nash ever was.
Nash didn't have the temperament for coaching. JJ seems closer to that temperament
Not that the Lakers will be easy for JJ, but Nash was just in a completely unwinnable scenario for a first time coach. You can't say for certain at all that Nash doesn't have what it takes or the 'temperament' for coaching. Also plenty of coaches who turned out to be just fine after a bad first stint
The star players on this lakers team are Bron and AD, and I think they respect JJ more and arenāt the kind of players to lead a lockeroom away from JJ, especially after last year and knowing Lebron has 1-2 more years left.
Steve Nash had 3 way worse personalities on that team who all knew if it didnāt work they could request trades and leave. Also Steve Nash wouldāve worked if KD had a .5 smaller shoe
Yea odds are it wonāt work but Nash was more of a sign off and JJ is handpicked. Big difference. Also thereās not as big of a generational gap which should help in theory
how tf can these guys with no coaching experience get head coaching jobs?! Now some poor assistant coach who has been grinding for years is going to have to come in and start teaching the head coach how to coach. Insane
Honestly, good luck to him. I think it'd be way funnier for him to actually be good and people look insanely stupid for jumping the gun. If not then it is what it is and we can laugh then.
Old man and the three JJ: today's guest went 4/14 last night, tell us why Dlo: š¶
Generous
Good on JJ for highlighting improved play
Why was this funny. I hate that i laughed
Brought to you by BetterHelp. Use Promo JJ10 for 10% off therapy. Only valid for Lakers fans
The therapy is literally just pictures of Shohei Ohtani
The therapy also doesnāt work for Lakers/Angel fans
The six of you have your support group though.
My uncle is a Lakers/Angels fan from back when they were the California Angels and I'll be praying for him lmao.
Damn, Shohei really do have that fast-action relief. Really hits the spot.
PSA BetterHelp literally just paid out millions to settle a privacy lawsuit. They sold medical data to Facebook among other companies. Users that had their info sold got a grand total of nine dollars each.
I'm not surprised, so many telehealth companies are really scummy.
i like to imagine this being said by the announcers and the espn camera is just zoomed in on jj in the huddle listening to lebron draw the next play
dread from it, run from it, the podcast man arrives
Jordan played against plumbers, LeBron played against podcasters, Bronny was coached by podcasters
I pray they keep doing the pod. Shits gonna be mad awkward after a 5 game losing streak š
Get ready to learn floppy action, buddy.
Jeanie heard him explain a basic flare screen and thought he was Pop š¤£
She heard horns action and was convinced
She heard Spain pick n roll and thought JJ was taking her out for tapas
She heard "elevator screen" and thought keeping the bugs out was a great idea
Had to consult Linda Rambis first but then it was a go.
It was an essay on "What Kobe meant to me" JJ crushed it with his Duke punctuation.
lakers are going to start spamming spain pnr
Lakers gonna start spamming gortat screens
Horn 2 gonna go crazy
All I'm getting is that Lakers are going to learn how to run an offense properly?
LeFloppy
he will be back podcasting in a year when he gets fired and pockets 4 years pay. Lebron will fire him with the Lakers money.
Jordan got Phil Jackson and Lebron got a wine addict podcaster šššš
Lebron isnāt the coach wym.
Yes he is
Canāt believe just a couple years ago the Celtics hired the first ever black, christian, autistic head coach ā and now the Lakers are entrusting their team to a wine-loving podcaster. The modern NBA is for everybody.
This past week has been one huge W
Lmao Lakers fans are gonna hate him by DecemberĀ
We hated him before the hiring.
Hated him at Duke.
This is Actually facts. Probably would have hated him in childhood; too.
Genuine question, what is going on with that semicolon.
It's just...dangling there. I can't not look at it.
Zammy512 just throws it out there like nothing ever happened and then leaves. first Reddick is the new coach of the Lakers and then a dangling semi-colon. how did we get here?
It's provocative...it gets the people going!
Allow me to; explain.
Fat fingered it lmao
What'd you think of him as a fetus?
Hated him in his daddyās nutsack.
The biggest podcaster coaching the biggest team in the world? The hating is going to be historical. Unprecedented.
There will be enough salt to poison every water source on the planet if they somehow win a chip
**november
October*** Iām already hating right now
***june
Reminds me of Valencia hiring Gary Neville and he lost 7-0 to Barcelona
i already do
Oh boy
Dude really went from no coaching experience, to coaching the Lakers. Fucking lol
Not true. JJ coaches his sonās basketball team. Edit: btw his son is 10yo
Draws X's O's swapped
I just know this is gonna be a running meme all seasonĀ
LeBronās gonna coach the team, JJ is going to coach Bronny.
Zero coaching experience but two great basketball podcasts probably taken from us
Don't worry, the pod will be back when he gets fired next year š
Well one will, he wont be back on Brons
Then he can put "*Former Lakers Head Coach*" on the marketing.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Iāve already decided, once the Suns hire Legler to coach them Iām going to be officially done with basketball podcasts.
Even a faster coaching pipeline than Steve Kerr, and without the rings or guidance under Pop to show for it
Napoleon did the same. Mantua will soon be under siege
Remember, the bottom of the key is the soft underbelly of the court. You must merely drive faster than your opponents.
Iām gonna miss Mind the Game :(
funniest case scenario is it doesnāt end
Mind the Game: discussing the Lakers getting blown out by the Nuggets and why it wasnāt my fault by JJ Reddick and Lebron James
"Why I didn't foul up 3" after losing to the Pistons
They both start subtly criticizing each other more and more as time goes on
I feel like it better. Last thing I want to see is my team leader and head coach devoting time to a podcast in the middle of a 6 game slip. And, on the other end, why would you publicly coach the rest of the league on how you out coached them?
the idea of JJ and LeBron breaking down how they beat a team is hilarious to me
They should record them and just not release them until after one or both leave the team
Imagine LeBron and Redick having post game reviews on their pod š
Funniest shit ever as they go back and forth flaming each other as to why they lost
Shams: where did that bring you? Right back to me
The Boogeyman
Wop wop wop wop Shams fuck em up Wop wop wop wop Gonna scoop his stuff

New scapegoat dropped
I'm not rooting against him but the discourse surrounding him if/when the Lakers have some really bad losses in a row is going to be some decent popcorn
Traded to the bucks next season for Bronny to take the job
I can't believe they hired the dude who disrespected Jerry West but it's incredibly on brand for this iteration of the Lakers organization because they also disrespected Jerry West. JJ will be gone in 2 years flat!
> JJ will be gone in 2 years flat! That's incredibly optimistic.
Also left AD off his first and second all defensive team ballot, which is insane to me.
Scapegoat Jack Perry
Cry me a ~~river~~ lake
Giving these dudes 4 years every time is insane lmao like why is that the standard
And itās Reddick too, he doesnāt have any leverage, no one else wouldāve hired him. Why not just do 2-3 years, wtf
I know this is pretty much bullshit, but itās because 2 years isnāt seen as long enough for a coach to ācreate a culture and implement their systemā. And itās bullshit because they might be fired halfway into their first year (looking at you Adrian Griffin)

Canāt wait to see how this plays out
Lebron has to stay now right?
LOL imagine if he leaves anyways
Gets his friend the bag then immediately leaves š
Thatās what he did for all the klutch clients on the Cavs from 2016-2018
Tristan Thompson owes LeBron a life debt for that shit
Shabazz 2.0
I had just managed to forget about that, thanks.
Dame with Jeremi Grant
Tristan Thompson
Wouldn't be the first time LeBron has done something like this.
haha honestly would probably set JJ up for a better situation. Way less and more realistic expectations would be set
Giving me flashbacks of Lebron forcing Miami to draft Napier and then bouncing in free agency
I still remember that lol that was 10 years ago now
Lol I remember that. As if Napier would be the leverage to make him stay.
So is the podcast just done now or....?
He brought Richard Jefferson onboard a few weeks ago so Iām guessing heās going to replace him.
Los Angeles Podcasters
canāt wait for you guys to end up in āletās look at r/nba reactions to JJ Redicks hiringā a year later (Iām coping)
Hey there's a chance! It'll be funny either way
Yeah, I can't decide if him failing or succeeding is funnier.
Fr, idk if it would be funnier for the podcaster turned head coach of the most valuable team in the league to get fired midseason or for him to threepeat
A LOT of people will look real silly when Lakers are crowned back to back in season tournament champions
100% of coaches to win the NBA Cup have been fired in the same seasonĀ
19 banners > 18 take that celtics (im coping)
Either this ends with the Lakers having made a bold move and turning it into a huge win or it goes the way most people think it might and the memes this creates will be glorious. Either way this is gonna be a hell of a ride for everyone.

Hey at least in the comments of the first Mind the Game pod hundreds of high school coaches laughed at him for using Xs for offense (while LeBron literally calls defending bigs X5). So he got that first embarrassing moment out of the way
I canāt wait for him to coach against Doc Rivers lol
I can't wait for him to coach against Stephen A Smith
Fuck it, get Nekias and Steve on the staff.
Steve's 0-2 in the summer league is more HC experience than JJ lol
Shams knew from the start
Shams made a 3-1 comeback with his legacy on the lineĀ
**Oh Blocked By Shams**
It's over it's over! Shams is a champion once again!
SHAMS CHARANIA WITH THE REJECTION
Shams had to pop out and show Woj
You called Romona when you didnāt see the club. Tim McMahon helped you get your lingo up
Stephen A gave you false street cred. Windy made you feel like a slime in your head.
Wilbon said you could be from northside. Tony say you good but he lied.
You run to Twitter when you need a few dollars. No, you not a colleague, you a fuckin' advertiser.
My goat clears Woj

Believe it or not? Guillotine
lol at ESPN Fired Jackson and JVG only for the next two hires to leave in a year
Steve Nash 2.0 imo, great basketball mind but is gonna be pushed around by management and star players.
I agree. I have no idea what Nash was supposed to do better in a situation like that.
If he had won three rings in his first year, that would've helped his legacy and given him some time to prove he can build a champion.
The star players on this lakers team are Bron and AD, and I think they respect JJ more and arenāt the kind of players to lead a lockeroom away from JJ, especially after last year and knowing Lebron has 1-2 more years left. Nash at least had some coaching experience (player development consulting) before he was a HCā¦ Redick has nothing. This is crazy
Oh come on. He was the head coach of his 7 year old son's travel team last year. Not some player development coach or assistant, but ***head coach!***
Nash was a 2x MVP who ran a brilliant O
And had at least some coaching experience
bruh..lmfao
GREAT START TO THE SUMMER LMAO
Hurley stays, Celtics win, lakers hire a podcaster. Real trifecta going on right over the past week and a half lol
I hate this timeline so much
Celtics still catching W's lol
Well, this ought to be interesting. A train wreck, yes, but an interesting one.
Everyone at ESPN is losing their minds right now, they get to focus on the Lakers even harder all season than usual
Linda Rambis in shambles and likely drunk right now
#COACH SECOND CHOICE
rather be sloppy seconds than sloppy unemployed
Iād rather be a hopelessly rich personality with barely any responsibilities tbh
dude is on ESPN and has his own profitable podcast, he wasn't going to be unemployed even if he didn't get the Lakers job
how tf can these guys with no coaching experience get head coaching jobs?! Now some poor assistant coach who has been grinding for years is going to have to come in and start teaching the head coach how to coach. Insane
JJ reminds me of Phil Jackson when Phil was 10 yrs old. Bright future for the Lakers.
Lakers just watched the Celtics win a championship and their response was to hire JJ Redick as their next Head Coach.
Honestly, good luck to him. I think it'd be way funnier for him to actually be good and people look insanely stupid for jumping the gun. If not then it is what it is and we can laugh then.
Heās there to draft bronny, thatās it imo.
You say this like he's here to do anything other than what Lebron tells him to do
This is such a clown ass team.
Iāve hated pretty much every move this front office has made since Lakers won a chip a couple years ago.
