I sincerely appreciate this response. It was a seminal album for me and after the loss of my friend I just couldn’t listen. It was too painful. I’m at the point where the pain is a bittersweet nostalgia. And at the moment I am lost in it.
That was kind of a crazy time and you had platforms like Jezebel paying for allegations which was very dangerous. I mentioned in my deleted post I had an incident with Terry Richardson who for a time was Jezebel’s public enemy number one. And while there were definitely some sketchy things he did and I don’t presume to know anyone else’s experience, mine was just kinda questionable. I was in a shoot for some British mag’s sex issue and the advance details ended up being substantially *different* from the reality. I was young and a little crazy but I had agency. I wasn’t taken advantage of. I remember jezebel reaching out and though I wouldn’t say they asked me to embellish, they did keep reaching out to ask if I had any more thoughts or anything I wanted to add to “help support other ‘survivors’” . I was clear that it was NOT that kind of situation.
Just leaves it all on the field. Easily the most MOVING album I’ve ever heard. Invested with an empathy and love of humanity that borders on the psychotic honestly, and I mean that as the highest of praise
What?!? I’m the OP and I promise I’m not an AI bot and based on my specific statement about this album and the people responding, it seems they’re nothing but honest and sincere.
BTW I lost my old account due to pathetic Elon musk fanboy losers (seriously nothing more pathetic than randos simping for a would be incel dork) This is my new account
The muskrat simp subs mass report users. I thought I had the majority of them blocked but they automatically ban anyone who posts in r/RealTesla r/CyberStuck and r/EnoughMuskSpam - even if you’ve never posted in their subs. Anyway, they banned me from all the simp subs
Despite the fact that I never posted in any of them. I was reading a post about another cybertruck breakdown that I assumed was CyberStuck and I typed simply “lol”. They reported me for ban evasion. I would never intentionally post in those subs because his cult members are ridiculous. It was my oversight but it’s not like I was posting anything harassing or anything even controversial. I appealed but still lost my account. It’s pretty ridiculous.
I've heard a ton of music in my life, but I can't say that any concept album has been as wonderful of an experience as ITAOTS is, especially not within just 40 minutes. It's a unique masterpiece for sure.
I've cried many a time to "God is a place where some holy spectacle lies / God is a place you will wait for the rest of your life". That section could carry the entire album for me.
Now imagine this album was played on repeat at your beloved friend’s funeral. I have a lot of complicated feelings about this album. I couldn’t listen at all for damn near 10 years. I’m at the point where it’s a nostalgic reminder instead of visceral pain.
Yeah, that sounds like a rough album to revisit after something like that. I'm glad you've managed to move past the pain. I haven't sat down for a good listen for almost 10 years so it might just be time!
usually by the middle to end of albums i just kind of zone out and not really listen. That is not the case with this album tho it keeps you listening the whole way thru
Ive been saying this for a while, but this album is genuinely the closest anybody has came to a perfect piece of media ever. I genuinely can not name a single flaw in this album
If you asked me to name flaws in other "perfect" albums, I could easily tell you. The bridge in "Across The Sea" by Weezer is too long, the last few tracks of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy are boring, and Good Kid Maad City has a few songs that are too long
ITAOTS genuinely does not have a flaw. The album is the perfect length, the songs are mixed and recorded perfectly, there's an unbridled amount of passion and love poured into every song, and the album almost gets better every single time I listen to it
I don't think any album, movie, TV show, or book has ever or will ever top this album. Definitely not in my life. This is really a once in a lifetime album, and I wasn't even alive when it came out
Here are some of my other top favorites (maybe not all of them flawless masterpieces but I love them)
Bon Iver For Emma Forever Ago is pretty great. I didn’t initially love ALL the songs until I saw him live.
Wilco Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
Elliott Smith Either/Or
Prince Purple Rain
Spoon Gimme Fiction and Ga Ga Ga
Arctic Monkeys AM
I feel like it is what Infinite Jest is purported to be. I’ve enjoyed what I’ve read so far but I’ve read maybe a quarter of the book. In about four years. Four years after subtracting out the decade or two I put it down.
I definitely think OK Computer is exemplary. Not sure if you’re a runner (or walker) but listening to OK Computer while running/walking at night can make you feel like the last person on earth. In the best way possible.
Same here. It’s for every part of my life. So grateful I got to see them live one last time in 2014 and meet Jeff afterwards. I was so starstruck I forgot to take photos 🫠
Omg I love perfect albums and yes! Obviously Aeroplane Over The Sea. And also (in no specific order… Dark Side of the Moon- Pink Floyd, Crystal Castles- Crystal Castles, Keep It Like A Secret- Built to Spill, Hot Fuss- The Killers, PetroDragonic Apocalypse- King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Time Will Die and Love Will Bury It- Rolo Tomassi, You Won’t Go Before You’re Supposed To- Knocked Loose, Sunbather-Deafheaven, The Shepards Dog- Iron and Wine, AT.LONG.LAST.A$AP- A$AP Rocky, 40oz. to Freedom- Sublime. I’m sure I’m forgetting some but I’m a slut for perfect albums and I legitimately feel these all are! If you have any other perfect album recommendations please DM me! Edit: I forgot another Pink Floyd Album (I’m really into Floyd, my dads dead and he and I disagreed on a lot of things but we loved Floyd) Wish You Were Here.
To be fair, trent formed NIN in 87 and has always had a revolving cycle of artists. Flood was a big part of a lot of bands in the LA scene in the 80's and 90's and Mansinger knew *everyone*. I think they opened for NIN in like... 94, though?
If im remembering correctly it was before the first Lollapalooza. Actually it had to be. I’m thinking 92 but I could be combining some concerts in my head. I’m 93% sure I saw NIN open for Jane’s Addiction at the same venue in maybe 91. Again iirc this was about the same time Jon Stewart was a bar back at the club. Edit: yes THAT Jon Stewart who was instrumental in helping my friend who was unknowingly dosed from an LSD ice cube.
Black Country New Road’s Ants from Up There is pretty good. That album drew me to listen to this album but I still think it’s slightly better. ITAOTS it still one of the best imo
Definitely. Though it’s one I have to be in the mood for. I could listen to Casimir Pulaski Day pretty much on repeat but Sufjan Stevens’ full albums I need to be in the right frame of mind.
I was gonna say this one!! Big Thief are easily my favourite modern band. Adrienne is such a wonderful songwriter with imagery reminiscent of Jeff's style at times.
Totally agree!! She has the same "top of your head coming off" writing style that feels both outside of time/space and intimately grounded. I love her, my two favorite songwriters for sure.
take it back thats blasphemy. youve just named the favorite pet sounds’ track shared by my grandfather and me. (also is there discourse around sloop john b im not privy to?)
For me no since itaots was what got me into music so it will probably stay my favorite album. Some albums that come close is Tell Me About the Long Dark Path Home which feels so grand and groundbreaking. The Now Now and Never is another one as its the most ethereal album I’ve ever heard. Also Figure 8 by Elliott Smith.
Love listening to it but it’s a really anxiety inducing album. I have to be in a special mood to listen to it all the way though.
It’s a masterpiece though.
yeah man it’s pretty good
I sincerely appreciate this response. It was a seminal album for me and after the loss of my friend I just couldn’t listen. It was too painful. I’m at the point where the pain is a bittersweet nostalgia. And at the moment I am lost in it.
I can’t find that album
Fevers And Mirrors

Bright Eyes is great as is Desaparecidos

https://pitchfork.com/news/55885-conor-oberst-rape-accuser-issues-public-apology/ you mean 10 years ago? Which were proven false.
Oh wow that chick is nutso. Whoa. I’m deleting my other comment because I don’t even want to imply CO did anything wrong
I get it. You gotta treat all allegations seriously until you know they’re not true. No sweat.
That was kind of a crazy time and you had platforms like Jezebel paying for allegations which was very dangerous. Too whiny
Wa wa wa WA WA
Check out Ys by Joanna Newsom or The Glow pt 2 by The Microphones
Ys is so moving! I finally felt like I could listen to it again recently after about a 10 year break. It just makes me feel so much.
The transition to the second half of Monkey & Bear gives me butterflies. Literal chills. I love her music so much!
I love Joanna Newsom. I feel like I want to hang out with her. She’s SO talented and beautiful and seems just endlessly cool.
Just leaves it all on the field. Easily the most MOVING album I’ve ever heard. Invested with an empathy and love of humanity that borders on the psychotic honestly, and I mean that as the highest of praise
I can't find that when I look it up. Is it not on spotify?
Not sure if you're joking but his first sentence is describing Aeroplane Over the Sea
erm. thats my bad.

Thank you. Me too. There’s still a jagged undercurrent but wrapped in beauty and love. I’m glad to be back.

Friend, we could be friends.
Sounds good. But I may need your top five first. *kidding
For Emma Sign O' the Times A Ghost Is Born Blood On The Tracks The Downward Spiral
Pleased to meet you BFF
I need to add The Avett Brothers I and Love and You. One of my favorite albums from one of my favorite live performers.
I feel like it is what Infinite Jest is purported to be. I’ve enjoyed what I’ve read so far but I’ve read maybe a quarter of the book. In about four years. Four years after subtracting out the decade or two I put it down.
>The bridge in "Across The Sea" by Weezer is too long, Wild take tbh
Pet sounds
Excellent suggestion.
In Rainbows, Kid A and Funeral according to some.
Funeral is spectacular. I’d say that the song Funeral is absolutely a masterpiece
Yeah Radiohead are pretty good. I’d add A Moon Shaped Pool in there for the emotion
You have great taste, ok computer or AMSP would’ve been my third suggestion
I definitely think OK Computer is exemplary. Not sure if you’re a runner (or walker) but listening to OK Computer while running/walking at night can make you feel like the last person on earth. In the best way possible.
haha completely agree.
Helped me put into more feelings a broken up relationship, good times, a masterpiece to me as well
Same here. It’s for every part of my life. So grateful I got to see them live one last time in 2014 and meet Jeff afterwards. I was so starstruck I forgot to take photos 🫠
I can relate. Late 90’s Maxwell’s. Cameras weren’t quite as ubiquitous
The devil and god are raging inside me. It's what led me to nmh actually
ants from up there could be on the same level for you. Some people call it pretentious but then others (like me) absolutely love it
I’ll check this out. When you mentioned pretentious I immediately thought of Pavement.

Lifted, the story is in the soil.. Bright Eyes and We shall all be healed The Mountain goats Are my other two perfect albums from the last 25 years
Ok word. Bright Eyes kicks ass
10000 days
Love Tool! Saw them at an absolute hole in wall way back in the day. Opening for Nine Inch Nails before they were “NINE INCH NAILS” Such a performer.
To be fair, trent formed NIN in 87 and has always had a revolving cycle of artists. Flood was a big part of a lot of bands in the LA scene in the 80's and 90's and Mansinger knew *everyone*. I think they opened for NIN in like... 94, though?

If you like metal, Opeth - Blackwater park.
I love good music. I’ll check it out
Wildflower by Avalanches
I'd say ruminations by Conor Oberst and Tallahassee by the mountain goats have a similar level of cohesion for me.
Black Country New Road’s Ants from Up There is pretty good. That album drew me to listen to this album but I still think it’s slightly better. ITAOTS it still one of the best imo
You’re the second person to mention this album. Can’t wait to check it out
It’s phenomenal
Carrie and Lowell by Sufjan but that’s probably my only contender
Definitely. Though it’s one I have to be in the mood for. I could listen to Casimir Pulaski Day pretty much on repeat but Sufjan Stevens’ full albums I need to be in the right frame of mind.
on avery island is better
Feels and To Pimp a Butterfly
My Bloody Valentine-Loveless
Excellent choice
basic pick but i’d say OK Computer
Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You is perfect, but idk if anything will ever touch AOTS for me, it's like communing with God.
Excited to check this out
if only it weren’t for sloop john b
take it back thats blasphemy. youve just named the favorite pet sounds’ track shared by my grandfather and me. (also is there discourse around sloop john b im not privy to?)
Not sure how anyone could find fault in Pet Sounds.
This is absolutely not the snoozer on Pet Sounds. It's Here Today.
I like divorce lawyers I shaved my head much more if I’m being honest but also divorce lawyers is like one of my favorite things eve
In the aeroplane over the sea is flawless but there are albums that are still much better for me
For me no since itaots was what got me into music so it will probably stay my favorite album. Some albums that come close is Tell Me About the Long Dark Path Home which feels so grand and groundbreaking. The Now Now and Never is another one as its the most ethereal album I’ve ever heard. Also Figure 8 by Elliott Smith.
Not very popular but Anatolia by feed me jack has always been what I consider perfect, or very close
Love listening to it but it’s a really anxiety inducing album. I have to be in a special mood to listen to it all the way though. It’s a masterpiece though.
