It's been done. For extra mad adventurer, make the last bus in Sydney the L90 to Barrenjoey -- while the Woy Woy Ferry is just waiting there..
A pre-monetized Youtube guy also had the challenge to find the longest possible trips on a day pass, although I'm blanking on the specifics right now.
from my 10 second look, trip planner tells me Scone to Goulburn is about as far/long as you can get in a day that the schedule allows (excluding things like going newcastle/sydney etc. back and forth all day)
$7.96 off peak
6:07 Scone
19:13 Goulburn
with a 5 hour wait at central for the southern highlands train.
Most only go to Moss Vale. One or two connect with a bus to Goulburn. The only Goulburn trains are the two evening ones (and I think two really early in the morning)
I'm not sure. As I said I just did a 10 second search.
I don't know how frequently the train goes from campbeltown to Goulburn though, from what I could see it was only twice daily from central on the shl line
Edit: Sydney trains train only runs from campbelltown to Goulburn at 9:53am, and 16:46pm - which was the same train I referred to originally from Central that required the 5 hour wait.
You can catch more frequent countrylink trains from campbelltown, but that doesn't fit within the opal network day pass, and a booking is required.
Pretty sure that train* through to Wagga is twice a day. Arrives Wagga at 2pm and 2am.
My colleague took a train from central to Albury that arrived at 5am.
Visited for a work event. I wouldn't do* that again soon my friend. When you are getting paid, just fly.
Edit: I just meant train but write bus š¤¦āāļø
Pretty unrelated but this reminds me of a challenge my friends set me a while ago (that I have not yet completed) - to get from Newcastle CBD to Sydney CBD using courtesy buses only.
Walking to work this morning I went passed a bus stop on near King and Wolfe street with a crazy vocalising his musings to the world, an elderly couple and some young children were keeping an appropriate gap.
There's 1 train that does all of that for you
And it's almost as quick!
Oooof

I thought the same...old mate explains why at the end...
Because...
Yes. /thread.
Possibly the best endorsement of Sydney Trains Ive ever seen
Would be a good site seeing experience š¤·āāļø
āIf you look out your left window youāll see our local junkie tweaking, and out your right youāll see the kids heās screaming at.
Yes. Thatās mad. Now go the other way. š

You donāt have to wait at Central during the day - you can go to Campbelltown and they depart from there.

Huh, they certainly used to run regularly, Iāve caught one in the past. They mustāve discontinued the service.

Waiting for the follow-up video "Walked to Sydney in 6 days with this one neat trick"
And the Reaction Videos to watching a 70yo+ Baby Boomer track the GNW.
Interesting idea. Iād wondered if it was possible before
i always think about this and how possible and how long it would take (i love buses)
That's the sort of public transport service that justifies removing car parking in town. What could go wrong?
2.5 hours by train is still disgraceful.
Why? Its 160km, with multiple stops.
Itās an interesting thumbnail. Makes it look like the long trip was due to a crash
travel like a true local

Mad?.. Absolutely!
Good god! Why botherā¦. Crazy man.
