I used to work in jersey city right across the river from Manhattan and my entire commute I would stare at the ESB and every day from the yard (worked for the railroad) I would stare at the ESB and then on my commute home the sun would reflect off of it in my review mirror.
For years instated at the ESB.
I’ve seen it at dawn, at dusk, middle of the night, from the sky, from within, from the ground, from the roof.
Ive never seen it as beautiful as I saw it last night.

I think in general people not from NYC really overestimate the amount of attention that is paid to what colors the Empire State Building is at any given time. While we're talking about a building with a lot of history it's not even in the top five tallest in Midtown anymore so it's not like it still dominates the skyline north of FiDi.
People only care now because it became something to talk about today after close up shots of it green were posted on twitter.
I think because of how the networks like to use it along side One World Trade, the Brooklyn bridge, and the Statue of Liberty for their clips of NYC landmarks before or after commercials people not from around here don't realize that in 2023 it blends into the overall skyline.
