Al is on Amazon in order to show that Amazon is seriously committed to putting together a respectable broadcast/stream for their NFL games. He's a legitimate sports broadcaster, and having him associated with high profile games--even if not on Amazon--serves the purpose he has on Amazon quite well.
Once they are established as a credible broadcasting entity, they'll probably be more interested in finding younger talent that they'd lock in.

Sometimes he gets paired up with a color person that comes off in a restrained way and I think it’s so boring. They both have interesting things to say but they’re both the same kind of character with the same humor and pacing. When Orel Hersheiser gets in there with Joe, though, he does his weird old man thing and it’s funny, and it works bringing out the humor and pacing from Joe and I’d listen to that all day
i was so disappointed they only had d-train (dontrelle willis) in there for so few games. loved how he interacted with davis... eric karros on the other hand was SO boring and seemed pretty biased. nomar (garciaparra) and jessica mendoza weren't bad but they weren't really special either. the epitome of good not great (which isn't a bad thing!)

As a guy who loves Romo, he's really fallen off as a commentator. He needs to go away from simping certain guys and storylines and go back to breaking down individual plays and schemes. He was at his best when I felt like I was learning something from a goofy charming guy.
Al wasn’t the issue. He needs someone to feed off of and set him up. Dungy was like that one friend who is hellbent on “partying” but then spends the night in a puddle on Xanny bars.

She was on PMT and she said her role is as much a reporter as it is an extra producer. She said for example, she was the one making sure cameras were set up to capture the absolute melt down by MBC when he stripped down and left the game. She said she saw him acting weird, so they were able to catch good shots of all the "action"
It was Antonio brown in the divisional round, not sure if it was that same year, he went out of the game with a leg. She also mentioned getting cameras on Aaron Donald when he was getting fighty on the sidelines.
I have no idea if it’s the first time I paid attention to Romos voice or what. The first thing I kept thinking was why is there an NFL Playoff announcer that has a voice like a smoker. There’s just a raspy sound to it. I doubt he smoked considering he was a professional QB.

Al Michaels isn’t a high-energy broadcaster. He’s not exactly Pat Summerall, but he’s closer to that than he is to Gus Johnson.
Al is at his best when he has another commentator to be the hype man. That’s why, despite the memes, he worked so well with Collinsworth. Cris has his faults but he always meets the energy and importance of the moment, and works as a great contrast to Al, who is more emphasis than volume. Putting him with Tony Dungy, who is a soft-spoken man without a ton of personality, makes for a snooze fest.

It's a shame Talib's brother decided to kill someone and thus forced fox to kick him off as a broadcaster. He was always stuck with the lions lol. He started out rough like anyone would when starting out, but after a while he became comfortable and it became kind of fun to listen to him.

His call of the Lawrence two point conversion vs the Tirico call of the Hubbard fumble TD made me very thankful Tirico is now full time on SNF. Respect to Al and he can still be good but he definitely needs someone with a personality beside him.

That whole broadcast at the end of the Superbowl was incredibly disappointing. Pretty sure they wanted to swap to the Winter Olympics as fast as possible or something. Felt like "well folks that's the Superbowl, now go watch some Curling" I also remember him kinda sounding disappointed when the Rams kicked the game winning field goal against the Buccaneers. The call right before that was the "deep down fieeeeeld! He's got kupp again!"

Al Michaels isn’t a high-energy broadcaster. He’s not exactly Pat Summerall, but he’s closer to that than he is to Gus Johnson. Al is at his best when he has another commentator to be the hype man. That’s why, despite the memes, he worked so well with Collinsworth. Cris has his faults but he always meets the energy and importance of the moment, and works as a great contrast to Al, who is more emphasis than volume. Putting him with Tony Dungy, who is a soft-spoken man without a ton of personality, makes for a snooze fest. Pat Summerall had John Madden.

Al Michaels is the GOAT play by play announcer. No matter the game. It’s who he’s paired with is what makes or breaks his games. I just hope Dungy never calls another game. Not only does he not talk often, his demeanor is the exact opposite of what you want when watching a game. Michaels and Madden were the all time best IMO and nobody has ever come close.
He is not wrong. A lot of social media, Reddit included, likes to circle jerk bashing announcers so that they can give each other fake internet points and feel good about shitting on someone else career. The Al Michaels broadcast was fine. Just like most of them are.
I think it lacked excitement in the second half. And the game winning kick call left a lot to be desired.

I re-listened to a couple of the calls, and it definitely was bad, but all this criticism led me to realize how little I actually care about the commentary or anything that gets said during the broadcast. Because I legit didn't even notice anything unusual about it while I was watching. I'm tempted to try just muting the games from now on and listening to my favorite music while I watch.
The only person who is a bigger a-hole than Al Michaels is Al Michaels tomorrow.
