It isn't controversial. Many people consider NFS Hot Pursuit 2010/Remastered as one of the best game in entire franchise + it is only NFS game that got remastered which says a lot
Then maybe I'll buy it, I already played it in EA Play, but I didn't liked it enough to buy it, but I still think that the game made from begining mainly for cop and racer competition would be better.
I love HP2010, so i don't mind. Just wish it will have same customization as in unbound or better. And not just for racers, cause i wanna make the most stylish police car ever. And that's why I'm hyped for Vol 8 update for unbound!

I don’t want full on destructive weapons, like ESFS, and shockwaves. For example, It would be better if cops just had the abilities from payback/heat and unbound to assist in pursuits, while racers can use jammers and have turbo for extreme speed.
If we can fully customise and upgrade our cop cars like heat/unbound then we probably have a solid game.
I love the idea, I just don't want it to come at the cost of customization. 2010 Hot pursuit scrapped it, and the remaster only included a wrap editor. Rivals barely had a customization system
If they go a cop v racer route for the next game, I hope they maintain the cinematic elegance and thrill of HP2010, while keeping the customization and tuning options of unbound for both the cop and racer side.
Well, perhaps so long as it doesn't have some shooting gadgets like EMP or dropped spike strips and etc. from HP2010 and rivals, unless it's a different spin-off to take on, for one, blur, even if it shares the same physics. Also, just because one is not a tuning focused NFS title, doesn't mean it should detract from old japanese cars like the R32/33/34 Skyline GTR, A80 Supra (lol, wish), FC/FD RX-7s, etc.

Isn't GRID something like that? I didn't played it yet, but I heard that it also focuses on closed circuit racing, and also has a bit realistic driving.

Remember, "cop vs racer" subgenre in the franchise implies that both are playable, pretty much like Hot Pursuit and Rivals.
2015 isnt cop vs racer since you are just a racer(and ai cops are so dumb they barely exist).

True, I’ve always complained about the new nfs maps, tho imo they are bad as racing game maps in general, not just for drifting. Too many straight and wide roads and no shortcuts opportunities

I'm happy to hear it, but I feel like most of the NFS players would choose some Blackbox Need for Speed as the greatest of all time racing game.
I also really like Rivals, would love something like Rivals with say a few more features, etc.
And better balance, I still don't know why Ghost Games decided to gatekeep some cars only for police.

How good it is cop vs racer only game lacks creativity and options. It should be an extra mode and not a full game.

Grid is completely arcade, but more realistic than NFS
