Don't worry about those geeks man. Whatever year it was, or whatever record they have, he shot 40%. That's not all that good for a guard/fwd. Some players who got 1-2 steals a game, didn't mean they were great defenders. AI for example, he played the passing lanes. They gambled, and if it didn't work out, they're usually a step or 2 behind or away from their assignment.
I got you. I'm just saying, you take AI off that team, how far does that team go?
Stack was good, but when he got traded for Rip, well let's just say that was part of the recipe that cooked up a terrible graduation day for me.
I'm just joking mate. I thought it was funny that you called him a dumbass and that it'd be funny to ask someone to acknowledge they were the bigger dumbass. Didn't mean to offend if you took it that way
To be fair to Stack, his numbers were about on par with AI who was MVP that year. As far as the chucking goes who else was going to score on that team? Chucky Atkins was our second leading scorer for most of the season
We weren’t going to win having Chucky fucking Atkins taking more shots. It was not a good team that year. Stack was literally the only offensive threat we had
To be completely fair, his numbers need to be compared to league averages 23 years ago, not today’s league averages.
Not at all saying they were good, just that you can’t compare them to 2023-24 numbers because of how the game has changed thanks to analytics.
Til I read the edit, I was thinking no way.
1) I'd remember this.
2) A 40% shooter scores 30/game and team wins??? Only if it's Iverson...
In addition to his low shooting percentage Stackhouse refused to play defense or rebound. He was not snubbed.
We were horrible that year. Our second leading scorer was Corliss Williamson who only played 27 games for us. After him it was Joe Smith and Chucky Atkins. Stack had to shoot all the time just for us to have a chance to not be blown out
In that 2000-2001 season, Stackhouse shot .352 on shots between 10FT-3PT, while taking 11.43 FGA per game in that range.
League leading scorer and MVP Allen Iverson also shot .383 on shots between 10FT-3PT that year, on 11.06 FGA per game from that range.
The absolute peak of the inefficient chuckers.
He had 3 first team votes that year, while most of the 3rd team players had zero first team votes.
Was an unfortunate snub due to high level guards that year, probably the last year where guards were ahead of forwards. For the rest of the 2000s after that year, competition among forwards was higher I believe.
He received MVP votes, however. The league was stacked with elite guards. I'm not sure I'd go with Stack over the likes of Ray Allen and Gary Payton and I'm not going to talk about guys like Vince and so on. Especially when the Pistons finished with 32 wins. A noteworthy season, but not one I'd place him over his competition.
EDIT: For those that find it hard to believe that Stack was an MVP candidate this season, he received 3 votes and finished 14th, ahead of Michael Finley, Anthony Mason, and John Stockton.
EDIT 2: Better wording to lessen the offensive language of "He was an MVP candidate" to those that find it hard to believe Stack was one.
You are techinically right, he was on the list, 14 in a 15 player ranking with 0 first place votes.
I don't think many of us look back at many MVP races and argue that all 15 players were actual "candidates" though.
There have been plenty of dumb/troll/bias MVP votes over the years like this and are essentially meaningless.
Dude shot 40% on a lottery team during an era where the East was absolutely god awful.
True, but I’m just saying his season didn’t go entirely unrecognized. He was also an all-star reserve that season. Not deserving of all nba but not completely unnoticed. Sounds about right.
As someone who hosts bar trivia weekly for the past 18 months… I assure you I would have 150 people severely pissed at me if an answer to a question was Jerry Stackhouse.
It was 00-01. They went 29-53.
We’re both dumbasses, they were 32-50
Ok but you're the bigger dumbass. You got the year wrong and made the post. That guy just got the record wrong. Please acknowledge this for posterity.
I did but okay
Ignore that nerd he thinks life is an anime

Don’t go look up Iverson or Antoine Walker’s shooting splits…
AI didn’t shoot much better and he was the MVP
Look at the team he took to the finals
I’m not arguing that AI isn’t the better player
I got you. I'm just saying, you take AI off that team, how far does that team go? Stack was good, but when he got traded for Rip, well let's just say that was part of the recipe that cooked up a terrible graduation day for me.
We weren’t going to win a title without making that trade
I'm just joking mate. I thought it was funny that you called him a dumbass and that it'd be funny to ask someone to acknowledge they were the bigger dumbass. Didn't mean to offend if you took it that way
you ran from the grind with this one man
Hah. I got the sense that the guy was actually hurt and felt bad. Oh well.
thats mb, kinda hard to tell when someone is joking on the internet
All good!
In a similar vein Bradley Beal in the 2019-2020 season averaged over 30 PPG and made neither all nba or the all star team
At the time though, I didn’t think he deserved it over any guard who did make it.
Thats actually wild💀
Is all-NBA just all-ppg?
The team was bad, his scoring efficiency wasn’t good, he was taking the term “chucking” to the extreme
To be fair to Stack, his numbers were about on par with AI who was MVP that year. As far as the chucking goes who else was going to score on that team? Chucky Atkins was our second leading scorer for most of the season
Maybe he should’ve shot less, because clearly chucking as he did didn’t lead to a winning team
We weren’t going to win having Chucky fucking Atkins taking more shots. It was not a good team that year. Stack was literally the only offensive threat we had
Jerry Stackhouse had a career average FG% of 40.9, 30.9 3P%, 82.2 FT%, and 52.4 TS%.
Those are pretty bad shooting percentages for his ppg. Hence the inefficient comment
That’s fcking awful
Yeah, that’s really bad
Yes. Those are terrible numbers. I think league average TS was around 55% last I had checked
To be completely fair, his numbers need to be compared to league averages 23 years ago, not today’s league averages. Not at all saying they were good, just that you can’t compare them to 2023-24 numbers because of how the game has changed thanks to analytics.
They were incredibly low for the league average of the time. Back then you’d want a guard to be shooting at least 44% and 33% from three
Besides FT% that is horrendous
Til I read the edit, I was thinking no way. 1) I'd remember this. 2) A 40% shooter scores 30/game and team wins??? Only if it's Iverson... In addition to his low shooting percentage Stackhouse refused to play defense or rebound. He was not snubbed.
Alex English scored the most total points in the 1980s and didn't make the 75th anniversary team.
Some might say that the cards...were stacked against him 🤓
turns out the house doesn’t always win
He was inefficient; and I don’t recall them winning much
We were horrible that year. Our second leading scorer was Corliss Williamson who only played 27 games for us. After him it was Joe Smith and Chucky Atkins. Stack had to shoot all the time just for us to have a chance to not be blown out
I used to rock Fila’s when I was a youngin because of him and Grant hill
Fila used to go hard tho
Now they sell it in Target, in Australia at least.
Team was bad and he had terrible efficiency.

Looter in a riot
Jerry “BrickShitHouse” Stackhouse

Stackhouse was far from an MVP candidate that season Edit: OP deleted his comments after getting caught up in his feelings lmao

Every NBA player is an MVP candidate.
Lol that’s not an actual MVP candidate He received 3 points, which is absolutely nothing. As a reference, Iverson won with over 1121 that season.

What a childish response Sabonis got a 3rd place vote for DPOY this season I guess he’s a candidate for that award according to you lol
You are techinically right, he was on the list, 14 in a 15 player ranking with 0 first place votes. I don't think many of us look back at many MVP races and argue that all 15 players were actual "candidates" though.

Nothing here is anyones problem lol
was 2021 ben simmons an MVP candidate?

What do you care about, let's talk about it
There have been plenty of dumb/troll/bias MVP votes over the years like this and are essentially meaningless. Dude shot 40% on a lottery team during an era where the East was absolutely god awful.

Trae led the league in total points AND total assists and got 3rd team. It's all about per game
even then, his per game stats in 2000-2001 was pretty good
That is a brilliant pub quiz question! Not many people including myself would have guessed he did that.
As someone who hosts bar trivia weekly for the past 18 months… I assure you I would have 150 people severely pissed at me if an answer to a question was Jerry Stackhouse.
Same thing happened to Harden in 2016. Led the league in total points, 9th in mvp voting, and made the playoffs
